00:29after several attacks in the southern region of the country.
00:38Venezuelan Executive Vice President Delsi Rodríguez opens on Thursday the 17th edition
00:44of the nation's international Trism First Fitvent 2024, with the participation of more
00:50than 30 countries.
00:59Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Ana Marrero from the Telesur headquarters
01:03in Caracas, Venezuela.
01:04We'll be with the news, stay with us.
01:20Mexican President Claudia Schainbaum rejected U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's assertions
01:24about Mexico's supposed stance to stop migration by closing the U.S.-Mexico border.
01:29The Mexican president clarified that she does not intend to close the migratory passage
01:33with the United States, but to build bridges between governments to help each other.
01:38The head of state explained that during a phone call conversation with U.S. President-elect,
01:42strategies were discussed to address the immigration phenomenon through collaboration on security
01:47issues.
01:48She also remarked that Mexico is part of a campaign to protect sovereignty and prevent
01:54the entry of entities into the country.
02:00Everyone has their own way of communicating, but I can assure you, I give you the certainty
02:05that we would never, besides we would be unable, they proposed to us to close the border in
02:11the north of our country and in the south of the United States.
02:14It has never been our proposal, and of course we do not agree with that.
02:20So President Trump has his own way of communicating, but we talked about this strategy on the phone
02:25call, and I told him that this caravan of migrants that you are referring to in your
02:31publication is not going to reach the northern border because Mexico has a strategy.
02:37So that wasn't how the conversation went.
02:44In addition, the Mexican president stressed her phone conversation focused on the immigration
02:49strategy.
02:50Her government has been working on and highlighted, she also brought up to Trump during the call
02:56the need to end the U.S. blockade against Cuba and Venezuela.
03:00Firstly, I am going to answer the question you asked me on our phone call.
03:07What I presented to President Trump was the migration strategy.
03:12We have been pursuing it for months, and we have strengthened it since January 2024 due
03:19to the migration wave, particularly in the last month of 2023.
03:25In all, we are strengthening this comprehensive strategy, which comprises several actions.
03:36In addition to other proposals made, such as putting an end to the blockades against
03:41Cuba and Venezuela, because these cohesive policies cause suffering to the peoples, forcing
03:47these peoples to find migration as their way out.
03:51It is a comprehensive program that proposes the cooperation among the different countries,
03:57and in some way people depart from or they are able to reach our country.
04:03Granted in their goal is to reach the northern border.
04:09In Bolivia, the Minister of Government Eduardo Castillo announced former anti-drug chief
04:13Maximiliano Dávila will be extradited to the United States after authorization from
04:18the Bolivian Supreme Court of Justice.
04:20Dávila was apprehended in 2022 while he was trying to cross over to Argentina.
04:25The judicial system charged him with transactions in controlled substances and handling arms
04:30related to drug trafficking.
04:32In this sense, President of the Supreme Court of Justice, Marco Jaime, explained that before
04:37the his extradition, authorities shall comply with a series of legal requirements and formalities.

05:12Welcome back to From the South.
05:33The Libyan army denounced that Israel violated ceasefire for the first time after several
05:38attacks in the southern region of the country.
05:40The Lebanese army stated that Israeli tanks opened fire on Thursday in southern Lebanon
05:44on the second day of the ceasefire reached with Hezbollah and also stressed that displaced
05:49peoples returning to their homes were also hit.
05:53It was also reported that Israeli forces opened fire on vehicles in the border town of Markaba.
06:02For its part, the Israeli army issued a warning for the residents of the Berlin villages in
06:07southern Lebanon and distributed a map of where Markaba prohibited sun for the inhabitants
06:12of Sheba and al-Hebriyat.
06:20Following the ceasefire, the agreement between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon and Israel's
06:24attacks in the Gaza Strip had intensified specifically in the Nusra Rafiqa, mainly targeting
06:30the health sectors.
06:31From Gaza, our correspondent Huda Hegazi has some more details.
06:35After the ceasefire agreed between the Israeli regime and the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon,
06:44the attacks of the Israeli regime in the Gaza Strip have intensified, especially in the
06:49last two days.
06:50Today, the Israeli regime has focused all its attacks specifically on the Nusirat refugee
06:55camp in the central Gaza Strip, specifically in the northern part of the refugee camp.
07:13Since the beginning of this morning, the Israeli regime bombed from the air and from the ground
07:18the tallest buildings in that refugee camp and approximately five buildings have been
07:22destroyed, especially the highest floors, as an attempt by the Israeli army to destroy
07:27every tall structure that is in that camp.
07:30Because in the case that the army wants to incursion into the interior of that refugee
07:33camp is easier for it since it has greater visibility without tall buildings that prevent
07:38it from operating or entering in that camp.
07:53Since the beginning of this morning, the Israeli regime bombed from the air and from the ground
07:57the tallest buildings in that refugee camp and approximately five buildings have been
08:01destroyed, especially the highest floors, as an attempt by the Israeli army to destroy
08:07every tall structure that is in that camp.
08:09Because in the case that the army wants to incursion into the interior of that refugee
08:13camp is easier for it since it has greater visibility without tall buildings that prevent
08:17it from operating or entering in that camp.
08:31It has been reported that ambulance cars have been directly attacked and one of the cars
08:35has been completely destroyed and a paramedic who was in that ambulance car has been injured
08:40in addition to two journalists who were inside it and who were going to report the events
08:44at the site of the incident and one of them is the correspondent of the Al Jazeera channel.
08:59So the attack has even been targeted directly at the medical personnel as well as at the
09:03journalists to prevent them from showing the atrocities of the occupation regime.
09:17Moreover, other ambulance cars have been partially damaged by the shrapnel that has fallen from
09:22the missiles and artillery shells and at this moment the biggest fear is the possibility
09:27of a land incursion since at this moment it has been reported that the military mechanisms
09:31and tanks of the occupation army are being relocated in the north of that camp and at
09:36any moment they could incursion into that place.
09:47Finally, the latest communique issued by the Palestinian Ministry of Healthcare in the
09:52Gaza Strip was a message addressed especially to the international community and the World
09:57Health Organization, in which the situation of the hospitals in the Gaza Strip was reported.
10:03The ministry has assured that approximately 75% of the hospitals and medical centers have
10:08collapsed and are of service.
10:19Only five hospitals remain active in the Gaza Strip, an insufficient number for the amount
10:24of casualties and wounded that occur on a daily basis due to the occupation army shelling.
10:29It has also condemned the closure of the borders, the prevention of the entry of medical supplies
10:33and goods as well as fuel, which is something that is directly affecting the health sector,
10:38and therefore the ministry has directly condemned the indiscriminate attacks of the occupation
10:43army especially on the health sector here in the Gaza Strip.
10:51The Commission for Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs denounced the mistreatment of Palestinian
10:56women in Israeli prisons.
10:58The organizations warned about increasing abuses against Palestinian prisoners since
11:02October 2023, which worsened over time.
11:05In this regard, it points out that Israeli prison authorities are denying the detainees
11:09blankets and winter clothing despite the draw of interpreters as well as preventing the
11:15entry of hygiene and personal care items.
11:18The organization also alerted that since the beginning of the Israeli aggression, the
11:22army and the Tel Aviv police have arrested 435 women in the occupied West Bank, including
11:28those from the East Jerusalem area.
11:31Let's take our last break, but before we invite you to visit our YouTube channel at

13:09Antifascist Forum for a New World.
13:11During the meeting, the Executive Secretary of the bloc, Jorge Arreaza, recalled the alliance
13:16between Cuba and Venezuela during the organization's inception.
13:20In this sense, Arreaza stated that the objective of President Chávez was to create a Bolivarian
13:24alternative with the alliance of the People's Offer of America.
13:34In Venezuela, the Vice President and Minister of Oil, Delcy Rodríguez, condemned the actions
13:39of the extreme right of the country against the sector in order to gain political power
13:44through disobliging actions.
13:49And I would never want, at this time of permanent attacks on our industry which, as I have said,
13:55it has been the main target of the criminal blockade against Venezuela.
14:01I have never wanted to miss the opportunity to highlight the knowledge and expertise of
14:06our workers in this industry.
14:12Very recently, after a criminal attack against the gas distribution center of the country,
14:17the recovery has been possible thanks to 800 workers of PDVSA who from different places
14:23in the country, who from different parts of the country gathered to recover the gas service
14:33for the Venezuelan people.
14:35On Wednesday, the Minister of Internal Justice and Peace of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello,
14:44confirmed that the former candidate of the opposition coalition Edmundo González will
14:48not return to the country in January.
14:51The also first Vice President of the United Socialist Party of the Nation gave an account
14:56of a campaign initiated by the violent far-right opposition.
15:00This week, Cabello reports the opposition is trying to frighten the Venezuelan people
15:05by various means.
15:06He is inviting more than a visit by González, a situation of chaos and violence in the country
15:11until January 10th.
15:13Recently, members of the extremist opposition, disrespected conditions of exile and even
15:18challenging their militants, have made calls to take the streets to set the stage for a
15:23supposed takeover.
15:25Moving on, landslides in eastern Uganda have left at least 15 people dead and more than
15:44100 other missing.
15:45The landslides were triggered by heavy rains in the mountainous districts of Bulanguli,
15:50280 kilometers east of the nation's capital, Kampala, on Wednesday night.
15:56The Uganda Red Cross Society said the rescue efforts was continuing but the death toll
16:00was likely to rise.
16:02Local officials told journalists in the area that an excavator would be brought to assist
16:07in the rescue efforts but the roads were covered in mud and rain was still left failing.
16:13The newspaper said the Daily Monitor reported that most of the bodies recovered so far were
16:18those of children.
16:24In Brazil, heavy rains that hit the capital of the state of Bahia have caused more than
16:28300 incidents, leaving one person dead and injuring three others.
16:32According to the Ministry of the Country's National Institute of Meteorology, November
16:37has been the rainiest month since 1971 after the region.
16:41The damp waters have also caused the electric service to be disconnected after the fall
16:46of high-tension cables.
16:47While in Salvador de Bahia, a structure collapsed on a main venue, prompting debris removal
16:53efforts to be activated afterwards as the search for a missing person continues.
16:57In this context, authorities report that public transportation covering the area had to be
17:02diverted and businesses were unable to open the doors.
17:18Changing topics and going to culture.
17:21Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed over 47 archaeological cultural objects to
17:27the country's Ministry of Culture on Thursday after they were recovered from a number of
17:31countries across the globe.
17:33According to the press released from Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 29 items were
17:37returned voluntarily.
17:39Four were identified at activation and returned through diplomatic channels, and 13 were seized
17:46by the Italian Commando Carabinieri Tutela Patrimonio Culturale and returned through
17:51the courts.
17:52The collections include pieces from the Mishun, Asga'a, and Shukupamba cultures.
17:59The objects were recovered from various countries such as Argentina, the U.S., Italy, and the
18:05Netherlands, among others.
18:06The Ministry of Culture, though, will not decide where the pieces will be housed.
18:12This, of course, is a source of pride that today we are able to hand over to the Ministry
18:21of Culture 47 cultural assets that have been returned to their homeland.
18:27This act reaffirms our strong and sustained commitment to the protection of the cultural
18:33heritage of the nation.
18:40This kind of international cooperation inspires us to redouble our efforts and explore new
18:45forms of collaboration to face the global challenge of illicit trafficking in cultural
18:50property.
18:53The legendary Gothic Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris will be open its doors on December
18:597, five and a half years after the devastating fire in 2019.
19:04The world will get a first look inside the renovated Gothic jewel on Friday when French
19:09President Emmanuel Macron, accompanied by his wife Brigitte and Archbishop of Paris
19:15Laurent Ulrich begins a program of ceremonies that will culminate with an official entry
19:21into the cathedral on December 7.
19:24The first Catholic Mass is scheduled to be held the following days.
19:29The cathedral roof was severely damaged and it was totally destroyed by a devastating
19:34fire on the eve of April 15, 2019.
19:39And the theories for the cause of the blast are a secret left by a workman or an electric field.
