Mike Giardi and Will Parkinson return to preview the Week 16 NFL slate. Both Saturday games have playoff-seeding implications, how will they shake out? Plus, after a season full of dysfunction for the Patriots and Jets, how can they move forward? Are they really as bad as their record makes it seem?

00:00:00Here we are, another episode of the All 32 Pod headed into week 16.
00:00:18Mike Giardi alongside Will Parkinson, as always.
00:00:23Will did a 67-minute podcast, an emergency podcast, right?
00:00:27Does that qualify as an emergency podcast?
00:00:28Yeah, it was an emergency podcast.
00:00:29Yeah, on Thursday, the TOJ pod about the story in the Athletic about the Jets and this
00:00:35Garrett Wilson stuff, and there's all kinds of things bubbling.
00:00:39So when you're done here and you want to hear about the dysfunction there, Will will share
00:00:44his thoughts.
00:00:45We're also going to get his thoughts here on this podcast, which as always is brought
00:00:48to you by PrizePix, the exclusive daily fantasy partner of the CLNS Media Network and GameTime.
00:00:54Best tickets, best prices to get you into anything, anywhere, any game, concert, you
00:00:58know what I'm talking about.
00:01:00Let's get the footnoted version of your 67-minute pod about the Jets.
00:01:05For those of you who didn't see it, huge story in the Athletic, trades nixed because Jerry
00:01:10Judy's rating on Madden wasn't high enough, Woody Johnson's kids running amuck, Woody
00:01:17Johnson getting very emotional with a former quarterback, there's a ton of stuff in there.
00:01:23Just give me what you took out of it and how you feel about sort of where it's going right
00:01:28now with the Jets.
00:01:29Yeah, I think, look, there's the fourth piece on the Jets by the Athletic with some good
00:01:35reporting, but the fourth piece in 10 months now about Robert Sala, two about Woody Johnson,
00:01:41one about Zach Wilson, a lot of stuff in that building.
00:01:45When you're in the biggest media market in the world and you have underperformed for
00:01:51well over a decade, unfortunately, and you have leaks in the building, this is a lot
00:01:56of what happens.
00:01:58The Jets, some of those leaks, it seems like may no longer be in the building, which is
00:02:04a large portion of this.
00:02:07The article obviously encompasses a bunch of things, a couple of the highlights obviously
00:02:10or lowlights, whatever you want to call them.
00:02:12I think the most bothersome one to a lot was Mike White back in 2022.
00:02:18For those who remember, the Jets were 6-3, 7-4, and then they lost six in a row to finish
00:02:24the year, including spearheaded on either side of that was two horrible losses to the
00:02:30Patriots.
00:02:31Zach Wilson was benched after for Mike White, played really well.
00:02:34Mike White took a shot from Matt Milano.
00:02:36It might be the hardest hit we've seen in the NFL in quite some time.
00:02:40I was there for that game.
00:02:42Mike White cracked multiple ribs.
00:02:44The Jets told everyone it was two.
00:02:45I think from Fiasco, it was quite a few more than that.
00:02:50Mike White played.
00:02:51He missed a week, I believe, and came back, and he played against Seattle.
00:02:56The Jets were 7-8 at the time, but because of the way things had worked out, if they
00:03:00had won the final two at Seattle, at Miami, Miami, remember this was no two, they would
00:03:05be in.
00:03:06The Jets, again, at that time in a 12-year playoff drought, they go to Seattle.
00:03:10They lay an egg.
00:03:11The defense was fine, but then don't break and give up, whatever.
00:03:15Mike White did not play well.
00:03:16It was actually horrible in that game.
00:03:19Woody Johnson apparently stormed in the locker room after Mike White had thrown his helmet,
00:03:25and Woody is like, you should throw your helmet.
00:03:27You effing suck.
00:03:29Not to Mike White, but saying it out loud.
00:03:33Woody acted emotionally.
00:03:34He was angry, obviously, about that, so people were very upset about that for Mike White
00:03:37playing through injury and getting talked to like that.
00:03:41There was a couple other things that are the highlights, I guess, in terms of media coverage
00:03:47there.
00:03:48Over the summer, or over the last offseason, the Jets were looking to acquire another receiver
00:03:53to go with Garrett Wilson.
00:03:54At the time, Devontae Adams was not going to be traded by the Raiders.
00:03:58As we know, the Jets identified Jerry Judy.
00:04:00They want to dump Alan Lazard.
00:04:02The Broncos don't want Alan Lazard, so they want a better draft pick, so on and so forth.
00:04:07I guess it gets back to Woody Johnson from his kids that one reason to not trade for,
00:04:12and this was one reason, but one reason to not trade for Jerry Judy is that his Madden
00:04:17rating is very low comparatively to that of Devontae Adams or even of a Mike Williams
00:04:22who they end up signing.
00:04:25The Broncos were told, it seems this from Joe Douglas, that the reason the trade is
00:04:30off, Jerry Judy and a third-round pick, and an extension for Judy for, sorry, Alan Lazard,
00:04:37a third-round pick for Jerry Judy and an extension, was because of at least in some
00:04:43way, shape, or form, it depends who you listen to.
00:04:46Brian Costello had a different report than Zach Rosenblatt and Diana Rossini.
00:04:50Somewhere in the middle, Madden ratings were brought up as a reason, and then Woody was
00:04:53upset about signing John Simpson because he was rated a lot lower than Lincoln Tomlinson
00:04:58who they had just cut and eaten a lot of dead money on.
00:05:01Obviously, it's obscene in general.
00:05:05Right.
00:05:06I'm not excusing this.
00:05:07Using Madden ratings is hilarious.
00:05:09It's a funny headline.
00:05:11I will say, Mike, and I'd actually like your thoughts before I finish on this because you
00:05:14can do this a lot longer than I have, owners, GMs, and front office people, I would say
00:05:21GMs and owners I'll use, and members around those people watch a lot of TV, they read
00:05:27a lot of newspapers, they scroll on Twitter, they listen to the radio.
00:05:33It's not uncommon that opinions can be formed based off of things in the media or other
00:05:38people's opinions.
00:05:39I don't think we've heard Madden ratings.
00:05:42This is a new one.
00:05:44But I know that people, we've had before mock drafts influence owners from media.
00:05:52So can you just talk a little bit about that of what you thought when you saw Madden ratings?
00:05:55Did you connect it to the same thing I did where it's the same as watching good morning
00:05:59football and being like, wow, they're really hyping up Dak Prescott, we've really got to
00:06:02pay him.
00:06:03And I know it sounds crazy, but this stuff does happen.
00:06:05Yeah, I don't know that it happens so much with, well, with general managers or in particular,
00:06:12good general managers, but certainly from ownership.
00:06:14And we've sort of been talking about this just based on the last week and what's happening
00:06:18in my backyard with the shot of Jonathan Kraft talking to his dad and trashing the offensive
00:06:24play calling where they're fans.
00:06:31I don't know if there's any owner of the 32 that played like who's the owner owner, not
00:06:37like Tom Brady being like a 2% owner who played the game.
00:06:41So what do you know about the game?
00:06:43Yeah, you can talk to your coaches.
00:06:45Oh, you've watched the game for 30 years.
00:06:47Well, just because you watch the game for 30 years doesn't mean you know what you're
00:06:49looking at.
00:06:50You're probably like everybody at home following the football where the football goes, you
00:06:54know, like, oh, he makes a great play.
00:06:56And you ignore, you know, the seven missed routes and the, you know, the drops or whatever
00:07:00it can be.
00:07:01Like, you're just looking at those things because they don't have the in-depth knowledge
00:07:05of that.
00:07:06So to your point, absolutely.
00:07:08I think owners get influenced by this.
00:07:10And as I was saying with the Jonathan Kraft thing, like he definitely doesn't know.
00:07:15And I think all owners are this way.
00:07:16You definitely don't know what you're looking at defensively.
00:07:18You wouldn't know an inverted cover too if it slammed you in the face, right?
00:07:21Like, you don't like double mug looks and zone blitzes and simulated pressures like
00:07:26they've heard the words before, but they don't know what it means or what it entails or why
00:07:31it happens when it does happen, right?
00:07:34Versus when you look at offensive football, even if you don't understand the schemes,
00:07:38wide zone and like, like any of that stuff, you can sit there and say, well, we shouldn't
00:07:43run the ball or we shouldn't have thrown the ball or why didn't we throw the ball or should
00:07:47have gone forward and forth down like with no actual, like, that's just how you've been
00:07:52raised if you watch the game, if you're a fan of the game and that's what you hear on
00:07:56the TV, right?
00:07:57Well, I wouldn't, if I would have called a pass there, or that's what you hear on good
00:07:59morning football, or that's what you hear on one of the ESPN shows.
00:08:03So I think absolutely owners that are sort of, look, they're, they're great businessmen
00:08:10or they were the sons or children of great businessmen to ascend to this position of
00:08:15incredible power and wealth.
00:08:17All these guys are billionaires and then some, but that doesn't mean, you know, anything
00:08:21about football.
00:08:22And so if you want to make like, you know, about football, you're doing exactly what
00:08:27you said.
00:08:28You're listening to the radio, you're watching TV.
00:08:30You have somebody in your ear who also may or may not know anything about football and
00:08:34you are taking those opinions and you're taking them like they are, like they are law.
00:08:39Yeah.
00:08:40No, that's the mad thing is obviously egregious.
00:08:43I think I mentioned the Mike White part of it.
00:08:46A lot of the stuff was about Woody's kids and having a little too much of their dad's
00:08:50ear, feeling maybe a little bit too much entitlement to, you know, quote, frankly, talk crap to
00:08:56players in the locker room.
00:08:58There was some stuff like that.
00:09:00And after that, which by the way, if it's accurate and I'm sure the story is that that's
00:09:04not great.
00:09:05No, it's not.
00:09:07That shouldn't be happening.
00:09:08If I was a player and some 18 year old kid who happened to be the, you know, one with
00:09:12the silver spoon is trash talking me like, I don't know, I don't know what I do, but
00:09:17I know I'd be pissed.
00:09:18No, I'd be pissed too.
00:09:19And I think a lot of that was a lot of the highlights around what Woody did wrong.
00:09:23There was a few other things that for me, and I'll finish this here and we'll move on
00:09:27to the games and stuff is a lot of it sound like Woody is not a great owner.
00:09:33I'm not saying he is, but the Jets have been, the Jets had a period where they were very
00:09:38successful with Woody Johnson as their owner.
00:09:40I think a lot of Patriots fans may not think Bob craft's a great owner anymore.
00:09:44When you win, you're a great owner.
00:09:45And when you lose, you suck.
00:09:47Look, that's the way it is.
00:09:48Most owners are not, they're not perfect.
00:09:52Just that it is what it is, right?
00:09:54We know that Cowboys fans probably loved Jerry Jones for 20 years.
00:09:57And then now it's like, I can't stand him.
00:10:00Right.
00:10:02A lot of that is all true.
00:10:03And what, but Woody Johnson, one misconception I will say is that he's not patient.
00:10:08Woody gave Joe Douglas five and a half years, Robert Sala into year four, uh, Adam Gase
00:10:13got multiple years after probably should have been fired right away.
00:10:15Mike McKagan went into year four, like these guys get way longer than they shouldn't.
00:10:19It's part of why the Jets are not good.
00:10:20Right?
00:10:21Like let's just, we're in at least the last 15 years, Robert Sala and Joe Douglas in this
00:10:26article have a few quotes that are at worst, just embarrassing.
00:10:31Um, that's just embarrassing.
00:10:34So Joe Douglas has a quote in there that says I report to a teenager, um, you were
00:10:4030 and 64 as the GM.
00:10:43And before, uh, what do you came back from London and started meddling in what seems
00:10:48like year four, year three was four and 13, seven and 10, seven and 10.
00:10:54And the cornerstones of the franchise where the left tackle bust you drafted the quarterback
00:10:59bust you drafted, uh, two receivers you drafted in back-to-back years in round two that were
00:11:04traded or cut within two years.
00:11:06Uh, that's not on Woody Johnson.
00:11:09That's not on Chris Johnson, his children, his wife, anything like that, or Robert Sala
00:11:13that's on you.
00:11:14And Robert Sala has a quote in there about how he was scared that if he fired Nate Hackett,
00:11:18Aaron Rogers wouldn't play for him.
00:11:21I think the biggest thing in this whole regime, the biggest mistake they made in the Rogers
00:11:25experiment.
00:11:26And I think the Patriots had made this mistake at times with Brady and Brady was just good
00:11:32enough.
00:11:33He overcame it.
00:11:34These guys want to be challenged.
00:11:35I think that did Tom love that bill went at him all the time.
00:11:38No.
00:11:39Do I think that Tom is ever grateful that he did to keep him literally as competitive
00:11:43as humanly possible?
00:11:44I do.
00:11:45Roger's career, every coach that challenged him in the first couple of years, he won a
00:11:50Superbowl or an MVP with and multiple MVPs, multiple MVPs with McCarthy when he first
00:11:55got there and a Superbowl title.
00:11:56And they went 15 and won the next year when LaFleur got there.
00:12:00It was 39 or what, 30, but they went 39 and they go 39 and nine.
00:12:04The first three is that like whatever it is, 39 and nine, the first three years, multiple
00:12:09MVPs, multiple one seeds, et cetera.
00:12:12It got tired after a while.
00:12:14But Aaron, just like any great player wants you to like, he wants it his way, but he wants
00:12:19to work for it a little bit.
00:12:20He wants you to push him and he wants you to challenge him and not just say, do whatever
00:12:23you want, buddy.
00:12:24Bruce Arians.
00:12:25Guess what?
00:12:26He went at Tom and Tom went back at him and they won a Superbowl because that's what happens.
00:12:31The Jets didn't do that.
00:12:32That's where they, I think they failed more than anything is that they just said, Aaron,
00:12:36do whatever you want.
00:12:37Walk all over us.
00:12:38What do you walk all over us?
00:12:39Victim mentality.
00:12:41The Jets need an alpha in that building or two.
00:12:43And I think that will tremendously solve a lot of their issues.
00:12:48There's a lot of meddling owners again.
00:12:51I think that we'll talk Patriots at the end.
00:12:53I, part of the reason I think that draw Mayo might not be the guy is because I don't know
00:12:58that he has the stones or at least the, uh, not that I don't want to say that.
00:13:02I don't know that he has the background in a sense of, or like the ego to go at Robert
00:13:07Kraft.
00:13:08I'm not Jonathan.
00:13:09I'm not doing that.
00:13:10That's not how we're going to do things.
00:13:11We're going to play football my way, or we're going to play football the Patriot way, whatever.
00:13:14Uh, Jerry Jones and any of these owners that metal, you got to have a strong personality
00:13:19and you got to know how to stroke their ego a little bit while getting what you want.
00:13:24The Jets didn't have that in place.
00:13:25And that's why they're, you know, where it's why their season is the way it is and ESPN
00:13:29and everybody else continues to talk about it daily.
00:13:32That's what happens.
00:13:35We in the media, uh, and I'm speaking broadly, not specifically, but generally we like a
00:13:42good train wreck like pretty much everybody else, everybody, you, you know, we rubberneck
00:13:46when there's a car accident, you want to see what's going on there.
00:13:49That's why there's a, there's a delay going in the other direction because everybody has
00:13:52to look and there's just part of that that, um, captures people's imaginations.
00:13:58I, I keep saying this when it, with regards to the Patriots, I'm tired of writing the
00:14:01same story.
00:14:02Yeah.
00:14:03There are different, there are different characters involved this year than there were last year
00:14:06or the year prior, but it's the same conversation, which is a poor play, bouts of dysfunction.
00:14:13What the hell are you doing?
00:14:14Where is this going?
00:14:15And that's sort of what the Jets have been stuck in for.
00:14:18This will be the 14th year without a playoff appearance, um, on to better news.
00:14:24And you know why it's better news because prize picks a, they support us, they're outstanding,
00:14:28great sponsor.
00:14:29Um, but if you want to get involved in fantasy sports, they bring the juice to you.
00:14:35Um, download the app today.
00:14:37Use the code CLNS to get $50 off instantly after you play your first $5 lineup again,
00:14:42download the app today, use the code CLNS to get $50 off instantly after you play your
00:14:47first dollar, a $5 lineup, which again, you don't have to win.
00:14:51And the great thing about price books here is there's over 10 million members.
00:14:54And what they're doing now is if you pick just two players up to six more or less on
00:15:00their stat lines, you have a shot to win was a hundred times your cash.
00:15:06And a couple of weeks ago, it was 200 times your cash.
00:15:08Now we're at a thousand times your cash.
00:15:12So get involved.
00:15:13If you think James Cook is going to run over the Patriots, what's the number more or less,
00:15:18you know, if you think Josh Allen's going to run over the Patriots more or less, I might
00:15:21be giving you some, uh, indications of where I am headed with our prize picks later on.
00:15:25Again, just download the app, uh, prize picks run your game.
00:15:29All right.
00:15:30Uh, let's go to our first game.
00:15:32And, uh, two of the three games that we will be looking at today are Saturday games.
00:15:36Saturday is a absolutely, uh, I don't know that I'm going to move off the couch.
00:15:41I might gain 10 pounds.
00:15:44I don't care.
00:15:45We got college football playoffs.
00:15:46We got NFL games and a couple of big ones, Texans nine and five visiting the 13 and one
00:15:50chiefs homes is going to play, which I don't know that we thought when we talked about
00:15:55this on Monday, that that was going to happen.
00:15:57And in fact, I wonder even now, and to his credit, like he wants to play and he's done
00:16:01everything they can to play when you have essentially a two game lead on the number
00:16:06one seat, or at least the game, depending on how Buffalo does, do you play him or would
00:16:12it be wiser to just say, you know what, Pat, we're going to let Carson Wentz, the backup
00:16:16handle this one.
00:16:18And we're at home.
00:16:20Uh, Houston has not played particularly well this year, even though they're nine and five,
00:16:23their offense has struggled as we've talked about on this pod pretty much since week one.
00:16:28Um, and your defense, which the chiefs defense hasn't been as great as it was maybe earlier
00:16:33in the year.
00:16:34And certainly last year is still capable of, um, making Houston struggle in this game.
00:16:39Would you have, would you do this?
00:16:40Would you play Pat Holmes?
00:16:42Sorry, Pat, you go, you go sit over here.
00:16:44Yeah.
00:16:45So I, initially I was like, you know, you said him for a week, maybe you give him even
00:16:49two weeks.
00:16:50I think Breer referenced this.
00:16:51Um, I don't know if I can remember what show he was on.
00:16:53I'm just like, Hey, like, is it where maybe you get to 20, almost, I think it's like 21
00:16:58days or whatever it is essentially like ramp up or some number and that ramp, whatever,
00:17:03no 11 days, whatever it is.
00:17:06I thought about this as you were saying that, and I'm going to change my answer.
00:17:09And I think that it might be worth playing Pat now.
00:17:12And you hope that by 11 days from now, the one seeds clinched, you will sit a week 18.
00:17:19And then you have them sit, obviously the week they're off.
00:17:22I wonder if in their head, they're nervous that while Pat might be a hundred percent
00:17:27healthy in a month, is it, is there rust?
00:17:30Is there like, we haven't really gone full speed in a month and a year into a, Oh shoot,
00:17:36this team.
00:17:37I don't know.
00:17:38Take, just say the Ravens, right?
00:17:39Like, I don't know.
00:17:40Let's just say they get the Ravens and, and you know, the divisional rounds who are humming
00:17:45Lamar Assad, a heater.
00:17:47They feel really good coming off a wildcard round appearance and they win and they go
00:17:51into Kansas city and be like, we could beat this team.
00:17:53We should have beaten them week one.
00:17:55And then all of a sudden you're down 21, three and six minutes to go in the second quarter
00:17:59and going, yeah, I know we did this against Houston, you know, six, seven years ago, but
00:18:04the Ravens are a little different than those Houston.
00:18:06You know what I mean?
00:18:07Like that's maybe what I'm, I'm guessing they're thinking is a, the injury is not as bad as
00:18:11we thought and B if we can lock things up in the next two weeks, which they should probably
00:18:16feel confident they can, then you only have my homes off for two weeks.
00:18:21Keep them in the pocket.
00:18:22Let make him, Hey, if it's not there, get rid of it.
00:18:25Like it's not worth it, but we want to get, keep you, keep the body moving a little bit.
00:18:29Again, I don't know if it's the smart play Mike, but I almost think it's like the, it's
00:18:33the starting picture where it's like, Oh, why'd you pitch him in the last game of the
00:18:36season?
00:18:37You know, you could have arrested him probably.
00:18:39And then it's like too much time off sometimes as a quarterback, sometimes as a pitcher,
00:18:44a guy who's a shooter in basketball, like those kinds of like fine art positions, if
00:18:50you will.
00:18:51I just wonder, is that what they're thinking is maybe we know he's not a hundred percent,
00:18:56but we also know we cannot afford this team's maybe not quite as powerful as they were.
00:19:02Maybe it's some self-reflection of like, we kind of still do need to be in games a
00:19:06little bit to be good, as good as we want.
00:19:09And can we afford to be rusty when the playoffs come around?
00:19:12I don't know.
00:19:13Maybe is that a crazy thought?
00:19:15No, no.
00:19:16Cause it's funny because I think I was dead set against him playing on Monday.
00:19:19And again, we thought the injury was high ankle sprains, not good, but it's, it apparently
00:19:24is not the worst of the worst high ankle sprains that you could suffer here.
00:19:27So this is what they do.
00:19:30Guys play.
00:19:31He's being paid to play.
00:19:33He wants to play.
00:19:34His team wants him to play.
00:19:35If he shows you enough during the course of his week of practice and what you're seeing
00:19:39out of him and the nonstop rehab that he's doing, then you have to trust that.
00:19:44Okay, Pat, maybe protect yourself a little bit better.
00:19:48Maybe every once in a while, instead of trying to contort yourself under pressure, just turtle,
00:19:53go down, like live to play another play and not risk re-injury.
00:19:58But I think there's a lot of validity to what you just talked about.
00:20:03And I also think, you know, Hollywood Brown is, um, is going to play this weekend.
00:20:06At least the last report I got, we're taking this on Friday, 1235 in the afternoon.
00:20:12You haven't gotten a lot of reps with him, obviously, cause he got hurt very early on.
00:20:15Like you're still trying to form what you are as an offense and you're still trying
00:20:19to unlock pieces of the offense that you haven't quite been able to do, getting a little bit
00:20:23more consistency out of Xavier Worthy.
00:20:25Now you throw Hollywood Brown into that.
00:20:27Maybe that unlocks some things underneath for Kelsey.
00:20:29Who's obviously, I don't think he's scored a touchdown in the last five or six weeks.
00:20:33Like, and statistically, even though the numbers look great, you know, from a catch perspective,
00:20:39we've seen it.
00:20:40He's not the same explosive player run after catch type stuff.
00:20:43So maybe you're creating, let's just see what this looks like.
00:20:46And we have to continue to build this so that when we get to January, we have a better idea
00:20:50of what our offense is capable of and where, you know, quite frankly, where we might hit
00:20:54a point of no return.
00:20:55You know, we're down, if we're down 14 to three, can we keep running or no, we don't
00:21:00have that in our bag anymore.
00:21:01We got to, we got to check it all over the yard or stick with the run because our past
00:21:04game is just not good enough and hope you can continue to chip it away.
00:21:07I think they're still learning about what they are.
00:21:09So I get what they're doing.
00:21:12Obviously they'll get hammered if he gets re-injured, but you have to trust the player
00:21:17who's been in the league for a long time and has played with stuff that he, he knows his
00:21:21limitations and what he's capable of at this point.
00:21:23Yeah.
00:21:24And if you're Houston, just to flip it to them for a second, do I think that he's a
00:21:29bit, yeah, I got to look just quickly.
00:21:30I think it's kind of a sneaky big game for Houston because I think we're all at the point
00:21:35now where like, it's just not their year.
00:21:38Like, you know, like they're got, they want to, you know, they're winning the division,
00:21:41blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:21:42But like, we thought they could be a real post-season contender.
00:21:45A lot of people had them AFC championship game type thing, like take the next step.
00:21:49And I think it's been pretty clear that it's been, despite being nine and five, it's been
00:21:53an underwhelming type season.
00:21:56It has, but I will say is there's a very, excuse me, sorry.
00:22:02There's a, there's a world here where if they win one of the next two and they were to the
00:22:10next three, I apologize.
00:22:11And I think it's an uphill battle to win two or three, but I don't think it's out of the
00:22:15question and we can see it.
00:22:17Baltimore is week to week.
00:22:18They'll be coming off Steelers, the Steelers and like, you never know, but let's just say
00:22:23Baltimore wins at home against Pittsburgh.
00:22:26You know, I know it's Lamar versus Pittsburgh, so you never know, but let's just say they
00:22:30win. That division is suddenly also a five loss division and it goes from the Texans
00:22:36hosting Pittsburgh or Baltimore to maybe their host in Denver, the Chargers and Houston.
00:22:41You're going, oh, all right.
00:22:43Like maybe we, I don't know.
00:22:44And then are they going to play Buffalo and saying, can we get, oh, hey, Houston beat
00:22:48Buffalo already this year.
00:22:51You know, they're not totally freaking out.
00:22:53I'm not, I'm not saying they're going to do these things.
00:22:55I'm just saying, if you're them, like we pick off Kansas City here and all of a sudden the
00:22:59division's clinched, do we hold some stuff back against Baltimore knowing we might play
00:23:04them again? Are we, are we feeling good?
00:23:06And we're going to all of a sudden in a lost year, it felt like all of a sudden rattle off
00:23:11five in a row and get some breaks here, playoff matchups a little bit.
00:23:15And I don't know that if I see them doing that, but I also know that we've, they've
00:23:22shown that at times they can look really good.
00:23:24They also at times can look horrendous.
00:23:26Like they beat Buffalo, they smoked Miami, like they have some, you know, they played
00:23:30really neck and neck with Detroit and stuff.
00:23:32And then, you know, they get smoked by the Jets and they get, you know, they, they, the
00:23:36Titans game and like they've, they've had some rough weeks, but I just think if you're
00:23:40Houston, you're going, Hey, we're not in five Baltimore, Pittsburgh and beat each
00:23:46other up.
00:23:46We got Baltimore off a Steelers game.
00:23:48We still won here.
00:23:50We got Tennessee to finish, who is not soft as Brian Callahan emphasis emphasize the
00:23:56this week.
00:23:57I don't know.
00:23:58I just, this is one of those.
00:23:59It's not a must win for Houston by any means.
00:24:02I think that they'd be happy to be in and, you know, be in the playoffs at this point.
00:24:05They'll be the fourth seed or maybe, but like there is an outside shot here.
00:24:10If they could get to the three and you're just, you're road to making a little bit more
00:24:14noise, potentially eases up a bit.
00:24:17Yeah.
00:24:17I, I, uh, I wonder, I still don't like them in this game, but yeah, so I'm having a hard
00:24:23time.
00:24:23And there's a, there were a lot of clips circulating online and sorry, kind of went
00:24:27back and like zoomed through their, their offensive performance.
00:24:31And like literally the interior of that offensive line is playing so poorly.
00:24:35Couldn't handle speaking of the double mug looks.
00:24:39They were just absolutely bamboozled by that.
00:24:42And it's like, this is kind of, I don't want to call it football 101, but if maybe it'd
00:24:46be 201, you should be able to handle this as an offensive line.
00:24:49And here we are, you know, week 15 heading into week 16 and you're still having issues
00:24:54with who your three best pieces are inside and can they actually do the job?
00:24:57So, um, yeah, there, there, there is a window for them, but I think the crack is very, very,
00:25:04very slim.
00:25:05Um, look, we're talking about big games here at the end of the NFL season.
00:25:09We're talking about NBA, NHL, full bore college basketball, whatever you're into
00:25:14college hockey.
00:25:15Uh, if you're in my backyard, that's, you know, Boston college, BU, all those teams.
00:25:19Uh, and if you're looking to go to one of the games, you'd be a fool not to use game
00:25:23time, game time picks filters out the fluff to show only incredible deals on great seats.
00:25:27So you don't have to waste time searching through thousands of tickets.
00:25:30Uh, we've mentioned many times we'll go on a Yankee games.
00:25:33They go on to the Celtics, uh, home opener, certainly headed to a game at some point a
00:25:39year in the next couple of weeks as well with family home, uh, from college use game
00:25:45time.
00:25:45It's the easiest thing.
00:25:46When I used it the day I went to the Celtics, uh, opener, like literally I decided 30
00:25:51minutes before, uh, or an hour before, Hey, just do it, bam on the app, get it done.
00:25:56So you just download the game time app, create an account, use the code CLNS for $20
00:26:00off your first purchase terms apply again, create an account, redeem the code CLNS for
00:26:05$20 off.
00:26:06What time is it?
00:26:07That's game time.
00:26:09Uh, let's go to the next game.
00:26:10Also a Saturday football game Steelers 10 and four against the Ravens at nine and five.
00:26:16The Ravens have lost four in a row to Pittsburgh.
00:26:20Um, and even if they win this game, by the way, just based on the, the, uh, the crazy
00:26:26layers of tiebreakers, they still wouldn't move into first place.
00:26:29They'd have the same record.
00:26:30Both teams would be 10 and five, but because of, I think it's the fourth or fifth
00:26:34tiebreaker, which is a conference record, third, whatever it is, uh, they would still
00:26:38be, they would lose out on that because the Steelers have a better conference record at
00:26:43this point than the Ravens do.
00:26:44Even if the Ravens were to win the game, uh, played earlier in the year, 18, 16, 18, 16
00:26:50game, rather where the Steelers did not score a touchdown, there were three giveaways by
00:26:55the Ravens to Justin Tucker, miss field goals.
00:26:59And I believe 13 penalties in the game, which that was the game.
00:27:03If you'll remember here as a loyal watcher of all 32, where I said, Nope, it's over.
00:27:08I'm not taking the Ravens anymore.
00:27:09Do not trust them to win, uh, the four games necessary or the three games it would be
00:27:14four for them now to win a Superbowl title.
00:27:17And they were my preseason Superbowl pick, I guess.
00:27:20Where do you stand on the importance of this game for each team?
00:27:27And are you with me on the Ravens?
00:27:31No matter what happens here, it's just something missing.
00:27:37Yes.
00:27:38And no.
00:27:39Okay.
00:27:40Give me the note first.
00:27:41Yeah.
00:27:41So the only reason I'm saying, I don't think there's something missing is because
00:27:44the, the level of Mars playing at is so ridiculous that I know that it was the
00:27:50Giants last week, but like, it was insane, you know, and it's just, it's still NFL
00:27:55football and it's still like, wow.
00:27:57When you come on your watch and stuff like that, do I think they can win a title?
00:28:01I'm not so sure.
00:28:02I like you think there's, there's a few too many issues, but similar way I talked
00:28:08about Houston, if you're a Ravens fan, just going into this game, you're going,
00:28:13okay, if we win this game, you know, we got Houston next week, we feel good.
00:28:18We could beat Houston good team, but we feel like we could beat them.
00:28:21And we got Cleveland to finish the year at home.
00:28:24So we're probably going to finish somewhere, somewhere in the 11 to 12 win
00:28:30mark, that's probably what they're feeling.
00:28:31If they win this week, if you're, you know, and if you're thinking that way,
00:28:35you're going, okay, how do we overtake the Steelers?
00:28:38How do we get that home playoff game or two Steelers at the chiefs next week?
00:28:44And then the Bengals who we're not going to talk much about this week.
00:28:49I mean, they're very much still in it.
00:28:50I mean, they, they gotta be kicking themselves.
00:28:52There's a few games.
00:28:53Like they'd be in the driver's seat.
00:28:54And I, I personally want to see Cincy Buffalo and I want to see Joe
00:28:59Burrow go in there and that came to be 61 59.
00:29:03And that's because that's what they're probably going to being.
00:29:07My thing with the Ravens is the reason this game matters more is because I, can
00:29:13you really feel like good about yourself if you lose a fifth in a row to your arch
00:29:17rival?
00:29:17And this isn't like Jeff's Patriots rivalry where traditionally it just really does
00:29:22go up and down.
00:29:23Like that is a thing.
00:29:24And, um, I don't know if this is, you know, Dolphins bills, like, you know, I'm
00:29:29just using like those, like, yeah, those rivalries are rovers and they hate each
00:29:34other, but we have seen some streaks.
00:29:37We don't usually see five in a row, especially with the Ravens having the
00:29:41better quarterback, like by a wide margin for a long time now it's at home.
00:29:47And if you lose this, the division's probably done.
00:29:50And that means at best, you're looking at the five.
00:29:54And that means you're at best getting, you know, one game where you'd feel good.
00:29:59And then you're going right to right to Kansas city.
00:30:02And I don't know if you feel good about that, even though I just made the
00:30:04reference, I, you know, I guess I made the reference that like theoretically
00:30:08Baltimore might weirdly want that path.
00:30:12Um, just of the aspect of the goal, we want to get back at that, whatever.
00:30:16If you're the Steelers, I do think this game matters a lot because it, not only
00:30:21does it wrap up the division, it puts you in a driver's again, driver's seat for
00:30:24the three seed, which means you're getting a game.
00:30:26You feel like you could win in round one.
00:30:29It means, you know, you're avoiding Kansas city or whatever.
00:30:32I don't, I just think both these teams need this in a lot of senses of like,
00:30:36it will, we're talking playoff position.
00:30:38Now, these things are much different than like, will you get in or
00:30:40will you, won't you get in?
00:30:42Will you host a home playoff game at least one?
00:30:44And will you be the three seat?
00:30:46You know, like that again, if you're Baltimore, I'm going to this going, man,
00:30:51if we can take out the Steelers, a banged up Steelers team at home and
00:30:55Pickens doesn't go, they are not the same team.
00:30:57We beat ourselves all the time.
00:30:58Let's just not beat ourselves.
00:30:59It's walking and go, who knows.
00:31:02And then we got a Houston team coming in here and all of a sudden, like we might
00:31:05be looking at the three seed and we might be hosting a playoff game or two.
00:31:08Like that's, you know, you just, you start to jump to like very different outcomes.
00:31:12So, um, I expect this one to be pretty disgusting game.
00:31:17I think I just, I do wonder Raven's coming off a, you know, walk over, be a walk
00:31:26over and the Steelers coming off the game where they got punched in the mouth for
00:31:29four quarters bad.
00:31:31Um, they're either going to come out with a vengeance or it's going to be like,
00:31:36oh boy, the shine is starting to come off and they're going to finish 10 and seven
00:31:40or 11 and six and be like a kind of crappy 11 and six.
00:31:43That's kind of what the two mediums I see here.
00:31:47So it's interesting to me, right?
00:31:49That Pickens has made progress and yet they declared him out early this week and
00:31:56the rationale being like, we don't want this to rear up again.
00:31:59So we want to make sure that he is as healthy as he can possibly be for the
00:32:02stretch drive, which we've seen teams with a guy, I'd say he's 90%, 85% like,
00:32:10hey, we're going to still use them because obviously their passing attack is
00:32:13not remotely the same without him out there.
00:32:16Uh, Wilson, the last two games without Pickens, uh, under 200 yards patch passing
00:32:20in each one of those games.
00:32:22But I, I'm going to flip it a little bit and say to myself, like my comp, Mike
00:32:27Tomlin has got a little bit of, I don't want to say it's an arrogance, but I think
00:32:31he has a lot of confidence in his football team.
00:32:32And he says, you know what, even if we don't beat the Ravens, even if we lose the
00:32:36division and still make the playoffs, if I have a healthy Pickens and you know, TJ
00:32:41Watt Highsmith, those guys are, are good to go on defense.
00:32:44Then I think he feels like for the first time, maybe in a long time that he has a
00:32:49team that can go someplace and travel and win.
00:32:53And I don't, I know he hasn't felt that way for since what, since Ben, before Ben
00:32:59blew out his elbow, which is now what, five years ago, six years ago, what it's
00:33:03been a long time, right?
00:33:04And they've always, as we know, we've talked about, they've always been competitive.
00:33:07They don't have losing seasons on our mic, but in years past you get to this point.
00:33:12And even if they got into playoff, you're like, Hey, you know, they might be able to
00:33:14muddy it up for a game.
00:33:15I wonder, do you think they can't push anybody?
00:33:19Do you think they're hoping it's just crazy to say this?
00:33:23Are they hoping to play Kansas city in round two?
00:33:26I wouldn't be shocked by that because they look at it and say that like your tackles
00:33:30are terrible.
00:33:32Our edge, Russ is our two best players or two of our best players.
00:33:35So TJ Watts, certainly they're best and make on Kelsey.
00:33:38And you feel like absolutely.
00:33:40And even like, even with that, with the secondary issues that, that Kansas city has, yes, you
00:33:44have McDuffie, but McDuffie was great in the slot and he's done a nice job stepping out
00:33:47being outside corner.
00:33:49He's given up a lot of size to pickings.
00:33:51Like, I just wonder if like that hasn't been awesome.
00:33:55Ross has actually played well against Kansas city at that time when he was in Denver, that
00:33:58was like the only team he played well against.
00:34:00I just, I'm curious.
00:34:01I don't know.
00:34:02I like them against Buffalo.
00:34:03It's a bad matchup for them because they cannot, they're not going to go score for score with
00:34:07them.
00:34:08Right.
00:34:09And I, I would obviously pick Kansas city, but I just play Kansas city.
00:34:13No, it's a, it's a great point.
00:34:15They will look at that and say, we can get to 2024.
00:34:19Maybe we get to 21, 20.
00:34:22Can we do that?
00:34:23Cause they're just not as we've seen.
00:34:26And even though the chiefs are playing a little bit better offensively, like I said, they're
00:34:30starting to find pieces and the Browns coming back, but like, they're not the team that's
00:34:34going to put up 35.
00:34:35They're not, you know, they're not, it's not the 13 second game where they score 36, but
00:34:40Casey's scoring 42.
00:34:42That's not it.
00:34:42That's not who they are right now.
00:34:43No.
00:34:44And I, I almost wonder if Baltimore would rather play Buffalo because they already stomped
00:34:48the crap out of them and feel like we can run the ball 67 times on you and there's nothing
00:34:57you could do about it.
00:34:58Right.
00:34:58And I, I don't know.
00:34:59And they've gone up.
00:35:00I just, it'll be interesting.
00:35:01That's I look at, I, this is what we do on the all 32 pod.
00:35:05We make you, we're trying to make you think and you start, you can't just think about
00:35:09this week's matchup.
00:35:10You have to look ahead a little bit.
00:35:11Yeah.
00:35:12So like I was thinking for this game, but obviously when we talked about Derek Henry
00:35:17and the signing, like this is what you got Derek for.
00:35:19You got him for January.
00:35:21You got him for these moments where, where you've got in the red zone in previous playoff
00:35:25appearances and you just relied on Lamar to do it.
00:35:27Well, now you have this other guy that you have to pay attention to because you can't
00:35:30tackle him with one guy.
00:35:31He's going to run through one guy.
00:35:32So you got a gang tackle.
00:35:33Now all of a sudden eyes are on him.
00:35:34And that's when Lamar pulls the ball out, rolls in a naked bootleg or, or rolls out
00:35:38in the flat and flips the one to a wide open Mark Andrews, who, by the way, after five
00:35:42or six weeks has been on an absolute tear, uh, the second half of the season.
00:35:46So I I'm very much looking forward to this game.
00:35:50Although, as you said, it will probably be a dirty, gross turnovers penalties.
00:35:58Like it's, it'll be called closely.
00:35:59Always is.
00:36:00Yeah.
00:36:00That's what they, that's what they do.
00:36:02All right.

00:37:13All right.
00:37:14It's kind of going through.
00:37:15There's a lot of games that you may have, or maybe a fringe playoff, but I'm interested
00:37:19in this one because the commanders have won two in a row.
00:37:24They're now nine and five.
00:37:25They host the 12 and two Eagles who based on what's happening to Detroit very well might
00:37:30now be the, I should have actually looked it up on, on various gambling websites.
00:37:36If they are the, in fact, the favorite now to emerge from the NFC Philly clinches the
00:37:41NFC East title with a win.
00:37:43Um, Washington currently a slim one game lead over Seattle for the seventh and final
00:37:48playoff moved into the plus two 20 Ryan's plus two 30 Packers and Vikings plus 600.
00:37:57I know somebody on this, uh, on this, on this podcast and plus 1800.
00:38:01Ooh, there's a couple of good long shot ones that, you know, if you're into that sort of
00:38:04thing, maybe just saying not plus 10,000, if you want to, if you want to burn your money,
00:38:13that's the one you do.
00:38:14Um, I'm curious what Washington brings.
00:38:16It's going to be a playoff environment.
00:38:18It's an important game for them.
00:38:19Um, after the success they had early in this year, they had fallen back.
00:38:24It's been a good rebound the last two games, but there's a caveat to all of this.
00:38:29Oh, and four versus teams over 500 this year, um, nine in one versus team sub 500.
00:38:35So not only is it an important game in the sense of you're trying to stay ahead of Seattle
00:38:39and fight your way into the postseason, but like, I'm not gonna, I I'm not taking you
00:38:45seriously until you win a game.
00:38:48Like you win this game.
00:38:49Okay.
00:38:50Maybe I can talk about you making some noise or, you know, winning a round in the playoffs
00:38:54or scaring somebody at this point, you're just going to be fodder for wherever you're
00:38:59playing the first round.
00:39:00Yeah.
00:39:02Yes.
00:39:02Um, I think this game, I almost, and so in a weird way, the Rams, Vikings and Lions are
00:39:15watching quite intently because if you're a Vikings or, or Alliance fan, and yes, the
00:39:22Packers have a shot, I guess, technically, but if you're a Vikings or Alliance fan, you're
00:39:25watching going, Hey man, they slip up here.
00:39:31Whoever wins out of the, you know, whoever wins the last three of the, one of these,
00:39:34one of the two of us is going to have to win like probably three last three and home, you
00:39:38know, one seed home throughout the playoffs, both teams are dome teams.
00:39:44They don't really probably want to have to go to Philly.
00:39:46So there's that.
00:39:47And then if you're the Rams, Seattle blew it last week, the Rams won a game.
00:39:52They probably maybe didn't think on, you know, beginning of the year, they were going
00:39:55to win.
00:39:56And now I get to just this week, you know, I think actually it'd be more difficult game
00:40:00than maybe people think we saw the Patriots Rams be close for a while.
00:40:05But if the Rams win this, you're going, we're nine and six, you know, commanders lose this
00:40:11one.
00:40:12Now we're at least a wildcard team.
00:40:14I just, I think if you're, if you're Washington, it'd be nice to have one statement.
00:40:20Right now the statement of wind feels like the bears game 10 weeks ago that, you know,
00:40:27in hindsight, it wasn't really that quality of a win at all.
00:40:29And they had no business winning that game.
00:40:32They got quite lucky.
00:40:32It clearly tanked the pair season, but yeah, Washington's just weird.
00:40:38They're a year ahead of schedule and it's like, they're going to get playoff experience
00:40:42and they're going to get hopefully 17 out of Jane Daniels and have the coach, have the
00:40:46quarterback, have the GM.
00:40:48They'll have, you know, we talked about is our Jamar chase team, you know, is it a, whatever
00:40:52it may be, right?
00:40:53There's a bunch of things there.
00:40:55And if you're Philly, I also, is there, I know it's Eagles commanders of said Redskins,
00:41:02but is there a little bit of a letdown from the emotional Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania
00:41:07matchup last week, kind of rebounding at home after the whole week, do you get the same
00:41:14juice?
00:41:15You know, his coaching staff, I, we talked about it.
00:41:19I have my questions when it's going to implode and it feels like it's on the bridge, the
00:41:24brink.
00:41:24And you have a report from diner senior says that locker room feels like 17 and 22 and
00:41:30I get it, but I also think that it feels a lot like 2023 also.
00:41:34And 2023, they lose this game and it's Jay and it's AJ Brown pissed off again.
00:41:39And it's a coach saying something and big Dom shoving, you know, shoving one of the
00:41:45commanders player like Bobby Wagner on the sideline, or is it really like 17 and 22?
00:41:49And they go in there and they stop the commanders who's a division rival and they put them in
00:41:53their place and say, we're going to take the one seat and we're not going to give it up.
00:41:56I'm interested to see it.
00:41:58Another one of those games where, well, these quarterbacks have like had some really nice
00:42:05moments this year and some other moments where you're just like, oh, hey,
00:42:09you know, like the Jane Daniels Cowboys game was ended up being a good stat line.
00:42:15But the first three quarters, you're like, dude, what are we doing here?
00:42:19And then I don't know where at 85, you're a touchdown and McLaurin and they scored like
00:42:2318 times in 12 seconds.
00:42:24And it was like, oh, okay.
00:42:26So yeah, I guess long, this game not only matters for these teams, but I think it matters
00:42:32a lot for the, this is a must watch if you're Vikings, Lions, Rams and Seahawks fan, you're
00:42:38going, can we help seating?
00:42:41Can we help ourselves distance and a wild card or, you know, or can we downright stay
00:42:46alive?
00:42:46If you're Seattle, quick audible, I'm calling on you right now.
00:42:50We were just talking about sort of the long shots.
00:42:53Okay.
00:42:54If you had to take a team, I'm eliminating bills, chiefs, lions, eagles.
00:43:02You had to take one team.
00:43:04Say if I had to put myself behind one team, eagles, lions, eagles, lions, bills, chiefs,
00:43:11all out.
00:43:13So you're picking the quote unquote, you know, the non-favorite, the top two favorites.
00:43:18Who would it be?
00:43:19What's it?
00:43:19I'm picking a non-favorite, a favorite.
00:43:21Non.
00:43:25Green Bay.
00:43:27Over the Rams, over the Vikings.
00:43:30You love yourself some Vikings.
00:43:32I do, but I think I have my biggest question marks with Minnesota and the Rams.
00:43:38I don't think or like get it when you get hot, it'll get fixed.
00:43:43I, I have just a little bit of concern with Minnesota where like that, when Robinson went
00:43:50out on, uh, I mean, um, what's his name?
00:43:53Right?
00:43:54Tackle.
00:43:54Oh my God.
00:43:5675.
00:43:57Yeah.
00:43:58Like Sam started getting smoked and it was like, Oh, but that's.
00:44:03And you're already done.
00:44:03You're left.
00:44:04And you already got your left tackle.
00:44:05And I was just like, ah, I don't know if it, you know, that just, that made me a little
00:44:08nervous.
00:44:10And then the Rams, the defense is just very, I just, it's so hit or miss weekly.
00:44:16And I don't know.
00:44:18I just, can you keep cups?
00:44:20Nicola Stafford and Kyron Williams healthy for seven straight weeks starting now.
00:44:24And I, we haven't seen it happen yet all year.
00:44:27So as much as I love them, green Bay has this, like when Jordan love plays, well,
00:44:33they're really good.
00:44:34And like, they probably should have gone to the Superbowl last year, you know, like that.
00:44:38And if Jordan love, you know, they kind of choked it away, Aaron Jones, as much as I
00:44:42love them, it's now two times in four years against the Niners and in a big playoff game
00:44:46where he should have scored.
00:44:47And for some reason cuts back and they don't score on that drive.
00:44:50It keeps happening.
00:44:51And then the game turns, uh, I'll go green Bay just because, like I said, I think they've
00:44:57been close all year and they've kind of not played a level ball in their 10 and four and
00:45:02their team that I think everyone like, I don't know.
00:45:06Schrager had Packers chiefs in the beginning of the year.
00:45:08And like for a while, I was like, yeah.
00:45:11And like, he's usually always gets this right.
00:45:13And the longer the season goes out, I'm like, I don't love it still, but like, it kind of
00:45:18makes sense.
00:45:20How about you?
00:45:20Where are you at with that?
00:45:22So this is going to be boring because you just said it, but I would say Packers too.
00:45:27And one of the things to me about them is, is some of the versatility defensively.
00:45:32And again, the defense had put up great numbers early in the year.
00:45:35And then sort of, it's been a little bit of a bit of a roller coaster, but I think there
00:45:38are pieces there in place to, um, cause some havoc on an opposing quarterback and opposing
00:45:46offense.
00:45:46And I just love what Josh Jacobs has brought to their offense, like for as good as Aaron
00:45:52Jones was for them for years.
00:45:55Like the last couple in particular became unreliable because it was constantly a hamstring,
00:45:59right?
00:46:00That was, and Jacobs has dealt with his share of injuries over the course of his career.
00:46:06Yeah, he is running awesome.
00:46:08I think they block, like, I just think it's a, it's a great marriage.
00:46:12And then when you bring the pieces that they have at receiver, oh, again, they're inconsistent.
00:46:17One week, Jaden Reed looks like one of the best receivers in football.
00:46:19The next week he's barely targeted.
00:46:21Uh, Wix has dropped a ton of passes that he shouldn't have this year, but he gets open
00:46:27Christian Watson.
00:46:28The last, let's call it the last month or so has become one of the best deep ball receivers
00:46:33in the league.
00:46:33And they are getting a big explosive out of him every single week.
00:46:37So like if one of those other receivers has the good game and Watson gives you the explosive
00:46:42and Jacobs continues to run the ball as well as he has.
00:46:45And Jordan doesn't do the, I'm going to throw the ball into a crowd instead of take a sack
00:46:50stupidity where, again, there's a lot of qualifiers there, but we're talking about
00:46:54the next tier.
00:46:55I think there are dangerous football team.
00:46:56I, and I think, I think little floor has gotten better as a head coach.
00:47:01I know their record was been good the entire time he's been there, but I just think he's
00:47:05one of those guys who was an offensive guy.
00:47:07I think he's sort of learned.
00:47:08He still lets the defensive guys do the defense, but like, I feel like he's more involved.
00:47:12He doesn't have his head buried in the play sheet as much as he used to.
00:47:15And I feel like they look better because of it.
00:47:18So sorry to double up on your boring answer there, but that's where I go.
00:47:22Let's finish off with the, the new England Patriots who are in Buffalo.
00:47:28I do not give.
00:47:30Well, I shouldn't say that.
00:47:31I was gonna say, I don't give a crap about the game.
00:47:32I was gonna say, Mike, I want to tee something up for you.
00:47:34I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna roll reverse this because I think it affects a lot of teams,
00:47:39a lot of fans of not just the Patriots, but Jets, Jaguars, Cowboys, potentially Eagles
00:47:45fans, Bears fans.
00:47:47There's a report by one of your coworkers on, you know, obviously in Greg Bedard, along
00:47:53with Tom Kiernan or Karen.
00:47:57Yeah.
00:47:58That Mike Fravo would have interest in the Patriots job.
00:48:01And I want to tee this up with, we talked about it last year.
00:48:04The Patriots have the bills two times in three weeks, as well as the chargers.
00:48:07This is a really difficult stretch coming up for them.
00:48:11We've been very critical of Gerard Mayo.
00:48:13I think at times complimentary when they have played competitive football at times,
00:48:16but there've been some really big gaffes or mistakes or just things you wouldn't even
00:48:22expect from a year one coach.
00:48:25A couple of things I'll tee it up to you.
00:48:26And cause this game has the potential to get really ugly.
00:48:30Buffalo is playing like a buzzsaw right now and new England's been getting, getting cut
00:48:34through like a buzzsaw on defense.
00:48:36I actually hope this is a high scoring game personally.
00:48:39One, do you, do you buy the Vrabel stuff after the way it went down last year?
00:48:44Two, if there's smoke, is there fire where there's smoke in terms of, could this thing
00:48:50really spiral into Mayo really losing his job?
00:48:53Cause I feel like an Albert Breer said, it's, he's unlikely, but it's, you know, Albert
00:48:57again, this is plugged in as you and Greg and everyone like, you know, that there is
00:49:02a shot here and three, how bad would it have to get?
00:49:05So my reporting all along has been that the crafts want to stay with Gerard and I think
00:49:13are still of that mind.
00:49:15I think last week, not only the performance coming off the buy, where again, the final
00:49:21score was 30 to 17, but it was a three score game, pretty much the entirety to garbage
00:49:25touchdowns at the end of the game.
00:49:27I think the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
00:49:33the two garbage touchdowns at the end of the game.
00:49:35Again, they kept bringing it back to 13, but like, you never felt like the Patriots were
00:49:40going to win that football game.
00:49:41And then of course the podium comments where again, Gerard Mayo was saying that he was,
00:49:47it was misinterpreted, but you said it, I didn't win regards to running Drake May down
00:49:52by the goal line.
00:49:53And if that was in fact throwing his offensive coordinator under the bus, speaking of which
00:49:59the offense coordinator we spoke to yesterday, Alex and Pelt, and he mentioned that my door
00:50:03is always open.
00:50:04If the crafts want to come in and talk to me, I've had good conversations with Robert
00:50:07in the past, but you know, if they had some concerns about what's happening, yeah, I'm
00:50:13here.
00:50:13You can, you can speak to me.
00:50:14So I think, I think several things.
00:50:17One, I think variable absolutely would have interest in coming back.
00:50:21I've talked about how they've, they mended their, their, the bridge that got burned down
00:50:27when they traded variable to Kansas city, because he made comments about Patriot place,
00:50:30which is the outside mall around Foxboro that obviously would not be there if not for a
00:50:35successful football team during the two thousands.
00:50:38And obviously into the two thousands and tens as well, as he was inducted into their team
00:50:43hall of fame last year and showed up in season to do that.
00:50:47It happened to be during a Titans by week.
00:50:48And that may have also contributed to the ending of his relationship with the Titans.
00:50:53I don't think that Gerard Mayo for again, for my 80, 85% he's coming back can afford
00:51:00to have more games where it looks like they're just not in control of what's happening and
00:51:07that look unprepared as they have, if not for what Drake has been able to do offensively,
00:51:12by the way, with Alex van Pelt is his, and again, Drake gets most of the credit because
00:51:16he's just, he's a very talented kid, but Alex has done a nice job coaching and helped him
00:51:22improve. And the fact that Alex is getting made to be the scapegoat.
00:51:25And I do believe that at the end of the year, Gerard staying and Alex is going like, that's,
00:51:32and I've been on this for a while, as you well know.
00:51:34But like, I do think that he's Gerard every week seems to open the, the, the door a little
00:51:40bit more for them to say, you know what?
00:51:43We kept saying, we want to bring it back.
00:51:45We kept saying, we wanted to give you a chance.
00:51:47And every week he did something else that we just stacked up and stacks up and stacks up.
00:51:52And we start to wonder, are you actually getting any better at this?
00:51:55Because my contention is at this point, again, despite a wretched roster,
00:52:00he's not gotten better at it.
00:52:01He's not getting better at the press conferences, whatever, but that's part of it, right?
00:52:06He hasn't gotten better as an in-game coach.
00:52:07He hasn't gotten better at his game plans.
00:52:09He's obviously very attached to the defensive side of the ball.
00:52:12The defense has been an abject disaster this year, worse than the offense and the offense
00:52:17again, hasn't been good.
00:52:18But when you're talking about Alex likely being the scapegoat, well, the guy that should
00:52:23be, if you were going to, if you had to bounce only one, one coordinator, it would be Demarcus
00:52:27Covington, but that's his guy.
00:52:28That's his side of the ball.
00:52:30And I've referenced a million times when Gerard criticizes the offense, he criticizes scheme
00:52:37and play calling.
00:52:39When he talks about the defense, the players, we were where we were supposed to be.
00:52:45We just didn't make the play.
00:52:47Sorry.
00:52:48When you do that for 15 weeks, 14 weeks, whatever you're telling me, I'm protecting my guy at
00:52:53all costs.
00:52:54And this other guy was foisted upon me because I don't have any connections.
00:52:59And that's Elliott will hire the 12th offensive coordinator.
00:53:01They interviewed becomes the guy that they hired.
00:53:04That's not my guy.
00:53:06So if I'm going to save myself, I'm going to put him firmly in the tracks.
00:53:10And if you run them over, you run them over.
00:53:12So I haven't liked this conversation because I do think one year is very difficult to determine,
00:53:20especially an inexperience.
00:53:22And I mean, incredibly inexperienced five years as a coach, never a coordinator is Gerard
00:53:27Mayo.
00:53:27And he's the head coach of a team that has a terrible roster after Bill Belichick, who
00:53:32wasn't Bill Belichick at the end.
00:53:34But obviously you're still getting measured.
00:53:36You're still getting measured to that.
00:53:38So I just think they put him in a bad spot, but I don't think he's reacted very well.
00:53:43And he's opened it every single week.
00:53:49He's he's he's invited it almost indirectly, directly.
00:53:53He even made a joke today about walking something back, which he's been criticized for a ton.
00:53:57Right.
00:53:58He says something has to walk it back.
00:53:59And then he made a joke about it, which I don't know, is that tone deaf or is it just
00:54:03like I hear, you know, I say I don't hear what you're saying.
00:54:06I hear what you're saying.
00:54:07And I'm just going to make I'm going to make a crack about it.
00:54:09Like, I'm just you just don't touch it.
00:54:11It's like a third rail at this point.
00:54:12Yeah.
00:54:13The one question I guess I would have is I think variables the best candidate, but.
00:54:20Is he a lot to get that job is like to me, you know what, if you're I know I've been
00:54:26writing, if you're going to blow this guy out who you had loyalty to, who is Robert
00:54:31said he identified at a retreat in Israel five years ago or whatever it was.
00:54:35Yeah.
00:54:36Then you damn well better do it for someone.
00:54:38Like, I don't think you can go to another inexperienced guy.
00:54:40Like, as much as you go to Ben Johnson, I don't know that you can.
00:54:44And I don't.
00:54:45And obviously Ben's coached a lot longer and has experience now.
00:54:48Like, I understand that Lord, there's the resume is certainly a lot longer, but now
00:54:53it feels to me like, man, we bleep this up.
00:54:56And what we need is stability.
00:54:58And who of the candidates out there would bring that for you and bring that culture
00:55:03thing that we talked about when we've talked about Vrabel and the Jets?
00:55:06Like, to me, it's him.
00:55:07And I don't know that he might be the guy to get you over the next hump with Drake
00:55:11and become a Super Bowl team.
00:55:13But I do know that if you're talking about we are runner list right now, and we have
00:55:18no identity, and he's not going to step in it, or if he does, he's capable of getting
00:55:23out of it, whereas this guy just steps in it again.
00:55:25So like, it's almost like it's one or the other.
00:55:29You're either coming back with Mayo, and you're just going to support him with more
00:55:33veteran assistance and whatever.
00:55:35You know, ex-head coaches on your staff, or you're going, you're gone, and you're
00:55:39gone, and you're gone, and Elliot, you're gone, and everybody's out.
00:55:43And it's a new GM, which would be, if Vrabel's coming, it's going to be Ryan Cowden, who
00:55:47would have been his guy or was his guy at the end there in Tennessee and is now working
00:55:51for the Giants as a special advisor.
00:55:54Like, that's what you do.
00:55:55And I think if it's Vrabel, I think it's Josh McDaniels coming back.
00:55:58Like, get the old, you know, not the old band back together, but bring your OC who lives
00:56:02in Westwood, which is, you know, a stone's throw from Foxborough.
00:56:06And oh, by the way, he's being paid another three years and $40 million by the Raiders.
00:56:11So I'm sure there's offsets.
00:56:13So you're not going to have to pay him a lot of money.
00:56:15And I don't think then on top of that, you have to worry about him leaving, because I
00:56:18don't think he's getting another head coaching job.
00:56:20So if Mike is happy with Josh and that's what you're doing, then that's what you're
00:56:25doing for the foreseeable future.
00:56:26And you don't have to consider, we got to make this change.
00:56:29We got to do this.
00:56:29We got to tweak that.
00:56:30No, Vrabel would oversee defense.
00:56:33You'd have a guy calling the offense.
00:56:35There you go.
00:56:35What about two questions?
00:56:37What about Deon?
00:56:38If you pick three, it's a craft has made the splashy move.
00:56:44He's, I think he likes the.
00:56:48Oh, he definitely likes headlines.
00:56:50And I think he'd like to steal Deon from Jerry.
00:56:54If they pick third Travis Hunter's there and they know that they're going to get Travis
00:56:58Hunter, cause it's going to go one, two quarterback and Deon's I'll be back.
00:57:05But like he has coaching experience now.
00:57:07And as much as I think it'd be a train wreck in some respects, I also can understand the
00:57:12allure with a certain ownership group.
00:57:15Is there a world in which no one's talked about it?
00:57:18And I'm just floating the idea.
00:57:20Deon would have his quarterback.
00:57:22So there's no need to like be worried about developing him.
00:57:25Cause he's already getting developed.
00:57:26And I'm sure Deon could bring somebody.
00:57:28He has more experience as a coach.
00:57:30At some point it would bring a ton of buzz to new England and he'd have Travis Hunter
00:57:35and Christian Gonzalez.
00:57:36And it's like, oh, is there a world in which like, he's the sneaky, he's the other big
00:57:42name, right?
00:57:43I think that we talk about the coordinators.
00:57:45I think there's the McCarthy's, the variables, the, you know, just the fan skis, potentially
00:57:50those types of guys that are repeat head coaches.
00:57:54Deon's the name that keeps getting thrown around with Dallas and Vegas and the jets
00:57:58and these other teams.
00:58:00If new England was to make a choice and it wasn't variable, cause there's no guarantee
00:58:03Mike would take that job.
00:58:04I think that he's interested in all the jobs.
00:58:06I think he wants to be wanted.
00:58:07And I think if the jets go, I think if the jets offer him five for 65, he's going to
00:58:12take the job.
00:58:13And I think if somebody else does, they'll take the job.
00:58:16It's crazy thought as it is, is Deon like, does Deon not make a little bit of sense if
00:58:22they pick third?
00:58:24So certainly from the, the headlines, the, um, you know, the Jerry craft relationship
00:58:31is weird as hell.
00:58:32It's getting worse because Robert, I just can't see it.
00:58:38And, and honestly, I can't see it maybe more from Deon's point of view.
00:58:42Is that what he wants to do?
00:58:44I don't know that he like, not that Colorado, but like Boulder is like the center of the
00:58:50universe, but like he hates me.
00:58:52There's Foxborough colder here, right?
00:58:54It's a Boulder is nicer than here.
00:58:56He's closer to the West coast.
00:58:57He's closer to, you know, like, I don't know.
00:58:59It just doesn't feel like from a, his own personal standpoint, that's a great fit.
00:59:05And even from a cultural standpoint, we're not exactly, uh, flashing dash.
00:59:12And that's not to say there's not substance behind Deon too.
00:59:14Obviously he's building another winning program.
00:59:16So like, to his credit, uh, you can't take that away from him.
00:59:20I'm just saying Deon's is going to be a heavy hand and Travis Hunter where he goes.
00:59:25And I just, it's just one of those names where we, there's only certain destinations that
00:59:30make sense.
00:59:31And that's one that like, at least as a conversation, like, I don't think there's
00:59:35a jets make any sense in the world at all.
00:59:37I don't think Jacksonville and these other ones, but Dallas, maybe Vegas, New England,
00:59:43either have a quarterback or might have his son or an owner that, by the way, he, I mean,
00:59:49Florida, obviously he's a Florida, but like, and I know Jacksonville comparatively speaking,
00:59:55it's not my, they gave him a power to like, bring whoever he wants.
00:59:58And that would bring some juice to a program that doesn't have any.
01:00:02I know, but they went for the urban juice and.
01:00:05Right, right.
01:00:06But yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:00:08It turns out urban was one of the great frauds of all time.
01:00:11Um, yeah, no, it's, it's an interesting point you raised.
01:00:15I just, I have a hard time.
01:00:17The other ones, the other ones, Miami, if they move off McDaniel is which, what did
01:00:21I see today?
01:00:22The record of him versus over 500 teams in the three years is one in 10, I think, or
01:00:26one in 11, I think it's, yeah, it's not great.
01:00:29I mean, I, again, the one wins at home against Dallas.
01:00:33It's probably.
01:00:36They just extended him though.
01:00:38I don't know.
01:00:38That might also be unfair.
01:00:40Like, I don't think he's a bad coach.
01:00:41I think they're looking to play a certain type of football and that certain type of
01:00:45football doesn't carry in December and January in the elements.
01:00:50So you gotta go through Buffalo right now.
01:00:52You gotta go through Kansas City and they're not built that way.
01:00:55Um, they probably expected to, or to take another step forward.
01:00:59And like, then the injury happens again this year.
01:01:01And now the way they're managing the offense is a little bit different in part, I think
01:01:05to keep them safe, right?
01:01:06Like not, not that he doesn't throw himself into the middle of stuff with his head first,
01:01:11but like in general, it feels like the game being called a little bit differently to make
01:01:15sure you preserve your quarterback who, again, they committed a massive, um, amount of money
01:01:20too.
01:01:21So, uh, ah, good conversation.
01:01:23I enjoyed that.
01:01:24It's interesting to give some people some stuff to chew on, uh, before we get out of
01:01:28here, let's do our prize picks.
01:01:29I have four of them for you to, from the, uh, the Patriots build game.
01:01:35I'm going to surprise people.
01:01:38I'm going to take less than 234.5 yards passing for Josh Allen.
01:01:43And why I'm saying that is because I think I'm going to run for 50 yards.
01:01:47James Cook's going to run for a hundred and he might not have to do anything by about
01:01:52midway through the third quarter.
01:01:54Um, so there there's that, uh, Hunter Henry, I, uh, though it didn't happen last week,
01:02:00more than 42 and a half yards receiving.
01:02:03Uh, I think the way Buffalo plays defense, especially if, again, they're committed to
01:02:08zone, he'll find some holes in the zone, have success.
01:02:11And then I'll give you two others, Joe Burrow, more than 24, 274 and a half yards passing
01:02:18and Jameer Gibbs, who would now see Sonic or knuckles.
01:02:22I think he's, I think he's Sonic.
01:02:24Great.
01:02:24Uh, yeah, I can't, I can't remember Sonic knuckles, but the other guy, David Montgomery
01:02:29is out at least for the foreseeable future.
01:02:31Uh, which means more touches for Gibbs, which I'm going to be excited for more than 92 and
01:02:36a half yards rushing.
01:02:38I will give you three.
01:02:40I'm going to go more, uh, on Baker Mayfield yards over 236.5.
01:02:45Like it Dallas is defense's trash.
01:02:49Uh, at, at least at points, you know, trade eggs and these guys get injured a lot and
01:02:54Bakers, I don't know.
01:02:56Baker go whenever he goes home.
01:02:57He usually puts on a bit of a show.
01:03:00I'm going to go less, uh, on Gino Smith, passing yards.
01:03:03Um, they're at home, but banged up Minnesota's defense throws a lot at you.
01:03:08I could see him in like the one 90 to 200 range more on Devante Adams receptions.
01:03:15Um, feed the beast.
01:03:18He's on a roll right now.
01:03:19And the Ram secondary is, it's interesting, uh, to say the least.
01:03:26Lastly, I can't believe I'm going to do this.
01:03:30Mack Jones, Mack Jones, more passing yards in Vegas last week, as bad as he has play
01:03:38at times and as Brian Thomas jr.
01:03:40Should have 150 by himself.
01:03:44His max number is at 204, I believe.
01:03:46So I don't think it's asking for anything crazy.
01:03:49That game's going to be good friend.
01:03:50Jason McCourty, uh, will be on the call calling Jags at Vegas in week 16.
01:03:56Uh, the Raiders want to lose.
01:03:59We know that it's quite obvious.
01:04:01Jay's got to work himself up from the CRD team.
01:04:04He's got the capabilities to do it.
01:04:06He's got to work himself up and you got to pay your dues.
01:04:09Unless you're Tom Brady.
01:04:10And, uh, yeah.
01:04:13So I'm going to go Mack Jones more.
01:04:14I just felt like last week.
01:04:16It didn't even feel like he was doing anything at all.
01:04:18And it's still just like one or two big plays.
01:04:21You're at 200 yards.
01:04:22So, um, Devante more Mac more, I believe I went, uh, who does it less?
01:04:30I just told our Gino Smith lesson more on Baker Mayfield.
01:04:33Perfect.
01:04:33That is going to wrap up this edition of the all 32.
01:04:36We will be back at the beginning of next week to wrap the whole thing up and move on to
01:04:41week 17.
01:04:42And, uh, I get a, well, we have a fairly clear, at least idea of who's going to be in the playoffs.
01:04:47But again, start to sort out some playoff seating possibilities.
01:04:51He is Will Parkinson.
01:04:52I'm Mike Giardia.
01:04:52Remember to like, listen, subscribe, rate, review, do all those things.
01:04:56You get the podcast, uh, wherever you, uh, get your podcast anywhere.
01:04:59And of course you can watch us on YouTube as well.
01:05:02Thank you for doing that.
01:05:03Uh, and we will see you at the beginning of next week as we get into not only late in
01:05:08the season, but also holiday time.
01:05:11I'll, I'll give you my address so you can send me the gift.
01:05:13Is that, that how it's going to work?
01:05:14Yeah, of course.
01:05:16All right, buddy.
01:05:17I will talk to you next week.
01:05:38Bye.
