00:00It's him in Burlingame. Hey Tim, thanks for calling.
00:03Hey gentlemen, how you doing? Mark, I work at Burlingame High where your dad worked.
00:07No way, Tim. What do you do over at Burlingame?
00:11I teach AP Lang. And I called you guys about a year ago to help you learn the difference between
00:17run the gantlet versus run the gauntlet. I don't remember that. You gave me a lot of crap.
00:21I do remember that, although what I don't remember is then the conversation that ensued. So I still
00:28have no idea what the difference is, but thank you for trying. That's good. Hey, so I have an
00:33imperfect but interesting analogy about the warriors, right? I had a friend who had this,
00:38she had an orchid and it started to kind of die. And you know, the, the beauty of the bloom at the
00:43top. And we said, well, what's going on? She's like, well, you know, I keep pinching off these
00:47little buds on the bottom because I think they're sucking the life away from the beautiful bud at
00:51the top. And we were kind of like, that's not really how it works. Right? Like that guy. So
00:59sort of like this, this beautiful aging orchid is still kind of beautiful. And she keeps, she was
01:05plucking off all the new buds that were actually going to sprout and become the new beautiful
01:09orchid. It's an imperfect analogy, but it's what I thought of when I thought of you two arguing a
01:14few minutes ago. And I appreciate it. I hope you guys have an amazing, uh, you know, winter break.
01:20You, you, you as well. I appreciate it so much. A big day for winter break, by the way. I mean,
01:26most, most schools it's three 56. I think they're already out and about y'all. Y'all just got out,
01:30didn't you? Well, a lot of them. It's a minimum day today. I know they've been out for a while.
01:34Oh, for sure. My daughter actually is, uh, not only was she out earlier, they're already in the
01:39city playing soccer right now. Nice. They're playing university. I don't know. They're
01:44playing somebody right now. Yeah. Finals were over hours and hours ago, but if you are a newly
01:50minted winter breaker, uh, congrats. It feels pretty good. Two weeks go crazy. Um, anyway,
01:57the idea though, like I fully get his analogy, however, I kind of missed it. Like you're
02:03pinching the bud off the orchid. Well, he's saying that if you trade the comingas and the pods and
02:07the moodies of the world, you're pinching off of the, the, the new blooming flowers,
02:12uh, in an effort to let the, the big flower, the big established flower stay strong. Right. And
02:19he's saying, I don't think that the flowers work that way. And that's a fair opinion to think that
02:22maybe the warriors won't work that way either. The only difference, I guess, to the analogy,
02:26and he admitted it was imperfect. I don't think anybody's suggesting that cominga and pods or
02:32anybody else even unnamed draft picks. I don't think they're pulling away from Steph Curry.
02:37I don't think they're taking his shine or whatever. Um, they have not become at least not
02:45yet the necessary stems to support the big orchid. Um, and like maybe that timeline doesn't work for
02:53them. I'm not even blaming them for that, but at the same time, if there's a way to sort of
03:01regenerate those leaves and turn them into a stronger supportive piece for the big flower,
03:07um, I still think it's worth it to do it. I know a lot of you think that the big orchid is already,
03:13it's dying. It's wilting. Yeah. The flowers, you can't like, you can prop it up with, uh,
03:20sticks and stems and you can, you know, try to bring another flower in to dress up the pot
03:25and the orchid that you have, but the big orchid is fading and it's, it's dying. It's aging out.
03:31And that's okay. That's what happens with orchids. And we actually get a lot of orchids in our house
03:35and sometimes they last three months. Sometimes they last six months and the six month ones are
03:40great. And it's like, man, I think lasted a long time. And this orchid Steph Curry has lasted a
03:45long, long time and it's been beautiful. It's been one of the greatest flowers in the history
03:50of flowers. And yet here we are. And it's getting that time to the point where,
03:55you know, you're losing some leaves and it's almost time to part with that flower.
04:00And you could try to prop it up if you want and, you know, give up other assets to bring
04:04in something else. I just don't think that's a smart move to make.
04:07Yeah. I totally understand that. Do you know what's interesting about the conversation we're
04:11having right now? Um, I just caught this. Sometimes you, when you see it in print,
04:17it's different than when you're having a conversation with someone. Yeah. So
04:20Monty pool joined us earlier. NBC sports Barry's very, very tapped in, um, the station also known
04:26as director of sports, Lucas Alexander has put one of his quotes up on Twitter, on our Twitter feed.
04:34Good job. Another one of your good impressions. Thank you.
04:39When you read it, I caught something that I didn't catch the first time when he said it,
04:44listen to this now quote, I know they're going to be active, but I don't sense Mike Dunleavy
04:50or Joe Lakeham feel they have to do something right away. They want to play it out for a few
04:56days and see how it goes. I didn't catch a few days for a few days, right? Like when you tell me
05:04on December 20th, they're not panicking. They want to play it out. Like my brain goes, Oh,
05:11so that's at least another month. He said they want to play it out for a few days.
05:20Do you want to hear it? Why don't you do the legal first? And then I'll play that.
05:23Wow. That was forceful. And I like that. I like that. You're listening to 95,
05:28seven, the game. Why don't you stop? Tell me what to do. KGMZ FM and HD one, San Francisco
05:33on odyssey sports station. It's always live on the free odyssey app, Twitch and YouTube
05:37powered by first NorCal credit union for a low rate auto loan apply online, or just ask for
05:41first NorCal financing at the dealer. How'd you like that? I liked it a lot. Okay. Here's
05:45Monty pool from the two o'clock hour. You can go use the free odyssey app to listen,
05:49but here's a portion. I know that they're going to be active and talking to other teams trying
05:53to make something happen. But I also know that I don't, I don't think at least that, uh, Mike or
05:58Joe feels like we got to do something right away. I mean, they still have about five, six weeks
06:02before the trade deadline. And I think that they're thinking, okay, let's, then it's just
06:06got here. Let's see how this looks for a few games. And before you, before we started looking
06:09at other options, uh, in terms of doing something pretty quickly, but right now I don't sense that
06:14they want to do something tomorrow or the next day or the next day, I think they want to play
06:17it out for a few days and see how it goes. Well, he said before a few games and he also
06:22mentioned five or six weeks till the deadline, six weeks, maybe is a misquoting. He ends with,
06:29they want to play it out for a few days and see, but I think the overall tenor of what he's saying
06:35is the deadlines in five or six weeks, they want to see it for a few games. At least I don't think
06:40that I heard him say, yeah, by Wednesday, they're going to make their move. I agree. But I think
06:46that in a few days or a few games, they start to further form their opinion. Sure. Like right now,
06:54they are, as Anthony Slater even said a couple of weeks ago, it is information gathering season.
07:01And right now, that's why, like, if you're having a hard time with the urgency of the games,
07:06you know, Draymond, ah, no one loses a championship in December. That's true.
07:10That's true. But you might lose your roster spot. You might lose your home
07:14because you might get sent to Detroit. Like this is these are huge games as far as the front office
07:24forming opinions. I think they're massive right now. Agreed. And, you know, you want to talk
07:28about until the deadline. And we mentioned it yesterday as you get into the deadline, which is
07:34February 6th. They have a game that day against the Lakers. So by the time you get to the deadline,
07:38you will have played 50 games. You play Utah the day before the deadline at Utah. So right now,
07:43you've played 26 and you have 24 more to go. So I think when you look at the next five or six
07:50weeks, that becomes a little bit more of a of a fair barometer, more than like the next three
07:56games you play Saturday, Monday, Wednesday. We talked about it before you play every other day
08:00now for the better part of like the next month. Right. It's pretty much every other day. Boom,
08:05boom, boom, boom, boom. So you're going to get a good idea pretty quick of where you are.
08:08I'm going to bet you that this happens before the deadline.
08:11Well, if it doesn't, it has to happen before the deadline. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
08:14no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
08:15I'm not trying to be. You know what I said? Don't be. Don't don't don't. I had to do it.
08:19Don't with your exact words. You just tried to make me a bet you that this happens with some
08:24space prior to the deadline. So before February 1st. Well, the deadline's what? The 6th. The 6th.
08:33Yeah, I definitely think it's a January move. OK, now that that is something I can sink my teeth
08:38into. And I bet you they make a move before the deadline if they make a move. I bet you they make
08:42it while I'm still in my 40s. And your birthday is January 17th. No, 23rd. It's somewhere in there.
08:50It's like it's not in that window, actually. It's like that. Why don't you just guess every
08:55single day? Keep going. Why do you mind your own business? Remember, and price is right when it's
08:59that number. And then you finally go to twenty one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight,
09:03nine. Yeah, you win. My ex is the 13th. My late father is the 17th. My brother is the 25th. Why
09:10are you bringing up other people? Because I know your birthday isn't one of those days. That's
09:14correct. And I know it's not early, early January. It's also correct. I do believe it's in that mid
09:20because you're so mid. Oh, thank you. Yeah. See what I did there? Whatever. Granted, I don't even
09:26care. You don't have to grade it. It felt good coming out. January 11th is your birthday.
09:33You're off by two weeks. There is a fair two weeks to be the 25th. I'm captain. It was 24.
09:40I'm I'm. Yeah. Who cares about birthdays? I boy, most over celebrated thing in the history of
09:45mankind. I care. And mine's coming right up. I know you care. You're one of those people. I'm
09:50less than eight months. Celebrate your half birthday. February 15. Like a freak. I mean,
09:56get to the stores early. Anyway, I bet the 24th, I won't forget by the 24th,
10:02the Warriors make a transaction. Want to bet? No. Okay. Because I think they will make a
10:09transaction now. No, no, no, no, no. They're not sending someone to the G league. This is what you
10:14do. No, this is what you do. You, you do this and then, oh, see, I was right. They made a transaction.
10:20Pat Spencer, two-way contract. I do not laugh like Farhan. It's not even similar at all.
10:25But what you do is you make these, you make these wagers and I agree to it. You're trying to give
10:31me the guru treatment. The Warriors will acquire a player who averages more than 15 points a game
10:39by January 24th. I mean, I'm not going to, I'm not going to dispute that. That's not a big move.
10:47Like, what do you mean? It's not a big move. They got Dennis Schroeder, right? Is that a big move?
10:51Big ish. It's not like, it's not, I mean, it's not Giannis. Now, if you want to talk about,
10:56it's not, it's not small. Are they going to land a big game? Are they going to land
11:01somebody who's making 40 million a year? You got to define those people. Somebody
11:05making 40 million a year is not, that's not a big acquisition then. No, it wouldn't be a
11:10big acquisition. I think that'd be pretty big news. That's a 20 and 10 basketball player in
11:15the NBA. 20 and 10? Yes. Yeah. I mean, yes. Average is a double, double 20 and 10. That
11:21would be a good move. Yeah. I think that's a big move. We're talking about a big, big game,
11:26honey. That's not a big game, honey. That's now, I mean, that's debate show stuff.
11:32What are we doing here? We're debating and we're doing a show. If it goes that way. Yeah. We're
11:36doing a show. I'm talking about actual warrior basketball. That's a pretty significant
11:41acquisition if they make, well, if you want to just do this for the sake of the debate,
11:45you agree with me. No, they won't. They won't have me. No, I don't think that they will make
11:51it a bet. I don't think that they will because they're going to continue to slide and slip and
11:55slide. And so you're going to get to January 24th, your big, big birthday. You get to put the
12:01five on it. You got five on it coming up here in about a month, big dog. And by then they're going
12:08to be two games below 500. It's going to be yawn city. Not going to make me cry, Roy. I'm not
12:12trying to trigger you. I'm just pointing out the obvious. Let's go to Telmo in the city. Hi,
12:16Telmo. What's up? Be closer to a hundred than zero. Yeah, I'm down. Go ahead. Telmo. What up
12:22Telmo? What's up fellas? How you guys doing? Happy Friday. I'm headed to the, uh, I'm headed
12:30to the little guy's preschool holiday party. So it's going to be a blast. Oh, I bet every parent
12:36is like, just what we wanted to do for winter break. Go back to school.
12:42No, they, today's the day we get to take them home for, uh, 15 days, which at this point
12:47is going to feel like an eternity. I'm already looking forward to sending them back. Anyway,
12:53go ahead. There's cocktails at this whole shit.
12:58Anyway, so I'm calling, you know, I've been hearing all these things and I think somebody
13:02earlier, I don't know if it was on this show or the show before was like, Oh, they should trade
13:06Steph Curry for LaMelo ball and three draft picks and a, and a dandelion wish and a prayer and this
13:13and that. And I don't think people realize as much as you, we were fans of a basketball team.
13:19Um, Joe Lake bought a basketball franchise for $500 million that is now worth, uh, north of
13:269 billion, the most valuable franchise in the NBA. And they're valuable two reasons because
13:32they've won a lot recently, more, more so, you know, a handful of years ago than, than currently.
13:38Um, but a huge part of that reason is Steph Curry. Steph Curry is a generational player. He
13:45changed the game. He is global. He is an ambassador for the sport. He's an ambassador for other sports.
13:52Children love them. Uh, men want to be like them, all those things. If you do not just trade
13:58that guy away. So maybe you can get three games better and, and get, and get the fifth seed
14:05instead of the seventh seed. That's not a realistic thing. So people can keep on going back and forth.
14:11And unless it was to be something so significant that you feel you would keep your franchise on,
14:18on this Mount Rushmore of winners and, and, and that trajectory, they're not going to get
14:23rid of Stephen Curry, uh, for just some, but for some, you know, slightly above average league
14:30player and some draft picks. So we've all seen could amount to nothing at all. No,
14:35Telmo. No. Like it was this earlier show. Tell me, thanks. Tell me. Yeah.
14:41Steph goes and plays with his brother and plays for the franchise where his dad was.
14:46And you get, who brought this up? Some caller and you get a lamella ball and you get some
14:51picks and you started over with, you know, the mellow ball is an exciting young player,
14:55but I don't know if he's ever going to be a one. I mean, who is a champion? Yeah.
15:01And that's great. And I think he's a, he's a good young player and he's having a great year,
15:04but I don't know if he's the guy that I would want to build around, but that's what an earlier
15:08caller said. Yeah. Look, I, we don't even need to get into the absurdity of the idea of Steph
15:14Curry. I'd rather come out, come at it from this angle. The Warriors aren't doing that,
15:18right? Like, like it is the hardest stop non-starter that, that the organization has
15:25ever known. They will flat out not do it. You could, you could offer them LeBron, Michael
15:33bird and magic at their primes. And the organization would say, no, thanks.
15:38They, they are more interested right now in this man, finishing his career with the Warriors than
15:42they actually are in the idea of winning another title. I believe they should be. And that's what
15:47Monty pool was telling us in the two o'clock hour. You just don't, you don't trade players
15:51like Steph Curry. You just don't do it. Now the idea of trading for someone around Steph,
15:57and maybe it only makes you a game two or three better. I will say this, like you got to remember,
16:03you don't get to know the result when you make the trade. So to me, I I'm just a big fan in
16:11the value in trying, like you, you cannot be afraid to fail. You cannot not do things like
16:21I'm a bit, do you know who Gary Vee is? Uh, I think, uh, there and Chuck, or I don't know how
16:27to pronounce his last name. Vaynerchuk big, big marketing guru. And I'm a big fan of his. And
16:33especially if you're a teenager or in your twenties, you should follow him. Just go to Gary
16:39Vee. You should follow him on social media because he's an absolute master motivator and
16:44he is smart and he has made a whole lot of money because of how smart he is. And, and his big
16:50message will constantly be, dude, just keep doing it. Keep doing it. Do not stop being so afraid to
16:58fail. Stop worrying about what other people think. And I think the warriors and a lot of professional
17:03sports franchises are good at that. They're not worried about what we think they may be tuned in
17:08and they're listening. They know that it's helpful to know, but they are not going to be
17:13swayed from what they think based on this conversation. Well, just because you do something
17:19doesn't mean that it's going to work. And just because you don't do something doesn't mean that
17:24that also won't work. Correct. But whatever you think is the right thing to do, do it with
17:30everything you got and they will. And I hope it's not trade young players for some rental of a guy
17:37who's not going to help you anyway.
