00:00The United Nations Children's Fund reported that 2024 has been one of the worst years
00:14for children in recent history.
00:20In South Korea, at least 177 people lost their lives on Sunday when an airliner skidded off
00:26the runway and crashed at Muan International Airport.
00:33And in Venezuela, authorities inaugurated the Special Forces Training Complex Commander
00:37Eliezer Otaiza.
00:41Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisa Studios in Havana,
00:50Cuba.
00:51We begin with the news.
01:09Fourteen months into the conflict in the Gaza Strip, the death toll has risen to 45,484,
01:16including more than 50 Palestinians killed in the last 24 hours.
01:20According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 52 people died after falling victim to the most
01:25recent Israeli attacks, which caused the disappearance of 11,000 Palestinians who remain under rubble.
01:31One of the assaults by the Israeli army was carried out against the Kamal Adwan Hospital
01:36in Beit Lahaya, where armed men surrounded and forced the evacuation of approximately
01:41400 people and then set fire to the building.
01:45The Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemned the aggression, calling the sieges clear violations
01:51of international humanitarian law.
02:01And this Sunday, a fifth Palestinian baby froze to death due to the extreme cold affecting
02:06Gaza amid the ongoing Israeli genocide.
02:09The death was registered in the locality of Deir al-Bala, where dozens of displaced families
02:14live in tents and in inhuman conditions due to Zionist troops' aggression.
02:19Authorities reported that the baby was barely one month old, and detailed that the health
02:24condition of his twin brother was worsened by the low temperatures.
02:27He is the fifth newborn to die in less than a week due to freezing because of the lack
02:32of supplies due to the blockade of humanitarian aid by the Tel Aviv regime.
02:40The Palestinian government criticized the failure of the UN Security Council to stop
02:45the Israeli aggressions against the Gaza Strip.
02:48The foreign ministry regretted the inability of the security body to assume its responsibilities
02:53as mediator in the conflict, while Israeli forces take advantage of the situation to
02:58advance with their expansionist and extermination plans.
03:02The foreign ministry also condemned the bombing of hospitals and homes, which forced thousands
03:07of civilians to leave the territory.
03:09In this sense, the government warned that the crisis in Gaza leads to the loss of credibility
03:14in international institutions.
03:23An Israel crowd took part in a large demonstration in the streets of Tel Aviv to denounce the
03:27failure of Benjamin Netanyahu's government to secure the release of Hamas prisoners.
03:32During the protest, they demanded that a prisoner exchange agreement be offered with the Palestinian
03:37Islamic Resistance Movement.
03:39Opposition groups also accused Netanyahu of obstructing the ceasefire agreement in order
03:44to maintain his position in the face of threats of overthrow by the security and finance ministries.
03:50Some of the families of the Israeli detainees sent a message to the newly elected U.S. President
03:55Donald Trump, urging him to pressure the Israeli Prime Minister to accept an agreement with
04:00Hamas.
04:01And we want to, President Trump, President-elect Trump, to know that the vast majority of Israelis
04:12want an end to the war and bringing back the hostages in a comprehensive release deal.
04:18This is the vast majority, every post, but he keeps, you know, portraying the picture
04:24otherwise and this is why we want to warn President Trump that Netanyahu is trying to
04:30deceive him.
04:32Today, as we light the fourth candle of Hanukkah, our loved ones mark 449 days in captivity
04:42in the hell that is in Gaza.
04:45Negotiations for their release are at a critical point.
04:49It is possible to secure a comprehensive deal, yet Netanyahu, for his own criminal motives,
04:57refuses to end the war, which is a requirement for the release deal to happen.
05:04In other news, the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, says that 2004 has been one
05:10of the worst years for children in recent history.
05:13According to United Nations data, armed conflicts like the ones in Palestine, Lebanon and Sudan
05:18have meant malnutrition, forced displacements and psychological trauma for the children
05:24in those countries.
05:25According to the agency's report, over 473 million children live in conflict areas and
05:3049% of the people displaced by conflict happen to be children.
05:35UN data indicates that in the first nine months of this year, more children were killed than
05:40in 2023.
05:46In Chad, the French army has vacated the military base of Faya after the military agreement
05:50between Paris and Yemen was cancelled.
05:54According to official reports, the French army left Faya by land heading for Yemena,
05:58780 km southwest of the country.
06:01The French army's staff general said that the handover of the base takes place according
06:05to the sketch established in agreement with the Chad Armed Forces.
06:10The Chadian Ministry of Defence said military vehicles stationed at the French bases of
06:13Faya, Largo, Abeche and Yemena were to be transported to France via the port of Douala
06:20in Cameroon, with January set as the deadline.

06:45In Georgia, Mikhail Kavelashvili was running on Sunday as president after being elected
06:50by a parliamentary majority on December 14, 2024.
06:54The swearing-in ceremony took place in the Georgian Parliament, attended by deputies,
06:58religious leaders and the heads of the Constitutional and Supreme Courts.
07:02Mikhail Kavelashvili became the first president of the country to be elected not by popular
07:07vote but by electoral college, a voting in which opposition parties did not participate,
07:12for they say the procedure was flawed.
07:14Prior to Kavelashvili's inauguration, former President Salom Tsuravishvili left the presidential
07:20residence despite having threatened to remain in power.
07:28In North Korea, the authorities announced the implementation of a tougher strategy against
07:32the United States following its growing military cooperation with South Korea and Japan.
07:37North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has set new tasks to cope with increasing military provocations
07:43by Washington and its vassal forces against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
07:48Officials say they have been banking on accelerated progress in defense science and technology
07:53to firmly defend the country's inviolable sovereign rights.
07:57In late November, Kim blamed the U.S. for being the ringleader of the disruptors of
08:01peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, so he set military build-up as one of his
08:06irreversible policies.
08:10Meanwhile, in South Korea, a commercial airliner burst into flames Sunday morning after skidding
08:17off an airport runway and slamming into a concrete barrier when its front undercarriage
08:21failed to deploy during landing, killing at least 179 people.
08:27In what is considered one of the country's worst air disasters, the National Fire Agency
08:32said rescuers rushed to get people off the Jeju Air jet carrying 181 passengers at the
08:37airport in one city, about 290 kilometers south of Seoul.
08:42The transportation ministry said the plane was a 15-year-old Boeing 737-800 returning
08:47from Thailand.
08:48Furthermore, rescuers pulled out two crew members, and local health officials say they
08:52were conscious.
09:07In the United States, at least one person died and four others were injured after five
09:16tornadoes hit the state of Texas.
09:18Authorities also reported structural damage to homes and other buildings as a consequence
09:23of these weather events.
09:24The National Meteorological Service confirmed the likelihood of further tornadoes, warning
09:29that the storm could intensify during the afternoon and midnight hours of Sunday.
09:38In Brazil, the authorities have issued a contamination warning for all rivers in the country due
09:44to the concentration of pesticides found in such waters.
09:47On December 22, the collapse of a river bridge between the states of Maranao and Tocantins
09:53caused the fall of two trucks carrying chemical products, including herbicides and sulfuric
09:56acid, which led to the contamination of the water.
10:01After conducting a study to check the quality of river waters, they found significant amounts
10:05of highly toxic chemical herbicide in rivers nationwide, a compound that had been used
10:10by the United States during the war in Vietnam.
10:13The authorities are alerting the population about the risks of coming into contact with
10:17river water throughout the country, and to refrain from doing so.
10:25An imperial 91 ports had to close due to unusual rough seas along the coastline from the southern
10:31region of Iloh to the coastal border of Ecuador.
10:34According to the Emergency Operations Center, the unusual waves caused by strong winds have
10:38caused damages and prompted emergency situations in the northern regions of Tumbes and Pura,
10:44where an undetermined number of small fishing boats have sustained some damage.
10:48In the El Nudo Cove in the region of Pura, about 100 artisanal fishermen are reportedly
10:53stranded and their families are asking the authorities to send them water and food, since
10:58they have run out of provisions.
11:00The Navy's Hydrography and Navigation Department has warned that the abnormal swell will persist
11:05until January 1st.

11:37December 30th marks 20 years of the fire at the former Republica de Croma Young Nightclub
11:42in the city of Buenos Aires, where 194 young people died and more than 1,400 were injured.
11:48Different organizations of survivors and relatives of the victims will carry out different cultural
11:53and social activities during the weekend to continue the demand for memory and justice.
11:59The tragic fire started when a fan lit a flare during a performance by the national rock
12:04band Callejeros and reached the flammable material on the roof, thus spreading throughout
12:08the venue, trapping and suffocating fans inside, whereas the emergency exit was closed.
12:19A federal judge in Argentina ordered the Minister of Justice Mariano Cuneo Libarona to stop
12:24the dismantling of the Undersecretariat for Protection Against Gender Violence.
12:29The order thus granted a precautionary measure requested by civil organizations to avoid
12:34the emptying of the institutions that work in defense of children, women, and adversities
12:39in situations of violence.
12:41On the other hand, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child also expressed its concern
12:46about the institutional and political changes that are taking place in Argentina and the
12:51impact they may have on the protection of children.
12:58In Venezuela, the Special Forces Training Complex Commander Eliezer Otaiza was inaugurated
13:04this Sunday.
13:05The ceremony was headed by Politics, Citizen Security, and Peace Sector Vice President
13:11Diosdado Cabello, who was accompanied by chiefs and members of the Venezuelan State Police.
13:18At the inauguration, Cabello said the purpose of this center is to train a specialized force
13:22made up of components from all security forces to protect the peace of the people.
13:28The Interior and Justice Minister stressed the importance of Commander Eliezer Otaiza
13:32for the Bolivarian Revolution and for Commander Uchavez.
13:36Cabello said this project should not only serve for Special Forces of the National Police,
13:40but for the whole country.
13:48A project that should not only provide special training to the police, but to all other forces
13:58in the country, including the Popular Units for Peace, and folks from the communities
14:03may also come here to get special training.
14:08This place has the advantage of being by the sea and next to the mountain.
14:14This is part of the people's power.
14:19All this has to do with implementing the fundamental strategy that we are carrying out, which is
14:27to fuse popular forces, the military, and the police.
14:33The Venezuelan Attorney General's Office responded this Sunday to Argentine Foreign Minister
14:37Gerardo Bertin in the framework of the investigation against fellow Argentine Manuel Gallo, arrested
14:43in Venezuela for being involved in conspiring against the country.
14:48Through a statement, Attorney General Tarek William Saab published that a man burning
14:53a golden cradle and representative in foreign affairs of a government that is a laughing
14:58stock worldwide for its submission to the U.S. and Israel for its diplomatic incoherence,
15:04its cheap boasting, its psychotic pretensions beyond all reality, pretends to give me lessons
15:09on justice and human rights causes, me compassion and pity.
15:13The Attorney General argues that Bertin's arrival at the foreign ministry could not
15:17have had a worse message since its predecessor was fired for voting together with 186 countries
15:24of the world, including all of Latin America, against the criminal blockade against Cuba.
15:29His president went into a rage because she did not vote alongside her Israeli and U.S.
15:36bosses.
15:37Attorney General William Saab stated, in Venezuela we are fighting at the risk of our lives for
15:42the defense of our sovereignty and against the cruellest imperial enemy in history as
15:47seeks to bathe our land of grace in blood.
15:50The text concludes, history will put everyone in their place, but you and your henchmen
15:54have already entered through the back door into the garbage dump of the underworld.

16:14Nation.
16:15The Association expressed its rejection of the U.S. economic blockade and its addition
16:20to the list of countries promoting terrorism.
16:23The Association's leader, Sveto Dobryzhevich, stressed that the most important activity
16:28of the year was to collect signatures of engineers, professors and artists in connection with
16:33the global campaign condemning the categorization of Cuba as a terrorist nation.
