00:02:53 I thought that when I got a divorce as a pastor,
00:02:57 I thought my life was over.
00:02:59 'Cause you know how church folk can be.

00:03:08 And so I was like, man, I gotta deal with these church folk.

00:03:11 But I kept striking the ground
00:03:14 and I found that girl right there.

00:03:19 And I'm telling you, the Bible,
00:03:21 I now know what the Bible means
00:03:23 when it says, "He who finds a wife."
00:03:25 And let me tell you something to you, to you fellas,
00:03:29 just 'cause you found a female,
00:03:30 don't mean you found a wife.
00:03:32 There is a difference.
00:03:35 The Bible says, "He who finds a wife."
00:03:38 Ladies, let me tell you something.
00:03:40 The Bible says, "He who finds a wife,"
00:03:41 which means you don't become a wife when you get married.
00:03:44 If he finds a wife,
00:03:47 that means you were one when he found you.
00:03:52 Touch every woman you can touch and say, "I'm a wife.

00:04:55 So I prophesy to you as I lay this book in your hand,
00:04:59 God's going to bless you unconventionally,
00:05:02 and that things don't have to be in order
00:05:04 for you to get to where God wants you to be.
00:05:06 I promise you he'll do it.

00:06:18 This may be the youth church,
00:06:23 but this anointing can't be contained,
00:06:27 and this kind of energy,
00:06:29 see, you all are young enough to run 30 years
00:06:33 before you get tired,
00:06:34 and the kingdom of heaven
00:06:38 is gonna have people at the helm of it
00:06:42 that will like Jesus,
00:06:44 'cause all of you,
00:06:45 according to society,
00:06:46 you're the rejected stones.
00:06:48 You're the generation that's lazy,
00:06:52 the generation that don't know nothing,
00:06:53 but let me tell you,
00:06:54 God's gonna take the rejected stone,
00:06:56 and he's gonna make you the chief cornerstone,

00:07:24 So let's look at 2 Kings 13, verse 14.
00:07:29 2 Kings 13, verse 14.
00:07:36 Let's just find out,
00:07:38 anybody got a real Bible in here?
00:07:39 Anybody got a real?
00:07:40 All the real Bibles go up.
00:07:42 I remember preaching,
00:07:45 all I had was a Bible and some type notes.
00:07:48 Oh, we got apps and all that kind of stuff,
00:07:50 but I wanna share something.
00:07:53 I gotta read this one out of the King James version
00:07:55 of the Bible.
00:07:56 I just like the way it sound.
00:07:58 I like the way it sound.
00:08:00 And we're talking about the death of Elijah, the prophet.
00:08:08 The Bible says, "Now Elijah was sick."
00:08:11 Everybody say, "He was sick."
00:08:12 And this sickness would eventually lead to his death.
00:08:18 "And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him
00:08:22 "and wept over his face and said,
00:08:24 "O father, my father, the chariot of Israel
00:08:27 "and the horsemen thereof."
00:08:29 "And Elijah said unto him,
00:08:32 "Take bow and arrows, and he took them."
00:08:38 "And he said to the king of Israel,
00:08:39 "Put your hand on the bow.
00:08:42 "And he put his hands upon it.
00:08:46 "And Elijah put his hands upon the king's hands.
00:08:52 "And he said, open the window eastward and he opened it.
00:08:54 "And then Elijah shot the arrow.
00:08:56 "And he said, the arrow of the Lord's deliverance

00:09:12 I wanna skip down a couple of verses
00:09:15 just to contribute to the brevity of time.
00:09:18 The Bible says in verse 19,
00:09:20 "And the man of God was wroth with him and said,
00:09:22 "Thou should have smitten five or six times."
00:09:25 'Cause he only did it three times.
00:09:28 But he should have done it more.
00:09:30 Somebody say, "You should have done it more."
00:09:33 I was thinking about that family
00:09:34 that's moving here from South Dakota.
00:09:37 And Tyrone Googled it in the back.
00:09:40 How many of y'all drove to church?
00:09:44 And be honest, I need you to be completely honest.
00:09:45 You almost didn't come when you thought about
00:09:47 all that it would take for you to get here.
00:09:49 Just raise your hand.
00:09:50 That's perfectly fine.
00:09:52 Until you think about the fact that they drove 22 hours.
00:09:55 (congregation cheering)
00:09:58 And 14 minutes.
00:09:59 And I know you can't do that all at one time,
00:10:02 which means they stopped somewhere,
00:10:04 got some rooms, went to sleep,
00:10:07 but they kept striking.
00:10:08 You know how many times they had to go to the gas station?
00:10:13 You know how many Doritos is in the backseat
00:10:16 of that car right now?
00:10:17 But they kept coming.
00:10:20 They kept coming.
00:10:21 They kept coming.
00:10:22 Don't you ever allow the distance to your destiny
00:10:25 to deter you from getting there.
00:10:29 When God says you are supposed to be a place,
00:10:31 if it takes you 22 hours,
00:10:36 if it takes you 22 hours, you get there
00:10:40 because God will do something for you at the right place,
00:10:43 at the right time, and in the right season
00:10:46 that you cannot get where you currently are.
00:10:50 And that family, I praise God for you
00:10:54 because God is getting ready to turn everything around
00:10:56 in your life and everything you've been praying for
00:10:59 has been connected to this ministry the entire time.
00:11:03 He struck the ground three times.
00:11:05 The prophet told him you should have done it
00:11:07 five or six times.
00:11:09 The pastor told you earlier what this message is about.
00:11:12 It's for people who feel like your efforts
00:11:14 are not producing fruit.
00:11:16 But I promise you that they that wait on the Lord
00:11:20 will renew their strength.
00:11:22 That means you gotta keep coming.
00:11:24 You gotta keep going.
00:11:26 You may be seeing the presence of the Lord.
00:11:27 I wanna talk today on this subject.
00:11:29 I'm just simply gonna call it I'm on strike.
00:11:31 I'm on strike.
00:11:34 Everybody just touch your name and say I'm on strike.
00:11:35 I'm on strike.
00:11:36 I'm on strike.
00:11:37 So recently my wife and I, we went to Los Angeles
00:11:44 and I took her there to go see her mother for the summer.
00:11:50 We went and we stayed at a hotel and we got to the hotel.
00:11:56 Pastor Travis, he walked up to the counter
00:12:00 and things are different in the hotel
00:12:02 than they normally are.
00:12:04 Been to this hotel a multiplicity of times.
00:12:06 It's very consistent.
00:12:08 That's why we go in.
00:12:09 When we walked in, the piano,
00:12:11 the guy with the Afro and the white jacket,
00:12:15 he wasn't over there playing.
00:12:18 And the bar that's normally stocked with attendants
00:12:24 and people sitting around it ordering and eating food,
00:12:27 they were not there either.
00:12:28 We looked around, didn't know what was going on,
00:12:31 but we went up to the front desk
00:12:33 and we checked in and immediately upon checking in,
00:12:36 they gave us a sheet of paper and said,
00:12:38 "Sorry for the inconvenience.
00:12:40 "We don't have a full staff, $250 off per night
00:12:45 "and a $100 food and beverage per dim that you can use,
00:12:51 "but I'm sorry we don't have room service
00:12:55 "'cause we don't have nobody to bring it to you.
00:12:57 "You're gonna have to come down and get it.
00:12:58 "Oh, and when you come down and get it,
00:13:01 "you may have to wait a long time
00:13:03 "because we don't have any waiters."
00:13:05 Now, I'm like, "Let's get out of here.
00:13:09 "I don't wanna stay."
00:13:11 But they talked us into staying
00:13:14 and they told us the reason why they were not
00:13:17 at full capacity is because the workers were on strike.
00:13:21 And we realized that if we had switched hotels,
00:13:26 things would have been the same everywhere we went
00:13:29 because the entire hospitality industry
00:13:32 in the city was on strike.
00:13:34 There was nowhere we could go
00:13:39 where people in that industry were not tired.
00:13:41 There was nowhere we could go.
00:13:44 We couldn't go anywhere where people in that industry,
00:13:47 in the city we were in,
00:13:48 there was nowhere we could go to change our situation
00:13:51 because a group of people got together
00:13:53 and decided that they were not going to take the wages
00:13:58 and the treatment and whatever else it was
00:14:00 that they were dealing with.
00:14:01 They came together and they decided as a union,
00:14:04 we're not taking anymore.
00:14:06 We checked out, we went back home.
00:14:09 My wife went back a month later to the same hotel.
00:14:12 She got back there and this time,
00:14:15 a man was playing the piano.
00:14:17 This time, the bar was open,
00:14:21 but they were still on strike
00:14:23 because every once in a while,
00:14:26 people will start out with you,
00:14:27 but they won't finish with you.
00:14:29 Some of the people who were in the strike,
00:14:33 they didn't have the courage to keep striking.
00:14:36 They didn't have the money to not get paid.
00:14:38 They hadn't set their life up ahead of time
00:14:41 to handle a strike,
00:14:42 so they had to go back to something
00:14:43 they didn't like or love early
00:14:45 because they didn't prepare their lives for the long haul,
00:14:49 but they were still on strike.
00:14:50 And my wife was frustrated
00:14:51 because at six o'clock in the morning,
00:14:54 they were out chanting and shouting
00:14:56 and screaming on bullhorns for 30 days.
00:15:01 And I don't know, maybe if we were to go back right now,
00:15:04 they would still be on strike
00:15:06 because there are some things in your life
00:15:10 that are worth you being violent for every single day
00:15:15 until you get what God has for you.
00:15:17 I'm afraid we live in a time
00:15:20 where if we get a job and we're not the boss
00:15:23 in 30 days, we deem,
00:15:25 this ain't the job God got for us.
00:15:28 I fear that we live in a day
00:15:30 that if we join the praise team
00:15:31 and we don't have a solo in two weeks,
00:15:33 this ain't the church God wants us to go to.
00:15:36 I feel like we live in a day and time
00:15:38 that when you join a church,
00:15:40 you expect everybody to know your name
00:15:42 the moment you get here.
00:15:43 There are too many people for us
00:15:44 to know your name right away.
00:15:46 And by the way, instead of leaving church
00:15:48 because people didn't speak to you,
00:15:49 how about you speak to somebody?
00:15:51 (audience laughing)
00:15:54 We live in a time
00:15:58 where nobody wants to do what it takes over
00:16:01 and over and over and over again.
00:16:05 Anybody, I'm going to tell you the best movie ever made,
00:16:08 ever made, and I don't care what you got to say about it,
00:16:10 it's "The Fine Heartbeats."
00:16:11 Now, I dare you to say something.
00:16:12 I'll come out there and fight you right now.
00:16:14 It's the best movie ever made.
00:16:15 Say something.

00:16:20 Y'all remember when they were writing that song,
00:16:22 "We Haven't Finished Yet"?
00:16:24 If you don't know what I'm talking about, you ain't real.
00:16:26 You ain't real, you ain't saved.
00:16:27 If you don't know what I'm talking about,
00:16:28 your salvation might be up for question.
00:16:30 They were writing a song called "We Haven't Finished Yet,"
00:16:33 and they kept balling it up and throwing it away
00:16:35 and balling it up and throwing it away.
00:16:37 And eventually, they wrote a song out of the pieces.
00:16:40 They grabbed one sheet of paper out of the garbage can,
00:16:45 another sheet of paper off the top bunk bed,
00:16:48 another sheet of paper,
00:16:49 because your life will be made out of your broken pieces.
00:16:52 Slap your neighbor and say, "I just found out
00:16:56 that he's intentional."
00:17:00 Never fail.
00:17:02 All things are working together.
00:17:07 For my good, touch your neighbor and say,
00:17:10 "Pick up the pieces."
00:17:12 You have to pick up the pieces.
00:17:13 You got to pick up the pieces.
00:17:14 God is writing the script of your life,
00:17:15 even though your life is in shambles.
00:17:17 What your daddy didn't do, that's a chapter.
00:17:19 What your mama didn't do, and let me tell you something.
00:17:23 Oftentimes, you're angry at your parents
00:17:25 for what they didn't do,
00:17:26 but you need to reassess and realize
00:17:28 it isn't what they didn't do,
00:17:29 it's what they didn't have to offer.
00:17:31 Because if you go back and check the Bible,
00:17:36 there was a man named Mephibosheth who was dropped.
00:17:39 He was handicapped by the time he had children.
00:17:41 Sometimes, your parents are not abdicating
00:17:44 their responsibility.
00:17:45 They are only responding to the dysfunction
00:17:48 of the person that dropped them
00:17:49 before they became your mama.
00:17:50 God writes your script out of the pieces.
00:18:00 You remember when you got fired from that job?
00:18:03 That's a chapter.
00:18:04 You remember when you had the repossession?
00:18:08 That's a chapter.
00:18:11 You remember when you had more outgo than you had income?
00:18:15 That's a chapter.
00:18:16 How many of y'all grew up broke?
00:18:17 Let me see your hand.
00:18:18 I'm talking about broke.
00:18:19 I'm talking about the kind of broke we were
00:18:21 where a Cinnabon was bread with butter in the middle.
00:18:26 You put it in the oven, sprinkle some sugar on it,
00:18:31 and then put some cinnamon on it,
00:18:33 and that was called Cinnabon.
00:18:34 I knew y'all was rich in Columbia, South Carolina,
00:18:40 but I grew up where we had a cast iron skillet,
00:18:43 and we used to fry bologna,
00:18:45 and the way you knew it was done
00:18:46 'cause it would puff up in the middle.
00:18:48 Uh-oh, look like somebody that grew up
00:18:51 on the rough side of the mountain.
00:18:52 I'm talking about lemonade was lemon juice and sugar.
00:18:55 And now I know how to budget my money
00:19:07 'cause I came from a mama who didn't have any.
00:19:10 Chapter.
00:19:10 Chapter.
00:19:14 If you are paying attention to life,
00:19:17 it is teaching you lessons.
00:19:18 The problem with most of us is we go through life
00:19:21 as a teacher and not as a student.
00:19:22 Touch your neighbor and say, "Pay attention, pay attention,
00:19:26 "pay attention, pay attention."
00:19:28 You need to even be paying attention
00:19:30 to who God strategically sat next to you today
00:19:33 because while you acting stuck up
00:19:35 and can't speak to nobody,
00:19:36 they might be the answer to the miracle you looking for.
00:19:39 Look at your neighbor and say, "I ain't trying to holler,
00:19:41 "but what's your name?
00:19:41 "What you do for a living?
00:19:43 "'Cause I got something that God needs to do in my life
00:19:46 "and I can't do it by myself.
00:19:48 "And I'm wondering, have we been strategically
00:19:52 "put beside each other to get to the next level?"
00:19:55 So just look at 'em and say, "What's your name?
00:20:01 "What's your size?
00:20:02 "What you do, boo?"
00:20:02 I'm just trying to figure out.
00:20:04 Now, if you single, I am too,
00:20:05 and we can talk about that after service,
00:20:08 but as for right now.

00:20:12 When we got to that hotel,
00:20:22 they didn't give us those accommodations
00:20:25 'cause they love us.
00:20:26 We've been there before.
00:20:27 They ain't never gave us nothing.
00:20:29 They gave us what they gave us
00:20:32 because we were affected by the strike.
00:20:35 Trying to figure out,
00:20:37 are you going to strike the ground so hard
00:20:40 that people need accommodations for what's about to happen?

00:20:47 I just need every row, every row,
00:20:50 to get a representative
00:20:51 'cause everybody on your row ain't going to get this.

00:21:14 and let the devil know that we mad as hell too.

00:21:18 we coming for our kids, our money,
00:21:21 our marriage, our mental, our health.
00:21:24 Somebody shouted this.

00:21:29 Somebody shouted, "I'm coming for it, I'm coming for it."
00:21:31 I didn't drive all the way down two knots
00:21:33 to act like a single-parter.
00:21:35 I came, I thought this was the club.
00:21:37 I thought this was club two knots.
00:21:39 I wanted to know, is there anybody recognize
00:21:43 that today is ladies' night?
00:21:44 I'm looking for about 500 women
00:21:47 that recognize God is about to bring you out of something.
00:21:50 I need every woman in here to shout it's my time.

00:21:56 The reason they went on strike
00:22:05 is because the majority of the people decided
00:22:08 we're not settling for this.
00:22:10 See, you can't do this by yourself.
00:22:13 Ma'am, one can chase a thousand, that's the Bible.
00:22:16 Two can put 10,000 to flight,
00:22:18 which means that I can only do a thing by myself.
00:22:21 But if I connect with his faith,
00:22:22 I can deal with my demons, his demons,
00:22:26 his sister's demons, his mama's demons,
00:22:27 his cousin's demons, watch this,
00:22:29 and his future demons.
00:22:31 You need to find somebody you can connect with
00:22:34 and tell them I'm going to be pulling on you all day.
00:22:39 So tell them I'm going to be pulling on you all day.
00:22:42 I got generational curses I'm trying to break.
00:22:44 I'm going to be pulling on you all day.
00:22:46 I've been to therapy, that didn't work.
00:22:48 I've been depressed, that didn't work.
00:22:50 I took medicine, that didn't work.
00:22:53 I'm going to try something different this season.
00:22:55 I'm going to strike the ground
00:22:57 with somebody who ain't jealous of me,
00:23:00 with somebody who ain't mad,
00:23:02 with somebody who ain't trying to get ahead of me.
00:23:05 Have you found the right neighbor yet?
00:23:10 Have you found it?
00:23:12 'Cause some of y'all neighbor,
00:23:13 I'm looking at some of y'all neighbor, they like.
00:23:15 Some of y'all neighbor ain't even trying to do nothing.
00:23:20 I need you to, I'm telling you, we almost done.
00:23:22 You need to find somebody
00:23:24 and tell them I'm going to be pulling on you all day.

00:23:33 that I cannot get by myself.
00:23:37 I got money coming, but I don't know how to manage it.
00:23:43 I got money, but I don't know where the investment.
00:23:47 So if I take your knowledge and my money,

00:24:17 but the truth is, is he knew how heavy the tool was.

00:26:19 My biological father used to have a dog named King,
00:26:27 German Shepherd.

00:26:31 we just now getting used to dogs.

00:26:47 and all that stuff, when it was nothing but pit bulls

00:26:51 You ain't get no dog 'til they got little.
00:26:53 He had a German Shepherd, I ain't fooled with him.
00:26:58 Every time I came over there, they had to put King up.
00:27:02 'Cause King, he liked to play and he was a little rough

00:27:06 And you know how when you don't like dogs,
00:27:07 they can just touch you and you feel like you got bit.
00:27:09 Have you ever, they just, oh, you just.
00:27:14 And they put King behind the gate every time I came over.
00:27:18 This time, I was messing with him.
00:27:21 Doing like this and King's like,
00:27:27 that's what King did, he bagged up.
00:27:28 And he ran into the door, boom.
00:27:32 Ain't nobody scared of you.
00:27:38 Do it again, King bagged up.

00:27:44 The door said, "Oop."
00:27:45 And that dog kept bagging up and running into that door
00:27:54 until it got wide enough for him to get through it.

00:29:08 Nobody would give a four-year-old church a loan.
00:29:14 Y'all know about it, okay?
00:29:17 So we went to 10 banks.
00:29:19 I don't know how many y'all went to.
00:29:20 Every one of them told us,
00:29:21 even the black bank told us no.
00:29:23 (audience laughing)
00:29:26 We thought for sure we going to the black bank.
00:29:30 We black, they black.
00:29:31 They said, "Nope, you're too black.
00:29:33 (audience laughing)
00:29:34 "You ain't got no money."
00:29:36 (audience laughing)
00:29:39 But I kept applying.
00:29:42 I kept striking.
00:29:45 I kept striking.
00:29:46 So what I did is I went to the church
00:29:48 where we're at right now,
00:29:49 and I went in, it was a Hispanic pastor.
00:29:51 There was Assemblies of God.
00:29:52 We own 30 acres of land.
00:29:54 And when I went there, now at the time,
00:29:58 listen, you praising God, thank you, Jesus,
00:30:01 but our first offer was $796.
00:30:04 (audience laughing)
00:30:06 I took $796 worth of faith
00:30:09 to a $7 million building.
00:30:13 (audience cheering)
00:30:15 And I went in, I said, "Man, the Lord told me,"
00:30:19 it's on tape, it's on tape.
00:30:21 If it wasn't on tape, I couldn't say it.
00:30:22 They videotaped it.
00:30:23 I said, "The Lord told me that this is our church."
00:30:26 He said, "Now I tell you what, He's right,
00:30:33 "but He didn't tell you I'm the pastor.
00:30:34 "We're supposed to merge."
00:30:36 So we'll merge our churches.
00:30:38 I'll be the bishop and you can work under me.
00:30:40 I said, "He ain't tell me that."
00:30:41 He told me this was our church.
00:30:44 He said, "Okay, well, I'll lease it to you.
00:30:45 "I'll rent it to you."
00:30:46 I said, "For how much?"
00:30:47 He said, "$12,000 a week."
00:30:49 Now you can't, right, and you can't rent $12,000 a week
00:30:56 when you ain't made but $796.
00:30:59 So he says, "We can't do it."
00:31:03 So he told me, he says, "What are your financials like?"
00:31:06 I told him how much money we had in the bank.
00:31:08 He told me with $60,000, he said,
00:31:10 "Man, you ain't got enough money
00:31:11 "to turn the air conditioner on in this building.
00:31:13 "You can leave."
00:31:15 Now I'm from Gary, Indiana.
00:31:16 So all of the thug came out of me.
00:31:20 I was like, so I start bagging up
00:31:24 and I told him on the way out, I said, "I'll be back.
00:31:27 "Oh yeah, brother be back."
00:31:30 I left.
00:31:31 I came back three years to the date.
00:31:34 Came back three years later to the date.
00:31:38 Pastor Rodriguez, "How you doing, sir?"
00:31:40 He said, "Are you back?
00:31:41 "You want to talk about renting?"
00:31:42 I said, "No, you should've got me when you had me
00:31:45 "'cause last time you met me I was a renter.
00:31:49 "I came back this time to buy it."
00:31:52 I said, "How much is the building for?"
00:31:56 He said, "$8.9 million."
00:31:59 I said, "The Lord told me to pay 6.4."
00:32:02 Now that was partly true.
00:32:04 The truth was it's about this time
00:32:08 I had already gone to the bank.
00:32:10 I knew that the most I could get.
00:32:12 Lord forgive me for my sins.
00:32:18 I knew the most I could get was 4.4.
00:32:22 I had two million.
00:32:23 So I put two million cash down on it.
00:32:27 Borrowed the other 6.4.
00:32:30 He told me 8.9.
00:32:33 I said, "No."
00:32:33 Came back 30 days later.
00:32:35 He said, "8.1."
00:32:37 I said, "Did you have heard what I had said?"
00:32:40 I said, "6.4."
00:32:42 He said, "7.9."
00:32:44 I said, "What part of 6.4 do you not understand?"
00:32:49 He said, "6.9."
00:32:53 I said, "You don't have faith."
00:32:55 I left.
00:32:56 30 days later, he called me.
00:33:00 He said, "Pastor, you still willing to make a deal
00:33:09 at 6.4?"
00:33:11 I said, "I don't know."
00:33:12 I don't know.
00:33:18 I'm feeling 5.6-ish in this season.
00:33:21 I don't know.
00:33:22 I don't know.
00:33:23 I don't know.
00:33:24 (audience cheering)
00:33:27 But even though I could have negotiated him down,
00:33:32 I paid the price the Lord told me to pay.
00:33:34 Y'all better hear me.
00:33:35 And as I was going to the center
00:33:39 at the title company to close,
00:33:42 as I was on my way, it was scheduled.
00:33:44 They called me and told me
00:33:46 that my mother was on the phone screaming and crying
00:33:49 because my grandfather had just died.
00:33:52 Now, for some of y'all, that might not mean,
00:33:53 but my grandfather was my father.
00:33:55 He raised me.
00:33:59 So when he died, I almost died with him.
00:34:03 I had to cancel the closing
00:34:06 because I did not have the wherewithal
00:34:08 to close that building.
00:34:11 I recovered 30 days later, went back to sign the papers.
00:34:16 And while I was signing, I look at my lawyer
00:34:19 and his face changes.
00:34:22 He doesn't say anything to me.
00:34:23 He waits until we get to the church building.
00:34:25 He gives me the keys.
00:34:26 I go in and I start running around the building.
00:34:29 The Lord gave it to us.
00:34:30 And he's at the back door.
00:34:31 I said, "Man, you've been looking sad all day.
00:34:33 "What's wrong?"
00:34:34 He said, "Your uncle died
00:34:35 "while we were closing on the building."
00:34:37 Three days later from there, his daughter,
00:34:42 my oldest cousin, she died of a brain aneurysm.
00:34:45 All within 33 days.
00:34:52 But I kept striking.
00:34:53 Kept striking and now it's time to have church.
00:34:58 And so for people who take this kind of stuff for granted,
00:35:01 it's time to have church.
00:35:03 I done spent all of the money on the building.
00:35:06 Where they gonna sit?
00:35:07 'Cause ain't no seats.
00:35:12 But the ones he got,
00:35:14 he wants to sell me 20 year old seats for $65 a piece.
00:35:20 (congregation murmurs)
00:35:23 They were so dirty, you could see people's heads.
00:35:29 You know how you can see the brown?
00:35:32 People's heads were in the seat.
00:35:34 I said, "You gonna sell me 20 year old seats for 60?
00:35:38 "They're $65 brand new."
00:35:40 He thought he had me in a situation.
00:35:42 He says, I said, "No."
00:35:44 He said, "Okay."
00:35:45 He takes the seats and put them in the storage.
00:35:49 The storage flooded.
00:35:50 And dry rotted all the seats.
00:35:57 We had our first service with everybody standing up.
00:36:01 And everybody gave $65 and I said,
00:36:03 "Wherever you stand, I want you to buy a seat
00:36:05 "where you stand."
00:36:07 And let me tell you right now,
00:36:09 we've got 2,500 in that building,
00:36:11 1,700 in the next building,
00:36:13 and a 200 seat overflow and four campuses.
00:36:16 And the building today, watch this,
00:36:20 I paid 6.4 for it.
00:36:22 Ask me what it's worth now.
00:36:23 20 million.
00:36:25 You know why?
00:36:29 'Cause if you don't stop striking,
00:36:31 God won't stop blessing.
00:36:34 I need somebody in here right now to open up your mouth
00:36:37 and begin to shout until God adds to it.

00:37:21 Now I'm renting it back to him.
00:37:26 You don't hear the words that are coming out of my mouth.
00:37:29 God is going to make the lend of the borrow.
00:37:32 I prophesy that your enemies don't have to pay you rent.
00:37:38 I prophesy.

00:37:42 I don't even know what I'm talking about right now.
00:37:51 I don't know who I'm talking about.
00:37:55 I'm talking about Elijah.
00:37:56 At the time of the text, Elijah is 100.

00:38:06 But the thing about it is it has been 50 years
00:38:09 since the Bible has recorded anything that he's done.
00:38:12 This is a word for everybody.
00:38:14 Now you ain't going to shout on this one,
00:38:16 but this one is more important than anything I just said.
00:38:18 We haven't heard from him in 50 years.
00:38:23 And all of a sudden he pops up on the scene
00:38:25 because let me tell you something young people,
00:38:27 especially for you,
00:38:28 you have to have a season in your life
00:38:31 where nobody knows what you're doing.

00:38:36 Y'all post everything.
00:38:40 You post your waffles.
00:38:43 You post your mimosas.
00:38:48 You post in your location.
00:38:51 You post in your address and your license plate number
00:38:57 and you don't even know, you just post everything.
00:39:00 And everything ain't what it posts to be.

00:39:05 You got to have some secrecy in your life.
00:39:08 Stop meeting somebody and then showing the whole world
00:39:12 who you dating two days later
00:39:14 and then get mad because somebody calling you a name
00:39:17 because you done posted five different people
00:39:19 in the last month.
00:39:21 If you keep your business your business.
00:39:24 Oh, I knew you was going to get quiet.
00:39:30 Because you're trying to be a part of an algorithm
00:39:33 and the only thing you're doing
00:39:34 is showing the devil where you're headed.
00:39:36 It ain't worth the likes.
00:39:41 It ain't worth the followers.
00:39:44 There has to be a season where nobody knows
00:39:49 what you're up to.
00:39:51 Do you know why it took pastor until his mid thirties
00:39:57 to open this church?
00:39:59 It's because God was developing him like all pictures
00:40:03 in the dark.
00:40:04 And we don't like darkness, but ask the seed.
00:40:12 It's not a grave, it's planting.
00:40:15 You got to have a season
00:40:18 and you're going to have to deal with this.
00:40:19 You're going to have a season where you ain't,
00:40:21 you not going to know what God is doing.
00:40:27 Am I supposed to move or am I supposed to stay?
00:40:29 Do I buy a house or do I stay in this apartment?
00:40:34 Do I stay on this job or do I give him the deuces
00:40:39 and go get another one?
00:40:41 I don't like my boss, but God says,
00:40:43 see if you could just strike the ground,
00:40:45 you could be the boss.
00:40:46 If you just,
00:40:47 how committed are you to getting not what you want?
00:40:57 - What?
00:40:58 - But what God has for you.
00:40:59 - Amen.
00:41:00 - Everybody in this room got a dream.
00:41:05 Everybody in this room, at one time or another,
00:41:09 they started reading a book, they didn't finish.
00:41:11 Everybody in this room, at one point in time,
00:41:16 called on God and prayed,
00:41:17 but the difference between the ones who will get it
00:41:20 and the ones who won't are the ones who will.

00:41:26 Now you're developing calluses.
00:41:34 I don't play as good as your pastor,
00:41:38 but I do play the lead guitar.
00:41:39 And I'm telling you right now,
00:41:41 the only way you can play it effectively
00:41:43 is when you lose the feeling in your fingers.
00:41:46 I almost quit when I started because I could feel it.
00:41:53 (audience chattering)
00:41:55 But I kept playing through the hurt.
00:41:57 I kept playing, I kept practicing,
00:42:01 and sooner or later I found out
00:42:03 that I couldn't feel what I used to feel.
00:42:09 And now I can do what I used to could not do.
00:42:14 Because when you live your life and your feelings,
00:42:18 you are doomed to stay where you are.

00:42:23 You gotta do it anyway.
00:42:28 I stand on this stage, the son of a pastor.
00:42:35 And my mother and father had me and my sister
00:42:42 while my father was still married to his wife.
00:42:44 I was in the church sitting on the front row
00:42:49 as a minister at the age of 14,
00:42:51 watching my father claim all of his other children
00:42:56 and looking over me as if I wasn't in the room.
00:42:58 When I was 12 years old,
00:43:02 I finally got the courage to go up to him and say,
00:43:04 "Are you my father?"
00:43:06 And he told me, "Yes."
00:43:07 I said, "When were you gonna tell me?"
00:43:08 He said, "Eventually."
00:43:10 I said, "It hurts me every Sunday to sit in church
00:43:14 "and listen to you tell fathers
00:43:16 "what they should do with their sons.
00:43:18 "And you've never paid child support for us."
00:43:20 I'm 12 talking to him like this.
00:43:22 You never came to a basketball game.
00:43:24 My mama and I catching a bus and you driving Cadillacs.
00:43:26 And that man looked me in my face and said,
00:43:28 "If it hurts you too bad,
00:43:29 "you might need to go to another church."
00:43:31 And I came back the next Sunday.
00:43:38 And sat on the same row.
00:43:46 Because watch this, even though he wasn't a good father,
00:43:49 he was an amazing pastor.
00:43:51 See, sometimes you have to be taught
00:43:54 by people who ain't teaching
00:43:55 so you can learn the lesson of what God wants you to do.
00:44:01 And most of us miss our miracle
00:44:03 because we can't be taught by people who hurt us.
00:44:14 And so I kept coming back.
00:44:16 So away with this depression.
00:44:19 Y'all just, this generation's killing me.
00:44:22 You just, you're too hurt to do anything.
00:44:24 You just, you just can't make it.
00:44:28 Come on, talk to me, somebody.
00:44:29 Just, it's hard out here.
00:44:31 You gotta strike.
00:44:34 You gotta fight.
00:44:38 Pastor and I was just talking about this.
00:44:40 My wife and I, we live on the 28th floor
00:44:42 of the place we stay.
00:44:44 So I can see on top of all of the buildings in our area.
00:44:48 I can see on top of them.
00:44:51 And everybody in here, at some point in time,
00:44:54 wants to get to the top.
00:44:56 But let me tell you,
00:44:57 I look at the top of buildings all day.
00:44:59 Ain't nothing up there but air conditioning units,
00:45:01 wires, and dirt.
00:45:04 You gonna mess around and get to the top
00:45:06 and find out ain't nothing up there.
00:45:08 The blessing of life is the journey
00:45:11 coming from the bottom to the top.
00:45:13 Can I get anybody to praise God
00:45:15 because you ain't there yet?
00:45:17 Anybody wanna give him glory
00:45:19 'cause you have not yet arrived.
00:45:20 But there's something beautiful
00:45:22 about going from the bottom to the top.
00:45:24 Touch your neighbor and say,
00:45:25 I'm going from the bottom to the top.
00:45:27 Now, if your neighbor didn't talk to you,
00:45:29 then that's somebody you don't need to talk to
00:45:31 when you get where you're going.
00:45:32 The person who didn't just talk to you,
00:45:34 the next time you get where you're going,
00:45:35 look at him and say, back then you didn't want me.
00:45:38 Now I'm hot, you all low me.
00:45:40 If you ain't gonna holler at me with a bus pass,
00:45:42 don't holler at me when I get a Bentley.
00:45:44 If you ain't gonna holler at me in this studio,
00:45:46 don't holler at me when I'm in a mansion.
00:45:48 So whatever I got and the Lord has blessed me,
00:45:57 I earned it.
00:45:59 I struck the ground for it.
00:46:02 I didn't quit when I felt like giving up.
00:46:07 When I got a divorce and I was embarrassed,
00:46:10 I still came to the podium and said what thus said the Lord
00:46:14 and didn't allow my personal business
00:46:16 to bleed into my sermon
00:46:17 'cause nobody came to see me bleed on them.
00:46:19 They came to get a word for their life.
00:46:21 Can you lead while you bleed?
00:46:27 Oh, I'm helping somebody.
00:46:34 This ain't even the same sermon I preached this morning,
00:46:36 but I know the Lord is pulling this out of me
00:46:38 because there are some great people in this room
00:46:40 who have great potential
00:46:41 and God is gonna do great things with you,
00:46:43 but you can't live out of your feelings
00:46:45 and you can't live out of your heart
00:46:46 and you can't live out of your past.
00:46:48 You're gonna have to strike the ground
00:46:50 and recognize that God has something bigger
00:46:52 than your demons and your devils and your despair.
00:46:55 You ain't been through nothing
00:46:59 that other great people haven't been through.
00:47:01 Stop letting those tragedies make excuses for you.
00:47:04 Stop allowing your tears to get you stuck.
00:47:06 You gotta cry and do it anyway.
00:47:08 You gotta be scared and do it anyway.
00:47:10 You gotta be broke and fight.
00:47:11 You gotta be insecure, not liking the color of your skin,
00:47:15 the size of your nose, and do it anyway.
00:47:17 Touch your neighbor and say, "You might not like it,
00:47:19 "but God got somebody who like it just like this."
00:47:21 You might not like it,
00:47:22 but God got somebody who like it just like this.
00:47:24 You might not like my skin color,
00:47:26 but God got somebody who like my skin color.
00:47:28 You might not like my size,
00:47:30 but God got somebody who like my size.
00:47:32 You ain't gotta go on no diet to get no husband.
00:47:34 That's somebody who like it just like you got it, baby.
00:47:36 You just gotta have the courage to be yourself.
