00:06 [Voix-off] One of the things Paddington liked most about living with the Brown family was their garden. It had a lawn, a small fish pond and several flower beds, not to mention a vegetable patch. In fact, it was almost too big and Mr. Brown had a hard job keeping it all neat and tidy. One day, Mrs. Brown had an idea. "We'll have a competition," she said. "Jonathan, Judy and Paddington can each have a patch and you can award a prize to the best one."
00:34 "Hmm," said Mr. Brown, "have you ever seen Paddington's efforts at gardening?" But Paddington thought it was a very good idea. He bought himself several packets of seeds in the market and after borrowing a book on the subject from Mr. Gruber, he sat up in bed late that night making his plans. Some of the smaller seeds were difficult to handle, especially with paws, and a lot of them got lost in his fur when he tried to count them, which made him feel itchy.

01:07 So he tried reading the book instead. Mr. Gruber's book was called "Gardening the Easy Way" by Adrian Crisp. And if the pictures were anything to go by, the book certainly lived up to its title, for Mr. Crisp seemed to spend most of his time sitting in a deck chair, taking a long view of things before he actually set to work.
01:29 It was all very interesting and Paddington soon fell asleep. Early next morning, armed with a large jar of marmalade and a pair of opera glasses, Paddington set off towards a nearby building site so that he could take a long view of the Brown's garden.

03:20 "Marmalade chunks?" repeated the foreman, as Paddington explained matters. "Do you mean to say we've been looking for marmalade chunks? I thought you said they were valuable."
03:29 "If you're a bear," said Paddington, "and haven't got much, marmalade chunks are very valuable."
03:34 "Well, so's concrete when you're a builder. And look what's happened to ours. All wasted. I wouldn't give you tuppence for it now."
03:41 "I would," said Paddington excitedly as an idea came into his mind. "I've got tuppence left over from my seed money, and I'll see your concrete isn't wasted."
03:51 "What a good idea, making a rock garden," said Mr Brown, as he gave Paddington a jar of his special marmalade for having the best patch.
04:00 "However, did you get the idea?" asked Judy.
04:04 "Well," said Paddington truthfully, "it came to me out of the sky. It isn't so much a rock garden, it's more of a chunks garden."
04:15 And with that, he added his special paw mark, just to show it was genuine.
