00:00winning team. Is there too much hype with this team, Gator? I don't think there's too much hype with this team. Is it appropriate hype?
00:06I think it's appropriate level hype. Yes, I do.
00:09There are some teams that are forced down your throat, and I think, you know, the Chiefs have been that team, and
00:15for good reason. They won Super Bowls. You know, the Patrick Mahomes is forced down our throat. I get it.
00:21He's the best player in the league. There's no question about it.
00:23But you know what? Lions are getting their hype right now, and they deserve it.
00:27And we should feel really comfortable with that. We should be chesty about this team.
00:33Are you chesty about this? Do you feel comfortable in your own skin when talking about the Lions?
00:37Because this is like, this is foreign territory for us as Lions fans.
00:41We have felt this way about the Red Wings in the past.
00:44We felt this way about the Pistons in the past. A little bit with the Tigers.
00:49A little bit. But never with the Lions. Not since the 50s.
00:54It's been, obviously, it's been that long. They exercised a lot of demons last season.
01:00Division win, playoff berth, multiple playoff wins
01:05for the first time since the 50s.
01:07Getting back to the NFC Championship game, it was a heartbreaker of a game, but it's not gonna, it doesn't stall my
01:15momentum and my enthusiasm for this team. I'm very comfortable with how confident I am about this team.
01:21To be honest with you, although that was just gut-wrenching, the way they lost to the Niners, and it was heartbreaking,
01:27it gives me more confidence. Because they manhandled the Niners in that first half.
01:31That game was theirs to be won, and you give credit where it's due. The Niners took the opportunities given to them in the second half to come back and win that game.
01:38But, you know, I think the Lions blew it more than anything.
01:42And my point is, they showed they can play with the best in the league on the road.
01:46I mean, roster from top to bottom, everyone had the Niners better than the Lions.
01:50For good reason. The Lions went in there, and George Kittle was joking about it, but, you know, he comes on after the game and says,
01:57I'm not gonna lie, they had us in the first half, you know, because they did.
02:00They did. They had a 17-point lead in the second half, and unfortunately, you know, a weird confluence of plays happened.
02:07Yeah, I got it. But even though that happened, it doesn't dissuade me from how chesty I am about the Lions.
02:14248-539-9797. Dean is on a cell phone. You're next up here, 97, on the ticket. Hey, Dean.
02:20Hey, guys. Afternoon.
02:22Afternoon.
02:23Yeah, I'm super excited about the Lions. I've been a diehard Lions fan my whole life, through the good, the bad, the ugly.
02:32Now it's starting to get good. We had season tickets last year. We have season tickets again.
02:38Yeah, it's just exciting. I got an eight-year-old boy, so he's really watching me, you know, every Sunday at football,
02:46and I'm smoking something on the smoker, and he's glued into it now, so it's exciting.
02:51Well, I'm glad to hear you're smoking something on the smoker. I thought it was gonna be something else you were gonna say there in front of an eight-year-old,
02:56which would be inappropriate, sir. That would be inappropriate, but that's not what you're talking about.
03:00You're talking about smoking some meat and enjoying Lions football.
03:04Exactly.
03:06Excellent. Thank you, Dean. I appreciate it.
03:08We should all feel good about this team moving forward, that there's not too much hype about it.
03:13You know what? More. How about more?
03:15I think it's an appropriate level right now, Kang, but if they were, when we get closer and closer to training camp,
03:21you know there's gonna be more and more stories focused on the National Football League,
03:25and they're gonna start talking about the Lions again.
03:27Because everybody's gonna get their articles ready about, hey, here are the teams that are gonna be contending for the NFC.
03:33And they have to include the Lions. You cannot exclude the Lions.
03:37You can't do it. Not gonna happen.
03:40You can talk, and there's other competition.
03:43Packers, and listen, Packers are a team to be reckoned with.
03:47I think that's a good football team. I think Philadelphia's a good football team.
03:50I think the Cowboys are. We'll see.
03:53San Francisco is, I think, a better football team than the Lions right now.
03:57But how much better? Eh.
04:00Home field mattered for them last year.
04:03Or just a lucky bounce off someone's face mask.
04:06I'm saying home field.
04:07And a great play by Ayuk.
04:09But the thing is, with all the hype surrounding the Lions, all the great articles of how they have, you know,
04:13top five at Offensive Line, top five Running Back Duo, whatever.
04:17Just, hey, they should win the division. They're gonna be a team to watch for the NFC Championship game.
04:22I haven't seen anyone really debunk it.
04:25Because this isn't a hot take anymore. This is real.
04:28No, it's not.
04:28Like the old days, someone would come out, and you knew it, Gator.
04:33I'll be the guy. This is the year the Lions make the playoffs, win the NFC, or whatever.
04:37And we're like, no, it's not actually. Why you gotta try it?
04:40Because they're trying to call their shot.
04:42But this year, this is legit.
04:44On paper, what we think is going to happen is the Lions are going to be a good team.
04:49Without question. Yeah.
04:51I mean, they're deserving to be on these lists.
04:53And you look at what were the flaws with the Lions last year?
04:57Because they had flaws. Every team does.
04:59And you look specifically at the defensive side of the ball.
05:02Okay, they need to improve the defense. Where? Specifically, the secondary.
05:06The rotation of corners by the end of the season was terrible.
05:10What'd they do?
05:12They improved it dramatically.
05:14Here comes Carlton Davis into trade.
05:16They're gonna go out, and we're gonna, you know, sign players in free agency.
05:20Here comes Robertson, Amik Robertson from the Raiders.
05:26What about the draft? What'd he do in the draft?
05:28Oh my God, look who's available still on the board at 22.
05:33Let's go up and get him.
05:35They go out and they get him. Here comes Terry and Arnold.
05:37Some had him as the top, some had him as the second best corner in the draft.
05:41And the Lions were able to go up and get him.
05:43Well now, oh my God, what'd they do in the second round?
05:46Here comes Enes Reykstra, another one of those top corners available.
05:50And they decide to double down on the position.
05:53I'm excited about it.
05:55I'm very excited about it.
05:56And they could still make some moves.
05:58They still have money to spend.
06:00We're gonna get to training camp.
06:02And a few weeks into training camp, there's gonna be cuts.
06:06And whether the Lions decide to go after some more players or not,
06:09you know, maybe even before training camp,
06:11maybe there's another signing they have
06:12because there's still these safeties that are out there.
06:14If you want to go get a safety, you can still get a really good safety.
06:17Can't believe these guys are still out there.
06:19But they're there.
06:20You want to improve it there, you can.
06:22But that's the area they had to improve.
06:24And did they? Yes.
06:27I don't think there's any question.
06:29You cannot argue with me
06:31that the secondary is worse than they were last year.
06:33You can't.
06:34It's a vast improvement.
06:36Even if I'm relying
06:39on a true rookie to come in there and start,
06:42it's still better than what they did last year.
06:46And it's not just the rookie.
06:48It's the veteran players they brought in as well.
06:50I really like this team.
06:51And then you can say, what about the defensive line?
06:53Okay, here's DJ Reader.
06:55Is he going to be healthy enough?
06:57That's the question with him.
06:59He'll be healthy at some point
07:01and he'll make a difference
07:02because he's a difference maker
07:03right in the middle of that defensive line.
07:06Maybe don't expect him at the start of training camp.
07:08By the end of training camp, I expect him.
07:10I expect him for the season
07:12and hopefully he makes a difference.
07:13And the other guys, you're hoping they stay healthy
07:15and James Houston, Marcus Davenport,
07:17they can make it.
07:18It's just a better team.
07:21You can't tell me it's worse
07:21than what they were last year.
07:23And what they were last year
07:25was runner up in the NFC.
07:27Be comfortable with it.
07:29Yeah, but you still got to play the games though.
07:31Absolutely, but I'm going to be comfortable right now.
07:33They haven't played any games yet.
07:36We can be as comfortable as we want,
07:38but I do feel comfortable with it.
07:40I'm not saying it and ducking and running.
07:42If I say this team's a 13-win team,
07:44I don't have to hide underneath the desk.
07:46No, that's real.
07:47That's realistic.
07:48They won 12 last year.
07:50Got some feedback.
07:51Ticket text coming in.
07:52248-539-9797.
07:55The Lions will regress
07:56and go 9-8 or worse.
07:58I shoot the boot,
07:59guarantee it, Jacob Inouye.
08:01Well, get that boot ready, my friend.
08:05Get it ready.
08:07Gator, I'm so chesty on the Lions,
08:09I may need a bra soon.
08:11That's from Luke in Lake Orient.
08:12He's calling for a bra, not a bro.
08:14Not a man's ear.
08:16A bra.
08:18I've got a Jared Goff voodoo doll
08:20and care for that thing like a baby bird.
08:23The Lions are one rolled ankle
08:25away from disaster John in Lake Orient.
08:28So is every other team.
08:30Right?
08:32Not many teams in the National Football League
08:33have a good backup quarterback situation.
08:36They just don't.
08:37So I understand the sentiment.
08:40There's no question that there's a doubt.
08:42Yeah, sure.
08:43But guess what the Lions do have?
08:44One of the best offensive lines in the league.
08:46That they do.
08:47They have a great running back tandem.
08:50And I think a much improved defense.
08:52I feel much more comfortable
08:54that they could stay afloat.
08:57If that scenario takes place
08:59than I did a year ago.
09:02You have the two things that make
09:03for perennial contenders.
09:05Good drafting and good coaches
09:07slash coordinators for development.
09:09It's what elevates the regular season
09:11division winners from the Flash
09:13and the Pans.
09:14That's from Russ in Livonia.
09:16Yeah, I think they have excellent drafting
09:18and I think they have good coaches
09:20slash coordinators.
09:21I think another reason Lions fans
09:23were always apprehensive
09:25and maybe even apprehensive
09:27after the season this one
09:29was because they thought for sure
09:30they were going to lose Ben Johnson.
09:33Ben Johnson stayed.
09:35Is this going to be his last year with the Lions?
09:37I don't know.
09:38I'm not as worried about that as others are.
09:40Is it a concern?
09:41Sure, it's a concern.
09:42But keep in mind that when Ben Johnson
09:44was elevated to become the offensive coordinator
09:47Dan Campbell was calling plays
09:49after they let go Anthony Lynn
09:52and the offense started turning things around.
09:54Dan Campbell's not a dummy.
09:56Dan Campbell knows the offense.
09:58Now, I'm not taking credit away from Ben Johnson.
10:02I think Ben Johnson's very good at what he does.
10:04I'm just saying that if Ben Johnson were to leave
10:07the pillars are in place.
10:10You've got a veteran quarterback
10:11who knows the offense.
10:12You've got other coaches there
10:13that know the offense
10:14and most importantly,
10:15you've got a head coach
10:16that showed him the way to begin with.
10:18I'm okay with it.
10:19248-539-9797 is the telephone number.
10:23Same number to text if you'd like.
