00:00Good afternoon and welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:04It's turning much drier through the course of this afternoon with the rain becoming much more showery,
00:08although it will stay generally quite cloudy for many areas with the best of the sunshine in northern Scotland and Northern Ireland,
00:14and the winds will ease in the south.
00:17It's this area of low pressure that brought the wet and windy conditions across many areas this morning,
00:21and it stays unsettled through the rest of this week.
00:23The ice bars stay quite tightly packed together, so some strong winds at times,
00:27but it will become exceptionally mild, particularly as we head towards the new year.
00:32Back to this afternoon though, and there's some showery outbreaks of rain still around in many parts of England and Wales and southern Scotland,
00:38but it is becoming generally dry for most places, and some brightness will develop, particularly across south-west England,
00:44and I think the best of the sunshine will be across northern Ireland and northern Scotland this afternoon,
00:48although a few fog patches may well not clear across some of the Highland Glens.
00:53A fairly mild afternoon for most places, with temperatures reaching the double figures in many parts of England and Wales,
00:58but a bit chillier further north.
01:01Through Tuesday evening it becomes dry, with some clear spells for many areas for a time,
01:05but further wet and windy weather will then spread up from the south-west as we go through the night,
01:10with some heavy bursts of rain and some strong to gale force winds, particularly in the south-west by dawn.
01:15Further north, underneath those clear skies though, temperatures falling close to freezing,
01:19and well below freezing in some of those Highland Glens, with a low of minus 6 to minus 8 perhaps across northern Scotland.
01:26Through Wednesday morning it turns increasingly wet for more northern parts as well,
01:30with heavy bursts of rain spreading their way north-eastwards.
01:33Very windy conditions as well developing across many areas, with the risk of gales around some western and southern coasts,
01:39but increasingly very mild conditions developing as well, with highs of 13 to 15 degrees in any afternoon brightness across England and Wales,
01:46though still quite chilly across northern Scotland with that rain persisting.
01:50It becomes exceptionally mild for many places as we go towards the new year,
01:54but there will be some further rain at times, particularly in the north and west, and it will also be often quite windy.
