00:00What's up guys, today we're going to be comparing the A55 to the Galaxy S22+.
00:06It's a very good comparison and the reason is because it's a very good alternative to
00:11the A55 because it is around that price range but it's actually a little bit cheaper.
00:17If you get it in the used refurbished marketplace like this one here, it'll cost you around
00:22$339 and that's an extremely good deal and you guys are going to see why.
00:28So let's go ahead and jump into the comparison.
00:30So first off, again, the price, you can find that $339, the A55 is $400 but it's brand
00:35new.
00:36And yeah, so I want to talk about the design.
00:39So Samsung has decided to go with a full glass and metal design and it looks really good.
00:45It looks really nice.
00:46It makes it look like pretty much like an S24+, especially from the back but once we
00:51get to the front then you'll kind of see that, you know, it's a mid-ranger but from the back
00:55it looks really good in comparison to the S22+.
00:58S22+, looks really good as well.
01:01It does have a matte finish instead of the glossy back so on the matte finish you don't
01:05really get fingerprints and stuff like that which is something that I really like.
01:08You can see there's a cutout on the S22+, and there's no cutout so it has kind of that,
01:13you know, kind of like that newer design.
01:15Now the S22+, is just way, way more comfortable to hold.
01:20It comes with a very, very, just aggressive, very sharp edges on this phone this year.
01:26So it's just, it doesn't feel as comfortable to hold as the smoother edges on the S22+.
01:33So that's a little bit unfortunate but the good thing is most people put a case on their
01:37phones so it won't really matter.
01:40But that's pretty much it for the hardware differences.
01:43Now the A55, it does have SD card support which the S22+, lacks so that is definitely
01:49an essential thing but you also have IP68 dust and water resistant on the S22+, as well
01:55as wireless charging which is something that the A55 lacks.
02:01The A55, it does have IP67 dust and water resistant but that's pretty much it for the
02:07hardware.
02:08Now the first thing that you'll notice with the displays is that the S22+, has a much
02:13more vibrant display.
02:15This is one thing that I've been noticing with the A55's display, it's very dull in
02:19comparison and even looking at it through the cameras, I don't even think it's doing
02:23it that much justice.
02:27Next I want to talk about the displays.
02:29So the first thing that will stand out to you is that the S22+, has a way more vibrant
02:35and colorful display.
02:36It almost makes the A55 look dull in comparison.
02:39So that's one thing that I noticed right off the rip.
02:42Now the S22+, has a 6.6 inch display, it's 1080p, 393 for the PPI, it's the Dynamic AMOLED,
02:49120Hz HDR10+, 1750 nits peak brightness and the A55, it does also have a 6.6 inch display,
02:59it's 1080p, it's the Super AMOLED display at 390 for the PPI and HDR10+, 1000 nits peak
03:07brightness.
03:08You have the overall better display on the S22+, it has a higher max brightness and then
03:13also the colors just look better as well too and then you also have slimmer bezels of course
03:19since it is a flagship device.
03:21And you can see, you can kind of really see that at the bottom there, it's really chunky
03:26bezels on the A55.
03:28And again this is all aesthetic stuff, it's not like super super important stuff but yes,
03:32the S22+, definitely has the better display by a mile I think.
03:36Let's talk about the specs here a little bit more.
03:39The S22+, it does have Android 14 and we have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor on here along
03:47with 128 gigs of internal storage, 8 gigs of RAM.
03:50The A55 has Samsung's Exynos, it's the 1480 chipset on here and like I said it has micro
03:57SD card support and then you also have 128 gigs of internal storage and 8 gigs of RAM.
04:03You can see of course the S22+, is going to outperform the A55 so you're just going
04:11to get better performance in general for a longer time but what I've found really impressive
04:17about the A55 is that it's actually pretty smooth, it's not like the A54 when that phone
04:23first came out and it was just really slow, not slow but it was just really glitchy.
04:29That could have been like a software thing, I'm sure they fixed it but it was really glitchy.
04:33Stuff like that, like little animation lags and stuff like that, that's what you'll see in like
04:38a mid-range phone especially if you have a lot of applications open.
04:42The S22+, is relatively smooth almost all the time thanks to that extra power that you get.
04:49Now when it comes to launching applications and the overall speed of the phone,
04:52I think Samsung has done a really good job here with One UI 6 so it's just really fast.
04:59You can see that the S22+, it's faster but it's not really that much faster than the A55
05:04when it comes to general application.
05:06But like I said that just tiny stuff like animations and stuff like that,
05:10it's just definitely going to be a little bit smoother on the S22+, for sure here.
05:24So you can see it's just, you know, they're both pretty fast.
05:27I think it's pretty impressive for these mid-range phones.
05:30Now when you talk about One UI, so there is an essential difference here
05:35and there's going to be a big, big difference next month.
05:39So the S22+, it has Samsung desktop support because again it's an old flagship.
05:45It has Samsung desktop support but it's going to be getting the Galaxy AI features as well too
05:51which is expected to be next month.
05:54So really excited about that.
05:55That's something that the A55 will not get again because it's a mid-range phone.
06:00So Samsung is going to be expanding those to the older flagships
06:03which I think is a huge deal.
06:04I think it's a really, really big deal for these older Samsung flagships.
06:09Now when we get to gaming performance, let's go ahead and launch PUBG.
06:13Now if you are someone who is a competitive gamer,
06:16you're definitely going to go with the S22+.
06:20It's just going to give you way better settings.
06:21You can see we got 90 frames on PUBG here.
06:24You got just a better display, faster processor.
06:27This is going to be a no-brainer for anybody who's in the competitive gaming here for sure.
06:34Now the A55 does do a pretty good job with gaming but it's going to be nowhere near as good.
06:39You have extreme.
06:41The best settings are HDR Ultra but that's pretty much it.
06:45It's just not going to do as good at giving you the fastest frame rates.
06:50This will translate to other games like Call of Duty, Fortnite, or whatever else you play.
06:54You'll just have way better settings on the S22+.
06:58So definitely if you're a gamer, you're easily going with the S22+.
07:05All right, so we got the speakers at max volume.
07:07We'll start with the A55.
07:20So
07:32so
07:44the A55 definitely has a lot more bass coming out
07:48but the S22 definitely has a cleaner sound overall.
07:52So I would still go with the S22 as far as speaker quality.
07:55It just sounds cleaner and more balanced.
07:58But this does sound pretty good for a mid-ranger and it's pretty bassy as well too.
08:03It doesn't sound as clean.
08:05Now I do want to go to the fingerprint scanner.
08:07This is actually a big difference here.
08:09The A55 has a fingerprint scanner that is optical one but that's not an issue.
08:14My issue is that it just doesn't work as well as other optical fingerprint scanners.
08:18I think it's a little bit slower to me.
08:20Now I redid my fingerprint and everything and I don't know,
08:24it feels like I have to add more pressure than I'm used to with other phones.
08:30Now with the S22+, it's the ultrasonic one.
08:32So it's just very light tap, much, much faster as well too.
08:36They both do face unlock as well too which is really nice.
08:40All right, so I do want to talk about the image quality here.
08:43So the S22 has a 50 megapixel standard on here and you also have a 10 megapixel telephoto.
08:51It has three times optical with a 12 megapixel ultrawide.
08:54It shoots in 8K24 and then a 10 megapixel selfie that shoots in 4K60.
08:59The A55, it does have a 50 megapixel standard, 12 megapixel ultrawide, 5 megapixel macro.
09:05It has no telephoto and it only shoots in 4K30 on the front and back with a 32 megapixel selfie.
09:12So overall, you do have much better camera specs and camera settings as far as 4K60 video
09:18on the S22+, and being able to shoot in 8K and having that dedicated telephoto lens.
09:25So you definitely do have the better camera setup,
09:28but check out the side-by-side stills.
09:30Check out the video.
09:30Let me know what you guys thought.
09:48So
10:49now as far as the whole battery situation here,
10:52now the S22 plus does have the slightly smaller battery at 4500 milliamps,
10:58but remember you are getting wireless charging and reverse wireless charging,
11:02and the battery life is very good on the S22+, and you also get faster charging at 45 watts.
11:08The A55, it does have a 5000 milliamp hour battery with 25 watt charging.
11:13The battery life is very good on the A55 for sure,
11:16but I think the whole battery situation is just going to be better on the S22+.
11:21It charges faster and there's wireless charging,
11:23and the battery life is actually still pretty good on the S22+, as well.
11:28So yeah, so I'm leaning towards the S22+.
11:32I think it's the better phone here, you know, obviously,
11:35but there are some benefits of the A55.
11:37So it really comes down to personal preference if you really want the SD card support,
11:41or if you really want just a new phone.
11:44I know in certain countries the prices are definitely different,
11:49but yeah, so you just have to kind of make that decision.
11:52It's overall just a better phone, the S22+, especially if you live in the USA.
11:57Yeah, so what do you guys think?
11:59Be sure to let me know, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
