00:16heading the ceremony for the creation of the National Electoral Commission, which will
00:21elect the justices of the peace.
00:26The US government vetoed on Wednesday a United Nations Security Council resolution demanding
00:31a ceasefire in Palestine and the release of hostages.
00:39And with two days to go before the end of COP29 in Azerbaijan, rich countries have not
00:44yet proposed any figures to achieve the goal of tackling climate change.
00:55Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra García from Telesur Studios in
00:59Caracas, Venezuela.
01:00We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:16Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro called to defend peace and popular sovereignty after
01:20heading the ceremony for the creation of the National Electoral Commission, which will
01:25elect the justices of the peace.
01:27The Venezuelan leader assured that the best way to safeguard the social, political and
01:31economic stability of the country is to advance in the structural goals together with the
01:36people.
01:37Likewise, Maduro emphasized that it is necessary to build a new state of new social foundations
01:42in order to create what he called a society of equals.
01:46The President also affirmed that the election of the judges of the peace in over 5,000 communal
01:51circuits next December 15th will be the main tool to exercise popular sovereignty.
02:01We have the task to build a new state, a new basis and a new society of equality and freedom
02:13in a sovereign nation.
02:14The time of God is perfect.
02:16The time of God has arrived for the justice of peace and Venezuela is at the forefront
02:22setting an example for the peoples of the world.
02:27In Venezuela, Vice President Delsi Rodríguez denounced that representatives of the far
02:31right seek to attack the country's economy during her participation in the Venezuela
02:362024 Oil Chamber Forum.
02:39During her speech, the Vice President questioned the actions of the extreme right that support
02:44sanctions and blockade against Venezuela since they cause damage to the country's economy
02:50and therefore to the Venezuelan people.
02:52It is worth mentioning that the forum deals with the hydrocarbon industry's perspective
02:57in Venezuela and how to advance towards operational excellence in terms of safety, environmental
03:03impact and maintenance.
03:05Furthermore, Rodríguez described a bill passed by the US Parliament that offends the name
03:11of the liberator Simón Bolívar and violates national sovereignty as an attack against
03:16Venezuela.
03:23A bill that strongly bears the name of our liberator father, Simón Bolívar, is simply
03:30inadmissible.
03:31It is abhorrent.
03:32Ms. Machado came out today to applaud that bill and to thank Reed Scott, to thank him,
03:39because well, they listened to her.
03:42Her wishes were listened to.
03:45Who would think of asking to harm a people, a population, as a wish?
03:51Who would think of that?
03:52It is the same thing I said in my press appearance on Monday about Mr. Eric Prince, you know,
03:59a notorious mercenary who has in his record, in his resume, murder and torture.
04:06It is shameful that someone is known to be a murderer, isn't it?
04:11That is very embarrassing, being known for being a mercenary, but Ms. Machado applauds
04:17him too and thanks him for attacking Muscar.
04:23Venezuela's Vice President, Delsi Rodríguez, stressed that the Venezuelan people are ready
04:28to carry out a work plan to promote the development of the hydrocarbon sector in the country.
04:35We are ready, and the sectoral vice presidents of PDVSA, with its president at the head,
04:41are also ready to sit down with you and work on a roadmap.
04:46We want a work plan that emerges from there, to register the companies, certify the companies
04:53so that they can add to the development of the hydrocarbon sector in Venezuela.
04:58And that we say before the world, Venezuela first, Venezuelan productive sector first.
05:05And then, with much love, we will undoubtedly welcome our brothers from the world so that
05:11they can also join forces side by side with our workers, with our professionals, side
05:17by side, to give the great impulse towards a powerful Venezuela.
05:23That is our strategic objective, to dream about the future, about a very near future.
05:29It is the Venezuelan power, it is what our people deserve for the history, for its resistance,
05:36for its courage and for its dignity.
05:39And you deserve it too, and that is what we are inviting you to do so.
05:45On Wednesday, Al Batisipi issued a statement rejecting the passing of the Bolívar Bill
05:50by the US House of Representatives.
05:52The member states of Al Batisipi categorically repudiated the passing of a bill which seeks
05:58to intensify the criminal and illegal economic blockade against the Bolivarian Republic of
06:03Venezuela and which has had the abuse of calling in the Bolívar Act.
06:08According to the mechanism, the bill targets the most vulnerable Venezuelan population
06:13and also seeks to hinder the economic recovery of the country and to impede Venezuela's
06:18economic relations and cooperation, in addition to over 930 unilateral and extraterritorial
06:24coercive measures already imposed against the Venezuelan people.
06:28In this context, the Bolivarian Alliance demands respect for the Charter of the United Nations
06:34and the norms of international law, as well as for the will of free, independent and sovereign
06:39peoples, and calls on all sister nations to condemn the Act.
06:51Earlier, the Attorney General of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, announced on Monday the
06:56formal set-up of a Committee for Justice for the Victims of Fascism, July 2024.
07:02The initiative of the Venezuelan government aims at continuing the investigations to clarify
07:07all the acts of violence unleashed by extremist sectors after the July 28th elections.
07:13The Venezuelan official denounced the campaigns that led the world imply that the arrested
07:18people were all supposedly innocent, while the deceased and the wounded, as a consequence
07:23of the violence of the extreme right, were intentionally made invisible.
07:27Saab stated that the objective of this Committee is to explain clearly and unequivocally to
07:33the Venezuelan people a fact that has been distorted by the media.
07:45We are in this important meeting to formally create the Committee for the Justice of Victims
07:49July 2024, an important effort that, as you can see, has the participation of personalities
08:03linked to the human rights issue, that will provide a highly organic, spiritual, legal
08:16and technical support to the relatives of the victims of that fascist violence that
08:23shook the country, because they didn't want to recognize the electoral results.
08:36In Uruguay, presidential candidates are on the brink of entering onto the election silence
08:41period. Earlier, Yamandú Orsi, representing the Broad Front, will lead a mass rally in
08:46Las Piedras, Canelones department. Orsi, alongside his Vice President running mate Carolina Cose,
08:53will partake in a caravan. People will gather at the Legislative Palace to start the march,
08:59then they will go through the capital city on their way to Las Piedras. Participants
09:04will begin the mass ceremony around 7pm local time. On Friday, November 22nd, sets off the
09:10election silence, which bans both proselytism and political propaganda, before the runoff
09:16of November 24th.
09:24Likewise, the Uruguayan presidential candidate for the National Party, Álvaro Delgado, will
09:29close his electoral campaign on Wednesday in Montevideo. The closing ceremony of the
09:34Republican Coalition will take place at the obelisk of the capital at 7pm local time.
09:40At the brink of the election silence, the ruling party will seek to convince the still
09:45undecided voters. For the official closing of Delgado's campaign, the presence of the
09:50former presidential candidates of the coalitionist parties has been announced.
09:59And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on Tiktok
10:04at Telesur English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and more.
10:08We'll be right back, stay with us.
10:20Welcome back. The US government vetoed on Wednesday a United Nations Security Council
10:45resolution demanding a ceasefire in Palestine and the release of hostages. The Western
10:50country's representation justified the veto, reiterating the alleged lack of link between
10:55the draft and the immediate release of hostages. In addition to an immediate and unconditional
11:00ceasefire and the release of Palestinian detainees, the proposal called for a complete Israeli
11:05military withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, allowing for repopulation. The veto marks the fourth
11:11time Joe Biden's administration has blocked a United Nations Council Gaza ceasefire resolution
11:17since October 2023.
11:19Palestine commemorates World Children's Day amid Israeli violence, killing, displacement,
11:47starvation and child abuse. The United Nations Children's Fund UNICEF highlights that Palestinian
11:53children are among the most vulnerable victims of war. Indeed, they suffer from devastation,
11:59lack of access to health, education and food. Namely, 96% of Palestinians go through such
12:05aggravating conditions daily. The Ministry of Education and Higher Education reported
12:10that over 11,000 students have been killed in the Gaza Strip, while at least 19,467 have
12:18been injured due to the Zionist ongoing incursion that began in October 2023.
12:24The Israeli army launched new airstrikes on the city of Palmyra in Syria, killing at
12:42least 36 people and wounding more than 50 others. The air raid targeted several residential
12:48buildings and part of the industrial zone of the city, located some 300 kilometers northeast
12:54of the capital Damascus. The Syrian Ministry of Defense reported that the attack on Palmyra,
12:59which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980, was executed from the Al-Tanf
13:05area in the Homs governorate, which is occupied by U.S. forces. In this context, the government
13:11of Syria called for joining forces to stop this really genocidal attack on their territory.
13:16The Zionist regime has carried out more than 130 attacks in Syria so far this year, leaving
13:22at least 120 dead, hundreds wounded and also numerous material damage.
13:27In Russia, the Defense Ministry reported that the army repelled a Ukrainian drone attack
13:47involving over 40 drones in six regions of the country. Authorities said there were no
13:53human casualties or material damage in the attacks. Defense officials pointed out that
13:58the Ukrainian troops regularly attack bordering Russian provinces with drones to force the
14:03civilian population to leave their homes. Ukrainian forces in recent months have increased
14:08drone raids against oil refineries and fuel depots.
14:21Russian authorities stress the importance of reaching the goals of its military operation
14:26in Ukraine. The spokesperson of Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, detailed that President Vladimir Putin
14:33has repeatedly stated Russia is ready to negotiate possible ways of settling the conflict without
14:40neglecting Moscow's goals. In mid-June, Putin formulated several key conditions for starting
14:46peace negotiations, namely that Ukraine must withdraw its troops from the Russian territories.
14:52Moreover, Kyiv must give up from joining NATO and it must maintain neutral, non-aligned
14:58and non-nuclear status. Russia has been conducting a military operation in Ukraine since February
15:042022 to defend and safeguard the population from genocide by the Kyiv government.
15:20On Wednesday, the Government of Nicaragua issued an official statement expressing their support
15:25to the Russian Federation. The Nicaraguan government expressed their rejection to the
15:30arms sent to Ukraine by stating that the fascist that characterizes the imperialists of the
15:36Earth, uselessly pretending to continue dominating and destroying the world, manifests itself
15:43once again arming its prisoners in Ukraine with a dumb and servile applause of the colonialists
15:50of the world like themselves. They also condemned the actions of the US by expressing that the
15:56United States of America, leading slavers, invaders, interferers, traitors, impostors
16:02and a very long etc., perpetuates its stupid contempt for all the norms of international
16:08law and co-existence. In this context, Nicaragua expressed its permanent and indispensable
16:13solidarity with the Russian Federation, which fights against fascism and defends peace at
16:18all costs, which is the right of all to live in peace, security and brotherhood.

16:49Welcome back to From the South. With two days to go before the end of COP 29 in Azerbaijan,
17:15two large countries have not yet proposed any figures to achieve the goal of tackling
17:19climate change. The Colombian Minister of Environment, Susana Muhammad, declared that
17:24the progress of the negotiations is slow because a figure has not been proposed for fear that
17:29it will multiply over the years, as climate change is advancing faster and faster. In
17:35turn, the Azerbaijani coordinator of the negotiations, Yalcin Rafijev, urged on Wednesday to accelerate
17:42the process of the negotiations to face the climate problem. On the other hand, campaign
17:47director for the 350.org non-governmental organization, Nicolas Hellinger, warned that
17:53COP 29 is essential to do justice to climate change and stressed that without financing,
18:00the climate goal will not be achieved. In Georgia, police forces expelled demonstrators
18:12protesting against the result of parliamentary elections in the center of Tbilisi city. Citizens
18:18occupied Shavshades Avenue in front of the university after the end of an opposition
18:24march in rejection of the parliamentary election results. The police arrived on the scene and
18:29forced demonstrators to leave the place. The opposition march denounced the manipulation
18:34of the results published by the Central Electoral Commission, which indicated that the ruling
18:39Georgian Dream Party obtained 53.93% of the votes and won 89 of the 150 seats in the legislature.
18:48In this regard, protesters demand an international investigation, a request that was met by the
18:54prosecutor's office after it launched an investigation into the fraud accusation.
19:16In France, the National Federation of Farmer's Unions announced new demonstrations next week
19:21to reject the European Union Free Trade Agreement and to demand higher incomes. The French Agricultural
19:27Union said that nationwide protests will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday together
19:34with the Young Farmers Union to denounce the obstacles hindering their work. Both unions
19:39resumed demonstrations and road blockades to demand the fulfillment of the 70 measures
19:45promised by the government last January. According to the union, the Mercosur Agreement would
19:50result in a loss of income in the face of imports from countries with lower production costs
19:56and fewer environmental regulations.
20:05Our aim is not to divide the farming unions. Each farming union coexists. We at the Young
20:15Farmers Union are taking action today with the National Federation of Farmer's Unions.
20:19The Coordination Rurale Union took action last week. We are all legitimate to take action
20:26and there is no opposition between unions. We all have the same goal, which is to keep
20:32French agriculture strong.
20:35In Greece, workers demand wage increases and solutions to high cost of living. The General
20:41Confederation of Greek Workers called a strike to request the government to take measures
20:46and warranty a decent life to the workers. Around 12,000 people are taking part in the
20:52mobilisation, including health workers, national first aid centres, teachers and professors,
20:58judicial officials and ministry employees. The participating sectors warn that low salaries
21:03are eroding the purchasing power of workers and retirees. In an inflationary context characterised
21:10by a high cost of housing.
21:31The French meteorological authorities have declared a state of emergency in 28 departments
21:37due to early snowfalls. The measure will be in force as of Thursday, November 21st,
21:42which urges to be cautious and to follow the information issued due to snowfalls and the
21:48subsequent formation of dangerous black ice on roads, as a result of the passage of the
21:53Cascadian depression across the country. According to the forecast, the snowfalls will reach
21:59to a lesser or greater extent territories located in the northern portion of the country
22:04in a strip that covers from east to west. Due to the unusual weather forecast, even in the
22:10middle of fall and one month before the official beginning of winter, meteorologists advanced
22:16the possibility of extending the alert to other neighbouring departments.
22:28The government of Honduras continues to send humanitarian aid to the communities affected
22:33by Tropical Storm Sara. The aid includes food, mattresses and water. The information was provided
22:39by the nation's Secretariat of Risk and Contingency Management on Tuesday, which also announced
22:45that 100 teams of experts are evaluating and registering the damages caused by the storm.
22:50It began its effect on Honduras last Thursday in the region of the Caribbean Sea coast,
22:56bordering Nicaragua.
