00:43Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:48We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:06In Palestine, the Hamas resistance movement requested support from the international community
01:11to stop Israel's crimes and to provide the necessary aid to the Gaza Strip.
01:16Social media reported that the spokesperson of Hamas issued statements regarding the latest
01:21political developments and the war that has been taking place in Gaza since October 7th,
01:262023.
01:27In this sense, the Hamas representative mentioned that the conflict has been going on for 415
01:33consecutive days, being one of the cruellest wars in contemporary history, noting that
01:38the lack of action by the Arab and Islamic countries has contributed to the conflict's
01:43prolongation.
01:44The authority further stressed that Israel has committed numerous heinous crimes in the
01:49Gaza Strip, including assassination, starvation and obstructing the arrival of medical aid
01:55and supplies even in the winter.
02:02The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees warned that the risk
02:07of drought and disease threatens the lives of residents of the Gaza Strip amid Israeli
02:12aggressions.
02:13UNRWA added that the drought in Gaza is due to the lack of fuel to operate the water wells,
02:19especially in the north of the Strip, which has been subjected to an escalation in the
02:23genocide for some 50 days.
02:26The United Nations Agency denounced that some 70,000 Palestinians are struggling to obtain
02:32water, a basic human right that remains out of reach for many.
02:37The situation is made worse by the shortage of food and medical supplies due to the persistent
02:42Israeli genocide and the border blockades that prevent the entry of humanitarian aid.
02:53Israeli genocidal forces have besieged over 130,000 children younger than 10 years old
03:00for 50 days in northern Gaza, depriving them of water, food, medicine and all possible
03:05humanitarian aid.
03:07SAVE the Children, leading independent organization, denounced so and it has made repeated calls
03:13to notice the impending risk of famine in the area.
03:17The movement claimed they have been hampered to enter for seven weeks.
03:21As a result, they have been unable to deliver the food packages prepared for 5,000 families,
03:27in addition to 725 hygiene kits and other supplies.
03:31Earlier, SAVE the Children could allocate aid with the support of local partners, but
03:36now all alternatives have been closed.
03:44The Israeli government preliminary accepted a possible ceasefire agreement in Lebanon.
03:49The official Israeli Broadcasting Authority made the announcement after specifying that
03:54although Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to evaluate the proposal of a ceasefire
04:00put forward by the United States, the decision is not final.
04:04This comes in the context of a visit of the US envoy Amos Hochstein, who gave a deadline
04:10to reach an agreement.
04:12The US representative notified Israel that if it does not reach an agreement in the next
04:17few days, it will abandon the negotiations.
04:31Kyrgyz province Governor Alexei Smirnov reported that Russian air forces repelled a new large-scale
04:39Ukrainian drone attack.
04:41The official further detailed that the authorities successfully neutralized seven missiles and
04:46seven UAVs.
04:48Kyiv wastes millions of dollars from US and European citizens' taxes on attacks of this
04:54nature.
04:55All of them are aimed directly or indirectly against the civilian population, impacting
05:00vital services such as water, electricity or fuel supply.
05:04The vast majority of these attacks, labeled by the Russian government as terrorist attacks,
05:09are thwarted by the Russian defense forces.
05:17The Russian government reaffirmed its goodwill to negotiate for the peace process with Ukraine.
05:22The Russian spokesperson Dmitry Peskov asserted that his government has always been open to
05:27peace talks.
05:28Moreover, Peskov highlighted that President Vladimir Putin is ready to settle differences
05:33with Ukraine, but on his own terms.
05:36In this regard, members of the Federation Council assured a possible decline in allocating
05:41aid to Ukraine after Trump's victory, while legislators of the Duma said that the decision
05:47should be made by the Kremlin and not by the White House.
05:50Meanwhile, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip
05:55Erdogan recently held a telephone conversation in which they discussed several issues, including
06:00the peace process with Ukraine and the readiness of the parties.
06:09In Germany, activists demand compensation from Ukraine for damage and loss of profits
06:15caused by the explosion of the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
06:18The most recent investigations hold Kyiv responsible for the attack carried out by Ukrainian divers
06:24and led by Valery Slalussky, then commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
06:30The organization stopped the sanctions calls on the German government to suspend aid to
06:35Kyiv until the government of President Volodymyr Zelensky honors the compensation payments.
06:41They claim that the attack was directed especially against Germany, and they also denounce the
06:47United States' involvement.
06:52And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on Tiktok

07:00more.
07:01We'll be right back, stay with us!
07:21Welcome back!
07:22The United Nations Children's Fund warned on Sunday of the unprecedented spike in violence
07:27affecting children and adolescents in Haiti.
07:30In less than a year, the recruitment of minors by criminal groups has increased by 70%.
07:37The agency's studies estimate that half of the criminal groups are made up of minors.
07:42The plans imposed by the United States on the Caribbean nation have aggravated violence,
07:47generalized poverty, lack of access to education and the collapse of basic services.
07:52According to the UNICEF report, all these causes have fueled the wave of violence and
07:57helplessness of Haitian minors.
08:05In Mexico, the Chamber of Senators announced that over 10,000 people have registered to
08:10participate in the judicial elections scheduled for 2025 in the country.
08:14The upper house informed in a communiqué the postulation of candidacies via email
08:20was enabled until the deadline expired.
08:23Likewise, the Evaluation Committee of the different public bodies will assess each aspirant
08:29to partake in the elections scheduled for June 1, 2025.
08:34In this sense, the elections are themed for the judicial reform in which citizens will
08:38elect, by popular vote, nine ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice, five magistrates
08:44of the Court of Judicial Discipline, two of the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Court
08:48of the Judicial Power, 15 of the regional courts, 464 of the circuit courts, and 386
08:56district judges.
09:03More than 9,000 young people throughout the country have registered in the executive branch
09:08alone, and want to be honest judges, magistrates, honest magistrates, honest ministers.
09:20That is the fourth transformation.
09:21It has principles and causes that we must never betray.
09:27Venezuela's parliament holds an intensive information and training session ahead of
09:33the elections for judges of the peace to be held on December 15 to consolidate the
09:39communal government scheme.
09:41The legislators have been deployed across the nation to keep posted the already organized
09:46communes about the historical process.
09:49In addition, the period for the nominations of judges will be held from Monday through
09:54Thursday, November 28.
09:56The electoral commissions of the 5,240 communal circuits in the country will be responsible
10:02for receiving the applications and evaluating the suitability of the candidates in accordance
10:08with the law.
10:14In Ecuador, authorities registered a historic record high of more than 76,000 hectares burned
10:20so far in 2024 by forest fires.
10:23The National Risk Management Secretariat reports that there are currently 13 active fires in
10:29five provinces.
10:30The province of Loja is the most affected so far, with 32,958 hectares destroyed, including
10:37areas of the Podocarpus National Park.
10:41The Ecuadorian Air Force discharged 19,000 liters of water as part of the firefighting
10:46efforts in which more than 300 firefighters and 200 volunteers are participating.
10:52Authorities added that so far this year, forest fires have left 7 people injured, 235 victims
10:58and 317 people affected.
11:07Global media outlets reported that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is preparing an executive order
11:14aimed at expelling transgender soldiers from the military.
11:17The outlets unfolded that the GOP will sign the order on his first day in office.
11:24As a result, at least 15,000 soldiers will be discharged from the U.S. Army, alleging
11:30they are unfit for duty.
11:32The president-elect made that decision long before as he had criticized the army's progressive
11:36practices, saying they are more focused on inclusion than on combat planning.
11:41Earlier, Trump prevented transgender people from joining the military on his first term,
11:47but by that time he allowed those already serving to keep their posts.
11:55In Brazil, thousands of revelers gathered alongside Copacabana Beach for Rio de Janeiro's
12:01annual Pride Parade on Sunday.
12:03Let's see.
12:06Rainbow-colored flags, towels and fans abounded among the crowd, mostly made up of young people
12:13who danced and sang along to music blaring from speakers.
12:18While the atmosphere was festive, some spoke of the threat of violence LGBTQ plus people
12:24face in Brazil.
12:27At least 230 LGBTQ plus Brazilians were victims of violent deaths in 2023, according to the
12:34Umbrella Watchdog Group Observatory of LGBTQ plus deaths and violence in Brazil.
12:41And more trans people were murdered in Brazil last year than in any other country, according
12:47to Transgender Europe, a network of global non-profits that tracks the data.
12:54Despite the violence and rejection to which they are still subjected, LGBTQ plus communities
13:00continue to fight for the right to be respected, to have a family or simply to have a life.
13:10We all have the right to be who we want to be.
13:13It's important that people understand that.
13:16We're here to raise awareness, to make people aware that this is our right.
13:20Everyone's right to be who we want to be, to choose who we want to be, to have a life,
13:25to have a family.
13:27And that's what I'm here for, for sure, carrying the flag.
13:31One of the themes of this year's Pride March was sustainability.
13:36Environmental justice will only be possible with racial and social justice, gender equality
13:42and sexual diversity.
13:43Brazil has faced a series of environmental catastrophes this year, including record
13:48drought in the Amazon rainforest, floods in the southern Rio Grande, due solstice and
13:54wildfires across the country.

14:38Cuba stretched once again a hand of peace and reconciliation to the world within the
14:43framework of the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and
14:47Peace held in Cambodia in Southeast Asia.
14:50The plenary session was founded in 2017 as a mechanism to promote the culture of peace
14:56and fight off discrimination and extreme violence, while the International Parliament is made
15:01up of 58 delegations representing parliaments of different global regions.
15:06On the 11th Plenary Session, the Cuban delegation appreciated the support of the meeting in
15:11the struggle against the inhumane US blockade.
15:16Likewise, the Cuban representatives reaffirmed their commitment to peace, tolerance and reconciliation
15:22grounded in ethics, humanism and dignity of the Cuban Revolution.
15:26I take this opportunity to express once again Cuba's steadfast will to continue expanding
15:38and diversifying its relations on the grounds of dialogue, respect for sovereignty and peace
15:45among all nations.
15:49On behalf of the Cuban people, I would like to express our deepest gratitude for the permanent
15:56and unwavering support in the struggle of our country and the world for putting an end
16:03to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America.
16:13In Pakistan, thousands of supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan marched demanding
16:18his release despite heavy security measures in Islamabad.
16:22The national march, called by the pro-freedom movement, which has overcome attempts to cordon
16:28off several cities, continues sparking violent clashes with the security forces.
16:33The target is Islamabad, which, despite keeping a central zone blockaded, has not been able
16:38to stop thousands of citizens that continue advancing in violent clashes with the forces
16:44of law and order.
16:46Protesters are demanding the release of Khan, whose arrest last year triggered widespread
16:51rallies and led to a political crisis in Pakistan.
16:59In France, several cities witnessed massive demonstrations calling for a new law to protect
17:04women and minors who suffer from any form of sexual violence.
17:08In France, to register warring rates of gender violence in the year 2023, at least 93 women
17:15were victims of femicide.
17:18Protesters demand that the new legislation include the notion of consent, inspired by
17:23the case of Giselle Policot, who was drugged by her husband to be raped by dozens of men.
17:30Under the motto that rapists are the ones who should be feeling ashamed, Policot confronted
17:36the perpetrators in a trial, inspiring thousands of women and the urgent revision of laws.
17:42In France, a woman is raped every six minutes and only 0.5% result in a conviction for the
17:48aggression.
17:54In Luciani, Luzania, a Boeing 737 cargo aircraft crashed Monday into a residential building
18:02nearby the Vilnius airport.
18:05Local authorities detailed that the shipping company DHL was in charge of the cargo jet.
18:11The plane took off from Germany, crashing into a building in Vilnius minutes before
18:16reaching the airport.
18:17The Spanish-born pilot died in the incident while the other two crew members were rushed
18:23for medical assistance.
18:24The building hit by the crash had minor damages and no injuries were reported, but everyone
18:30was evacuated for safety.
18:45In Italy, the Fontana di Trevi is the most famous fountain in the Mediterranean country
18:50and one of the most emblematic monuments in Europe.
18:53Let's see some details.
18:58The Fontana di Trevi is located in the district of Trevi in Rome, the capital of Italy.
19:05It is a fountain of Baroque style that began to be built in the year 1732, but due to several
19:11complications it was finished 30 years later in 1762, and in its design, many architects
19:18and sculptors of the time participated.
19:21The fountain is located on the facade of the Palazzo Pali, and it is 20 meters wide and
19:2726 meters high.
19:28It is said, according to documents of the time, that after the fountain was built it
19:32had the best tasting water in all of Rome.
19:36For centuries locals and tourists, even the Vatican authorities used to drink its water,
19:42but this practice was prohibited in 1961.
19:48The main artistic theme that composes the Fontana di Trevi is the sea.
19:53In the center there is the statue of the Titan Oceano, framed by columns.
19:58In the lower part the representation of a rocky cliff and on it, two winged horses that
20:04are known as Agitated and Placid, representing the two states of the sea.
20:09On the sides of the ocean, the statues of abundance on the right side and of healthiness
20:14on the left side.
20:16The fountain is accompanied by a plaza that allows visitors to appreciate it, and has
20:20become an icon of Baroque architecture today.
20:25In 1954 the film Three Coins in the Fountain was released, and since then tourists from
20:30all over the world have the habit of throwing coins into the fountain, from which approximately
20:361 million euros are extracted every year, and since 2007 the money is used for the conservation
20:42of the fountain or for charitable purposes.
20:45Last May 21st some climate change activists dyed its waters black to demand a halt to
20:50the use of fossil fuels.
20:52The site, however, was not permanently damaged.
20:55The Trevi Fountain, together with the historic center of Rome, are recognized as a World
21:00Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980.
