00:38And heavy rains in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina have caused the closure
00:43of major roads flooding in several cities and landslides.
00:50Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Ana Marrero from the Tel Aviv headquarters
00:54in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:55Now, we'll be with the news, stay with us.
01:14The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas denounced the Israelis trying to violate the
01:18ceasefire agreement with multiple attacks in the Gaza Strip.
01:21In the Middle Office's statement, Hamas urged the international community, the United Nations
01:26and all parties involved to take measures to stop the genocide by Israel.
01:30In this regard, the Gaza Civil Defense reported more than 100 people were killed in Gaza due
01:35to the Israeli bombardment after the announcement of the ceasefire.
01:39Since October 7, 2023, over 36,700 Palestinians have been killed and more than 110,200 injured.
01:47Israel's Food Cabinet approved on Friday a ceasefire deal after the country secured
01:59the cabinet's side of the deal earlier.
02:02The agreement will stop the 15-month Israeli genocide war in the Gaza Strip and the release
02:08of hundreds of prisoners and hostages between the two signatory parties.
02:12The process of release will start on Sunday with the Israeli prisoners and will continue
02:17weeks later with the Palestinian hostages in Israeli jails.
02:20The path has drawn fierce resistance from Netanyahu's far-right coalition partners who
02:27have the peace to stabilize his government.
02:30Israeli strikes have killed thousands of Palestinians since the deal was announced, while the Sunni
02:34military has confirmed it had hit about 50 targets across Gaza over the past day.
02:45The Axis of Resistance won because its demands and conditions were completely fulfilled,
02:50but Israel's were not.
02:52That's why I believe that the Axis of Resistance won.
03:02Its resistance is getting stronger because both the people of Gaza and Lebanon have witnessed
03:06the triumph of Gaza under difficult conditions, which made them stronger.
03:13Hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered from the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta,
03:18the Indonesian capital, to celebrate the ceasefire deal in Gaza.
03:24We are here to celebrate the victory of our brothers and sisters in Gaza because of the
03:28ceasefire deal struck by Qatar, the United States and Egypt.
03:32Of course this makes our brothers and sisters in Gaza, Palestine, happy and joyful because
03:37part of the deal is the release of some Palestinian prisoners.
03:46Because of the ceasefire too, the humanitarian aid can enter Gaza and is no longer stuck
03:51in Rafah, Egypt.
03:54In this context, hundreds of people rallied in Canada in front of the Israeli consulate
03:59to call an end to the genocidal war in Gaza.
04:02The demonstration comes in the final details of the Gaza ceasefire and how the U.S. released
04:06equipment nearing completion.
04:09Demonstrators chanted slogans such as, we are all Palestinians and Palestinians will
04:13live forever.
04:14Moreover, they created plant cards reading Gaza Resist and Free Palestine.

04:32Welcome back to From the South.
04:33The Iranian President Massoud Rajavi met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Friday
05:01to sign a comprehensive Israeli partnership agreement between the two countries.
05:05After bilateral talks, the leaders signed a 20-year treaty that will strengthen bonds
05:10between these countries in fields such as economy, energy, culture and trade.
05:14The document aims to create conditions for stable and sustainable development.
05:18The Russian President said the aim was to create conditions for less bureaucracy, more
05:22action.
05:23Peggy Shands, for her part, said that a treaty had been drawn up to the basis of the interests
05:29of both countries and points out that Moscow and Tehran were capable of ensuring their
05:34security independently and developed in cooperation without recursing to other countries.
05:40But we will also sign a big foundational treaty between Russia and Iran on comprehensive strategic
05:50partnership.
05:52We continue to work on our large-scale projects, including the projects in nuclear power generation,
05:59in the field of energy.
06:11We also have other possible projects in the field of logistics.
06:19We have good prospects.
06:25And I'm also glad to note, to speak, to mention our cooperation in the field of humanitarian
06:33ties.
06:42This comprehensive strategic plan, which has been studied for years, will be signed today,
06:47and in all fields of security economic, cultural and commercial we will be able to increase
06:51relations and strengthen these relations with each other.
06:55A special court in Pakistan sentenced former Prime Minister Erdogan to 14 years in prison
07:02on Friday, after being accused of receiving loans as a bribe during his term in office.
07:08At the same ground, Bursh Habibi Khan's wife was also sentenced to seven years.
07:14The case involved a shareable trust set up by Khan and his wife in 2018, when he was
07:19still at the helm of government, in which they allegedly obtained lands worth US$20-40
07:26million as a bribe from real estate tycoon Malik Rais Hussein.
07:33The verdict came in negotiations between the Pakistan government and Khan's opposition,
07:39Pakistan's 13th party, after months of intensified political turmoil and street protests.
07:48The Chinese government reported on Friday that its domestic economy brought in at an
07:56annual rate of 5% in 2024.
08:00Official data revealed that the Chinese economy grew 5.4% from October to December 2024, both
08:05by strong exports and stimulus measures.
08:08Chinese Commissioner of the National Security Bureau highlighted that throughout all policies
08:13pursued and social confidence strengthened, the economy has recovered remarkably.
08:19Overall, exports accelerated as businesses and customers rushed to avoid possible direct
08:26rises that US President-elect Donald Trump might impose on Chinese goods once he takes office.
08:36Preliminary estimates show that annual gross domestic product, GDP, was 134.9 trillion
08:42yuan, an upsurge of 5% over the previous year at constant prices.
09:12Welcome back.
09:35Heavy rains in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina have caused the closure
09:40of major roads, flooding several cities and landslides.
09:43The rainfall has exceeded 100 millimeters in a few hours in localities such as Florianópolis
09:48and Camboriú, and has had a significant impact on the region, affecting both residents and
09:54tourists.
09:55In Tabemá, entire neighborhoods were underwater, prompting authorities to issue warnings to
10:01the population to take extreme precautions.
10:04Thousands of tourists on vacation in southern Brazil, mostly from Argentina, have been affected
10:08by the adverse weather conditions, with the rains complicating travels and access to the
10:13beaches, one of the region's main attractions.
10:19On a beach at La Testa Boche, near the Aquaranche, the western France, almost a dozen
10:25wet-drained Christmas trees have become wet spreads to keep the ocean at bay.
10:33The idea is to make them aware of the impact of treading, so that they understand that
10:38because people haven't respected the paths and so on that are provided for people, and
10:42because they haven't been respected, this creates these openings in the dune.
10:46And these openings mean that with the action of the wind, we have issues that are covered
10:50by sand.
10:51And if they, through their actions, can contribute to repairing all that, and if they understand
10:57that it shouldn't be done, we've achieved our objective.
11:00The purpose of these fir trees is to trap sand.
11:03In fact, if you look at the profile of the beach here, you can see that it's very wide.
11:07And when the wind pushes this sand towards the dune, the idea is that it will be blocked
11:11by these fir trees.
11:12We really use them as windbreaks.
11:14We're going to try and cover them with sand to try and fill in the depression we can see
11:18behind us, and prevent the sand from blowing back up and covering the road and the car
11:21park just behind.
11:22In the northeastern Colombian region of Catatumbo, at least three people have been killed in
11:27clashes between the National Liberation Army and the decedent factionaries of the Revolutionary
11:32Armed Forces of Colombia, the FARC.
11:35According to the Ombudsman's office, in addition to the deaths, there are at least
11:39thousands wounded.
11:40Moreover, the entity expressed its regret for the situation of the region, and said
11:45that the situation of the Colombian Armed Forces is the reason for the casualties.
11:49It also expressed regret for the situation of the region that has resulted in the company
11:54of children or several disabled people living in the area, unable to flee as well as forced
12:01displacements.
12:02It also called for an end to the attacks against civilians and asked the ELN to respect international
12:08humanitarian law.
12:09Meanwhile, the ELN has reportedly begun fighting against the Structure 33, the decedent faction
12:16of the now extinct FARC.
12:19In Venezuela, the Special Commission for the Revision of the Electoral Laws and Regulations
12:27of the National Assembly, together with the National Electoral Council, have led the proposal
12:32of the political parties and organizations for the electoral schedule 2025.
12:36The entities evaluated the proposal to define the dates, processes, and scenarios of re-elections
12:42to be held in 2025.
12:44According to the President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, there will be a
12:47round of joint elections in 2025, including those of mayors, governors, legislative and
12:53municipal councils, as well as parliamentary and also constitutional reform.
12:58Rodriguez points out that the election will be ruled by the constitutional-based National
13:02Electoral Council and not by the decision of any other national or international body.
13:07According to this constitution, the only body that has the power to organize, summon, count
13:14the votes, proclaim elected candidates, and give them the credential as elected officials,
13:19is the electoral power, the National Electoral Council, its five principal members and ten
13:24alternates, as well as its three subordinate bodies.
13:28There is no other national entity that has the power to organize, summon, count the votes,
13:35there is no other national entity, much less an extraterritorial one, that has the power
13:40to make decisions in electoral matters.
13:43That is why we have come here with proposals from the political parties.
14:04At least nine elections must be held in the year 2025 and we will probably have to hold
14:13ten elections this year.
14:15The six consultations that in an exceptional way, as proposed by President Nicolas Maduro,
14:21allow the people from the communities, from the neighborhood, from their residents,
14:25from the small towns, from the villages, to choose which are the projects that correspond
14:30to the needs of their community in particular, or that have more importance for them.
14:35Therefore, four consultations will be held on these projects and the consultation specifically
14:40addressed to the youth and the cultural sector, six consultations of similar characteristics
14:45to the elections of communal justices of the peace that took place last December 15, 2024.
14:59Ten Latin American countries concluded Mexico City on Friday,
15:03a summit meeting on migration in the face of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's threat
15:07of mass deportation.
15:09The summit, which was called Meeting on Human Mobility Along the Northern Road of the Continent
15:16Towards an Orderly, Safe, Regular, Responsible, and Humane Management,
15:20began on Thursday and was attended by the foreign ministers of Belize, Brazil, Colombia,
15:25Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, and Venezuela.
15:30During a press conference held on Friday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum provided
15:34details of the meeting and said its objective was to look for a joint strategy to avoid migration
15:40and to attend to the migrants that will be deported from the U.S.
15:49We initiated a dialogue to strengthen a strategy, on the one hand, to avoid migration
15:54through the cooperation for development, which is the essence of our strategy.
16:00Most people don't migrate for pleasure but out of necessity, and we insist on that with the
16:05government of the United States and in our cooperation contacts with all the governments
16:09of Central and South America, so that people can be assisted in their place of origin and
16:18have access to jobs, so that they can have access to a safe and dignified life.
16:30At the same time, to coordinate and be in communication in relation to any strategy
16:38proposed by the government of President Trump. First of all, we will always defend the Mexicans
16:50who are in the United States and one of our priorities in our dialogues,
16:54after President Trump takes office, will be the defense of our nationals in the United States
17:03and showing them that statistics show how important the Mexicans are for the economy of that country.
17:13We have already worked out a strategy in case of massive deportations,
17:17but first let's wait and see what the United States government does.
