00:00Overnight, Israeli swarming drones have invaded the Gaza Strip on Friday morning, so they
00:18killed around 30 Gazans, including children.
00:24At least 3,000 people fled their homes in Mozambique in the last week due to violence
00:29in post-election protests.
00:35Maldives Meteorological Service has extended the orange alert issued earlier for central
00:40territories as the north-east monsoon hits the island country.
00:48Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:53We begin with the news.
01:11Sixteen people, including children, were reported dead on Friday after Israel launched missile
01:16strikes on several areas in Gaza.
01:18According to a spokesman for Gaza's civil defence, the strikes occurred on Gaza City,
01:23the central Magasi refugee camp and the southern city of Rafah.
01:27On the other hand, the Israeli military reported three rockets targeting its territory from
01:31the Gaza Strip on the same day.
01:33The Israeli army has conducted intense rain raids in Gaza since October 2023, saying it
01:40is an effort to prevent Hamas operatives from regrouping there.
01:44However, United Nations right experts said Monday the north Gaza siege appears to be
01:50part of an effort to permanently displace the local population as a precursor to Gaza's
01:56annexation.
02:02We are talking about eight raids in the Gaza Strip, all of them clearly targeting children
02:06and civilians.
02:10The latest of these raids targeted the Shama area.
02:15Three children were killed and more than 15 were injured, 90% of whom were children.
02:22This is a new method that the occupation is using to intensify these airstrikes, not only
02:26targeted on homes, but also mostly on gatherings of citizens and those walking in the streets
02:31or sitting in front of their homes.
02:34The Israeli occupation forces launched a series of airstrikes on the southern part of Al-Sawida
02:39city in the Gaza Strip during the early hours of Friday morning as part of the genocide
02:44being carried out against the Palestinian people.
02:50Planes of the invading Zionist troops bombed the refugee camps in the south of Gaza, leaving
02:56more than a hundred martyrs, most of them women and children.
03:01The children of martyr Mohammed Abu Lobda were safe in their homes, in the midst of
03:05cold, fear and terror.
03:07Without any prior warning, warplanes bombed their house, a safe home, with a missile,
03:16whose weight God only knows, maybe 500 kilograms or more.
03:20What happened is nothing but revenge.
03:24A revenge against civilians, as you can see, small children, old people and women.
03:32Praise be to Allah, we thank God in all circumstances.
03:38Are children a threat to the Jews?
03:42A danger, of course.
03:44They represent a great threat, according to them, because everyone who lives on this earth
03:49is a threat to them.
03:54Emergency teams continue to operate in the area in order to rescue the injured and recover
03:58the bodies of the victims trapped under the rubble or in inaccessible places.
04:06My father was martyred under the rubble, and we still haven't been able to get him
04:09out since last year.
04:12The Jews only attack the children.
04:15Little children, all they want to do is kill little children.
04:19Every day we see children slaughtered, little girls torn to pieces, children in first and
04:24second grade at school.
04:26What is their fault for the war?
04:28Are they the targets of the Jews?
04:31Are they Hamas, Fatah or Jihad?
04:34We don't want anyone to negotiate on our behalf.
04:38Since October 2023, the Israeli offensive has claimed the lives of more than 45,581
04:44Palestinians, while the number of wounded has reached 108,438.
04:49And these data do not include the deaths and other consequences of the humanitarian crisis
04:53derived from the invasion of the Tel Aviv regime to the Palestinian territory.
04:59Drinking water contamination rates in the Gaza Strip have become a cause of concern
05:04in the midst of the genocidal siege launched by Israel.
05:06Also, it is denounced that the Israeli army destroyed more than 80% of the sewage infrastructure,
05:12which caused leaks and contamination.
05:15It also warned about the lack of this vital resource in the enclave, which aggravates
05:19even more the humanitarian crisis, since more than 75% of the wells in the city were totally
05:25or partially damaged.
05:26The cost to external supply, the systematic destruction of facilities and the deliberate
05:31obstruction of aid have reduced the amount of water in Gaza by 94%.
05:41The Palestinian Defense Ministry reports a worsening of the humanitarian crisis in the
05:45Gaza Strip following heavy rains and flooding that have severely damaged tent camps and
05:50temporary shelters.
05:52In this regard, emergency services informed that areas in southern, northern and central
05:57Gaza have been rendered uninhabitable due to the flooding that has left dozens of makeshift
06:03shelters, tents with more than 30 cm of water inside.
06:07Furthermore, the situation is aggravated as thousands of Palestinians also face adverse
06:13weather conditions due to the severe cold temperatures.
06:20More than 2 million Yemenis marched in several cities in solidarity with the Palestinian
06:24people and against the genocide that Israel commits in the region aided by the United
06:29States.
06:30The crowds gathered at the main squares of cities nationwide to reaffirm the victory's
06:35resilience and loyalty to the peoples of Palestine and Lebanon.
06:39The participants carried the flags of the three countries as well as those of resistance
06:44movements and pictures of the Ansar al-Assad leader.
06:47During the mobilizations, the Yemenis demanded a stop to the ongoing genocide and to the
06:52ex-functionist plans of the Israeli regime's occupying forces.
07:01Yemen's Houthi group said Friday that it launched missile and drone attacks on the
07:05Israeli city of Tel Aviv.
07:07Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Zaria said in a statement broadcast by Houthi-run Al-Masirat
07:13TV that the group launched a hypersonic ballistic missile at a power station in eastern Tel
07:18Aviv early Friday morning, claiming that the missile had hit the target accurately.
07:23Zaria said the group also launched a bomb-laden drone targeting a military target in Tel Aviv.
07:30On the other hand, the Israeli Defense Forces stated early Friday it had intercepted a missile
07:36fired by Houthis and in a separate statement later that it had intercepted a drone launched
07:41from Yemen before it crossed into Israeli territory.
07:48The missile force of the Yemeni Armed Forces carried out a specific military operation
07:56targeting the Israeli enemy's power station east of the occupied area of Jaffa, using
08:07a hypersonic ballistic missile, type Palestine 2.
08:11The missile hit its target accurately.
08:18The UAV force of the Yemeni Armed Forces also conducted a military operation targeting
08:23a military object of the Israeli enemy in the occupied area of Jaffa, using a drone
08:28type Jaffa.
08:30The operation successfully achieved its objective.
09:01Welcome back from the south.
09:03At least 3,000 people fled their homes in Mozambique in the last week due to violence

09:57metres of gas, of which 54.45 billion came from the Russian Federation.
10:03This represents a 21% increase in Russian supplies to the European nations compared
10:08to 2023, which ended with an 18% increase in exports.
10:13On the other hand, the United States remained as the second largest exporter of gas to the

10:44no casualties reported so far.
10:46Kazakhstan's national road operator Kazakhstolhov says the crash happened under low visibility
10:52conditions due to a snowstorm and the non-observance of the speed limit.
10:58The police have said the evacuation of vehicles is ongoing and that emergency services personnel
11:03are also on the site.
11:11A mass car accident occurred at the 153th kilometre of the Astana-Petropavlovsk road.
11:18Around 95 vehicles were involved in the crash under low visibility conditions and due to

11:26In Serbia, as part of a set of new social policies, the major of the capital city Belgrade
11:32has decreed free access to public transport as of January 1.
11:36The measure, according to Major Alexander Zabik, will prevent monthly annual or discount
11:42tickets making the city the first in Europe with more than half a million inhabitants
11:47to have transport free of charges.
11:49In this context, it is expected for citizens to use public transport more in order to reduce
11:54traffic and avoid environmental pollution.
11:56Zabik also indicated that the vehicle fleet of both the private and public sectors will
12:02be modernised.

13:54Maldives Meteorological Service has extended the orange alert issued earlier for central
13:59territories as the northeast monsoon hits the island country.
14:03The weather forecasting body had earlier issued an orange alert from Baatol to Taatol to be
14:09in effect from 3pm local time to 7pm local time on Friday.
14:14The alert warning of heavy rains and thunderstorms with possible flooding has now been extended
14:20until 11pm on Friday night.
14:23In this sense, the severe weather conditions have been attributed to the transition between
14:27two monsoons.
14:28While the beginning of the northeast monsoon was declared on Thursday, the northeast monsoon
14:33had started later than usual this year.
14:36Meanwhile, the Maldives National Defence Forces are making efforts to drain the flood in collaboration
14:42with the male city council.
14:48The Russian government has reported the removal of 78,000 tonnes of fuel spilled by stormstrike
14:54and tankers in the Kerch Strait off the coast of Karnodar.
14:59Emergency crews and volunteers have cleaned up hundreds of kilometres of contaminated
15:04land and rescued thousands of seabirds.
15:07The Ministry of Emergency Situations is continuing to monitor the behaviour of the substance
15:12in order to remove it as it is dragged to the surface.
15:16The authorities have said that the contaminated sand removed will be decontaminated and later
15:22returned to the beach.
15:28In Lithuania, heavy rains led to overflowing rivers in the western region, prompting the
15:33government to declare a state of emergency.
15:36Rainfall caused the weather level in the Minija River to exceed the national level, while
15:41the Akmian River also approached its limit height.
15:45Similar concerns over the rising waters triggered an official state of emergency in Kratinga
15:50and in several villages of the region.
15:52In the past 24 hours, the water level of the rivers has risen by an average of 192 centimetres,
15:59while rescue services remain on high alert.
16:06The Brazilian Navy reported on Friday that the body of the 13th victim of last month's
16:12bridge collapse in the north of the country was found, while four people are still missing.
16:17The corpse, still unidentified, was found by drones in the depths of the Tocantins River,
16:22below a section of the Juselino-Kubicek-de-Oliveira bridge that collapsed on December 22nd.
16:29On the other hand, police operating on the border of Maranao and Tocantins states have
16:34said that four trucks, two cars and two motorcycles also fell into the river when the disaster
16:40occurred.
16:41Meanwhile, there has been no word on the cause of the bridge collapse, although police and
16:46Brazil's highway department are investigating.
16:53The Catholic Church of El Salvador requests veto against the mining law decree approved
16:58on December 23rd, 2024.
17:00The Catholic clergy condemned the legislative measure that will allow the exploitation of
17:05metallic mining carried out without considering the harmful consequences on life and environment.
17:11The representatives of the Church warned that they will formally request the President of
17:15the Republic, Nayib Bukele, to veto the motion.
17:19The decision of the Parliament on the mining law has been strongly criticised by organisations
17:24protecting the environment and by Salvadorans in general, who have demonstrated on several
17:28occasions.
17:33Costa Rica's Judicial Investigation Agency reported that 2024 was the second most violent
17:39year in its history with 880 homicides.
17:42During a press conference, authorities of the Judicial Investigation Agency stressed
17:47that the figure of 880 murders is a preliminary figure, assuring that there are still pending
17:53autopsies and analyses in progress to determine if the death of some people was really a homicide.
18:00They also explained that although this figure represents a reduction of 2.7% compared to
18:062023, it shows an upward trend, according to December data, adding that an average of
18:132.5 murders per day was maintained.
18:16In a study published last December 17th, the agency detailed that the homicide rate has
18:21been growing since 2019, when it was 11.2 per 100,000 inhabitants, reaching 12.5 in
18:292022 and 17.2 in 2023, the highest in history.
18:38In Ecuador, President Daniel Navoa has extended the state of emergency for 60 more days as
18:43part of his efforts to face organised crime in the country.
18:47The state of emergency will be enforced in seven provinces, the metropolitan district
18:51of Quito, in the province of Pichincha, the canton of Turcal, in the province of Cañar
18:56and the canton of Camilo Ponce Enríquez, in the province of Azuay.
19:01According to the government's statements, the decision is based on the increase in rates
19:05of violence and crime and the prolonged presence of organised armed groups in the provinces
19:10affected.
19:11The president's decision maintains the armed forces on the streets, strengthening it will
19:16only be on a temporary basis, regulated and with the obligation by the military to respect
19:22the due process.
