00:00This season on Project Runway...
00:02Let's go!
00:04I think it's dope!
00:10Here we have 100 women of all ages.
00:13Sparks are quite literally flying.
00:16Our first ever pop-up shop.
00:18Yes!
00:20And then, look, watch.
00:22Oh, my God.
00:24It's very ballsy.
00:26I cannot go home yet.
00:28If you are going to cry, go outside.
00:31Just sit your ass down and calm the down.
00:33Oh, hell no.
00:35Lights, please.
00:41Guest Judge Priyanka Chopra, Kelly Osborne, Nina Dobrev, Emily Ratajkowski.
00:47This was one of my favorite pieces I've seen in many seasons.
00:50And you did it here first.
00:52It's kind of sad.
00:54Who is this bland person?
00:56Fashion isn't fair.
00:58Does that mean you gave up?
00:59I can't believe this.
01:14I cannot believe I'm here.
01:17I'm absolutely a hustler.
01:22I try every day to hustle harder than the day before.
01:26I still don't even think that it's fully hit me yet that I'm in New York.
01:31When my dad dropped me off at the airport, his eyes started tearing up.
01:35And he said, remember to say yes ma'am and yes sir and to win, damn it.
01:42Fashion was actually not what I first started out doing.
01:46I actually studied herpetology at Berkeley.
01:48I thought, I don't know that I can fully commit to being bit every day for the rest of my life.
01:53Which is funny that I moved into fashion because it's kind of a similar thing.
01:56It's just like not actual blood, but people are kind of cutthroat.
01:59The point of me being here as far as I'm concerned is to show off my work.
02:02I'm going to do what I want to do.
02:03My mother has said that she hasn't been able to tell me what to do since I was nine years old.
02:09This is so nice.
02:11I feel really special walking into this room because I didn't want to touch nothing look so good.
02:15Hi.
02:16Hey, how you doing?
02:17Good, how are you?
02:18I'm Tasha.
02:19I'm Ian, nice to meet you.
02:20Nice to meet you.
02:21You're the first ones, right?
02:22Yes.
02:23My hometown, Tripoli, Louisiana.
02:24The girls with all overdone makeup and skin tight dresses and that is not me.
02:30I design for the girls that don't like to wear heels.
02:33The tomboys, the girls that like to stay relaxed but look chic.
02:38A lot of people have told me that you don't seem like the type to be the designer.
02:41And I never knew that a designer had a look.
02:43Hey.
02:44Hey guys.
02:45I was going to wear that same outfit.
02:47So what kind of stuff do you do?
02:49I make clothes and art.
02:52My aesthetic is humorous, playful, but also with like a little bit of like a seriousness to it.
02:57There's always like some twist.
02:59I just finished up school.
03:00Oh, cool.
03:01So I just graduated.
03:02I grew up partially Mormon.
03:03I didn't have a lot of exposure to internet.
03:05My ex-stepdad would lock the computer away.
03:07But I'm smart.
03:08I think I'm smart.
03:10Right?
03:13I've been designing for almost ten years.
03:16At the beginning, I wanted to go to architecture school, but I wanted to see results faster.
03:23Hey, I'm Sasha.
03:24I was a designer in Venezuela, back home in Caracas.
03:28But political situation, it's kind of difficult to succeed as a fashion designer there.
03:33It must be so crazy.
03:34Yeah.
03:35There's like so much drama going on over there.
03:36Yeah.
03:37Well, it's been difficult.
03:38Well, welcome.
03:39I'm happy you're here.
03:41Yeah.
03:42How badly do I want to do in this competition?
03:44I want to do so well.
03:46I want to do well for other women that can relate to starting another career at my age.
03:52This is my chance to reinvent myself.
03:56And I don't want to blow it.
03:58Hi guys.
03:59Oh, Natalia.
04:00Hi.
04:01What's going on, girl?
04:02I'm freaking out because I know Cory because I went to school with him.
04:06We did shows together.
04:07We've competed together.
04:08And I beat him.
04:09Me and Natalia do have a little rivalry.
04:12So it's going to be really interesting.
04:15See what happens when you come in last?
04:17I know, right?
04:18There's no more champagne glasses.
04:19I had to use a mug.
04:24Hi.
04:25Hi guys.
04:26Hi.
04:27Hi.
04:28Mr. Gunn and Mrs. Harry Walter is done.
04:31Hi, everyone.
04:32Hi.
04:33Welcome.
04:34I want to welcome all of you to season 15 of Project Runway.
04:38Unbelievable.
04:41We've still got it.
04:42The magic.
04:43We do.
04:44We have a lot of surprises for you this season.
04:47Uh-oh. Uh-oh.
04:48And the first of which is right now.
04:50This is it.
04:51Your first challenge is starting immediately.
04:56Oh.
04:57My.
04:58God.
04:59Wow.
05:00I've had two glasses of champagne and I'm like, well, thank God I put that second glass down.
05:04We want you to take the spirit, the aura, and the vibe of this fabulous launch party and incorporate those elements into your first look.
05:15I'm pretty excited.
05:16Like, to make a cocktail dress is fun.
05:17Like, yes.
05:18Like, I can do this.
05:20We actually want you to take a little bit more than just the spirit.
05:27Whatever we decorate at this beautiful party with are your materials.
05:36Oh, .
05:37So you grab whatever you can.
05:39If it's not nailed down, it's yours.
05:41Now?
05:42Not yet.
05:43You have exactly five minutes.
05:45Are you ready?
05:46Yes!
05:47On your mark, let's go!
05:52Yikes.
05:53I want to grab the flowers.
06:00My jeans came up the side of the corner and snatches them out of my hand.
06:04You're not going to take all of the flowers.
06:05I want to use some, too.
06:08My bad.
06:09I'm glad you're laughing.
06:10I just go straight towards the yellow wigs and just went crazy with yellow.
06:1630 seconds!
06:17Oh, my God!
06:21Ah!
06:22No!
06:23Five!
06:24Four!
06:25Three!
06:26Two!
06:27One!
06:28Let go!
06:29Three!
06:30You guys rocked it!
06:31I am sending you to the work room to get settled in and I will join you very soon.
06:37I'll see you on the runway.
06:38Yes!
06:39Hi, everybody!
06:40Head off to the work room.
06:41Oh, man, I've probably been grabbing them, so hopefully this will work.
06:46My God, they're really trash this place.
06:49I think we deserve a drink now.
06:51Are there any glasses?
06:52Mmm.
06:53There are no glasses, but there are two bottles.
06:55One for you, one for me.
06:57Wow!
06:58Cheers, Heidi, to season 15!
07:03Mmm.
07:04That's nice and it cuts out the middle man.
07:05I like it.
07:06Oh, my gosh.
07:07Okay.
07:08Ooh.
07:09We got my ad.
07:10Right here!
07:11Whoa.
07:12I'm here.
07:13I'm in the work room.
07:14This is official.
07:15Another surreal moment.
07:16It's something I have seen on TV for so long, and now it's me standing there.
07:20This is awesome.
07:21It is.
07:22This is great.
07:23Yeah.
07:24Hello.
07:25Hi.
07:26Hi, Tam.
07:27Welcome to your fabulous work room.
07:28Do you like it?
07:29Yeah.
07:30Good.
07:31Speaking of fabulous, we have the just-
07:32Oh, my gosh.
07:33Oh, my gosh.
07:34Okay.
07:35Ooh.
07:36We got my ad.
07:37Right here!
07:38Whoa.
07:39I'm here.
07:40I'm in the work room.
07:41This is official.
07:42Another surreal moment.
07:43It's something I have seen on TV for so long.
07:44This is fabulous.
07:45We have the Just Fab Accessories wall for your use this entire season.
07:49We have the Brother Sewing Room, which is behind this wall.
07:52Work hard and have fun with this challenge, okay?
07:54Okay.
07:55And I will see you a little later.
08:02What is this, the candy wrappers?
08:03Yeah.
08:04Oh, the taffy?
08:05Yeah.
08:07So there's this theory that from an evolutionary standpoint that humans are drawn towards shiny objects
08:13because of their constant search for water.
08:15But I think, like anybody, I'm attracted to glitter.
08:19I'd love to make bell-bottom pants covered in glitter.
08:25Growing up in Baton Rouge is not a fashionable place.
08:28All I knew of fashion was my mom would take us to Mervyn's.
08:34But now, fashion is my art.
08:37My ultimate way of expressing who I am as a person.
08:41And as an artist, expression is the priority.
08:45Perfect.
08:46Oh, this is so cute.
08:47I know.
08:48Aren't they cute?
08:49I'm going to use some of them on the dress, for sure.
08:50I decided on a shift.
08:51The screens are going to be like my basis.
08:52It's going to be simple.
08:53I mean, it is.
08:54I never finished my degree.
08:56School wasn't for me, basically.
08:57So I'm essentially self-taught.
08:58I don't make wearable art.
08:59I make clothes that you should be able to wear.
09:14It's not that I can't make it.
09:16I just don't like to do it.
09:18I'm going towards some type of low crotch pants, probably long gated type of top.
09:32So how y'all feeling so far?
09:34I don't feel good.
09:36You don't?
09:37No.
09:38Pray it off.
09:39I am.
09:40Pray it off.
09:41Yeah, you're trying to be creative, but at the same time you think about, I don't want
09:44to go home.
09:45The first challenge.
09:46Thank you, Ms. Kimber.
09:48Hi.
09:49Hello.
09:50Hi, Tim.
09:51Hello.
09:52Hi, Tim.
09:53So it's our first critique session.
09:55How exciting.
09:56Is everyone feeling ready?
09:57Yeah.
09:58Great.
09:59I can't wait.
10:00I definitely don't want to let Tim gun down.
10:01I'd be ashamed if I were that person.
10:04Rick.
10:05Hello.
10:06Hi, Tim.
10:07I'm eager to hear everything about this.
10:08I found these big bowls of glitter, and I wanted to make a fun fitted and a little flare
10:14at the bottom pant.
10:15How is the glitter adhered?
10:17Various cornucopia of glues.
10:20It just wants to go to the floor or on me.
10:23So you are going to put more on.
10:25Yes, yes.
10:26Good.
10:27Quite frankly, it's just a real wow factor.
10:29Carry on, Brick.
10:30I will.
10:31I will.
10:32Going into Tim's critique, I'm not nervous at all.
10:35Part of being an artist is getting crit.
10:37Ian.
10:38Hi, Tim.
10:39I don't take it personally.
10:40While I respect your aesthetic, it seems very basic.
10:44I mean, honestly, this is like a lot of work.
10:47I would just consider doing something that makes it look more fully integrated into the
10:52garment as opposed to something that's velcroed on we could just take off.
10:56Aesthetically, I do not do avant-garde like at all.
10:59So it would be difficult for me to be true to myself as a designer just like putting stuff
11:03on there for the sake of putting it on there.
11:05I want you to be who you are.
11:06It's just if you think about expanding this into more volume.
11:11I hate volume.
11:14I respect Tim 100%, but I don't really think I'm going to change much.
11:19Like at all.
11:20I don't like to do over the top.
11:22Tim says Ian's outfit is missing flair.
11:25Ding, ding, ding.
11:26Change your outfit, Ian.
11:28So I was thinking I could create a skirt out of this, but I just don't want the judges
11:33to be like, oh, it's the Tin Man's wife.
11:35It's a very over the top look.
11:37You made a commitment to this.
11:39Own the bride of Tin Man.
11:42Okay.
11:43This is stunning.
11:44I love how you use these plates.
11:46In fact, I wouldn't even know what they were, which is fantastic.
11:49Awesome.
11:50Alex.
11:51Hi, Tim.
11:52So talk to me.
11:53I'm kind of liking the angular shapes on them.
11:55It's extremely elegant.
11:56And I like how you've used the polka dot.
11:59And I like the overall silhouette.
12:02And I like the surprise element.
12:04Okay.
12:05How are you doing?
12:06What I want to do is kind of like this off the shoulder.
12:08And it will kind of look like a fur coat.
12:11So what's happening down below?
12:13I've been like cutting the tracks to be like fringe.
12:16And then I used the gumballs and I cut them in half.
12:18And then I was using these beads.
12:21All right.
12:23Thanks.
12:24Talk to me.
12:25I got to work with the lanterns.
12:28Then I discovered they were capable of doing very interesting shape.
12:33Yes.
12:34And started playing with the shapes.
12:36Barry's look is just insane.
12:39I love it.
12:40I'm eager to see how this continues to evolve.
12:43Holy crap.
12:44This is who I'm competing against.
12:46The beads.
12:47You're using them as a necklace.
12:49It's the unconventional materials challenge.
12:51And then you've used it very conventionally.
12:53If I were a judge, I might put you in the bottom.
12:56I have a very positive response to how organic this is.
13:00Okay.
13:01I just think this shoulder treatment.
13:04I don't know that you want to go for that Madonna Galliano moment.
13:08How are you?
13:09Hey.
13:10I'm getting a little Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, Banksy.
13:14I'm now a painter.
13:16Your average Picasso.
13:18It's now become a fine arts painting project.
13:21Right.
13:22Have you just given lip service to unconventional materials?
13:26I did manage to grab some boas.
13:28Okay.
13:29And I was going to create a fur, but it's too costume.
13:32Like a fur shrug.
13:33At least you're introducing another material.
13:36Right.
13:37I'll make it work.
13:38You have to.
13:39I have to.
13:40All right, designers.
13:41I'm very excited about the work that you're doing.
13:43And for most of you, you have a lot of work to do.
13:46You have two hours remaining.
13:48Your models will be in in one hour.
13:56Look at that.
13:59Erin has nothing up on the dress form.
14:01She's over in the corner just messing around with trinkets.
14:04Eating pixie sticks.
14:05If Erin gets the wrong girl, it could be a problem.
14:07If I got a super pale red head and I had to put yellow on her, I would die.
14:12All right.
14:13Yeah, you got blue, girl.
14:14Sorry.
14:15There you go.
14:16I grabbed a rug at the party and I'm using that to make my design.
14:29I'm feeling much better, but not great.
14:33I know that I only have, like, a skirt made and there's no top, but I'm feeling very confident
14:38that I'm going to get everything I need to get done.
14:40All right.
14:41Bye.
14:42Bye.
14:43Okay.
14:44In 40 minutes, I can re-sew this entire thing.
14:48If I can just knock this top out in one hour, I will be fine.
14:52If this top takes me three hours, I'm triple .
14:56Erin, I can't wait to see your look.
14:58I think people are worried about whether or not I'm going to be done on time, but I think
15:02a lot and then I act.
15:04Designers!
15:05You don't have to go home, but you have to get the hell out of here.
15:09Time to go.
15:10We're done.
15:11Yay!
15:21I'm done.
15:22I'm so happy I'm done.
15:23I have to do some sewing still.
15:24We are going to be the four people that are going to make it to the top, so.
15:28Absolutely.
15:29I already know that.
15:30I really love my look, but you never know.
15:33It's the first time we're going to be facing the judges, so it could be very good or very bad.
15:40I'm really, really nervous.
15:41I'm really scared.
15:42I cannot go home on the first episode.
15:46If that happens, I think they'll just tell me to pieces.
15:49That ain't a dream of mine.
15:56Whoa!
15:57Time to work, everybody.
16:00I have tunnel vision.
16:01It's like you're drunk on the way home, and you're trying to get your key in the door,
16:04and you're just trying to get there.
16:05That's what it feels like.
16:06All I can see is that runway at the end.
16:08Good morning, everyone.
16:10Good morning.
16:11Good morning.
16:12All right, it's our first runway.
16:14How exciting is this?
16:17You will have two hours to send your models to the Mary Kay Color Design Studio,
16:22and to the Sally Beauty Studio.
16:24All right?
16:25Use the Just Fab accessories wall very thoughtfully.
16:30Okay?
16:32Bye, Tim.
16:33Erin, she's still gluing gumballs on, and we don't have that much time left.
16:39Bye.
16:40Hi, girl.
16:41Sorry, I'm, like, so short.
16:42I need, like, a step stool.
16:43I don't even know if we even have to lace it up.
16:44You're into it?
16:45Yes.
16:46It looks finished.
16:47I would not change anything.
16:48You know?
16:49It's not Tim's dress.
16:50It's mine.
16:51So you designed for a hip girl, huh?
16:52Mm-hmm.
16:53We have a collection, Runway Bold, that has all these sort of colors.
17:00Oh, that's beautiful.
17:02This looks so amazing on.
17:03It's called a gel semi-mat.
17:04I'll have you put it on.
17:05Look at that.
17:06Yeah, I like that.
17:07Yeah, I like that.
17:08I like it.
17:09I like it.
17:10I like it.
17:11I like it.
17:12I like it.
17:13I like it.
17:14I like it.
17:15I like it.
17:16I like it.
17:17I like it.
17:18I like it.
17:19I like it.
17:20I like it.
17:21I like it.
17:22I like it.
17:23I want deep, fuchsia, bright lip.
17:25Uh-huh, uh-huh.
17:26And then I would like the inside of the eye to look yellow if you have it, and then fade
17:29out into, like, the same fuchsia.
17:31Okay, we feel you.
17:36I would like her to have cotton candy hair, almost cloth-like.
17:41Maybe collapse down through the center so she gets kind of an expansion this way.
17:45Yeah.
17:46The outfit's kind of crazy, so I want to go very simple with the hair.
17:49Like a middle part, and then just like a nice simple bun in the back.
17:53Cool.
17:54Less is more.
17:55So I was thinking some sort of braid, maybe along the line right here.
18:00Okay.
18:01Like sort of a crown.
18:02We got it.
18:04I'm punishing.
18:05My heart is pounding.
18:06I'm hot.
18:07I'm cold.
18:08I'm nervous.
18:09Everyone's, like, stressed out.
18:10Designers, in ten minutes, you and your models and I are going down to the runway, all right?
18:22Yeah.
18:23Ten minutes, everyone.
18:25Rick, he's running around like a crazy man without a head on.
18:29And then turn towards me.
18:30Designers and models, we are going down to the runway for our first runway show.
18:41How exciting.
18:42All right.
18:43Let's go, go, go.
18:44It's the point of no return at this point.
18:48All right.
18:49Things are looking good.
18:50I made it.
18:51As long as I made it, I'm so happy.
18:54Hi, guys.
19:04Wow.
19:05I like this excitement already.
19:08Welcome to the runway.
19:09As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day, you're out.
19:13There are 16 of you here, and after tonight, there will be 15.
19:17Now, for the big prize.
19:20The winner of Project Runway will receive $100,000 to launch their line, a year's supply
19:26of Sally beauty products, along with $25,000 cash, travel and hotel accommodations to inspiring
19:33destinations around the world from Best Western Hotels and Resorts, and new Lexus IS from
19:41Mary Kay, an entire year's worth of beauty products for their fashion shows and professional
19:46makeup artist services for their debut show, a complete sewing and crafting studio from
19:51Brothers Sewing and Embroidery, and the winning designer and model will receive a fashion spread
19:57in Marie Claire magazine.
19:59All right.
20:00Let's say hello to our judges.
20:01First, we have creative director for Brooks Brothers Women and Fashion Designer, Zach Posen.
20:05Hi, designers.
20:07That's it.
20:08Creative director for Mary Claire magazine, Nina Garcia.
20:11Yeah.
20:12Awesome.
20:13And today's show co-anchor and Project Runway super fan.
20:18It's true.
20:19And expectant mother, Savannah Guthrie.
20:22Welcome.
20:24Also, we love having Tim Gunn here for the Runway Show.
20:29And as you know, he is your mentor and will not be judging your looks.
20:32We also have an anonymous runway show.
20:34No favorites here.
20:35Okay?
20:36Let's start the show.
20:37I think my model looks dope, sexy, confident.
20:47She's killing it.
20:49I'm like, yeah.
20:50Am I making an impression?
20:51I took backpacks and boas and created a three piece garment.
21:14And it's all hand painted.
21:16That looks like Picasso.
21:17It's cute.
21:21The light hits it.
21:32I think it is beautiful.
21:34I think it communicates when I want it to communicate.
21:36This is what the judges sort of want to see.
21:37They want to see variety.
21:38They want to see different points of views.
21:40I'm feeling very good about my piece in relation to everybody else's piece.
21:45I created a textile out of placemats and it just looks amazing.
21:58It has a great runway effect and the judges seem to enjoy it, so I'm happy.
22:04I feel like my garment definitely represents me as a designer.
22:12I do take a lot of risks and I hope that they keep me here so that I can give them 15 of the riskiest garments I've ever seen in Project Runway history.
22:19You did good, Dex.
22:20I feel extremely excited and I love the way that she walks.
22:32She is definitely working the runway.
22:34It's beautiful.
22:48It's got just enough sparkle.
22:50I mean, texturally, it's like very strong.
22:52I think the palette is amazing.
22:57Like, I could base a collection off of that dress.
23:07I'm loving the way she's walking out, the attitude she's giving.
23:10She's really working this outfit.
23:11She's working the little handbag that I made.
23:15She's really selling the type of girl that I designed for.
23:28I'm feeling so proud.
23:30Yellow is definitely one of those colors that's a hit or a miss color.
23:33And I'm feeling like I'm fending something bold down the runway.
23:42I want to eat your straps.
23:50Wow, she looks beautiful.
23:52She looks edgy.
23:53She looks innocent.
23:54Just fabulous.
23:57It looks really good.
24:00It looks really good.
24:13I'm speechless.
24:14She's gorgeous.
24:15She's killing it.
24:19This explains everything about me from head to toe.
24:27It looks beautiful.
24:28It looks beautiful.
24:29It looks beautiful.
24:30It looks beautiful.
24:35So yeah, it's scary.
24:36I didn't use much color.
24:37And the toe that I use is close to Muslim.
24:40So at this point, I'm just praying that I make it through the next round.
24:43I'm happy with my look.
24:56It looks cool.
24:57It looks crazy.
24:58It looks unconventional.
25:01This is either going to be on the bottom or on the top because I went all out for it.
25:12I'm hoping the judges see that I took the plates and cut them at angles so that it kind
25:17of reads as petals towards the flowers that are incorporated in the top piece because I love it.
25:24I really feel that my design represents me as a designer.
25:40It is what I wanted to create.
25:42It's quite an amazing experience.
25:45The model turns a corner and I about wet my basement because it looked stunning and my model was just shining.
26:00Now I'm extremely happy with what I put forward.
26:03I have to say this was a very, very exciting runway show.
26:15I mean, this was the best beginning that I've had in the five years that I've been on the show.
26:20And I love that we chose this unconventional challenge to start them off and really get their creative juices flowing.
26:26Okay, designers, we have just learned which designer created which look.
26:30If I call your name, please step forward.
26:33Robbery, Dexter, Tasha, Aaron, Ian, Brick.
26:45If I have not called your name, congratulations.
26:48Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next round.
26:51You can leave the runway.
26:58Oh my gosh.
27:00Alrighty.
27:01We did it.
27:02Neither the top nor the bottom.
27:03I'm fine.
27:04I have to say this is going to be one top season.
27:07It's going to be crazy.
27:08The six of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
27:11One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
27:15All right, I would like to start with you, Tasha.
27:22Tell us how this look represents you as a designer and about the materials that you used.
27:27I'm a designer for a sexy and street, loud, colorful, the urban girl.
27:32And for the bag I use the director's chair.
27:36Uh-huh.
27:37I use moods, reusable bags.
27:39I use Twizzlers, a pillowcase and backpacks that we had in the room as well.
27:45I have to say I love this look.
27:47I see a girl like this walking down the street right now and I would say, wow, she looks really cool.
27:52She just looks like an urban girl that you would see today.
27:55Great job.
27:57The look was very effective.
28:01Her clothes say I've got attitude.
28:03The shape of the pants, the proportion.
28:06This is you.
28:07Thank you so much.
28:08My favorite thing is that you made a bag with Tim and Heidi's names on it.
28:13I think the silhouette is really cool and you pulled it off.
28:17For us regular women, that's a tough one to wear, but she looks gorgeous.
28:21Mission accomplished.
28:22You did it.
28:23Thank you all so much.
28:24Rick, tell us about the materials that you used.
28:27So I ended up finding these big tubs of glitter.
28:31I started off and drafted a pant with a flare leg and I luckily collected all of these hats.
28:38Ah, that's what that is.
28:40So I wanted something that was structured and to show what I can do as a tailor.
28:45I have to tell you, she looks mismatched to me.
28:48On top she looks very futuristic and the bottom kind of looks retro disco.
28:53I mean it's like Lady Gaga on top, ABBA on the bottom.
28:57She's got many personalities.
28:58Got a lot.
28:59And Heidi.
29:00And Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farms.
29:01In the hills.
29:02Totally.
29:03Meets Star Wars, meets Studio 54.
29:05Erin, tell us about your look and who you are as a designer.
29:08So I love fun and just energy in my work.
29:11No.
29:12And this is actually the wig with like the netting in it.
29:20And these are gumballs and then this is more of the tracks that I just like trim to like
29:25look like fringe.
29:26Wow.
29:27This to me is a stand out look.
29:31I love the color.
29:32It shows me who you are.
29:33It shows me that you're about fun.
29:35But also you have great ideas and you make it slick and perfect looking.
29:41Just a complete explosion of color walking down the runway.
29:45I love that halter top.
29:47I think it's so pretty.
29:48It's so universally flattering.
29:51I think it looks beautiful.
29:54Dexter.
29:55Hi.
29:56Tell us about the materials that you used.
29:58I used this rug I found.
30:01And then these are different pillows that I broke apart and sewed together into different
30:06patterns.
30:07I kind of wanted to have that Alaskan mountain tribe like girls coming of age party.
30:12But I wanted to like keep it current with more of like a circle skirt.
30:15And I took little pieces of it and put it on the shoes because I thought the pop of color
30:19would really like help bring it all together.
30:21I definitely got Alaskan poodle.
30:25You know it had that Inuit tribe references and I'm happy that you had a story behind it.
30:31I like how you played with the pattern and it was effective when it went down the runway.
30:36But I think you can go even further.
30:39Good job.
30:41It was a runway piece.
30:43It had this incredible volume, which is really happening in fashion quite a lot.
30:49You used the rug and made it have volume and movement.
30:54It looks tribal and very chic.
30:58And then I love your little details.
31:00I love the fact that you put those bracelets into her ankle.
31:03I like this very much.
31:05Ian, tell us what materials you used for your look.
31:09I built a shift piece basically and used everything that I did to kind of try and give something that doesn't move movement.
31:17What I grabbed were those big screens, the printed photographs that were hanging up on the wall.
31:23I grabbed a couple of pillows that had like tassel detail which I really like.
31:27It's a little like my little pony scheme, which is kind of my thing.
31:31And I grabbed all of the Polaroids.
31:33I actually really love it.
31:34I think she looks fantastic.
31:35I did not love this dress.
31:38You just said it yourself.
31:40It's a basic shift dress.
31:42There's no magic for me in this dress.
31:45You didn't create something with the Polaroids.
31:48Like they look like, boom, boom, there's two Polaroids glued on.
31:51It's such a great challenge.
31:53The sky's the limit.
31:54You could go nuts with this and really show us something that sings and dances.
31:58And this, to me, doesn't really have any of that.
32:01I feel like you didn't use this opportunity.
32:05It was a risk going minimal.
32:07Just because, I mean, that is sort of true to who I am.
32:09I do not really work with a lot of volume because I don't like it, not because I can't.
32:14It just really fell short for me.
32:16And it also doesn't look that neat.
32:19You know, on the back, can she turn the model?
32:22You know, everything's symmetrical.
32:24But from her waist down, they start, you know, to kind of shift to the side.
32:28I actually thought the texture was very interesting.
32:32I thought those icy colors that you chose were very beautiful.
32:38Unfortunately, it doesn't feel like you were creative enough.
32:42I feel like you should have pushed yourself a little more.
32:45Roberi, tell us about your look.
32:47I wanted to work with the lanterns because I really felt the material were...
32:53very light.
32:54So, for me, it was very interesting to twist the shapes, swirl forms, very organic.
33:00And the fantasy of creating something cloud-like started taking shapes inspired by just movements in the clouds and sky.
33:11I have to say, when this came around the corner, I kind of gasped, but not in a good way.
33:17I don't know, I didn't like the colors together.
33:20I thought it was too short when she walked out.
33:23I didn't even really respond to it as fashion.
33:28I have seen this dress.
33:30And I've seen it in Project Runway many times with many different versions.
33:35There is no balance.
33:37It's all, like, up there.
33:38I know that you two didn't like it so much, but I actually really love this dress.
33:42We have seen pretty much everything already, and everything gets reinvented again, and everyone uses something from something else.
33:49This, though, we have not seen before.
33:52And it is the way you interlocked them that created this beautiful sculpture.
33:57I actually love the colors together.
33:59I love the silver, the white, the gold, and the blue.
34:02I also don't mind that it is short.
34:04Will you turn around?
34:05Can I see the back one more time?
34:06Let's do a little...
34:07I think it is really pretty.
34:09I mean, it does have some poetry to it.
34:11The way it just weaves and curls, and it leaves me wanting to see more of what you can do.
34:17I thought it was incredibly sensitive.
34:19I think it's actually beautifully done.
34:22Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
34:24We're going to have a little chat, and then I'm going to call you back.
34:27Hello, judges.
34:28Hi, Tim.
34:29What a wonderful kickoff challenge.
34:30Yes.
34:31I know.
34:32Hello, ladies.
34:33We couldn't have a better beginning.
34:34Alrighty.
34:35Okay, we have Kiki wearing Tasha.
34:36They look better on the runway than up close.
34:37It's very cool.
34:38You know, because they're just really hard to sew in.
34:39Tim, are these plastic mood bags?
34:40They're mood bags that she cut up.
34:41Wow.
34:42And these are Twizzlers.
34:43Yes.
34:44Yes.
34:45The best thing is, you know, I think it's really hard to sew.
34:46It's very cool.
34:47You know, because they're just really hard to sew in.
34:50Tim, are these plastic mood bags?
34:52They're mood bags that she cut up.
34:53Wow.
34:54And these are Twizzlers.
34:55Yes.
34:56Yes.
34:57The best thing is the vibe that it sends off.
34:59The attitude.
35:00Including the girl with the bag.
35:01How great.
35:02How fun.
35:03I need that bag.
35:04Director's chairs.
35:05My Tim and Heidi bag.
35:11And we have Sharika wearing Erin.
35:14Unbelievable.
35:15This is what I love.
35:17Wow.
35:18The mesh that she did right here.
35:20The wig mesh.
35:21I mean, how do you even cut those gumballs in half?
35:24Without cracking them.
35:25She didn't just use it as crazy down here again.
35:28Yeah.
35:29You know, she made it like so precise.
35:30It's balanced.
35:31It's balanced.
35:32And we have Stacy wearing Dexter.
35:36This too I thought was very cool.
35:38I think this guy has good taste.
35:41Down to the little detail of the bracelet and he did the shoe.
35:46The whole styling.
35:47The whole styling.
35:48He's got taste.
35:49That's what I'm saying.
35:50For sure.
35:51I loved it.
35:52I loved it too.
35:53Coming up, Pella's wearing Roberry.
35:57I've seen this dress, Tim Gun.
36:01But out of paper lanterns.
36:04This back is really, really good.
36:07It has poetry.
36:08It is beautiful.
36:09It looks like hair.
36:10I'm impressed.
36:11And I just want to underscore how incredibly complex this was to engineer correctly.
36:17And we have Anna wearing brick.
36:22Dance and queen.
36:23Oy vey.
36:24I mean really the only cool thing about this whole thing is really the shoulders.
36:29That was really cool and new.
36:31I mean you can say the pants fit nice on the booty.
36:33I mean I guess he can tailor a nice pair of pants.
36:36But then how can you not see that they're too short?
36:39It could have been a mistake.
36:40That's not even what worries me.
36:42It's the overall styling.
36:44It's very disjointed.
36:46Mixed match.
36:47So is this just muslin and then just the confetti on?
36:49Yeah, he just glued confetti on.
36:51I mean it's actually for me and you know, I don't know, maybe the sparkly person in me.
36:55I kind of, there's something fun in there.
36:56Oh yeah, I don't like the sparkles.
36:57I agree with you.
36:58There's a spirit.
36:59And we have Priscilla wearing Ian.
37:05I'm sad about this.
37:07So he went into a lot about like all the work that he did in here.
37:11So how did he do this?
37:12Was that the fringe around one of the pillows?
37:13I'm not altogether certain where they came from.
37:15To me this looks like you can buy this on a roll up mood.
37:20But you have to respect a designer that has a minimalist stance.
37:24I think he has good taste.
37:27Thank you very much judges.
37:30Anna and Kiki.
37:33Thank you all.
37:34Really today it's between Dexter and Aaron.
37:39Aaron was in a way more elegant.
37:41There was such balance in her work.
37:43Beautiful.
37:44Dexter in a way has more of a cooler vibe to it.
37:47He had a vision.
37:49It was effective.
37:50Yeah, we have not seen anything like this.
37:52He's very fashion forward.
37:54Let's talk about the designers that we did not like.
37:57Brick was the worst.
37:58To me Brick was more creative than Ian's.
38:02To me Ian's was more sophisticated than Brick's.
38:05Creative versus sophistication.
38:06That's where we are coming to here.
38:09Okay, so we've made our decision.
38:17Designers, one of you will be named the winner.
38:20And one of you will be out.
38:23Aaron.
38:28Congratulations.
38:29You are the winner of the first challenge.
38:32Thanks guys.
38:35Are you excited?
38:36It's a really good feeling.
38:38Yeah.
38:39And we all can't wait to see what you're going to do next.
38:42Congratulations.
38:43You can leave the runway.
38:45It is so wild being the first winner.
38:49There is no better way to start the season.
38:51She did it really fast.
38:52And then she just made it.
38:53What happened?
38:54Are you the winner?
38:55Like I was just like...
38:57Cool.
39:02Dexter, you're in.
39:04You can leave the runway.
39:05Thank you guys so much.
39:09Tasha, you did a great job.
39:11You're in.
39:12You can leave the runway.
39:13Thank y'all so much.
39:15Good luck.
39:19Robbery.
39:20You're in.
39:21You can leave the runway.
39:29Ian.
39:31Your dress was not our favorite.
39:34The final look was uninspiring and underwhelming.
39:39Rick.
39:40There was a really big disconnect to your look.
39:46It just did not come together.
39:53Rick.
39:57You're in.
40:00You can leave the runway.
40:01Thank y'all.
40:03Sorry buddy.
40:05I'm sorry buddy.
40:10Ian, I'm sorry that means you're out.
40:12It must be so hard being the first one.
40:14It's alright.
40:15I like the dress.
40:19We wish you the best of luck.
40:21Auf Wiedersehen.
40:24I love the dress.
40:27I can't say it enough.
40:29The people that I met are like a nice concession prize I guess.
40:34Oh you're here.
40:36Hey.
40:38It's all good.
40:39I loved it.
40:41So.
40:42If you're proud of it, then that's all that matters.
40:50I'm really proud that I stood up for myself in front of them.
40:53I mean, it's intimidating.
40:54It really is.
40:55But.
40:56I would be embarrassed of myself if I didn't stand up for myself and my work.
41:07Ian, we're gonna miss your spunk.
41:10Tremendously.
41:11I have to send you to the workroom to clean up your space.
41:13Sure.
41:14Okay?
41:15Yeah.
41:16Sure.
41:17It's been good guys.
41:18Kill it.
41:20It was an experience.
41:21That's for sure.
41:22I don't regret it for a second.
41:27My work was beautiful.
41:30And I'll swear by that till the day I die.
41:35Next time on Project Runway.
41:38Oh snap.
41:39Here comes this army of women.
41:41These women coming from the left, from the right, from the north side, south side.
41:44Oh wow.
41:46Whatever drama you guys have going, just like, I don't even want to be like a part of it.
41:50I'm trying to ignore Cornelius because he's always talking about someone.
41:54My skirt has a hole in it and I can't even pair it.
41:57This is not the time for this kind of bull .
42:00She looks great.
42:01That is my kind of girl.
42:02It looks shabby.
42:04It's like weird office wear.
42:05It's kind of sad.
42:07l have a lot of laws.
42:08booking rings
42:09Well, I'm not sure about it.
42:10It looks like a man and奇怪.
42:11She looks like a man.
42:12It looks like he's a turkey, but he's almost fucked.
42:13Maybe half it don't.
42:14It looks like 50 or 60 remote.
42:15butt's gone.
42:16I'm stupid notified on that, but now.
42:30buildings are cinq.
