00:01New York City. This is Fashion Week. Making it here takes more than talent.
00:07You need connections, clout, and cash. Until now.
00:13We send fashion experts to four cities to find the best undiscovered designers in America.
00:19The search began in Los Angeles at the Downtown Standard Hotel.
00:25If given the right fabrics, like, I can kick ass.
00:29You remind me of Todd Odom.
00:32Chicago was our next stop.
00:34I want a chance. I am the struggling artist. I am the underdog.
00:38Have you sold anywhere?
00:39Yeah, I've been selling stuff. I sell it out of my trunk.
00:42The search moved on to New York.
00:44It's edgy and nobody has done it.
00:46Who do you see wearing this besides yourself?
00:48Bjork.
00:49I think we're interested in seeing what you could do.
00:53Great. You won't be sorry.
00:55In Miami, the Fontainebleau Hilton was the end of the line.
00:58We want to go ahead and make you a finalist.
01:01Congratulations.
01:02I made it. I made it.
01:04A panel of judges met to discuss the finalists.
01:07Slinky, slinky.
01:08And narrowed it down to the 12 best.
01:11Project Runway offers these 12 unknown designers a chance to show America and the fashion world what they can do.
01:18Every week we'll give them a different challenge that will test their abilities to the limit.
01:22Help!
01:23And the top names in the industry will be judging them.
01:26This just feels unfinished.
01:28I look at the fur and right away I'm like, I'm in Prada land.
01:32One designer will be cut every week until three remain.
01:36Those three will show their line at Olympus Fashion Week.
01:39Then one winner will be chosen.
01:41The winner will receive a spread in Elle Magazine, a mentorship with the Banana Republic design team and $100,000 to start their own line.
01:50It's a head start that money just can't buy.
01:53Given to one designer who earns it where it counts.
01:56On the runway.
02:02This is a search for the next big fashion designer.
02:05It's a cutthroat business.
02:07The competition was fierce.
02:09Twelve contestants, three finalists and one winner.
02:13Three designers will make their runway debut at Olympus Fashion Week.
02:17I plan to make it to Fashion Week.
02:18I think I'll be number one.
02:19And the winner of Project Runway will receive everything they need to start their own label.
02:24I think I deserve to win.
02:25People are gonna start getting pretty bitchy.
02:27Oh my.
02:28For these twelve contestants, Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
02:41The heart of fashion is New York.
02:43You know, if you plan to become a fashion designer, here would be the place.
02:47I never compromise my art.
02:49I try to satisfy myself and nobody else.
02:55I just finished school at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.
03:00I was recognized for two years in a row in winning best collections.
03:04I've always had this love of clothes.
03:10I mean, as a child, it was just creating like these fairytale gowns, like playing dress-up.
03:16In high school, I definitely tried to fit in and be like a regular person.
03:21But no matter how much I tried, I still got completely teased.
03:24How are you doing?
03:25I'm Austin.
03:26Austin, Robert.
03:27Nice to meet you.
03:28Hi, Nora.
03:29Nora, how do you do?
03:30I worked in porn for an online sex website.
03:38Yes, I was making good money.
03:39But everything I did, everything I looked at, my couch, my table, my cat, my everything,
03:44was bought with dirty money.
03:46And I wanted to concentrate on designing again.
03:48My boss said, well, if you're such a great designer, well, why aren't you doing anything?
03:51And a week later, I quit and I was like, you know what, you're right.
03:54Do you believe these mother made me unload their luggage?
04:05Hello, everybody.
04:06Welcome.
04:07Hi.
04:08You're in New York, 12 of you, the cream of the crop.
04:12We looked at hundreds of people and you guys made it.
04:14So I want to welcome you guys to your new home.
04:17This is the Atlas New York apartment.
04:19You guys are going to be staying here for a while.
04:22Some longer than others.
04:27I'm going to give you guys your keys.
04:28And then later, I'm going to meet you at Parsons School of Design.
04:31All right.
04:32Let's go stuff.
04:33Let's go.
04:43Ever since I was a young girl, I always loved fashion.
04:46So I went to school for it and now I have my own line selling in different boutiques.
04:51People a lot of times underestimate me and how intelligent I am.
04:55I'm a costume designer.
04:57The thing I love about costume designing is designing for different artists.
05:01And Queen Latifah was one of them.
05:03On the movie set, people always say, why don't you have your line out there?
05:06So this has been like a dream of mine that I've always wanted to have my own line.
05:1128.
05:12Cheers.
05:13Cheers.
05:15Currently, I'm a lawyer in a prominent law firm.
05:18But I love fashion design.
05:20And it just, it makes me so happy to do it.
05:23The struggle is that I have so much to lose and so much invested in law already.
05:27But at the same time, I'd also like to be a really successful fashion designer.
05:32Hey, can you look after me?
05:33I'm so unhealthy.
05:34I'm the fattest one.
05:35I'm sharing my living space with Miss Venezuela, Audrey Hepburn and Miss Caribbean.
05:42So they're absolute babes.
05:44And then there's me.
05:45The past 10 years of my life have been completely dedicated to starting a small fashion design business based in Houston.
05:54It's been incredibly difficult.
05:56I definitely want my clothes to be more readily available throughout America.
06:04Oh my gosh.
06:06This place is fancy.
06:09See, I could have brought my daughter with me.
06:11I am married and I have a five-year-old daughter.
06:14I have a small business in a small town in Virginia.
06:18There is no way I would have access to the parts of the industry that Project Runway is going to afford me.
06:25I feel like because I am a mom, the kitchen is really important.
06:29If we get too stressed out and we don't eat correctly, like good food and healthy food,
06:35we're not going to produce what we know we can.
06:38Number one, we have to take care of each other.
06:40We have to have our core four that we watch out for.
06:43Because you cannot care about 11 other people.
06:46But you can care about three.
06:47We will, yes.
06:48Wendy's great.
06:49I like to call her mom because she treats us like we're her kids, which is great.
06:53I got into fashion through my mother.
06:56She owned a hair salon.
06:57And in front of me was, you know, basically fashion.
07:00My inspiration is basically cars, sports cars like a woman.
07:04Because, you know, they're both sleek, sexy and extremely dangerous.
07:08Here it is, people.
07:09Here it is.
07:10Looks great.
07:11I've been designing for 12 years.
07:20I got into it because it's a family business.
07:23My parents didn't want me to get into the fashion business because the apparel business is very tough.
07:29My goal is to be a great American designer.
07:32All right, can we establish something?
07:34Who smokes?
07:35Who doesn't?
07:36I don't smoke.
07:37You smoke?
07:38Who smokes?
07:39Fashion designers smoke.
07:40Didn't you get this newsletter?
07:41I didn't know that.
07:42Honestly.
07:43I'm from L.A.
07:44We just did ten.
07:45I want the world to see what I could offer to the fashion industry.
07:49In 1999, I launched my first collection.
07:53Actually, my first and only collection.
07:55But my father actually got two strokes.
07:59So, I had to basically take over the family business.
08:02It's a wedding chapel in Los Angeles, actually.
08:05The secret of life.
08:06Now, he's in excellent health.
08:08And I'm able now to follow my bliss again this year.
08:11What time did Heidi say we had to meet her?
08:13I don't know.
08:14I was just staring at her face the whole time.
08:16I'm kidding.
08:27We are at Parsons School of Design.
08:30This will be your working space.
08:32This is Tim Gunn.
08:34He's the head of the fashion program here.
08:37He will take care of you.
08:38But he will not solve your problems.
08:40Welcome, everyone.
08:41I'm very proud to have you here at Parsons.
08:43You will be working in the shadow of many illustrious alumni,
08:46including Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez, Tom Ford.
08:51Some of you, certainly one of you, will be joining that distinguished company
08:55at the end of the challenges of Project Runway.
08:58So, welcome.
08:59We're thrilled to have you here.
09:00Let's have a look.
09:01This is where the magic happens.
09:06The fact that it's just been held at Parsons is huge.
09:10And you do think your name could be listed next to all the great designers that have come from here.
09:16Okay, everyone.
09:17This is your workspace.
09:19Over here, you'll find the Banana Republic accessories wall.
09:22And in the corner are bolts of cotton, the official fabric of Project Runway.
09:27Okay, let's go downstairs.
09:28Let's see the runway.
09:29Let's take a look where your fate will be decided.
09:40Designers, this is where the judging and elimination will take place.
09:45The first challenge is about innovation.
09:48And we will judge you on that.
09:50I want you to design a sexy, glamorous dress for a night out in town.
09:57Tim will take you to a store where all the famous designers go.
10:01And you cannot start work on this challenge until your shopping trip tomorrow.
10:06This is where your garments will be shown off.
10:11And they will be shown off by beautiful models.
10:14Models are very crucial because a model can make or break your outfit.
10:20So let's bring out the models.
10:24Alison, Audrey, Aaron.
10:29The models, you know, sell the dress.
10:31You know, you need a girl who is as passionate about winning as you are.
10:41I will choose your names randomly and then you can choose your model.
10:47Austin.
10:48Olga.
10:50Robert.
10:51I pick Melissa.
10:54Alexandra.
10:55Julia.
10:56I picked my model, Julia, because she's the tallest and I think the taller the better.
11:01Vanessa.
11:03I choose Joy.
11:04Joy it is.
11:06Mario.
11:07Aaron.
11:09Kara.
11:12Morgan.
11:15Next one is Kevin.
11:16Martinique.
11:20Daniel.
11:21Mary.
11:22You're hired.
11:23Wendy.
11:24Heidi.
11:25Yes.
11:26I choose Josiane.
11:27Okay.
11:28I think I know who I choose.
11:29You're a star.
11:30Thanks.
11:32I had a couple of first choices, but Audrey, she's a gorgeous girl and I think she's going
11:36to look really great.
11:37You will have the chance to see our models very soon again.
11:38And that will be tonight because I'm going to host a little party for you guys tonight.
11:49I thought it was a good idea to start it off nice.
11:50Yeah.
11:51So you guys can relax a little bit tonight and have some fun because from now on it will
11:54get tough.
11:55get tough.
11:56get tough.
11:57get tough.
11:58get tough.
11:59get tough.
12:00get tough.
12:01get tough.
12:02You have the most gorgeous hair.
12:03Boy, look at you.
12:04All the models were there.
12:12You have the most gorgeous hair, boy look at you.
12:29All the models were there and it was really all of the designers first chance to really
12:34interact with the models that they'd chosen.
12:36We worked with Queen Latifah and Eve, I got the low down on you guys.
12:44I can't wait till the bitch moments start coming out, it's gonna be my favorite to be
12:47like, bitch just lost her mind.
12:50Bitch is crazy.
12:52The models, they're just all breathtaking to me, I think they're all really beautiful
12:55girls.
12:56Especially Olga.
12:57That chick is like sex on legs, she's hot.
12:59The designers want to see the girls walk, so yeah, why don't we?
13:04All I care about is taking this prize home.
13:21I mean, the other contestants, I love to chum it up with all of them, you know, and stay
13:26laughing with them all the time, but I felt that that was gonna distract me.
13:30Daniel is not too social.
13:32He's pretty calculated, I think, as far as why he's here.
13:39Go Heidi.
13:40Go Heidi.
13:41Go Heidi.
13:42Go Heidi.

14:21Go.
14:22Have you ever been to any fabric stores up here?
14:27This is our destination.
14:33The supermarkets?
14:35Indeed.
14:36We show up at this grocery store, and for the first time, I felt fear.
14:42I thought we were going to be at this amazing fabric store with all these couture fabrics.
14:47Welcome to Gristini's, the site of your first challenge.
14:50In Heidi's words yesterday, this challenge is about creating a glamorous outfit for evening, and these are your supplies.
15:02Everything that you will use to design and fabricate this challenge must be purchased here.
15:08We're not making any other stops.
15:10This is why we're calling this challenge innovation.
15:13You must innovate.
15:15So be as unconventional as you can be in your thinking, and make it work here.
15:19You will each have $50 in this envelope, and you will have one hour.
15:24Okay, show us what you've got.
15:26I shop every day of my life.
15:28I've never approached a grocery store with fear.
15:30I don't know what to do.
15:32It's crazy, though.
15:33I went off around the supermarket with an open mind, ruling out the obvious.
15:46No melons or anything that might go soggy.
15:49Why do they make, like, home interior stuff in the colors?
15:55I'm done.
15:56This is what I'm getting.
15:57This is all I need.
15:58Maybe if I have money left over, I'll get some extra of this, just in case.
16:01But, um, yeah.
16:02I already have the whole thing planned out.
16:04What's the Q-tips for?
16:06Um, for me.
16:07I didn't bring any.
16:13I believe that all these materials have their own beautiful, spiritual quality.
16:18So he says, what are we getting?
16:20Two.
16:24Do you have any ribbon?
16:25I took every last drop of ribbon.
16:29I know some other people are looking for it, but I just took everything.
16:36My main ingredient are the corn husks, which, if you think about it, is really, like, nature's
16:42fabric because it's, like, a fiber.
16:44It even has, like, a weft and a warp to it, almost.
16:49I saw this lounge chair up there, and I said, oh, my God.
16:52That blue lounge chair is freaking fabulous.
16:56How much are these a piece?
16:57Do you know?
16:58What do I mean?
17:00I got some silver, sparkly paper, and I was like, oh, that's awesome.
17:03I can totally use that.
17:04And then I started looking around for things that would kind of coordinate with it.
17:10Project Runway, you have five minutes.
17:14Attention, runway shoppers.
17:17I'm having them right now.
17:19Project Runway.
17:21This is it.
17:22Check out.
17:24You have 50 for feet.
17:2850 cents.
17:29I need 50 cents.
17:31Can I break this in half and then pay for half of it?
17:34I'm a serious designer, and I like serious challenges.
17:38This design project, I feel it's going to be no sweat.
17:40Designers, you have from now until midnight tonight.
17:51Tomorrow, you'll have a few hours before the runway judging.
17:55Innovate and go for it, okay?
17:57Okay, my fish is getting stinky.
18:00Do you have a freezer here?
18:02Is it going to?
18:03Yes, I got fish.
18:07I grabbed a bunch of brown pantyhose and brown socks, and I'm going to do a really pretty dress.
18:17I picked some interesting things.
18:18I'm going to pick mop heads, which I'm going to plan to make like a hula skirt.
18:22Then I bought falafel bread to make like a corset top.
18:26I was basically freaking out.
18:27I'm like, oh no.
18:28What am I going to do?
18:29I have nothing but like this corn husk and like a potato chip bag.
18:32This is the very first competition.
18:34I'm going to like screw it for myself.
18:37My idea was to make this carnival thing.
18:40I'm really using extremely bizarre materials.
18:43I don't know how I'm actually going to make it.
18:51There.
18:52Done.
18:56Mario, shower curtain.
18:58And I'm done.
19:00I'm done already.
19:01I just like draped it around, like tied it together and that's it.
19:04It's like whatever.
19:06Come on, you have a long time still.
19:08Mario is a rebel here.
19:09He's just, I don't care, I'm doing this.
19:11I'm going to wrap the fabric.
19:14We were all working.
19:15Mario is like sitting on the table, sleeping, taking cigarette breaks.
19:19He doesn't care.
19:20That's his style.
19:22He's very amateurish with no true direction and no sense of purpose or style.
19:28Is Mario smarter than me because he bought a shower curtain and he made it in 15 minutes?
19:32Or is he looking for the easy way out?
19:36What is wrong with you?
19:41Don't try this at home, folks.
19:43It takes trained professionals to take one inch strips of tin foil and bind a jacket.
19:51Daniel's approach is so like Bob Barker.
19:55What do we have next?
19:56We have a fashion challenge and it's going to be great.
19:58Like it makes me like want to leave the room.
20:05So what's going on with your design?
20:07Creatively I'm fine.
20:09But mentally man.
20:11Are you feeling the cut throat-ness of it in there?
20:15Yeah.
20:19It's not pushing through because it's not fabric.
20:21I've been like tugging it through.
20:29Half the day I've been spent fussing with this weaving.
20:31I know I'm a good designer and I can do it, but am I an idiot for picking these like corn husks?
20:38Now to keep that together, are you just going to use like clear tape on one side?
20:41I might just totally redo this.
20:43Austin.
20:44No, Austin, you just spent hours on it.
20:46I know, but it doesn't look good.
20:47Okay, you know why?
20:48You just don't like it right now because look, you have so much around it and it's not clean.
20:52Yeah, but first of all I'd have to like weave an even bigger piece to make a whole bodice.
20:57I do tend to like get myself into these like over elaborate projects and end up like, you know, screwing myself in the end.
21:18We were given a challenge to make a sexy outfit for a night on the town.
21:23I used butcher paper for the jacket, but it was a great color.
21:26It reminded me of a suede or even like a taffeta.
21:30I felt that it was stylish compared to Star.
21:33I don't think that she has enough experience as a designer to realize that you need style.
21:40I'm really terrified that I'm going to be the one to go home just because my dress is really gaudy and I'm feeling like it's pretty disgusting.
21:49How is everyone? I came back.
21:55How are you doing?
21:58Good.
22:00What's happening with the bustle on?
22:02Um, well, right here it's going to be painted.
22:07Oh.
22:09But that's why I got this.
22:10On the model?
22:11Yes.
22:12Okay.
22:13Does she know?
22:14No.
22:16What's going on, Vanessa?
22:17I got so excited about putting all this black stuff everywhere that I kind of lost the shape.
22:24Does it need to be full length?
22:25No, but I've just, I've done all this work on it.
22:28I know, but sometimes you have to let it go.
22:32My heart just started thudding.
22:35I really just didn't want to look stupid on the runway.
22:38Maybe I'll make some little flowers or something.
22:41You just have a lot of work to do.
22:43I know, go on, go and see the next person and let me finish.
22:45Okay.
22:48Daniel, okay, you've made great progress.
22:50Thank you, Tim.
22:52Great progress.
22:53I'm imbuing the spirits of Picasso and Marcel Duchamp.
22:58My theory is that anyone can be elegant at any time if they just apply themselves.
23:02And basically applying themselves means to stop thinking, find the purity in the design and the garment.
23:08This is seduction about Daniel.
23:10When you're within about three feet of him, you get into his orbit and you believe.
23:14But then when you step back, you look at what he's done, you ask yourself, what is that?
23:19Is this looking too much like butcher paper?
23:21It is butcher paper.
23:23It can't be helped.
23:24So I hate to cut this short, Tim, but I got to get back to it.
23:28Thank you so much.
23:29All right.
23:30I love how Daniel just brushed Tim off saying that, listen, Tim, I got to get back to work,
23:34man.
23:35You know, I'm sorry.
23:36You know, you wasted my time.
23:38Tim was leaving kind of like scratching his head.
23:40Like what just happened?
23:41I mean, I think he was moving.
23:42He was in shock himself too.
23:44All right.
23:45Everyone just one last thing at midnight and everybody out.
23:56Good night.
23:57Thanks.
24:06I am feeling the race against time now.
24:08Yes.
24:16It's definitely meant to be a placemat and not a garment.
24:27Luckily, tomorrow we have a couple hours, which is, I think, just the amount of time I'll need to pull it all together.
24:37Oh, what a night.
24:45Since I've been here, I've had this opportunity to just really think about what I'm doing with my life.
24:58I mean, I certainly have a lot of abilities as a lawyer, but I'm learning so much and really would like to stay as long as possible.
25:04I've been seeing stars, but people have been saying she's going to be okay. I don't know.
25:14I know someone's going home today.
25:17It makes me very, very sad.
25:20Notice how I'm wearing all black?
25:23Yeah.
25:25Today is the D-Day.
25:26I know.
25:27Today is the funeral.
25:28We'll be going home in a garment bag.
25:32Today.
25:33Not us.
25:37Okay, everyone.
25:38We have exactly two hours to achieve a lot.
25:41We're going to be bringing your models in.
25:44You're going to be doing a fitting with the model.
25:46And then you're going to be tweaking and refining and doing whatever you need to do to your garment.
25:51Your models will go to the L'Oreal hair and makeup rooms to get prepped for the show.
25:55Okay.
25:57Great.
25:58Make it work.
26:04The morning of was pretty hectic.
26:07Everybody's running around doing their own thing.
26:09It's a lot of pressure.
26:12I'm not going home today.
26:13You want to go home?
26:14No.
26:15You don't want to go home, do you?
26:16We ain't going home.
26:18Austin having not refrigerated this produce, the corn husks had shrunk.
26:23They were now corn chips.
26:25At least there isn't any additional shrinkage.
26:32I was definitely worried.
26:35I had a lot of things to work out.
26:38I just didn't know how I was going to finish it.
26:41How are you feeling?
26:43That feels fine, yeah.
26:45It's coming.
26:47It's coming.
26:48It's coming.
26:50Everybody's been working with their models for about half an hour now.
26:53And my model's not here.
26:56She's being hand painted, so I need time to do the hand painting.
26:59I was really worried because I didn't know if I was going to have a model.
27:05If she doesn't come, that would be the most ingenious thing to do.
27:08Yeah, yeah.
27:09Take a girl.
27:11Go for it.
27:12I'll be back.
27:13I didn't know if I was going to have a model.
27:29You know, they were trying to call Morgan.
27:31They just couldn't reach her.
27:34I don't know really what I'm doing.
27:37That'd be cute.
27:40Excuse me.
27:41Have you ever thought of modeling?
27:43No, I haven't.
27:48Heidi Klum's going to be there.
27:49Do you know who Heidi Klum is?
27:50The supermodel?
27:51Yeah, I do.
27:54What do you think?
27:55No.
27:56Okay.
27:57Um, my mother is out of town and she usually wakes me up.
28:10Morgan?
28:11Yeah.
28:12This is really bad.
28:13I know.
28:14Really bad.
28:15And poor Kara has crashed and burned.
28:17She's out on the street literally looking for a model.
28:23Come here.
28:24Come here.
28:29Morgan arrived.
28:30Okay.
28:32My agency just dropped me.
28:35Why?
28:36Because you're late?
28:42Morgan?
28:45I'm so sorry, Kara.
28:47Everything's going to be fine.
28:48Let's get you some coffee.
28:49Let's get you cleaned up.
28:50Morgan?
28:51Sweet girl.
28:52But it's tragic.
29:00It's not what I envisioned.
29:01It's much better.
29:02I think it's a killer dress.
29:08He's nice.
29:09He has an endearing story.
29:10But damn it.
29:11He is playing to the camera stuff and kissing ass.
29:15It's like, he should be kissing our asses.
29:18Now, um...
29:21Which one?
29:29All right, everybody.
29:30Here we go.
29:31Let's do it.
29:32Let's do it.
29:39Welcome to the runway, where your first challenge will be judged.
29:45Everyone knows that the fashion business is ruthless.
29:49One day you're in, and the next day you're out.
29:53Today one designer will be selected as the winner of this challenge.
29:57And one of you will be out.
29:59This week's challenge was about innovation.
30:05And we will judge you on your use of unconventional materials.
30:10Now, let's meet the judges.
30:12We have Michael Kors, who's one of the most influential designers in America.
30:18Nina Garcia is the fashion director for the top-selling Elle magazine.
30:24Our guest judge for today is Patricia Field.
30:30We all know her from dressing the beautiful girls on Sex and the City.
30:34We will be scoring your designs as they come down the runway.
30:38Let's start the show.
30:39Let's start the show.
30:40Let's start the show.
30:41Let's start the show.
30:42Let's do it.
30:43My corn dress started to shrivel and dry up, and it didn't look very good.
31:11I am nervous that I may be eliminated.
31:22The stakes for me are huge because if I do well, I am going to have a better chance of
31:27realizing my dream of being a real fashion designer who can really deliver the goods on
31:34all levels.
31:39I actually didn't watch the judges when my model walks, so I have no idea how they responded
31:47to it.
31:48I didn't have any confidence in myself or in my design.
31:53If these people remotely have an eye for creativity, then they won't eliminate me.
32:01I didn't have any confidence in myself or in my design.
32:10When it comes down to it, it's who can walk the best.
32:23And Morgan can walk, regardless if she's late or tragic or whatever's going on in life.
32:40She can walk.
33:01I'm not out to flash the judges.
33:06I want to wow them with great concept, design.
33:10You know, not like glitter on the runway.
33:19I had innovation in the cut of the jacket.
33:22I had innovation in tailoring the butcher paper.
33:25I know the designs of Michael Kors.
33:27I read L Magazine a lot.
33:28I know what they're looking for.
33:50I feel really confident with the dress.
33:54It's a look that I wanted to go for.
33:57And seriously, I don't care if I get eliminated.
34:00I don't compromise my art.
34:03I want to ask all 12 designers to please come on stage.
34:28We've tallied your scores.
34:30If I say your name, I want you to please step forward.
34:36Kevin.
34:40Alexandra.
34:44Mario.
34:47Jay.
34:50Kara.
34:53And Robert.
34:58They're looking up at you and you have no idea how they voted.
35:02And it is excruciating.
35:04I had a prediction of who I thought was going to go.
35:07So I was in that group and I'm like, ah, .
35:11None of you are out.
35:13Your scores have qualified you to stay in for the next challenge.
35:17You may leave the runway.
35:19When they said, you know, you're safe for the next round, you couldn't see it, but I just wanted to jump off the stage and say, you know, just scream.
35:29The six of you that remain had the highest and the lowest scores.
35:36We will ask you questions on your designs.
35:39The judges will deliberate and one of you will be named the winner.
35:43The winner will have immunity for the next challenge and cannot be eliminated next week.
35:49And one of you will be out.
35:56I'm just so nervous I can't even think.
35:59There I was, probably in the three of the worst category.
36:04Just the thought of being the first ones at home really was horrible.
36:15The six of you represent the best and the worst.
36:20Let's bring back your models.
36:27Patricia, do you want to start?
36:29Austin, you know, you're a corn dress.
36:32Did you boil the corn leaves and sculpt them from a soft condition?
36:37Basically, I shucked all the fresh corn and I put it together fresh.
36:43It dried out.
36:45I'm hoping, I'm praying, the judges will take into consideration that I use something organic.
36:53Wendy, what were you thinking? Because I see very little clothes.
36:58Um, I met my model and she said she was from Brazil.
37:05Alright, I get it. So you are going to Rio.
37:07I just wish I would have seen more clothes.
37:13Vanessa, I wanted to ask you about your inspiration.
37:17My inspiration was Cajun, but it doesn't look very Cajun.
37:19Because it's supposed to have, uh, mini lobsters.
37:22What are they called?
37:23Crawfish.
37:24Crawfish, right.
37:25And they were going to be trapped in the net, but it really didn't need them.
37:29So, do you wear black a lot?
37:30I love black.
37:31Yeah?
37:32All women love black.
37:33You know, even though I'm sitting here wearing black, you're wearing black, I would have loved to have seen more color.
37:37Somehow, the crawfish, I have a feeling, would have not smelled fabulously, but they really would have done something.
37:44Daniel, can we see what is underneath the dress?
37:47Please, dear.
37:49This jacket, I made a pattern first, because I only had a limited amount of this butcher paper, which I got for free from the store.
37:56And it took me a long time to make this binding, which is a tin foil.
38:01And, uh, I tried to give it the best treatment that I could for the amount of time that we had.
38:06Nora, I think you did an amazing job.
38:09I think it's interesting, it's innovative, and at the same time, it's actually kind of wearable.
38:17Yeah, I think it's great. I think it's really, it's terrific.
38:20We have not heard so much about your star. Do you want to explain a little bit what you were thinking?
38:25My initial inspiration was an ironing board cover, um, which is this part here, and I liked the color.
38:34And then, I really like this wrapping paper, especially when it's crinkled.
38:39Um, I don't really know how wearable it is.
38:44I want to ask all the designers and models to please leave the stage.
38:49I'm going to have a little chat with my judges. Thank you.
39:00What's the worst thing? What are you worried about the most?
39:02Going home.
39:03Going home.
39:04Okay.
39:05You're not going to go home.
39:07A lot of them, they started adding things onto things onto things. It was like one of these...
39:16Yeah, rather than one concept.
39:17Exactly.
39:18The bikini, the candy, there were no clothes.
39:21There was no clothes.
39:22That's my pet peeve. There are no clothes.
39:24But it was happy.
39:25When I got to Daniel, I was just like, oh my God. Like garbage bag couture again.
39:30It was like, what's the easiest thing and boring thing I could do?
39:33I didn't like stars either. I think it was like totally expected. Get some tin foil.
39:37Tin foil and make a party dress.
39:39It's like the garbage bag dress.
39:56In fashion, it's all about what's in and what's out.
40:00And we have made our decision.
40:05Vanessa, you're in.
40:08You can leave the runway.
40:14Nora, you're in.
40:24Wendy, you're in.
40:25You can leave the runway.
40:30There are three of you left.
40:35One of you will be the winner.
40:37And one of you will be out.
40:45But the winner is Austin.
40:48To choose corn husks, show true innovation.
40:55Thank you all. Thank you very, very much.
40:57Austin, that means that you're safe for the next challenge.
41:02It was really wonderful.
41:03Probably, you know, one of my most wonderful moments of my life.
41:07You can leave the runway.
41:10Daniel and Star.
41:24One of you must go.
41:29Daniel, we felt you didn't challenge yourself enough.
41:32Your choice of materials and design were far too simple.
41:37Star.
41:39You weren't innovative enough with your materials or design.
41:43You need to show us a better concept.
41:47Star.
41:51You are still in.
41:52But you just barely made it.
41:57You can leave the runway.
41:59And that means Daniel is out.
42:02And that means Daniel is out.
42:11Auf Wiedersehen.
42:13Good luck.
42:15Bye.
42:18I'm pretty, pretty shocked.
42:20Didn't expect that.
42:21He's very nice.
42:26Wish you the very best.
42:28You too.
42:33Oh well.
42:35I was disappointed.
42:37But if you believe in theatrics, then there are a lot of designers for you to choose from.
42:41However, you know, if you believe in honor, dignity, integrity, if you believe in artistic credence, and if you believe in artistic honesty, and if you believe in following your bliss, then I'm Daniel Franco, and I'd like to wish you bliss.
