27:31And the first time I found out my baby was doing drag was I opened up the closet.
27:35It smells kind of rank for no reason.
27:38Because Saphira had been wearing it.
27:40And didn't take it to the dry cleaners.
27:46Left my dress in the closet funky.

28:49behind Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, Cassandra Peterson!

29:05Like all pop culture icons,
29:07Cassandra was born in Manhattan, Kansas, a tiny farm town.
29:12As a young girl, she was in an accident
29:14that left her badly burned.
29:15Cassandra's scars made her feel like an outcast.
29:18She found comfort in monsters like Frankenstein
29:21and became obsessed with horror films.
29:24By 14, the blossoming entertainer was working
29:27as a go-go dancer at a gay club called The Purple Cow.
29:30Cassandra credits the drag queens at the club
29:32with teaching her how to walk, how to dress,
29:34and how to do, well, just about everything.
29:38By age 17, she was a Las Vegas showgirl,
29:41performing in the wildly popular revue Vive La Girls
29:44on a fateful date with Elvis Presley.
29:47He convinced Cassandra to pursue a singing career,
29:50and she did, touring Europe as the lead singer
29:53of the band E-Latins 80.
29:55Cassandra even landed a small role in the James Bond film,
29:59Diamonds Are Forever.
30:01But still, she struggled to find meaningful work.
30:04Her luck started to turn around
30:06when she joined the world-famous Groundlings,
30:08working alongside soon-to-be comedy legend, Paul Rubens.
30:12Then, an audition to be the hostess
30:15of a late-night horror movie show
30:17would change her life forever.
30:19Tapping into her drag roots,
30:21she donned a black bouffant wig, blood-red lips,
30:24and a form-fitting gown with a plunging neckline.
