00:00Previously on The Apprentice, Excel picked a member of Capital Edge to even out the teams.
00:05We would like to bring back to Team Excel Randall.
00:08The candidates had to design and teach a class for the learning animals.
00:12At Capital Edge, Mark has rambled on and added little value.
00:17None of us have enough time.
00:19It's easy to say, gee, time is what it is, and it is what meaning you give it.
00:24I don't think any of us have a grasp on what you're talking about.
00:28Excel's project manager, Randall, picked a practical topic.
00:32The topic for this class is standing out.
00:34How do you take the characteristics that are endemic to you and let that light shine and amplify it?
00:38While Capital Edge's class was far from educational.
00:42Sex at work.
00:44Just speaking about first dates, you know what's great about dinner is that you have great conversation,
00:50and I also have to be willing to spend the money.
00:52But remember, he's the shy, tight Jewish boy.
00:58So, yeah.
01:00Capital Edge's presentation was a total disaster.
01:03Sending them to the boardroom.
01:06So why did you lose?
01:08It came down to presentation.
01:09Who made the bad presentation?
01:11Clay. He made a comment calling me a tight-ass Jew in front of the audience.
01:16I did not say it like that, mister. I did not say it like that.
01:18Yes, you did.
01:19Okay, enough.
01:20Adam.
01:21Yes, sir.
01:21You have a choice of bringing two people back to the boardroom.
01:23Yes, sir.
01:24Who's it going to be?
01:25Clay and Marcus.
01:26Okay, good.
01:29If Clay comes back, he's going to be so vindictive.
01:32I know he is.
01:33It's war.
01:34I know.
01:35Seriously.
01:36Adam, Clay, and Marcus are in the boardroom right now.
01:39If Clay comes back, it's going to be very, very difficult.
01:42Clay is in for Clay.
01:44Clay made that Jewish comment that, from a personal level, I accepted his apology,
01:49and I really don't believe that he's anti-Semitic in any way, shape, or form.
01:52That's a big statement that you're making.
01:53Right now, that's a big statement.
01:55That you don't believe he's anti-Semitic.
01:56I do not believe he's anti-Semitic.
01:58Marcus, what did you do on this task?
02:02Where do I begin?
02:06You're not speaking very well to me.
02:08No, I'm not. I'm not.
02:09The problems we've got with Marcus not getting to the point are the big reason to say,
02:14Marcus, you're fired.
02:20Don't talk to me.
02:26Don't talk to me.
02:31You should have seen how proud he is when he walked in looking at us like,
02:34deal with me, whatever.
02:36We're going to have to.
02:37Oh, yeah.
02:39Right now, I'm not happy with our team.
02:41When you call me out and lie to me and say that I said something vindictively when I did not,
02:47when you try to turn that around on me and say that I was the reason for losing your task,
02:51I'm going after you.
02:53Hey, Mr. Adam. Welcome back.
02:56Good job.
02:57Good to see you guys.
02:58Excellent job, Adam.
02:59We want to debrief.
03:00Let's definitely do that.
03:01You want to do it? Let's do it. Okay.
03:02Do we want to grab Clay?
03:03No.
03:04I wanted Clay to go home during the last boardroom.
03:07Clay is the type of person that you believe would take down the team
03:10and actually sabotage the team at the risk of losing just to get back at others.
03:13That's Clay.
03:14Tell us everything that happened.
03:15Basically, at the end of the day, Marcus got fired, but I put my hand to shake Clay's hand just to say,
03:20you know, because we need to come together as a team and he wouldn't shake my hand.
03:23He's not. You should have seen the look. He gave me the look of death.
03:26He opened the door and just slammed it.
03:28That's going to be from now on.
03:29I mean, he's definitely upset, and I think—
03:31No, he's not. He doesn't just get upset. He is vindictive.
03:35And you know he's going to try to do everything to just, like,
03:37you're going to walk, he's going to put his foot in front of you so you trip.
03:40I can tell you this. He's going to be on our team either way.
03:42He doesn't care anymore.
03:43That's the thing, you guys.
03:44We've got one person on our team who doesn't care when to lose.
03:46This is vindictive, personal.
03:48Everything we say, he's going to contradict.
03:50I mean, it's going to be hell.
03:53It's going to be hell.
04:24Dollar bills, y'all.
04:26Come on.
04:54Morning. Morning, morning, morning, morning.
04:59Morning.
05:11Hello?
05:12Hi, good morning. It's Rona.
05:13Mr. Trump wants to see you in the boardroom at 8 a.m., and don't be late.
05:16He's got a very busy morning.
05:23Okay.
05:48Okay.
05:49Welcome to week 8 of your 13-week job interview.
05:54As you see, Bill will be replacing George this week,
05:56and Bill's always very exciting, and he's been doing a wonderful job.
06:00Okay, play the tape.
06:19Okay.
06:35That was probably the most successful movie franchise of all time, Star Wars.
06:40It's been a cultural phenomenon for nearly 30 years.
06:43It spawned books, video games, action figures, you name it.
06:47It's grossed over $13 billion in sales in terms of retail, movie, and everything else.
06:53So that's an incredible franchise.
06:56So, for your next task, you'll create an in-store, interactive retail display
07:03to feature the DVD of Star Wars Episode III, Revenge of the Sith,
07:09as well as the video game Battlefront II.
07:13You'll then construct your display in a Best Buy store where DVDs can be purchased.
07:19You'll have access to Lucasfilm's graphic designers, photographers, and structural engineers.
07:25The one that does the best display, as judged by executives from Best Buy and Lucasfilm, wins.
07:33The losers, as usual, will see you in the boardroom, where somebody will be fired.
07:39Randall, since you're the winning project manager from last week,
07:43and your team voted for your exemption, you will not be fired.
07:47Sir.
07:48Good luck, and may the force be with you.
07:52Go. Have fun.
08:00Can we discuss the PM and all that stuff?
08:03I think after the way that I was treated yesterday, I deserve this, and I want this.
08:08We didn't actually pick our PM. Our PM picked himself.
08:11None of us really wanted Clay to be PM,
08:13because Clay has some very bitter feelings towards the team after the last boardroom.
08:17The three of you want me off your team, no matter what. I have that feeling.
08:20That's not true at all.
08:21That's what you said.
08:22First of all, regardless of what happened, we're a team today.
08:24Well, we're trying to do that. I'm trying to get to learn to trust you again,
08:29because right now I don't trust any of you.
08:31Okay, do we want to be led by someone who doesn't trust anybody on their team?
08:33Right. I think so.
08:34Why?
08:35I think so, because I'm going to work harder than anybody else to win this.
08:37I want to be PM in our next task, because if I'm in charge and they don't listen to me,
08:41and we do wind up in the boardroom, it's very easy for me to say,
08:44hey, I made a good decision, and this person totally disobeyed everything I said.
08:49Is there anybody else that really feels that they want to be PM on this task?
08:52I personally do not want to be PM on this task.
08:55The only thing I ask is that you treat us with respect.
08:59The fact of the matter is—
09:00Are we okay?
09:01If I could get rid of anybody right now, it'd be Ola.
09:04My master plan is to try to get rid of the strong players as fast as possible,
09:08but I also want them on my team to win, because I don't want to lose.
09:11I will give you not 100%, 200% on this task.
09:14That's all I ask for.
09:15That's all.
09:16Good luck.
09:17You're on it.
09:18Welcome.
09:19So, I just want to ask, who here has seen that movie?
09:21I've seen all of them.
09:22I was a Star Wars junkie as a kid.
09:24I mean, I definitely had the toys, I had the collector's cups and mugs,
09:28I had the little action figures.
09:30Sith is the third episode of the sixth movie series.
09:34Got it.
09:35So, we don't need to know anything about this movie particularly?
09:37Well, it does not hurt to have some knowledge of the movie.
09:40We were making a decision of who was going to become project manager.
09:43Reynold's like a total Star Wars fanatic, but Reynold was exempt,
09:46so we all kind of looked at each other with blank looks on our face.
09:49Do you want to do it?
09:50I'll do it, guys.
09:51I just need your help immensely on this project.
09:53I got you on this, bro.
09:54As long as you help me out here on the details,
09:56because I don't know a lot about Star Wars.
09:58Let's go for it.
10:00♪♪♪
10:10We left the suite and went directly to Boylan Studios
10:13to have a meeting with Jim Ward of LucasArts
10:16and Gary Arnold of Best Buy,
10:18both who were just phenomenally ready to help us.
10:21Episode three, it is the last Star Wars movie ever.
10:27And the reason it's so important is because
10:30Darth Vader is inarguably the world's greatest villain,
10:35and everybody wants to see how Darth Vader came to be.
10:39This is the movie that answers that.
10:41The two executives were brilliant.
10:43I mean, I truly feel like the smartest thing
10:45that we could have done on this project
10:47is to spend as much time as we could have possibly done
10:50with the two executives.
10:51The real focus needs to be the game and the DVD
10:55and capitalize on both of these things being available
10:58in the best possible way.
10:59Just listening to them and taking detailed notes,
11:02I got all the information I needed
11:04to make this thing successful.
11:05Look forward to making a film tomorrow.
11:07Okay, absolutely.
11:08Thank you very much.
11:10♪♪♪
11:14Hi, Mr. Warner, this is Randall from Accel Corporation.
11:17I was hoping to set up an appointment to meet with you
11:20along with my colleagues at 1015 this morning.
11:24Fantastic.
11:25We'll see you then.
11:26Thank you very much.
11:27We had an opportunity to meet with the Lucas exec
11:30and the executive from Best Buy.
11:32It was 26th?
11:33Mm-hmm.
11:34So we got to leave at 10 o'clock.
11:35To get there by 1015.
11:36Yeah, 10 o'clock.
11:3710 o'clock.
11:38Since Brian is from New York,
11:39I was surprised that he thought it would only take
11:41us 15 minutes to get to our location.
11:43Do we need to be heading out the door?
11:45We got to leave in, like, three.
11:46I can't make the project manager leave if he's not ready to go.
11:5026th and 12th Ave.
11:51Let's get out of here.
11:52Okay.
11:57Hello.
12:00We actually didn't leave the suite
12:02until a little bit after 10 a.m.
12:05I don't like to cut meetings close.
12:07West 26th Street, please.
12:09Yeah, 26th and 12th.
12:13Hello?
12:14Hi, Tom, it's Brian from the Accel Corporation.
12:16I'm just calling to let you know that we're in a little bit of traffic,
12:18but we should be there pretty shortly.
12:20We'll see you soon.
12:21Thank you very much.
12:22Talk to you soon.
12:23The executives are waiting for us.
12:24Little did I know that traffic would be so brutal.
12:32Traffic's killing me.
12:38Recently, I had a man,
12:40and he came in for his final interview,
12:42but in my mind, he was hired.
12:44So this guy started telling me what a creep his boss is.
12:47A disloyal person can totally destroy a corporation.
12:50I didn't like that an employee was talking badly about the boss,
12:53and I decided not to hire him.
12:55If you find a disloyal person,
12:57get rid of him or her immediately.
12:59They're no good.
13:00They'll never be good.
13:01There's nothing worse than disloyalty.
13:04I don't think Robin or Rona would be talking badly about me,
13:07but who the hell knows?
13:13It's 1030.
13:14Maybe you should just call him back and say,
13:16look, we're really sorry about this.
13:21Hello?
13:22Hey, Tom, it's Brian from the Accel Corporation.
13:24We're only a few blocks away,
13:25but traffic is really bad right now.
13:28I'll just be here if you need me again.
13:29All right, thank you.
13:32By the time we got to Boylan Studios,
13:34we were way, way behind schedule.
13:36We arrived at around 1045 for a 1015 meeting.
13:40Sorry for running a little bit behind schedule.
13:43Folks, I'll tell you what.
13:44We appreciate your coming,
13:46but we have to go to another meeting.
13:49Okay.
13:55I don't think it is a good sign to an executive
13:59who will be judging you to make them wait.
14:02That's never a good idea,
14:04and it generally leaves a bad taste in an executive's mouth.
14:07We're screwed.
14:09Alla, what did you get out of the meeting with him?
14:11Obviously, the big thing was, how does he become Darth Vader?
14:14He kept saying that over and over and over again.
14:17Darth Vader is our biggest star.
14:19All your questions will be answered.
14:21Okay.
14:22When we go to the photographer...
14:24I don't mind not being at the photo shoot.
14:26I just want to make sure that we are getting the...
14:28I think it's important for you to be at the photo shoot.
14:30Okay.
14:31Alla, what did you get out of the meeting with him?
14:33Obviously, the big thing was, how does he become Darth Vader?
14:36I think it's important for you to be at the photo shoot.
14:38I would love it if the three of us were at the photo shoot,
14:40but I think that I'm going to leave you all two here.
14:45Come on in, Darth.
14:50He's the main character, right?
14:51Correct.
14:52So we want to get him in every position,
14:54whether he's kneeling down, standing up.
14:56You seem to have a vision of what you want on that.
14:58Okay.
14:59The second we got to the photo shoot, Clay walked away.
15:02He basically said,
15:03Okay, Alla, go ahead and do this.
15:05I like that.
15:06Yeah, yeah.
15:07Squat a little bit with your knees.
15:08Can you do that?
15:09Beautiful.
15:10That's good.
15:11That's good.
15:12And so what did you actually do?
15:13He started flirting with one of the producers there
15:16and left me doing the whole thing by myself.
15:19Why the hell do I need Clay there if I'm going to do all the work?
15:22Good.
15:23And then the two fingers.
15:24There you go.
15:25Yeah.
15:26There you go.
15:27There you go.
15:36Randall, give me a rundown of everything about Star Wars
15:40from Episode I to all the way to VI.
15:43Okay.
15:44The central character is Luke Skywalker.
15:46Okay.
15:47Because we didn't make it to our meeting on time
15:49with the executives,
15:50we missed out on asking them a number of questions,
15:52and as a result, we've relied on Randall.
15:55Leia fleeing with the Rebel Force.
15:57Obi-Wan and Yoda basically train him
15:59and know that, to make a long story short,
16:01Luke finds his way.
16:03It's nice to hear from someone who loves it,
16:05but we didn't get a sense for how the two are marketed differently,
16:08what the audiences are,
16:10things that only somebody from the executive chair
16:13can really tell you.
16:14Let's get sketching,
16:15because we're so freaking far behind.
16:17The concept for the design was that,
16:19because Revenge of the Sith is about the transition
16:21from good to bad,
16:22that the overall display could capture that transition
16:25and that one side would be the light side
16:27and another side would be the dark side.
16:30Kind of like, here are the two TVs,
16:32and then on top of each of them is one of the characters
16:35in like an action stance.
16:36Choice of characters was an important question.
16:39Randall and Brian ultimately determined
16:42which characters we would use.
16:44We have the Chancellor,
16:45we have Obi-Wan,
16:46we have...
16:48If you wanted to do another good person,
16:50you could do Yoda.
16:51Or C-3PO.
16:52No, C-3PO.
16:53Can I just ask for the cutouts?
16:54Is there a reason why we don't want to feature people
16:56that are, like, new to the movie?
16:58Because it seems like that's going to be a more,
17:00a bigger draw.
17:01You don't think that these people will be the draw?
17:03Marshawn and I bumped heads as we were trying to decide
17:06which characters to feature prominently on the display.
17:09Someone like him?
17:11For me, as a person who hasn't seen the movie,
17:14that's going to draw me more
17:16versus someone I already know.
17:17You know he's already going to be in the movie.
17:19Why is that going to be an additional draw for you?
17:21I'll defer to you.
17:22I just think that we have some more impressive visual imagery.
17:24Let me ask Randall again.
17:25Randall?
17:26You have to feature the major characters.
17:28She wanted to choose the ones that had the best color
17:31or were the most interesting looking
17:33or might be the most engaging,
17:34and my argument was,
17:35nobody's going to know who these people are.
17:37That guy in the red suit, is he identifiable?
17:40He's new. No one knows him.
17:42I agree with Randall.
17:43Okay, I just wanted you to consider it.
17:50This is basically 42 inches high,
17:53and it's actually like DVD row and then game row.
17:56We can put a banner up on top.
17:57We want as much of it as we can get.
17:58The concept I came up with
18:00was when you stepped into the room that we created,
18:02you'll be able to experience both the movie by seeing it
18:07and the game by actually playing it on platforms
18:10within that environment.
18:11As soon as you walk in, boom, this is what it looks like.
18:14These originally, I don't know why they're centered right now.
18:17I want to move the parts so that we'll have that room
18:19for the graphics and stuff.
18:21I picked Darth, and I picked the robot, the huge one.
18:23He's, like, humongous.
18:25They hover over everybody.
18:26Then these two guys,
18:27but they'll go, like, somewhere within this vicinity.
18:29Yeah, okay.
18:30And then he is right over here.
18:32Ala is the project manager on this task.
18:3412 inches should be fine.
18:36Fine.
18:37I'll sign off on that.
18:38I regret letting Clay be project manager for this project.
18:41He didn't have anything to bring to the table.
18:43He did a terrible, terrible job.
18:51How do you want him?
18:52That's my evader, so he goes on this side.
18:55On the morning of the presentation,
18:57Clay and I took the interactive display
18:59and delivered it to Best Buy to set it up for our presentation.
19:03This guy was supposed to go over there originally.
19:05Okay.
19:06Got him misplaced.
19:07Will you take Chewbacca?
19:09Yeah.
19:10Hi, how are you?
19:11How's it going?
19:12We're creating our environment.
19:13Welcome.
19:14All right, he ought to go over there, don't you think?
19:16Yeah.
19:17Welcome.
19:18All right, he ought to go over there, don't you think?
19:20Well, actually, he goes...
19:23Yeah, he goes here.
19:24He's the good guy.
19:25Clay is...
19:26I think he's a little bit lost.
19:28He may be a little out of his league on this one.
19:30In fact, so much so that every decision that was made,
19:33Clay had to get an affirmation from Ala
19:35before he would make a decision.
19:37If you want, I will cheat
19:38and use the one that I was putting on the back side of the TV
19:41above the television.
19:43Ala happy?
19:44Okay, Ala eat lunch.
19:47Whoa.
19:48Straight, straight, straight.
19:49You're good, work with me, yes.
19:51You're good, you're good.
19:53Elegance.
19:54Are we going to have Marshawn present?
19:56Marshawn's going to present.
19:57Okay.
19:58I've given a lot of the presentations so far,
19:59so I wasn't nervous or shy about doing it,
20:02but I was definitely surprised
20:03because I hadn't been asked to do anything
20:05that was a key role up to this point.
20:08I mean, I don't think the presentation
20:09needs to be longer than 3 minutes.
20:11I think we're just explaining certain features of the display
20:13that are interactive that aren't shown
20:15because of the fact that it's a prototype.
20:17I think Brian thought that by asking me to be the presenter,
20:20I would feel more part of this production,
20:23but it could also be because he is not confident
20:26on whether we're going to win or lose,
20:27and it could all come down to presentation.
20:29What's doing?
20:30We are working on our presentation.
20:32Take a look at the display, go ahead.
20:34This side is the good side,
20:36the episode 3 basically is the bad side.
20:38And this side is the bad side?
20:39Exactly.
20:40I think Excel's display is average.
20:43There's no lights, there's no music.
20:46If Excel wins, I think a lot of it
20:48is going to have to do with their presentation.
20:50I would like them to just experience it as a customer.
20:52Mm-hmm.
20:53You know?
20:54Yeah, me too.
20:55Okay, you're right.
20:56What's the best way to do that?
20:57I was not 100% sold on this display,
21:00and I didn't want the fingers to point back at me
21:03as me not being a good presenter,
21:06and that being the reason we lost this task.
21:08I honestly think that you should do it.
21:10Why are you looking at me like that?
21:12I don't want you to do it.
21:13I know you do, Brian.
21:14I'm not passionate about this.
21:15You're more eloquent than I am.
21:16I honestly don't really know
21:18what went through Marshawn's head,
21:20but we're sitting there at crunch time
21:22having a discussion about
21:23who should do the presentation.
21:25Someone at this point just needs to step up
21:27and say, I'll do it.
21:32All right, if neither of you wants to do it,
21:34I'd like to do the presentation.
21:35You'd like to do the presentation?
21:36Mm-hmm.
21:37Then do the presentation.
21:38All right.
21:39Okay.
21:40Great.
21:42All right.
21:54How you doing?
21:55Hi, how are you?
21:56Nice to meet you.
21:57Let's see what we have here.
21:58Hi, how are you?
21:59Hi, Jim.
22:00Gary.
22:01How are you today?
22:02Nice to see you all.
22:03Welcome to the Experience the Galaxy
22:05in our interactive environment.
22:06So if you don't mind,
22:07I'd like to walk you through it.
22:08From the second the executives walked into the booth
22:10and said, allow me to present this to you.
22:12I'm like, oh, my God.
22:13He's going to try to take all the credit.
22:15So everything in here is individual modules.
22:18The panels are individual modules that can be attached,
22:20and all of the characters actually hold the thing together,
22:23but they could also function individually.
22:25Over here, we wanted everyone to see Darth Vader
22:28because Episode 3 is the emergence of Darth Vader.
22:31Now, the most important tagline that we have
22:33in this entire display is that they can watch it,
22:35they can play it, and they can own them both.
22:38I'm thinking the whole time,
22:39as Clay is talking to the executives,
22:41why isn't Ala doing this?
22:42Ala really had the most to do
22:44with the concept and design and layout.
22:46She really did.
22:47If you look around,
22:48everywhere you have these wonderful catchphrases.
22:50If I may interject for a second,
22:51you told us the most important thing is writing your own story,
22:54being the Jedi.
22:55So not necessarily the catchphrases,
22:57they're basically telling the story about your product.
22:59Right, well, that's part of it.
23:01Ala wanted to present part of it,
23:03but I kept that under wraps.
23:04I didn't want this to be Ala saves the day.
23:07And one more point, Clay, if you don't mind.
23:09No, go ahead.
23:10We actually created a very open environment as well.
23:12We did not want to close it off completely
23:14because we wanted to be inviting from every direction
23:16the consumer is coming.
23:17So we really wanted to do that.
23:18Now, as far as merchandising goes...
23:20I mean, I know this thing inside and out.
23:22I build it, I conceptualize it, I brought it to life.
23:25He just cut me out.
23:26Do you all have any questions about anything?
23:28No.
23:29Enjoy seeing it.
23:35Hi, Jim.
23:36How are you?
23:37Thanks for coming.
23:38Nice to see you.
23:39We saw the overarching umbrella challenge
23:41as this being something of an experience.
23:44Something that would make people want to bring
23:47Star Wars home with them.
23:48Not just the movie, not just the video game,
23:51but to bring that experience home with them.
23:53Now, we have two sides to this display.
23:57Here, we have good.
23:59On the other side, we have darkness.
24:02So if we'll go to the other side.
24:04I had half an hour to prepare.
24:06I had notes from Marshawn that I was holding in my hand.
24:10But, you know, if Marshawn wasn't going to do it,
24:12someone had to do it.
24:14People are drawn to this because they want to see
24:16the characters, like in Anakin, for example.
24:18Did you think at all about having Darth Vader
24:21play a more predominant role graphically?
24:24Darth Vader is an ominous figure.
24:26And if we were to put him dead center,
24:29we would overpower so much of the other elements
24:33of this film.
24:34Did you have a concern at all that people might be
24:36standing here watching this thing and voila,
24:40they're maybe in front of the product?
24:46I think that if you wanted to scale it forward,
24:48my suggestion now, after you bring that up,
24:50is we could put merchandise directly right in front of you
24:52while you're watching the movie.
24:54Good. Okay.
24:56Thank you very much.
24:57It wasn't my best work, but Marshawn pulled out
24:59at the last minute and left us all sort of
25:02trying to pick up the pieces.
25:04And I don't like people who drop the ball
25:06at the last minute.
25:17Hi.
25:19You can wait right over here, please.
25:20Thanks.
25:25Well, thank you for being with us.
25:27How did the teams do? Jim?
25:29The teams did well overall.
25:31But I think clearly one did better than the other.
25:34I think.
25:35What do you think?
25:36As Jim indicated, I think there's a clear winner tonight.
25:51Well, listen, I have great respect for both
25:53of these organizations.
25:54So I appreciate it very much and I will see you.
26:09Good job, everybody.
26:12Robin, let them in.
26:13Okay.
26:14They're ready for you to go in.
26:32I just had a meeting with executives from Lucasfilm
26:36and from Best Buy.
26:37Clay, you think you're doing all right?
26:39I was very proud of our presentation, Mr. Trump.
26:42What about you, Brian?
26:43I think our display was very impressive.
26:45So you both think you did pretty well.
26:47Okay.
26:48Carolyn, how did Capitol Edge do?
26:50Well, the one thing that the executives said
26:52was that you nailed the tagline where you said,
26:55watch it, play it.
26:56And I was like, what?
26:58The tagline where you said, watch it, play it,
27:01own them both.
27:02And they were very impressed with that.
27:03Bill?
27:04Well, I think the executives were also impressed
27:06with the way you were able to merchandise the product.
27:08People could access it easily.
27:09And at the end of the day, it's about selling the product.
27:12Now, Dexelle, the executives from Lucasfilm
27:16and from Best Buy told me there were lots of problems.
27:20But one of the problems is that you hardly showed
27:22Darth Vader in your display.
27:24And he's the central character in the movie.
27:27They totally preferred Capitol Edge.
27:30It wasn't even close.
27:31So congratulations.
27:32Thank you, Mr. Trump.
27:38Clay, you are the project manager.
27:41Yes, sir.
27:42Well, you know that we're going to go through
27:43a voting process now.
27:44Yes, sir.
27:45So how does the team feel about that?
27:46Adam, should he be exempt from firing or not?
27:48I do not think he should be exempt from firing.
27:51Felicia, what do you think?
27:52Are you going to vote for him or against him?
27:54Absolutely not.
27:55You're not going to vote for him?
27:56No, I'm not.
27:57What about you, Ola?
27:59I'm going to vote against him because I feel that
28:0190% of the task was on my shoulders.
28:04I basically led the way.
28:05I should have been the PM on this job, period.
28:07Clay, your team seems really unhappy with you.
28:10So you're not exempt and you are subject to being fired
28:13should you lose next week.
28:15Now, Capitol Edge, you may have won this task,
28:19but what you really have to do is learn to win the job.
28:23I feel there's probably nobody better to ask,
28:26how did you win?
28:28So, for your reward, you're going to spend quality time
28:31with Bill Rancic.
28:33You are going to go to White Plains and look at Trump Tower.
28:36You're going to see construction aspects.
28:38You're going to see sales aspects.
28:39The building is totally sold out.
28:41It's a total winner.
28:42But really what I want you to do is learn from Bill
28:45how you're going to win.
28:47He can tell you firsthand what it's like to be my apprentice.
28:50And I think it's a great reward.
28:53Folks, you lost.
28:55The good news for you, Randall,
28:57is that you're exempt from being fired.
28:59So you don't have to worry.
29:01With the exception of Randall,
29:03somebody from Excel will be fired.
29:14This is one of Mr. Trump's buildings here.
29:16It's called Trump Tower, White Plains.
29:18There you go.
29:19I was really looking forward to it.
29:20I mean, this was going to be fun.
29:21I love everything about real estate.
29:25I love being up here.
29:26It's inspiring.
29:27It makes me want to go out and buy more buildings
29:30and develop more real estate.
29:31This is a dream.
29:32So this is the top floor.
29:33Wow.
29:34I was here when they were still pouring the concrete on the ground.
29:38I was quite excited to spend the day with Bill.
29:40If you guys have any questions, too,
29:42this is your time to, you know,
29:44you can ask me anything you want.
29:45And he works with Mr. Trump closely every day,
29:48so he really understands
29:49what Mr. Trump is looking for in an apprentice.
29:52I think passion.
29:53I think you've got to be creative.
29:54You've got to think outside the box.
29:55You know, you want to be innovative.
29:57You know, you want to be able to come up with fresh ideas.
30:00And actions speak louder than words.
30:02And, you know, I know Donald Trump is a firm believer in that.
30:05It's about delivering the victories, which is, you know,
30:07you brought home a win last night,
30:09which is what this is about.
30:10Good words of wisdom.
30:12The thing I learned most from Bill today was,
30:14you know, in the end, it's all about you.
30:16You have to really stand up.
30:17It doesn't pay me to give the people on my team respect anymore.
30:21And that's the thing that I'm going to do
30:22in every single task from here on out.
30:24It's not about teamwork anymore.
30:26Don't sit back.
30:27This is the time to start winning.
30:28Yeah.
30:29You know, you're certainly on the radar screen,
30:31and this is the time where you really got to...
30:33Step up.
30:34Step up.
30:35You got to make it happen.
30:40Aye, aye, aye.
30:41You ready for boardroom?
30:42Well, you don't have to pack.
30:44I hate you.
30:45Randall could have been a big contributor to our loss
30:47because it was his original, you know, design.
30:50But because Randall is exempt, that's not an option.
30:53I did my packing.
30:54I packed everything.
30:55You act like you're ready to go.
30:57I'm going to fight for my life, but I'm packed in case.
31:01Do you think it's worth the good fight?
31:03Always.
31:04Are you kidding me?
31:05Always worth the fight.
31:07I feel concern for Brian in particular as we go to the boardroom.
31:10In my opinion, where we got beat was the other team's ideas
31:12were A, more creative than ours,
31:14and B, they definitely hit the mark
31:16as far as the expectations of the executives.
31:18I think the project manager, Brian,
31:20bears ultimate responsibility for making sure that we hit those marks.
31:23I can't even make cookies properly.
31:26Anything can happen in the boardroom.
31:28I am the project manager.
31:29I have a lot of responsibility,
31:31but I also rely on a team here.
31:33I gave Marshawn the presentation.
31:35She just gave up on it.
31:38She didn't feel comfortable doing it.
31:40Then you only had half an hour to put it together.
31:42I don't know.
31:43I don't want to deal with it.
31:45I respect the team,
31:47but it's not all my fault for why we lost.
31:51Marshawn definitely dropped the ball for the presentation.
31:54Marshawn should be fired.
32:10Hi.
32:11Go ahead. They're waiting for you.
32:42Brian, what was the concept for your display?
32:45The concept of our display, the theme was good versus evil.
32:48On one side of the display,
32:50we showed the good characters in the Star Wars film,
32:53and on the opposite side, we showed the evil characters,
32:56the Emperor and Stormtroopers.
32:58Who came up with the concept?
33:00The initial concept itself came from Randall,
33:03and we started building on top of that.
33:05Well, there's two issues here.
33:07There's the concept, and then there's the actual design of the movie.
33:10There's the actual design of the display.
33:12Conceptually, though, I think we had a good concept.
33:15I heard something that disturbed me a lot,
33:17that you basically didn't show up for a meeting with the two executives.
33:20What happened? Randall, whose fault was that?
33:22It was Brian's determination to leave at 10 o'clock for a 10-15 meeting.
33:26Where do you go in New York in 15 minutes?
33:28I know in New York, you know where you go?
33:30You go half a block in 15 minutes.
33:32Where were you going from? The suite?
33:34The suite.
33:35And where were you going to?
33:36Uh, Chelsea.
33:38How can you do Chelsea in 15 minutes?
33:40If you travel at midnight, okay,
33:42where there aren't that many cars on the street,
33:44you can't do from Midtown to Chelsea in 15 minutes.
33:47You're absolutely right, Mr. Trump.
33:49Are you from New York?
33:50I am from New York.
33:51Where are you from?
33:52Murray Hill.
33:53Murray Hill?
33:54So you're from Manhattan?
33:55Manhattan.
33:56You live in Murray Hill?
33:57And you don't know that you need 45 minutes to an hour to get there?
34:00How could you say, I'm going to meet the top executives,
34:03people that are going to determine your fate,
34:06and now you're talking about in the middle of the day, in traffic?
34:09And traffic was brutal, too.
34:11No, no, it didn't matter.
34:12If there was no traffic, you couldn't have made it.
34:14I'm going to admit that I made a mistake.
34:16I made the determination that, you know, research was important
34:19because as a team, we weren't all very familiar with the Star Wars brand.
34:22I mean, we all know the main characters, but...
34:25You know the main characters, and yet Darth Vader,
34:27which is the main character of all, was hardly in your display.
34:31And that's the main character of this new movie.
34:35The only way we could have known better how to choose the characters
34:38would have been if we had more time with the executives.
34:40We lost this task mainly because we didn't get the gist.
34:43We didn't get the grasp from the executives.
34:45You would have gotten the gist had you gone to the meeting.
34:47That's right.
34:48It is because you missed this meeting
34:50that you missed all of this information.
34:53You know, Brian, you've been very, very disappointing to me.
34:56I think you haven't stepped up.
34:58For weeks, I think you haven't stepped up.
35:01Do you agree with that, Marcia?
35:02I think that Brian's heart is not in this anymore.
35:04I don't think he wants to be here, and I think that...
35:07Do you want to go home to Murray Hill?
35:09No, I don't.
35:10You know what? It's only 30 blocks up the road.
35:12Brian, who was supposed to present?
35:14Was it supposed to be Rebecca?
35:15Yes. Let me, let me...
35:16I, well, I initially...
35:18To me, excuse me.
35:19To me, Carolyn, that's the main question.
35:21Of course.
35:22What happened to Marcia, and then Rebecca presented?
35:25Now, I heard she did an unbelievable job of presentation,
35:30considering she had, like, one minute to get prepared.
35:32Marcia, either you choked or something happened.
35:35Why didn't you present?
35:36Brian had originally given me the responsibility of presenting,
35:39and I'm more than happy to do it.
35:40I presented on a lot of tasks here.
35:42What happened?
35:43I was listening to Brian talk about the display,
35:45and I was listening to his communication style,
35:47and I thought that his communication style
35:49would be more suited for this type of presentation.
35:51I have no problem presenting.
35:53But why didn't you present? Excuse me.
35:55Why didn't you present?
35:56I think that Brian was the best person to present,
35:58and I was talking to Brian.
35:59Brian? How does Brian get to present?
36:01Do you think Brian's better than you or Rebecca to present?
36:03No, I'm not saying that, Mr. Trump.
36:04I don't think so.
36:05I think Brian would be the worst presenter in the room.
36:08I'm a horrible presenter.
36:11You're supposed to present,
36:13and a minute before the presentation,
36:15you hand the ball over to Rebecca.
36:16It was two hours.
36:17It was two hours before the presentation.
36:18That's not true. That's not true.
36:19I heard, Rebecca, how long was it?
36:21You were given notice to present.
36:22How long was it?
36:23It was about a half an hour.
36:24Rebecca said she wanted to present.
36:25Do you think you had enough notice to really make a good presentation?
36:28I would have preferred more time, Mr. Trump.
36:30Was it Brian that did this, or was it Marshawn?
36:33Why, all of a sudden, did Marshawn not present?
36:35What happened?
36:36I presented because Marshawn came to us,
36:38and she did not want to present,
36:40and she asked Brian if he wanted to present,
36:43and I didn't get the sense that Brian wanted to present.
36:46We were 30 minutes before presentation time.
36:49I didn't want to spend more time discussing.
36:51Was it Marshawn that didn't want to present?
36:53No.
36:54Or was it Brian that didn't want her to present?
36:56I gave Marshawn ownership of the presentation.
36:58This was what happened.
36:59She dropped the ball.
37:00He's just saying.
37:01Marshawn dropped the ball.
37:02Marshawn, why didn't you present?
37:04Rebecca has talked a lot about her presentation skills,
37:07and she hasn't had the opportunity to present.
37:09Do you think she's got better skills than you do?
37:11Absolutely not.
37:12Do you think she's a better presenter than you?
37:13I think it was time for her to prove herself.
37:14Excuse me.
37:15Do you think, well...
37:16And I didn't ask Rebecca to do this.
37:17Rebecca said, I would like to do the presentation.
37:19So at that point in time, should you have said,
37:21Well, if it's going to be Rebecca,
37:22then the ball's back in my court.
37:24I should really do the presenting.
37:26Rebecca, so why did you say you'd like to present?
37:29Because I was fearful that we would take up too much time
37:32discussing whether or not she wanted to present.
37:35I wanted to get the job done
37:37and do it to the absolute top of our ability,
37:39and I wanted to keep the focus on the project
37:41and away from whatever people were feeling outside of that.
37:45Marshawn, wouldn't it be logical
37:47at this stage of the interview process
37:49to really accentuate your strengths?
37:51Right.
37:52Wouldn't it make sense to step up the game
37:53and really showcase what you have?
37:55Absolutely.
37:56Because the window of opportunity here
37:57is closing really quickly.
37:58You're right, Bill.
37:59And the presentation was prepared.
38:00I was ready.
38:01But how could you do that to your team?
38:02You didn't present.
38:03I didn't do it to my team, Mr. Trump.
38:04Marshawn.
38:05Marshawn.
38:06Rebecca has talked a lot.
38:07Was it your idea not to present?
38:08I...
38:09Marshawn, was it your idea not to present?
38:10The short answer, Mr. Trump, is yes.
38:12I think you abandoned your team to some extent.
38:14I didn't abandon my team.
38:15I was more than happy to do it.
38:16I would have the presentation...
38:17Marshawn, we've been talking about this,
38:19why you didn't present for I don't know how long,
38:21and I'm listening to this.
38:22I still don't understand why you did not present.
38:25I presented...
38:26I did not present for a very basic reason, Carolyn.
38:28Please tell me that reason.
38:29I'm trying to figure it out.
38:30I thought that Brian should be the person to present.
38:32Marshawn, when you tell me
38:33Brian would be a good presenter,
38:35give me a break, okay?
38:36And even Brian would admit
38:37that he's a lousy presenter.
38:39I could see you saying
38:40Rebecca would do a better job than me.
38:42I could see that.
38:43She wouldn't.
38:44I don't think that...
38:45I didn't know until she was there.
38:46You saw her presentation.
38:48I think she did a nice job.
38:49I think it was fine.
38:50Why take the risk?
38:51Why gamble that?
38:52This is, you know,
38:53one of the bigger tasks you've had to date.
38:55This was a task about a display.
38:57This task is one of the best tasks I've ever seen.
38:59Star Wars.
39:00I mean, to me, what's better?
39:03Marshawn, I hate the fact,
39:05and you can say what you want,
39:07but you shunned your responsibility to present.
39:10And I hate the fact that you did it.
39:12Brian, you were a terrible leader.
39:14You were late,
39:15and you were late for the wrong reasons.
39:17You live in Manhattan,
39:19and you didn't really meet the executives,
39:21and you didn't know what they wanted.
39:23Brian, you're fired.
39:26You also.
39:27Marshawn, you're fired.
39:29I hate how you let your team down.
39:35Out. Go.
39:44Out.
40:06Brian never stepped up,
40:08and Marshawn disappointed me,
40:10because she's got great potential, I think.
40:15Out.
40:20Well, I definitely agree that Brian should have been fired.
40:22What do you think, Bill?
40:23I think Marshawn abandoned her teammates.
40:25She had no choice.
40:26Only the best can work here.
40:45Out.
40:59Brian decided to rely on one person.
41:01He didn't utilize resources the best that he could,
41:04and while I respect him as a person,
41:06I think that there were some strong decisions that were made
41:09that were not the right decisions.
41:11I think at the end of the day,
41:13Brian was in the boardroom, he was on the hot seat,
41:15and I was the easiest person to point fingers at.
41:18But we lost because of creativity
41:20and failure to use the full creative resources that we had.
41:28Next week, it's down to the final six.
41:31So what's their next task?
41:33Songwriting.
41:34That sounds fun.
41:35They'll have to write and record an original song for XM Radio.
41:39Who wouldn't want to do something like that?
41:41But it better be a hit, because America decides.
41:44What'd you think?
41:45That was really bad.
41:46What was that?
41:47But when someone makes a fatal mistake...
41:49You committed suicide.
41:51...the Donald won't miss a beat.
41:54You're fired.
