00:00What's up guys, today we're going to be talking about the best budget iPhones to pick up for this late 2023 and going into 2024.
00:08So, the number one, you know, iPhone that I get asked about a lot is the iPhone 11.
00:13It's still one of my favorites on the list, and I'm going to talk about the Pro as well too of this phone.
00:19But the iPhone 11, it's a really good phone.
00:21I'm seeing these really cheap for around $250, brand new, if you get it on a locked carrier.
00:28I see them at Walmart all the time, and also you can find them used refurbished for like $259 on eBay, Amazon, and it's a very good phone.
00:37So, it's got a really good design, the aluminum frame, glass back, and I think this phone still has a modern look,
00:43and I actually think it's a lot more comfortable than the newer iPhones with the sharper, boxier edges.
00:49It's IP68 dust and water resistant as well, and it's got a 6.1 inch 720p plus display, 326 for the PPI.
00:58It's an IPS panel LCD.
01:00Basically, the display is fine for what it is.
01:03Now, yes, it's not an OLED display or anything like that, but I think that for the average person, it is a pretty decent panel.
01:10It's not super bright, and it's not super high res, but I think that's probably the only negative is that it's not 1080p, it's just 720p.
01:19But like I said, the display itself does look decent for what it is.
01:24This phone, it does have iOS 16.6, and it will get iOS 17 as well, too.
01:30This phone also has the Apple A13 chip, and surprisingly, this phone is still very, very fast.
01:37I had looked up some benchmarks recently, and it's still super, super blazing fast, guys.
01:43So, playing PUBG at 60 frames, you know, HDR Extreme is really good on here.
01:48Bouncing in and out applications is really good.
01:50It still feels very, very fast, you know, running the latest version of iOS.
01:55This phone also has 64 gigs of internal storage and 4 gigs of RAM on the base model, and that might be the thing.
02:01The storage is a little low.
02:03If you take a lot of photos and download a lot of stuff, I suggest you know you might have to upgrade to the 128.
02:09The stereo speakers are fine on here.
02:11Of course, you get Face ID and pretty much all the other stuff, eye measures, all that good stuff.
02:16Really, the cameras on here.
02:18So, the cameras, I think, have aged pretty well.
02:20It's a 12-megapixel standard and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide.
02:24I think the only thing that's, you know, obviously missing here is any type of telephoto lens,
02:29but, you know, it's got 4K60 video, 12-megapixel selfie, also shoots in 4K60.
02:35I was still pretty impressed with the overall image quality of the iPhone 11.
02:39Pretty good detail, pretty good color.
02:42Like I said, video is pretty good.
02:44I had, you know, pretty much zero complaints with the overall image quality of this phone.
02:48I still think it takes pretty good shots, actually.
02:51So, this phone also, so battery life.
02:54So, it depends on, you know, if you get this refurbished, what the battery health is.
02:59Now, for mine, it's around 86%.
03:02So, I'm typically able to get close to 6 hours of screen-on time.
03:06So, the battery life is pretty decent on here.
03:09And it's got a 3,110 mAh battery, and it does have wireless charging.
03:14Overall, I think this is a really good option for most people, especially if you get it locked,
03:18you can get one brand new.
03:20Even if you get it refurbished, I still think it's a great deal.
03:22All right, next is the iPhone 12 mini.
03:24This is a pretty good option, especially if you want a more compact type of phone here.
03:30So, you can typically find these for around $260.
03:34They're pretty cheap these days.
03:36And like I said, it's a very compact phone.
03:38So, you can one-hand this thing extremely easy.
03:42It's got the aluminum frame.
03:43It's got the more up-to-date design.
03:45It's IP68 dust and water resistant.
03:47And it actually does have a pretty good display.
03:49And it's a, like I said, a very compact phone, 5.4-inch display, 1080p 476 for the PPI.
03:56It's the Retina XDR OLED display.
03:59And it does a fairly good job in direct sunlight, too.
04:02It's 1,200 nits peak brightness.
04:04Overall, I have no issues with the display on here.
04:06It's a pretty nice display.
04:08And this phone is still blazing fast, running the Apple A14 chip, iOS 16.6.
04:14And of course, this one will get iOS 17.
04:17This phone is just super fast.
04:18It feels just as fast as the newest iPhones for sure.
04:22And gaming, all that good stuff, doesn't matter.
04:25This phone will pretty much play anything you throw at it.
04:2864 gigs of internal storage and 4 gigs of RAM on the base model.
04:32I was actually pretty impressed with the speaker quality on here, especially for the size.
04:37There's a ton of bass with this phone, as well, too.
04:39The cameras are still top-notch on this phone, as well, too.
04:42It takes really, really good shots, 12-megapixel standard and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide.
04:48It shoots in 4K60, 12-megapixel selfie that shoots in 4K60.
04:52Pretty much the image quality is pretty much on par with, like, an iPhone 13, in my opinion, still.
04:57It still takes really good shots, so you're still getting an excellent camera setup and video on this phone.
05:04So, this is where, you know, the question comes in.
05:07What about the battery life?
05:08So, the battery life on here, when I had it, I was getting, like, maybe 4 hours of screen-on time.
05:13It wasn't really that good of a battery life, especially if you, like, play games and stuff.
05:19If you're a lighter user, you might be able to get through the day, but it's got a small battery, 2,227 milliamp.
05:26It does wireless with the MagSafe, as well as wireless charging.
05:31So, the battery performance on here, like I said, it's not going to be anything too special,
05:35but the thing is, you can buy a battery case with this phone, and you can just, you know, charge it up when you need to,
05:41if you're out and you're not around a charger.
05:43So, I think this is a pretty good option, considering how cheap the phone is.
05:48Just put a battery case on it.
05:50But this is a phone that I actually really like.
05:52Now, if I had to buy a phone on this list, it would definitely be the iPhone 12.
05:58It's just a phenomenal device for the price that it is at now.
06:02So, you can easily find these in the used refurbished marketplace for, like, 400 bucks,
06:08and sometimes a little bit cheaper, but it basically feels like, you know, an iPhone 13 and 14.
06:14There's almost no difference between the 14 and this one, right?
06:18It's got the aluminum frame.
06:20It's got the up-to-date design.
06:21It's IP68 dust and water resistant.
06:24Beautiful display, 6.1-inch XDR OLED display.
06:28This one is a 1080p plus display, 460 for the PPI, 1200 nits peak brightness.
06:34Overall, just a fantastic display, really cool design on here.
06:39It's got the Apple A14 chip, just like the 12 mini, so this one is blazing fast as well, too.
06:45And, of course, it'll get updates for years and years to come.
06:48So, if you buy this phone, honestly, you won't have to update for, you know, a very long time.
06:53You also have 64 gigs of internal storage, 4 gigs of RAM on board here,
06:58and the cameras are pretty much, like I said, on par with, like, something like an iPhone 14 and 13.
07:04I believe I did a comparison, you know, with this phone,
07:07so it basically takes photos just like the newest iPhones, guys.
07:12It's a 12-megapixel standard and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide, shoots in 4K60.
07:1712-megapixel selfie also shoots in 4K60.
07:20Like I said, it's still going to give you the flagship quality photos.
07:24Also, stereo speakers are really good on here.
07:27And then, this one actually has a bit better battery life as well, too.
07:30It's a 2815 mAh battery, and then you have the MagSafe charging and the wireless charging.
07:37So, overall, battery life for me, I was easily getting, like, 6 hours of screen-on time as a light user,
07:42so the battery experience is really not bad at all on this phone.
07:46All right, next is the iPhone XS.
07:48So, this is a pretty interesting phone here.
07:50So, the XS is, like, the oldest phone, I believe, running iOS or is going to get iOS 17.
07:58So, these phones are typically around 200 bucks now,
08:01and I'd like to recommend this phone for people who don't want the 11,
08:07and you probably want, you know, a better display.
08:09This one has the, you know, 1080p display.
08:12It's OLED and all that good stuff.
08:14But it's pretty interesting because you could get the iPhone 11 Pro as well, too,
08:18but the issue with that is that the 11 Pro is almost just about the same as the iPhone 12,
08:24and it really comes down to how bad do you need the telephoto lens on the 11 Pro, right?
08:29So, I still like this pick here.
08:32I really like the design. It's one of my favorite iPhone designs.
08:35Stainless steel frame, IP68 dust and water resistant.
08:38Just a very classy-looking phone, for sure.
08:41It's got a 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED display.
08:44Like I said, 1080p+, 458 for the PPI.
08:47A much, much better-looking display than the, you know, standard iPhone 11, for sure.
08:53Like I said, this phone, it's supposed to get iOS 17,
08:56but I'm really not sure if it'll get iOS 18 or when they're going to cut support.
09:01They could get iOS 18, and then that'll probably be it.
09:05Just don't know yet.
09:06For me, using the phone, the phone is still pretty snappy for the most part,
09:11I think for the average person.
09:13It's got the Apple A12 chip.
09:14Just playing Subway Surfer, playing, you know, PUBG.
09:18It all plays those actually fine. It plays PUBG, HDR Extreme.
09:21This phone does heat up, I noticed, a little bit more than the newer phones on the list, for sure.
09:27It's got 64 gigs of internal storage and 4 gigs of RAM.
09:30Stereo speakers are really good on here.
09:32Face ID, all that good stuff is going to work.
09:36The camera's on here.
09:36So, it's a 12-megapixel standard and a 12-megapixel telephoto, 2x optical zoom, which is pretty cool.
09:43So, you know, if you like to zoom in, this actually does take pretty nice zoom shots as well, too,
09:48but it's lacking the ultra-wide.
09:50Of course, you do have 4K 60 and then a 7-megapixel 7 selfie cam that shoots in 1080p 60.
09:58So, basically, the cameras on here are pretty decent, especially if you're in good lighting situations.
10:03But if you take this phone out of any type of good lighting, you will get like a really soft, kind of grainy photo.
10:08But I actually think it does a very good job outdoors.
10:13Check out the XS versus the 14 Pro comparison.
10:16You'll actually be kind of surprised.
10:18Battery life, like I said, is okay on this phone.
10:21Typically, looking at like 5 hours of screen-on time.
10:23It really depends on the battery health, but that's pretty much what I get.
10:28It's got a 2,658 milliamp-hour battery, wireless charging.
10:32So, you know, it'll almost kind of get you through the day, but definitely, you could get the battery replaced,
10:38but battery life is just okay on this phone.
10:40And next is the iPhone SE 2020, actually.
10:44You can find this phone for $150.
10:47And I really like this phone for anybody who wants to use a home button, guys.
10:52So, remember, they got rid of the iPhone 8.
10:55It's not getting iOS 17.
10:56So, this is the only iPhone you can buy with a home button that's going to have the latest software.
11:01And I still really like this device.
11:03It's got the, you know, basically the iPhone 8 design.
11:07It's IP67, dust and water resistant, very small screen, 4.7 inches, 720p plus, 326 for the PPI.
11:15It's a LCD display.
11:16It actually looks fine since it's really small.
11:19So, I have no issues with the panel and, you know, it's got the big bezels and all that,
11:23but it's really for people who really like the, you know, the home button.
11:28This phone is still blazing fast.
11:30Apple A13 chip on here is super, super fast, just bouncing in and out of applications.
11:35PUBG, it plays really well.
11:37HDR Extreme is a super, super fast phone.
11:40So, performance is top-notch still on this phone.
11:4364 gigs of internal storage, 3 gigs of RAM.
11:47The kind of odd thing about this phone is that the cameras on this phone, it's got a 12-megapixel standard and that's it.
11:54There's no telephoto.
11:55There's no ultra-wide.
11:56It's only got one camera.
11:57Now, the one camera on here actually does a pretty good job.
12:00You can get some pretty good shots out of this phone.
12:03It shoots in 4K60, a 7-megapixel selfie.
12:06It shoots in only 1080p30.
12:09The camera situation, obviously, it's really for people who don't take a whole bunch of pictures, just a point-and-click,
12:14but it will do a good job at point-and-click for sure.
12:18And like I said, the highlight with this phone is the fingerprint scanner.
12:21You do have Touch ID on here and you have that physical button that some people just really prefer to have.
12:27Battery life is basically what you would expect.
12:29It's really not that great.
12:31Four hours of screen-on time.
12:33It's got a, you know, kind of a small battery, 1,821.
12:37It does wireless charging as well, too.
12:40Overall, I think it's a fantastic phone for anybody who has to have, you know, that physical, you know, home button.
12:47Like I said, that is pretty much it.
12:49You can also, like I said, get the iPhone 11 Pro.
12:51That's also a pretty good buy if you really want to have the telephoto lens, but honestly, I would just get the 12.
12:58All right, so that's pretty much it, guys.
13:00Be sure to let me know and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
