00:00Just one day away from Tuesday's key presidential election in the U.S., we invite international
00:06analyst Yamir Shabour.
00:07Hi, Yamir.
00:08Thank you for your time here and from the South.
00:10Hello, Alejandra.
00:13Thank you for having me again from out the South.
00:18It's the final day before the U.S. presidential elections, as I mentioned before, and the
00:22last also opportunity for the candidates to deliver the pitch to voters.
00:27What are key issues in play today in the final hours of the presidential race?
00:32It's great to be on this show right now.
00:37I'm here right now in the state of Pennsylvania doing a little bit of door knocking, just
00:49observing how these elections are going on here.
00:52As you know, Pennsylvania is a key state for these elections, and right now we're
00:59seeing things being contested here in the United States between the two candidates.
01:07That would be Kamala Harris from the Democratic Party and ex-president Donald Trump from the
01:14Republican Party.
01:16So foreign trade, immigration, and other key issues are at the forefront of the candidate's
01:22agenda.
01:23How will these key foreign policy issues be influenced by the outcome of these elections,
01:28and how might they shift under the new administration?
01:32Well, so immigration has been a very important topic in this election, as a lot of people
01:42here in the U.S. have seen how Donald Trump, with his MAGA movement, Make America Great
01:52Again movement, has attacked immigrants.
01:54That was his first wave of how he started his campaign back in 2016 when he called Mexican
02:06people coming over the southern border drug dealers and rapists.
02:13His attacks when it comes to migration is basically that if Kamala Harris wins, then
02:25this country will be invaded by migrants who are going to plan to eat people's pets.
02:33And he said the xenophobic topic about the Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, other
02:38than Kamala Harris, that also the Democrats have a more lenient policy when it comes to
02:45immigration still wanting to deport immigrants, but not as vicious as Donald Trump.
02:52But overall, what the two candidates failed to see is that the migrants coming over the
02:59Mexican border are coming because they want, they're coming out of necessity, and a lot
03:08of this necessity is connected with the foreign policy of the United States interfering with
03:15the stability of the countries that they're coming from.
03:20Regarding the Middle East issue, these elections are overshadowed by the ongoing genocide in
03:26Gaza and also the increased Israeli aggressions against Lebanon, a war of terror that has
03:31left over 40,000 deaths.
03:34Can the Middle East crisis be a decisive point in the voting tensions at the swing states,
03:39particularly Michigan, where there is a large Arab American population, but also in Pennsylvania
03:44where you are?
03:48Definitely.
03:49I believe that what is happening in the Middle East with the genocide being facilitated by
03:59the state of Israel has an effect in these elections.
04:05As we know, Michigan is home to the biggest Arab American population, and many of them
04:12have been disillusioned by the Biden and Harris administration with their lack of not
04:20doing enough for the situation out in Gaza, and also reprimanding the prime minister,
04:30genocide, Benjamin Netanyahu.
04:37And also, when it comes to the Trump administration, Trump is also in support of the state
04:42of Israel.
04:46Michigan can be a very tricky topic, knowing how it could swing, given the amount of Arab
04:54Americans, seeing how there was a Muslim community that were angry at Biden and Harris and endorsed
05:05Donald Trump, as well as Kamala Harris and her vice president pick, Tim Walz, also campaigning
05:14in the state of Michigan.
05:16So it could go either way.
05:20Thank you, Yamir, for all the information.
