00:00Israel Defense Forces' IDF bombed Beirut again.
00:15The target of the attack was the suburb of Dahije in south of the Lebanese capital.
00:24In Venezuela, on Thursday, the political dialogue convened by the National Assembly began with
00:28the participation of parties and movements that took part in the July 28th presidential
00:33elections.
00:34And in Brazil, nearly 19 million people in most of the country participated in the forest
00:41fires of August 2024.
00:48Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:53We begin with the news.
01:12On Thursday night, Israel Defense Forces bombed Beirut again.
01:15The target of the attack was the suburb of Dahije in the south of the Lebanese capital.
01:20The new Israeli attack was more far-reaching than the one perpetrated last week, in which
01:25the Secretary General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, was assassinated.
01:29A source close to the resistance group said that Israel carried out 11 consecutive attacks
01:34in the area, felt throughout the capital and its surroundings.
01:38Meanwhile, Israeli sources reported that the target of their defense forces was Nasrallah's
01:43cousin, Hassan Safi Dine, who was reportedly elected as the new leader of the movement.
01:49However, Hezbollah denied reports of his appointment earlier this week, urging to wait for an official
01:55statement on the matter.
01:56During the attack, Safi Dine was reportedly in a deep bunker.
02:06Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel reiterated on Thursday his rejection of the crimes committed
02:11by the Zionist State of Israel against Lebanon and demanded actions by the international
02:16community to stop the aggression.
02:19The Cuban head of state said that another Zionist genocide of scorched earth and martyred
02:24people is taking place in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, with the use of weapons banned by
02:29international accords, as has occurred in Gaza.
02:33Diaz-Canel also pointed out that Cuba demands actions from the United Nations Organization
02:38to put an end to these crimes against humanity.
02:41Israel's ongoing bombardment is targeting civilian victims while preventing humanitarian
02:46aid from reaching the population under attack.
02:55Israeli occupying forces do not cease its attacks against the countries that support
02:59the Palestinian people, including Syria and Lebanon.
03:02An aggressive escalation that is because of the acts of resistance claimed to face in
03:07In the last two days, the residential neighborhood
03:23of Al-Mazeh in the Syrian capital, Damascus, was the target of two Israeli air aggressions,
03:28which caused the death and injury of dozens of defenseless civilians, in addition to considerable
03:33material damage.
03:34These attacks, which the Syrians condemn, are part of the criminal escalation that the
03:39Tel Aviv regime is developing with the support of the United States, and the complicit silence
03:43of the world community, against the peoples of the region.
03:52We denounce the inaction of the world community and the indifference of the United Nations,
03:56that do not condemn the repeated aggressions against our country.
04:01Because they adopt a policy of double standards, without caring about the lives of civilians
04:05living in these residential areas, including children, because this is not a military zone
04:10and there is no reason to attack it and yet this is the second time they bomb it.
04:17From here, we say to the Zionists that no matter how much they attack us and no matter
04:21how much they bomb us, we will remain firm, identified with our leadership and supporting
04:26their decisions, supporting the resistance and all the fighters of the resistance, and
04:31in defiance of the aggressors we say that we will rebuild every place they destroy,
04:35because contrary to them, we are people who love life.
04:47Like Syrians, fellow Palestinians living in Syria also condemned the aggressive Israeli
04:51escalation against Palestine and its allies, and affirmed to continue the struggle against
04:56the Zionist regime until it is expelled from its usurped territories.
05:00They expressed their attachment to the legacy of the leader of the Lebanese resistance,
05:04Hassan Nasrallah, at a condolence ceremony organized in honor of his memory in the Yarmouk
05:09refugee camp, south of Damascus.
05:18Syria is the main pillar of the resistance and the first defender of our cause, because
05:22here we were born and grew up, in al-Yarmouk camp, and from here we will continue the struggle
05:27until the liberation of Palestine.
05:30And from here we honor the memory of Syed Hassan, whose death has been a great loss
05:34not only for Hezbollah, but also for us, because he was always a strong defender of our just
05:40cause and other Arab struggles.
05:44Syria is the main pillar of the resistance and the first defender of our cause, because
05:48here we were born and grew up, in al-Yarmouk camp, and from here we will continue the struggle
05:54until the liberation of Palestine.
05:57And from here we honor the memory of Syed Hassan, whose death has been a great loss
06:01not only for Hezbollah, but also for us, because he was always a strong defender of our just
06:06cause and other Arab struggles.
06:12The Iranian embassy in Damascus also hosted a wake for the martyr of the resistance, Hassan
06:16Nasrallah, a gesture that, added to the attack carried out by Iran last Tuesday, against
06:21Israeli military positions in occupied Palestine, demonstrates its unconditional support for
06:26the sacred battle that unites the Palestinians, Syrians, Lebanese, Yemenis and Iraqis, in
06:33the face of the criminal actions of the Zionists.
06:44In Palestine, at least 20 people were killed after the latest Israeli army shelling of
06:49refugee camps in the city of Tulkarem.
06:51In a statement, the Palestinian Ministry of Health informed that the systematic attack
06:55of the Tel Aviv regime caused the death of children and women who were living in the
07:00area after being displaced from their homes by the Israeli army.
07:04So far, authorities are assessing the wounded and rescue operations are underway to find
07:09the whereabouts of more survivors of the bombing.
07:12This attack follows the several aggressions and massacres orchestrated by the Zionist
07:16troops almost a year after the beginning of their genocidal plan against the Palestinian
07:21population, which has also left more than 41,000 dead and some 96,600 wounded.
07:33The World Health Organization Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that healthcare
07:38continues to come under attack as in Lebanon alone, 28 health workers have been killed
07:44in the last 24 hours.
07:46In Lebanon, more than 1,600 people have been killed and more than 1 million displaced,
07:55including 350,000 now living in shelters and 160,000 who have crossed the border into the
08:04Syrian Arab Republic.
08:07Healthcare continues to come under attack.
08:11In Lebanon alone, 28 health workers have been killed in the last 24 hours.
08:19Many health workers are not reporting to duty as they fled the areas where they work due
08:26to bombardments.
08:29This is severely limiting the provision of mass trauma management and continuity of health
08:35services.
08:37Let's take a short break, but remember you can join us on TikTok at TELUS or English

09:02Welcome back to From the South.
09:04In Venezuela, on Thursday the political dialogue convened by the National Assembly began with
09:09the participation of parties and movements that took part in the July 28th presidential
09:13elections.
09:14The President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, heads the work session which will
09:19help to develop the duties set forth in the Constitution of the Republic in regards to
09:23the protection of the country's sovereignty.
09:26It also aims at modifying the electoral laws to put an end to the practices used by politicians
09:31to call for invasion, support illegal sanctions and incite coup d'etats.
09:36In this regard, Rodríguez emphasised that politicians cannot promote disruptive actions
09:40that put Venezuelans in harm's way.
09:48You cannot participate in the political life of the nation and at the same time promote
09:53foreign military actions or promote homicides or promote car bombs.
09:58It is completely inconceivable.
10:02And it is not possible to combine political action with actions that can only be classified
10:07as terrorist.
10:09But that is what we are living today.
10:13In Haiti, over 700,000 people are now displaced from their homes, more than half of whom are
10:19children due to the increasing gang violence mainly in the capital.
10:23According to the United Nations, the Caribbean country has been plunged into anarchy with
10:27gangs taking over the capital, put up rents and the security and health systems collapsing.
10:33The International Organization for Migration reported that by early September the number
10:38of internally displaced people since June has increased by 22% and about 75% of them
10:44are now sheltered in the country's provinces.
10:47In addition, the agency called for greater international attention on the crisis to restore
10:51stability and security across the country and provide humanitarian aid to those affected.
11:03There are all kinds of policies, except a housing policy.
11:07It's the biggest problem after everything we've been through here.
11:11And the worst thing is that some people refuse to rent out their houses to us.
11:19This is hell.
11:21This is it.
11:22I live it here.
11:25Growing up, I used to hear that hell and heaven exist.
11:28Well, I'm living hell in Haiti today.
11:33ALBA TCP member Antigua and Barbuda inaugurates Thursday the Burton Nebs International Airport,
11:39the second in this Caribbean nation.
11:41The inauguration is marked with the arrival of the first commercial flight and represents
11:46a significant milestone for the Caribbean nation's government, headed by Prime Minister
11:50Gaston Brown and the aviation industry within the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States.
11:56The new airport promises to significantly enhance flight traffic between Antigua and
12:01its sister island, Barbuda, paving the way for improved connectivity and economic growth,
12:06reinforcing the country's vision of one nation, two islands, two gateways.
12:14In the United States, the ongoing dock workers' strike could lead to shortages and an increase
12:20in the prices of several products nationwide.
12:23The dock workers of 14 national ports went on strike after the failure of negotiations
12:28between the Union and the Maritime Alliance.
12:31This is the first time something similar has happened in the nation in the last 50 years,
12:36after a similar protest in 1977.
12:38The crisis, which has reached global dimensions, affects everything from the automobile market
12:44to the drug market.
12:45If an agreement is not reached soon, the strike could cost the country $5 billion a day and
12:52raise the prices of the few products that are still available.
13:00In this regard, the strike continues after the United States Maritime Alliance offered
13:05a wage increase of about 50%, while the Union is demanding a 77% increase.
13:11The workers are also demanding an absolute ban on the automation of cranes, gates and
13:18container trucks, claiming that these technologies put their jobs at risk.
13:22It should be noted that the closure of the ports threatens to disrupt container traffic,
13:26costing billions of dollars to both the US and global economies.

13:53Final short break, don't go away.
14:05In Brazil, nearly 19 million people in most of the country have been affected by forest
14:25fires in the first nine months of 2024.
14:28According to the National Confederation of Municipalities, up to 10,700 families had
14:33to abandon their homes due to forest fires so far this year.
14:38In addition, the fires have caused losses of $365 million in all the municipalities
14:43of the country.
14:45The agency pointed out that the people impacted not only include those hit by the fire, but
14:50also those affected by the smoke, those who sought medical attention and those who suffered
14:55with the interruption of essential services.
14:58On the other hand, the Brazilian Ministry of Environment attributes the increasing fires
15:02to climate change and drought in the country.
15:08In Thailand, heavy rainfalls have caused flash floods in at least 14 provinces of the country.
15:14The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that over 28,800 families
15:19in the northern, northeastern and central Thai provinces have been affected by the downpours,
15:26while around 193,307 families residing in 5,000 villages suffered structural damages.
15:34Furthermore, authorities have confirmed at least 49 deaths and 28 injured since August 16.
15:49In Germany, thousands of demonstrators gathered in Berlin on Thursday to protest against the
15:53government's stance on the conflict in Ukraine.
15:56This way, the protesters called to halt Germany's delivery of arms to Ukraine, while urging
16:01the signing of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
16:05Under the slogan, Never Again War, citizens held a demonstration on the day of German
16:10unity, the annual holiday commemorating the reunification of the nation in 1990.
16:16Those present also expressed their solidarity with the people of Palestine, with banners
16:20calling for an end to Israel's occupation in the territory.
16:51I have two children.
16:57I don't want them to grow up in war.
16:59And what's happening at the moment between the superpowers and Russia is a nuclear power
17:03– conflict.
17:04The USA is a nuclear power, and to keep escalating, that puts us all into hot water.
17:09And Europe.
17:10I don't want Europe.
17:11I don't want Germany to become a nuclear battlefield.
17:14And that's why I'm here today, to take this to the streets.
17:20Demonstrators of mostly university students protested on the streets of the capital city
17:24Accra on Thursday to demand an immediate halt to illegal mining.
17:29Demonstrators planned to stage rallies for three days, and are also demanding the release
17:33of 54 activists detained last month for marching with the same demand.
17:37The government's handling of illegal mining, particularly its impact on natural resources
17:42and rural livelihoods, has become a flashpoint issue in the run-up to the West African country's
17:47presidential elections in December.
17:50Labour unions said they will begin a nationwide strike October 10th to force authorities to
17:55take urgent actions.
17:57Demonstrate and demonstrate and demonstrate and demonstrate.
18:04So our leaders realise that the issues we are talking about are critical issues.
18:09We will keep demonstrating.
18:11Today will not be the end of it.
18:13We will protest and protest and protest.
18:15On the 10th of October, the organised labour is going on strike.
18:21So everybody is coming on board.
18:24So we have started earlier.
18:26Others will join.
18:28It's like poisoned air.
18:30That would be the next worst thing.
18:31This is poisoned water.
18:32You can't check every tomato you buy.
18:34You can't check every onion you buy.
18:36It's going to get to everyone.
18:38And we already don't have a proper healthcare system.
18:42Do we really want to play this game?
18:44Is this a game you really want to play?
18:46This doesn't end well for anyone.
