00:00 The A-List Podcast is brought to you by FanDuel,

00:06 - Hello everyone, welcome into the A-List Podcast.
00:10 Yes, I am still finishing my factor meal.
00:13 That's why you hear us finish it.
00:16 I was eating food before we started.
00:18 - And we heard it in stereo.
00:20 - Okay, but Sherrod was also eating the exact same meal.
00:22 So I feel like this is gonna be a really good episode
00:25 because we're all already in sync, right Gary?
00:28 - Right.
00:29 - Gary's feeling real good.
00:30 - And we're all in the ACC now.
00:32 - ACC fool.
00:36 - They barely made a plane.
00:37 - I love how he's trying to act coy now
00:39 because off camera, he was so hyped to be a part of the ACC.
00:42 - I am hyped, I'm hyped, I ain't gonna lie.
00:45 - Give us your statement.
00:46 - I don't know any Cal fan that's not hyped to be,
00:49 have a conference after being homeless for about a month.
00:53 I don't know any Cal fan that ain't happy about this.
00:57 - Cal was out there like, "Somebody, anybody, please."
01:02 Mountain West, Southwest, somebody.
01:04 - I'm ready, I'm ready to go to Virginia Tech,
01:07 I'm ready to go to Virginia, Clemson.
01:10 I'm even ready to go to Syracuse, believe it or not.
01:13 Any game at BC, I'm there.
01:18 Miami, we get to go to Miami?
01:21 - You?
01:22 - Tallahassee, what?
01:23 I mean, it's on.
01:25 Atlanta for Georgia, I even think about Georgia Tech.
01:29 I forgot they was in the ACC.
01:31 Oh, we going to Atlanta.
01:33 Me and the Cal crew, we going all over
01:36 the Atlantic coast for game.
01:38 Y'all done let us in, it's too late now, Serah.
01:41 Y'all gonna be like, "Man, why we let these busters
01:44 "up in here, this conference?"
01:46 But it's too late now.
01:47 We partied, I said, "We that uncle you didn't think
01:51 "was gonna show up at the barbecue?"
01:53 Like, oh, man.
01:54 - He wasn't invited.
01:55 - He wasn't invited, but he had come through,
01:57 come through late, hungry, and ready to take fool's money
02:02 and spades and dominoes.
02:04 So, let's get ready for the Cal, folks.
02:07 Now, I'm very excited, very excited after a tough month
02:11 for my alma mater.
02:12 - A tough month for his school.
02:14 - My alma mater and for Stanford and even SMU.
02:18 Let's give SMU just somehow, like they just backed in.
02:21 They was, they went even crazy.
02:24 - We partied that way, too.
02:25 - All of a sudden, SMU just kinda slides in,
02:28 like the dude at the, the last dude on the VIP list.
02:32 - Thank you, God.
02:34 - How long you been here?
02:35 All right, come on, come on.
02:36 - You know what, you good.
02:38 - Yeah, all right.
02:40 I'll let you in, too.
02:41 So, thank you for the welcome to the ACC.
02:44 - Yeah, that's--
02:45 - And we'll be talking more in the next several months
02:49 when the schedules come out for next year.
02:51 - Thank you for that.
02:52 Thank you for your enthusiasm about being--
02:55 - Let's go, Kawani, let's go.
02:56 - Let's go Atlantic Post Conference.
02:57 I've finally digested my food, so I think we're good now.
03:00 Let's talk about the Celtics.
03:02 And no, that was not an ad,
03:03 even though they are one of our sponsors.
03:05 I was just really hungry.
03:07 But let's go back to the Celtics.
03:08 Jason Tatum, Paul Pierce.
03:10 We thought it was just a social media for clout type video,
03:13 but are they besties now?
03:15 We had another video of Tatum and Pierce working out
03:18 and people are really excited about it.
03:20 What do you two think?
03:21 - So, I mean, it's nice to have that
03:26 in the month of August and September to talk about,
03:29 'cause there really isn't a whole lot else.
03:31 We're tired of talking about James Harden.
03:32 We're tired of talking about Dame.
03:34 We're tired of talking about the Fiverr squad,
03:37 although Ed Edwards still is balling out.
03:40 But for Celtics content, it's a good story.
03:43 But there's a connection there
03:46 that I do think we have under play,
03:48 because we're seeing it repeat itself over and over again.
03:52 You know, Paul is considered one of the great Celtics
03:57 of all time and greatness recognizes greatness.
03:59 He's trying to latch himself onto the next great Celtic.
04:03 And I think there's lessons that Paul can teach him.
04:05 It's certainly warning signs that Paul can put up
04:08 for Jason to navigate past.
04:10 But I think the thing that connects them is that
04:13 Paul knows better than I think almost anyone
04:16 what Jason is going through as far as trying
04:18 to get this franchise over the hump
04:19 and win the championship.
04:20 He spent a lot of his career battling that,
04:23 trying to figure out how to make that happen.
04:26 And you know, KG, Ray come to the building,
04:29 bam, chip is yours.
04:31 Is Porzingis that guy?
04:35 Is Gary's favorite defender O'Shea Brissett,
04:38 is he one of those guys?
04:40 We'll see.
04:41 But it makes for a good off-season story
04:43 just to see that it wasn't just like a moment in time.
04:47 It's like, there seems to be something brewing
04:49 between those two that goes a little bit more
04:51 than just, you know, every now and then workout type stuff.
04:55 - Wait, but what does Pierce gain from this?
04:58 No shade, like just genuinely curious.
05:01 Like what exactly-
05:03 - Gary, what you think?
05:05 - What can Pierce teach him?
05:06 - No, no, what does Pierce get out of this?
05:08 - Oh, oh, oh, oh.
05:11 I mean, I think that, I mean,
05:14 I think Paul wants to figure out what he wants to do for,
05:18 I mean, he's, you know, 45 years old now
05:23 and he's probably in that difficult position
05:26 of trying to figure out and transition
05:28 to what he wants to do next.
05:30 Does he want to coach?
05:31 Does he want to work out guys?
05:33 Does he want to be in management?
05:34 You know, he's delved into a lot of things.
05:38 He'd done a TV thing and now he's got the whiskey
05:41 and I think he's doing the cannabis stuff.
05:43 And, you know, he's had some not so great moments
05:47 over the last couple of years, but I think-
05:50 - Great moments, depends on how you look at it.
05:52 - Yeah, well, he's having fun when he,
05:55 he was having fun, but maybe, but too much fun.
05:57 - A little too much.
05:58 - But I think that it's good for him
06:01 to just, his reputation is kind of a potential coach,
06:05 a potential workout guy.
06:07 You know, these guys want to be able to have a life after.
06:12 And I think for Paul to take Jason under his wing,
06:16 you know, there's what, a 20,
06:18 about a 20 year age difference there.
06:20 So that's his OG.
06:22 And for them to work out together,
06:23 not just Paul sitting up there eating a sandwich,
06:26 saying, "Okay, Jason, go run suicides."
06:28 You know, like for them to actually be,
06:31 to Paul to be working out with him too,
06:33 I think says a lot.
06:35 So I think for Paul, he gets enrichment out of this.
06:39 And I think the respect,
06:40 the fact that Jason respects him,
06:43 you know, Paul's a guy,
06:45 and I think we've talked, we've heard about his,
06:47 he doesn't feel like he's respected
06:49 as much as he should be,
06:50 as a great player, an all-time great,
06:52 even though he made the 75,
06:53 even though he's made the Hall of Fame,
06:55 even though on Celtic, second all-time leading scorer,
06:58 all these accolades, he still feels somewhat slighted.
07:02 I think we all know that.
07:03 I think he has stressed that.
07:06 And I think the fact that
07:07 one of the top five players in the league
07:09 is working out with him and says,
07:11 "Hey, Paul, I wanna know what you know."
07:14 I think does a lot for Paul's confidence.
07:17 And also maybe his future
07:18 in terms of working with guys in coaching.
07:21 Maybe, you know, when his kids get older,
07:24 or he's got a young son,
07:25 maybe he coaches his son
07:27 and becomes a mentor and a coach.

08:01 So visit fanduel.com/boston.
08:04 Kick off the NFL season
08:05 with an offer you won't wanna miss.
08:07 FanDuel, official partner of the NFL.
08:10 - That makes sense.
08:16 All right, thanks for the perspective.
08:18 All right, so another player of that '08 team,
08:20 Raja Rondo, there was a report
08:23 that there could be some interest
08:25 in possibly bringing him on the staff for the Celtics.
08:31 One, do you guys think that would work out for them?
08:34 But two, kind of going along the lines
08:37 of the previous question,
08:38 what could be mutually beneficial for both sides
08:42 if he were to come back to Boston?
08:44 - You know, I think Raja was always a coach on the floor.
08:51 I've been told by many people
08:52 he's one of the most intelligent players,
08:54 basketball IQ off the charts.
08:57 So if this is what he wants to do,
09:00 and I think starting on an NBA staff,
09:02 coming back to Boston would be a great idea.
09:04 You know, Raja is gonna be 38 in February,
09:09 so the playing days are probably over.
09:12 He didn't play in the league this year.
09:14 I don't think he officially retired.
09:16 I think he was kind of just maybe nudged out
09:19 and bounced around a lot of teams.
09:21 But I think it's a good idea
09:24 to bring another guy on the staff.
09:26 Now, how will Raja respond to being
09:30 like the number three or four coach?
09:32 How will he bond?
09:34 Will he look at Mazzullo and be like,
09:37 "Dude, I know more than this guy."
09:38 Like that comes into play because Raja is so smart.
09:42 He's a 16, 17 year NBA veteran, multi-champion,
09:47 a guy who will be on the bubble
09:51 probably for the Hall of Fame, I don't know.
09:53 And we can debate that some other time.
09:55 Is it, you know, he'll be on the ballot.
09:57 So this guy has a lot of accolades,
09:59 all four-time all-star.
10:02 Will he kind of buy into being what an assistant coach is?
10:07 Especially with, but he knows,
10:09 I'm sure he's very cool with Sam Cassell.
10:11 I don't know his relationship with Charles Lee.
10:13 I don't know his relationship with Mazzullo.
10:14 I know he's a good relationship with Brad Stevens.
10:17 So do you bring him on and, you know,
10:21 give him the guidelines, say,
10:23 "Okay, Rajon, this is what we need for you to do.
10:25 "This is what we want for you to do.
10:27 "Can you do that?
10:28 "If you can't, that's okay."
10:30 You know, or does he try to coach
10:32 maybe an assistant coach in college?
10:34 Like a guy like Rod Strickland
10:36 is a coach at Long Island University.
10:38 Some guys, you know, Kenny Anderson,
10:41 our friend Damon Stoudemire,
10:42 like is college his direction that he wants to do?
10:46 I think he's got to make that decision,
10:47 but I think it's an intriguing thing.
10:49 And it's not something I would be against.
10:51 You know, personally,
10:53 Rondo was hell to deal with as a cover and a player.
10:57 He was, I mean, he was hell.
10:58 And I'm not talking about-
10:59 - That was your boy, Gary.
11:00 Stop it.
11:01 - I'm not talking about,
11:02 I'm not talking about how everything was bad,
11:03 but he was a difficult dude to cover.
11:08 - I have heard that.
11:09 - Because he was so damn,
11:10 partly because he was so damn smart.
11:12 But he's a brilliant guy on the floor.
11:17 And if he wants to make that transition and say,
11:20 "Okay, I'm done playing.
11:22 I think that's a good thing."
11:24 I think the Celtics would be best suited to Adam.
11:26 - Rondo is one of the most intelligent basketball players
11:31 I've ever covered.
11:32 He has intellect and vision,
11:36 and a lot of them just a basketball moxie
11:38 that very few players, I think,
11:40 who played in this game have had.
11:42 That being said,
11:43 there's a reason why guys like him
11:49 are difficult to deal with at times,
11:51 because they know a lot.
11:52 And sometimes the challenge for them
11:54 isn't necessarily being a smart ass and such,
11:57 it's getting others to see what they see.
12:01 I think that's always been a challenge with Rondo,
12:04 is getting others to understand just where he's at
12:08 from a basketball IQ standpoint.
12:10 That being said,
12:12 if he's willing to kind of humble himself a little bit
12:15 and teach,
12:16 because I think Rondo will be an amazing teacher
12:18 of the game,
12:19 because of the insight that he has
12:21 and just some of the basketball instincts
12:23 that he brings to the table,
12:25 he would be a major plus for the Celtics.
12:27 And I don't think with Rondo,
12:29 I think more than anything else,
12:32 his presence will be the value
12:35 that he brings to that staff.
12:36 The fact that he can talk guys
12:38 through some incredibly difficult situations
12:41 that they may never even contemplate
12:44 that they might be having to deal with,
12:46 that when he brings it up, it's like,
12:47 "Oh damn, you know what?
12:49 I remember when that happened."
12:51 Or, "You know what?
12:52 I might have to deal with that when we play Denver."
12:54 Or, "I might have to think about
12:56 how am I going to address that particular thing
12:58 when we play this guy."
12:59 Rondo has that type of intellect
13:04 that to me is priceless.
13:07 And as Gary pointed out,
13:08 he can be difficult at times to deal with,
13:10 but at the end of the day,
13:14 as a player, it comes down to,
13:15 what do you do between those lines?
13:17 And as a coach, it comes down to,
13:19 how do you prepare the guys that you are assigned
13:21 to perform between those lines?
13:23 And I think Rondo, he would be a great fit.
13:25 And Gary, to your point about him and Brad,
13:28 that was a relationship that took a little time
13:29 to get going.
13:31 I mean, Gary, you remember the birthday debacle
13:36 where Rondo went one place for his birthday
13:39 and wasn't with the team.
13:40 It was weird.
13:45 But that's just Rondo being Rondo.
13:47 I mean, but-
13:48 - Wait, what's the story?
13:50 You can't tell the story.
13:51 - It was Rondo's birthday,
13:53 and he went to, I think it was Sacramento,
13:56 or he stayed in LA one of the two.
13:59 It was separated from the team,
14:00 and it got real weird.
14:02 Like, why did he do that?
14:04 But I wasn't mad at him,
14:06 'cause I mean, he went out there,
14:07 and I think he played and played pretty well.
14:09 But Rondo, again, I think he has had enough time away
14:14 from the game to just really sit back
14:17 and see where does he fit in.
14:18 And to Gary's point, I think he's better in the pro level.
14:23 I just think that his intellect, I think,
14:27 can be that difference maker
14:29 in getting a team over the hump.
14:30 Whereas college kids, I don't know if they are gonna give
14:34 him the type of respect that he deserves.
14:38 'Cause they see Rondo as Mr. Ankle-breaking,
14:41 fake behind the back, lay up and all that,
14:43 and they don't understand that it's not
14:46 that his athleticism allowed him to do that,
14:48 it's his intellect and athleticism
14:50 that allowed him to do that.
14:51 I don't think he's gonna get the respect
14:53 if he were to go to the college game
14:54 for how well he thinks the game through versus playing it.
14:57 - Yeah, I mean, I think Rajon was tough to deal with
15:04 because of his intelligence, mainly.
15:07 I think he wanted to, I think he got bored
15:11 with being covered in the basic questions.
15:14 And he decided there would be times he decided,
15:16 "Okay, I'm gonna answer every question with three words."
15:19 Like there was just things he would just,
15:21 he would play mind games.
15:22 - Give himself a challenge.
15:24 - Yes, and that was-
15:25 - I found it kind of funny when it happened,
15:27 but I was the only one in the media
15:28 who thought it was funny.
15:29 - Yeah, yeah, he was the only one laughing.
15:30 So- - Like Marshall Lynch.
15:32 - So I think highly of Rajon Rondo.
15:38 I think as one of the most intelligent guys
15:40 I've ever covered, especially with basketball IQ,
15:43 I think it'd be a great idea if he's ready to hang them up.
15:48 You know, like remember when Tyronn Lue came on
15:52 to the Celtics staff and he was still kind of hanging
15:54 with the, but that was a veteran team
15:56 with KG, Paul, and Pierce.
15:58 And he was kind of still hanging with the guys
16:01 'cause he was younger than, sorry, younger than KG.
16:05 And he was younger than half the guys on the team.
16:10 And he still had to get the player out of them.
16:13 And I think has Rajon gotten the player out of them?
16:17 That's what I want to know.
16:19 And if he has, I think it's a great idea.
16:21 - All right, well, Brad, it's your move.
16:25 Moving on, Celtics did make a move this past week.
16:28 They signed Sve, I don't know, you know, Sve.
16:32 I'm just gonna call him Sve.
16:34 47th overall pick in the 2018 draft.
16:36 He played 32 games.
16:38 Z Cabangeli.
16:40 - Look, I'm, yeah, I'll say Cabangeli
16:42 'cause I just, every time I get his name, I'm like,
16:46 I'm just gonna say Z.
16:47 - Sve, I'm gonna give you a hard time last year
16:52 on the fondue.
16:54 I'm giving you a hard time.
16:55 - His name is Sveat Artislav Mihailov.
17:00 - All right, moment of silence for that.
17:05 - Very good, Sharron.
17:07 - Snaps.
17:08 - Yes, that guy is signed with Boston Celtics.
17:12 What do you two think he brings to the team?
17:16 What do you, do you think he even is gonna be a player,
17:20 you know, an eligible player at this point for them?
17:24 What do you, what is the mentality?
17:26 - He helps them from a depth standpoint.
17:29 They, as we know, Joe Mazzullo likes shooters.
17:33 He likes to have as many out there as possible.
17:35 And this is another guy that he can add to that mix.
17:38 And he's a guy that shoots, you know, mid forties
17:42 pretty much everywhere on the floor.
17:44 So I, and plus it's a very, I would say it's a low risk,
17:49 decent reward type of proposition.
17:53 I don't think we're talking about a guy
17:55 that's just gonna come in and be an all-star
17:56 or be a starter, but he's a guy
17:58 that can help them win some games.
18:00 The one concern I have about him,
18:02 and again, this is just me.
18:04 Actually, that's a lie.
18:05 It's me and a lot of me's out there concerned about this.
18:08 It's his defense.
18:09 It's not so much from a physical standpoint,
18:11 his foot movement and all that.
18:12 It's the fact that he's like six, seven, six, eight,
18:15 but he's got like a six, four, five-ish wingspan.
18:19 And that's, you know, that's not great
18:22 when you're not that athletically gifted to contest shots,
18:26 because not only are you at times maybe out of position,
18:29 but you don't even got the length to contest
18:31 because you don't have, you know,
18:32 your arms are shorter than,
18:35 it makes it a little bit tricky.
18:39 - Science, Gary, science.
18:41 - It makes it a little bit tricky.
18:43 But the thing that he has to do is he's gotta make shots.
18:46 I mean, he did it when he was in college at Kansas.
18:49 He's done it here and there at some of the different spots
18:51 he's been in the NBA,
18:52 but he hasn't really been a consistent, reliable guy,
18:55 even though his numbers might tell you he can help you.
18:58 I mean, a guy who's kind of an end of the bench guy
19:01 who averages about six points a game,
19:03 shoots better than 40%.
19:04 You wonder what can he do
19:05 if he's getting 10, 15 minutes a game?
19:07 I think that's a high mark for him,
19:10 but anything's possible with Joe Mazzuola and shooters.
19:13 - These are your hiring goals, they say.

20:54 Need to hire?
20:55 You need Indeed.
20:57 - Yeah, I think it's a solid signing.
21:00 I mean, he's always played well
21:01 against the Celtics over the years.
21:03 He's a guy with a lot of heart.
21:05 A lot of the guys who come from that part of the world,
21:08 they play hard, you know?
21:10 You can look at Slovenia and Serbia
21:12 and some of those guys in those countries,
21:15 those Eastern European countries,
21:16 they come to the States and they do Goran Drogic.
21:19 Those guys play their asses off,
21:20 but I just think that's what he's gonna bring.
21:22 A guy who's gonna play hard,
21:24 wanna get paid and eventually try to get a contract,
21:29 more guaranteed multi-year deal.
21:31 He's only 26.
21:32 I mean, that's the thing.
21:33 I mean, I barely remember him in Kansas.
21:35 When I saw he played four years at Kansas,
21:37 I was like, "When the heck would I miss that,
21:40 him playing four years at Kansas?"
21:43 He kinda just appeared in the NBA.
21:45 Like, I just don't remember him much playing for the Jayhawks,
21:49 but I think he's a guy that can help them.
21:52 Like Shara said,
21:53 he's won a couple of ball games here and there at depth.
21:56 Will he take minutes away from Sam Hauser?
22:01 Will they compete against each other for the same spot,
22:04 for the same role, for the same minutes?
22:06 That's what I have a concern about.
22:09 But I think what Brad has done is he's brought guys on
22:14 that he's gonna give them a shot.
22:15 Delano Banton, Shara's buddy, Ose Brissett,
22:19 Svi, you know, Kevin Gelley.
22:23 The guys that he signed, I'm being funny,
22:27 Svi, the guys that he signed, it's, "Prove it to us.
22:31 This is your chance, chance to get some minutes,
22:34 a chance to prove yourself.
22:36 What can you do on a championship caliber club?"
22:39 And I think it's another challenge to those guys.
22:42 The challenge of those guys is stick.
22:44 A lot of those guys have played in the G League
22:46 or Brissett playing in Indiana teams
22:49 that weren't very good and Banton playing.
22:52 A lot of times with the Raptors, 905 G League team
22:55 or here and there in a big club
22:57 and Svi playing in Detroit and playing in Charlotte.
23:00 Well, this is the big stage.
23:02 This team has championship aspirations.
23:04 I'm sure all those guys in their mid-20s feeling like,
23:08 "Man, if I ever got a shot to play with a good team,
23:10 I'd dominate, I'd do, you know, dominate my role."
23:14 Not necessarily dominate the All-Star team,
23:16 but do well.
23:18 Well, this is your chance.
23:19 And for Svi, this is his chance.
23:21 And I think he'll take advantage.
23:23 I think he'll have a role,
23:25 he'll carve out a role in this team.
23:26 - So, excuse me, with that being said,
23:31 at this point in the,
23:33 as we still continue to gear up for the preseason,
23:36 do you two think that the Celtics look okay
23:40 or is there something else that you'd like to see?
23:42 - I wish they'd have another big.
23:46 I mean, that's just me.
23:46 - And there was a report, by the way,
23:47 that your guy, Blake Griffin, is not coming back.
23:51 So I think we can clear that up now.
23:53 At MassLive reported.
23:55 So, all the speculation that we've talked about,
24:00 he's not expected to report back to the Celtics.
24:04 - Yeah, I think they could use another big.
24:07 It feels as though they've checked off
24:12 pretty much every box of significance except that one.
24:15 As far as having,
24:17 and they may feel that they got enough depth now,
24:19 but my concern with their big situation
24:22 as it currently is constructed
24:24 is that so many of their core guys
24:26 are going to be on load management most of the season.
24:31 And that makes me nervous because at some point,
24:34 even outside of load management,
24:36 you might wind up having those guys
24:38 miss games here and there.
24:40 And without, I think, a really deep frontline,
24:44 I think it may cost them a game or two in the regular season
24:47 and hopefully it won't be a factor in the playoffs.
24:49 But the fact that they don't have, I think,
24:53 that deep, deep, deep frontline,
24:56 because that's just not who they are,
24:58 that's not their identity,
24:59 I think it might be one of those things
25:01 that could potentially hurt them
25:03 when games really, really matter most.
25:05 - Yeah, I agree with Sherrod in terms of the center position.
25:10 I'm not completely secure in terms of like,
25:15 you got Robert Williams who,
25:18 if you come in to this season
25:19 expecting him to play more than 60 games, you're crazy.
25:23 Even though he's healthy, he's just not,
25:25 he ain't gonna play no 75 games.
25:28 Al Horford is gonna be, is 37,
25:31 and we saw the signs of slowing down.
25:35 Luke Cornett's on a non-guaranteed deal.
25:38 That's your third center.
25:39 I think they need another athletic big,
25:42 but I think that their weight,
25:43 I think a guy I thought they should have signed
25:46 was Moses Brown, we're gonna go to Portland.
25:49 I just think he's a raw, young, athletic big
25:53 who could have helped them.
25:54 But there's other guys out there
25:56 that are on clubs right now that are likely to get weighed,
25:59 training in training camp, trying to make a club
26:02 that I think the Celtics are gonna wait on it right now.
26:05 No, they're not crazy about the market.
26:06 I wrote a story about this,
26:08 like the guys out there who are like,
26:12 Dwayne Deadman, Bismack Biambo,
26:15 guys that you're like,
26:18 "Yeah, do those two names excite you?"
26:21 Probably not, it's like a third center.
26:23 But a team like Oklahoma City,
26:27 a team, there's teams with 20 guys
26:29 on their training camp roster,
26:32 they're gonna have to cut some waves, some guys,
26:35 and I think the Celtics,
26:35 and they have that open roster spot,
26:37 so I think the Celtics will wait on that
26:40 and try to get a quality third big.
26:42 'Cause I think if you're relying on Luke Cornett
26:45 to be that guy, I just, I don't think Celtic fan,
26:49 I don't think the Celtics are probably as secure with that
26:52 as being a number three guy.
26:53 Although good guy, good locker room guy,
26:56 does as best as he can, nothing wrong with Luke
26:59 as a player, he plays hard, does everything you ask him to,
27:03 but as a third center to block shots,
27:06 to get that key rebound,
27:08 especially when Robert and Al are both health-wise
27:13 and time, load management-wise,
27:16 probably gonna not play, I mean, Al might play 60 games,
27:20 Robert, if he plays 60 games,
27:22 I think the Celtics management would do back flips,
27:25 'cause he played 35 last year.
27:27 So they've gotta get a third reliable big.
27:31 The thing about Blake Griffin that I wrote,
27:34 and I just feel like great locker room guy,
27:38 but for whatever reason, Joe lost trust in him
27:41 toward the second half of the season.
27:42 Remember Noah Vonley made the team out of camp last year,
27:47 but then he couldn't stay out of foul trouble,
27:49 couldn't, just couldn't find his way.
27:52 And then he was waived before his contract was guaranteed.
27:56 And then Blake ended up just kind of being more of a cheerleader
27:59 toward the second half of the season.
28:00 You need a guy who can come in
28:02 and give you 12 minutes, 13 minutes.
28:05 And we can talk about, should they go old?
28:08 Should they bring in Sharive's close friend,
28:11 DeMarcus Cousins, or Dwight Howard?
28:15 Dwight Howard's out there.
28:17 Should they go old and just bring in,
28:21 I don't think they would do that.
28:23 I think that they feel like that
28:24 that's too much affecting team chemistry,
28:27 but I do think they'll wait for camp
28:31 and figure out if a guy gets cut early, claim him,
28:35 because there's a lot of guys out there right now,
28:38 some rosters that are going to get,
28:40 some quality players that are going to get released
28:42 and not make their teams.
28:43 - Any final thoughts, Sherrod, as you ponder on that?
28:50 - You know, I'm just not, no.
28:57 I'm just not, no.
28:58 - No, it's like Brad.
29:03 Brad's just waiting to see at this point.
29:05 - No, I mean, Brad knows what he's doing.
29:07 I mean, Brad is out here playing chess
29:09 while the rest of us are looking at our checkerboard.
29:12 So, and I respect that.
29:14 I mean, they're going to make,
29:18 they're going to address this in some capacity.
29:20 It's a matter of how, not if.
29:23 And Brad's going to be, you know,
29:26 be as astute as he's been throughout this whole process
29:29 of being in the position that he's in.
29:30 And he's going to figure out what they need to do.
29:32 'Cause even though we're thinking
29:34 that they may have a certain need, you know,
29:38 opportunities to enhance another part of the roster
29:41 might materialize where they can get a better chemistry,
29:44 a better mix of talent.
29:46 So, no, I'm good.
29:49 I'm good.
29:50 I'm curious as hell, though,
29:52 to see what Brad's going to do, though.
29:53 'Cause he's done a really good job,
29:56 I think, of keeping fans and the media
29:58 and all of us kind of guessing
29:59 as to what the hell he's going to do next.
30:01 And more times than not, he's made the right call.
30:04 He's been able to get some really important additions
30:08 to the roster that you didn't really see coming.
30:11 So, like Gary's boy, O'Shea Bursette, big pickup.
30:15 - Besties.
30:16 - That's Gary's defensive player of the year.
30:18 You know that, right?
30:19 - Not true.
30:20 - Yeah, I think he'll do well.
30:22 I think he'll flourish in his role
30:24 as much as I hate to say it
30:27 because I hate to give any Syracuse guys any compliments.
30:30 Yeah, we see it, Sherrod.
30:34 We see it every week.
30:35 - We don't want to see it.
30:37 - Yeah, where's the Gigi Duttoni jersey
30:39 after US smacked up Italy?
30:42 I don't see that.
30:43 You just conveniently took that down, right?
30:46 - Yeah, I did.
30:46 I did.
30:47 - He really did.
30:48 Wow, you're really gonna notice.
30:49 - Yeah, I did.
30:50 - He's gonna be hanging.
30:51 - Right?
30:52 - He's hanging today.
30:53 But I do think that, like Sherrod said,
30:56 Brad's gonna make a good call.
30:58 I do think that they do need a third big.
31:01 And then we'll see what happens at point guard.
31:02 Like, I'm not wholly convinced that Derek can play
31:06 like full-time NBA point guard.
31:08 Like, that's gonna be interesting.
31:10 And obviously no more than me, but just seeing it,
31:13 is he gonna be able to tell guys where to go,
31:15 what to do, be that floor commander, that floor leader,
31:19 in kind of his quiet style,
31:21 because he's not a real talkative guy.
31:23 He just does it.
31:24 He just gets it done on the floor.
31:26 I'm fascinated with that,
31:28 that they kind of left that spot open when trading Marcus
31:31 and said, "Okay, Derek, this is you.
31:34 "And we'll see what happens and camp
31:37 "and how that all goes when we see the preseason."
31:39 But we're about a month away from the first preseason game.
31:43 But I'm curious about that too.
31:47 - Well, we have a lot to continue talking about
31:50 over the course of preseason and the season.
31:52 So there's nothing to fret about.
31:54 Of course, I wanna thank you all for listening
