06:03Now, everybody loves going to the beach, especially in California,
06:07so it's no surprise that the bathing suit business
06:11is a multibillion-dollar business.
06:13And one of the finest designers anywhere in the world of bathing suits is...
06:18Trina Turk.
06:19You will all actually design and manufacture
06:22a line of men's and women's swimwear for Trina.
06:26You'll be paired with a design consultant,
06:28hair and makeup artists, models, the works,
06:31and you'll put on a fashion show right here at the beach
06:34for prospective buyers.
06:36Trina Turk herself will actually emcee the whole fashion show.
06:40The team that makes the most money
06:42selling their swimsuits to the buyers wins.
06:45That sounds pretty exciting.
06:47Okay, to really inspire you to do your best,
06:50I'm going to do something different.
06:53Quite simply, if your team wins,
06:56you will not have to participate in a task next week.
07:00The winning team will be exempt from being fired.
07:04Losers will meet me in the boardroom where somebody will be fired.
07:09Okay? Good luck.
07:11So whoever wins this task not only gets the reward
07:15and gets to continue to sleep in the house,
07:17but they're exempt from the next task.
07:19So not only do we not lose a team member,
07:23we get to stay in the house.
07:25It's huge, huge stakes.
07:41You guys, I promise you, the next 30 hours is going to be painful.
07:45That pain that we feel won't last very long
07:48until we hear that we win the task.
07:50We will forever have the glory of winning this task.

07:55I was ready to be project manager of this task
07:57because I was ready to lead this team.
07:59My leadership style is to really motivate people.
08:02That is my biggest thing, is just to make sure
08:04that everybody's so happy that they give it their all.
08:07Okay, what type of theme are we envisioning right now?
08:10Trina isn't, you know, overly sexy.
08:12You know, she isn't chic.
08:14She's just kind of fun, young.
08:16Different, upscale.
08:18I was definitely inspired right away
08:20by the idea of designing for Trina Turk.
08:22I've seen fashion shows where people design things,
08:24and I've always, like, man, that's going to be
08:26really, really cool to do someday,
08:28and this is my one opportunity to do it.
08:30This is my first design right here.
08:32This is all print around, maybe the exception of the band.
08:35You've got to be careful because the print's got to be masculine
08:38if the shorts are that small.
08:40So Kerry's got his notebook out,
08:42and he's designing different styles for the men,
08:45short, tight, trunk cuts.
08:48The men's swimsuits that Kerry wears
08:51are probably not the same men's swimsuits
08:53that most of the guys in America wear,
08:55because Kerry's gay.
08:57That was something that kind of caught me off guard.
09:00That's why I came along.
09:02I want you to give your opinion.
09:04I want to give my straight male opinion.
09:10We're going to do elastic. This is the one we go on.
09:13Two female bikinis are one color each with embellishments.
09:16What if we did something where it was like an outline, like a white...
09:19The overall theme of our design is really beachwear,
09:22but kind of, like, kicked up a notch.
09:24Come on, hot stuff, let's go.
09:26Stuff that other stores wouldn't have,
09:28but without being so ridiculous that no one would buy it.
09:30I think it's great. Yeah, I really do.
09:32I'm not thrilled. I'll tell you guys right now why.
09:34I think it looks too Ralph Lauren.

09:38We're not going for classic.
09:40I don't think Heidi liked anything about the first bathing suit,
09:42which is really, I think, just her opinion.
09:44And you don't think that we could go into her store right now
09:46with that bathing suit and put together an entire ensemble
09:48and it wouldn't look fabulous? I disagree totally.
09:50It was a little tense for me and Heidi today.
09:52That was the first time for her and I that it has been,
09:54but it just is what it is.

10:12then Marissa's going to be accountable for it.

10:38It's a trumpet skirt, just white as glass.

10:42After working for hours, you know,
10:44and going through the design process,
10:46the first suit was ready and was made,
10:48and I got excited.
10:50Man, I, like, wow,
10:52this came from my head to paper to print,
10:54and now it's here.
10:56It was the first thing we had of our line.
10:58All right, so they're on.
11:04I like it. I do, too.
11:06This design is designed
11:08for one kind of consumer,
11:10the consumer that has a great body
11:12that's going to the beach that wants you to look at them,
11:14and I think that there is a market for that.
11:16It's so different.
11:18When I first saw the little suit,
11:20my instinct was,
11:22oh, that's a bikini bottom for a female,
11:24and I was sure it was,
11:26and then I saw Carrie wearing it,
11:28and I was like, oh, Carrie's trying to be funny wearing a female bikini,
11:30and then it hit me that that's our male suit.
11:32Is this the final product, or is this just a sample?
11:34I don't like it.
11:38I'm telling you that it's what she likes.
11:40I know you love it, but...
11:42I mean, you're really falling on deaf ears at this point.
11:44Michelle's personality is definitely isolating her.
11:46Sometimes if someone says something,
11:48if you don't agree with it,
11:50you don't really have to say anything, but that's fine.
11:52You don't agree with it, you keep going,
11:54and because Michelle doesn't have that,
11:56a lot of the guys are not connecting with Michelle.
11:58It's different consumers, different people, different buyers.

12:32that I needed my team behind me.
12:34So I went around the room
12:36and asked everybody an exact number
12:38of what they think that price should be.

12:46because, I mean, this was all on James and you,
12:48and that's what you guys are working on.

14:46So without further ado,
14:48let's begin with the collection
14:50from Kinetic Corporation.
14:54Christine is wearing a vintage one-piece halter.
14:56West Coast optimism
14:58meets mid-century nostalgia
15:00in a plunging halter suit.
15:02Ryan is wearing a turquoise board short.
15:04A modern man likes to strut his stuff,
15:06show off your sense of style
15:08and your assets.
15:10Casual and cute, this look goes from sporty

15:18bask in the sunshine or just chill.
15:20That's the mantra when you have

16:24Valley cool and retro reminiscent,
16:26this piece appeals to all the gents.
16:28A sexy swimsuit for any beau,
16:30this piece is not for the faint of heart.
16:42Out comes Carrie.
16:44I mean, again, I'm gay,
16:46but what a shock it was.
16:48He's got nipples erect,
16:50his fiercest runway walk.
16:52Granted, the guy looked good,
16:54but literally, they needed to get a fire extinguisher
16:56on that runway because he flamed it up.
16:58I mean, on fire.
17:02A departure from the average white bikini,
17:04this suit features gorgeous
17:06turquoise accent rings and stones throughout.
17:08I like that better.

17:12Crochet and coolness typify this classic

17:18It felt absolutely amazing to walk
17:20down that runway. Takes a lot of guts

28:52One, we knew that Trina Turk had gay consumers.

28:56isn't about necessarily catering to the consumer.
28:58It's catering to the buyer who's going to be purchasing for the consumer.

29:02and they didn't want that suit.
