00:00As requested, guys, we got the S20 FE versus the S23 FE.
00:05The S23 FE, just spending time with a pretty decent phone, but again, one of the most confusing
00:10releases from Samsung this year price-wise, and somebody said the price went up 30 bucks
00:17on Samsung's website, so I don't know.
00:20It's an interesting phone, but I'm going to do the comparisons as promised anyway.
00:23All right, so let's go ahead and get started here.
00:26So again, the S23 FE comes in at $600 or $630 brand new, and the reason why it's so confusing
00:34is because you can get an S23, but it will be used for $600, but still.
00:41And then the S20 FE, still a great phone you could find easily in the used refurbished
00:45marketplace for like $200 in that price range.
00:49All right, so let's go ahead and look at the design.
00:51So you do get a pretty nice design upgrade here.
00:54The S23 definitely looks a little bit more modern than the S20 FE.
00:59Now, the big difference here is that you do have a glass and metal design on the S23 FE,
01:05and the S20 does have a matted plastic back.
01:09It still has the metal rails, but it has a plastic back on it, so it doesn't feel as
01:13premium as the S23.
01:17As far as the body goes, you guys can see that different camera design as well.
01:26So just a little bit more up-to-date design here as well, and the S23 FE does feel a little
01:34bit more, I don't know, it feels a little bit sharper, not by a lot.
01:41They're both kind of like, they both feel pretty comfortable in the hand, but it does
01:44feel a little bit sharper, like right here.
01:48You can kind of feel that.
01:49You can't really feel that on the S20.
01:53Both phones have IP68 dust and water resistant, but the biggest difference with the hardware
01:58is the S20 FE has micro SD card support, the S23 does not.
02:03So you do have expandable storage on the S20.
02:06Let's talk about the display on both of these two phones.
02:09The S20 does have a Super AMOLED display, 120Hz HDR10+, it's 6.5 inch display on here,
02:16it's 1080p 407 for the PPI.
02:19The S23 FE, it does have a 6.4 inch display, so it's slightly smaller, but not really that
02:25noticeable, right?
02:27And then you also have on here the dynamic AMOLED display, 120Hz HDR10+, and it is 1450
02:34nits peak brightness, it's 1080p 403 for the PPI.
02:39So overall, when you're just looking at the displays head on, I mean they both look pretty
02:44much identical in my opinion.
02:46Even though you have a higher PPI on the S23, you can't really notice it too much.
02:51They still, you know, the S20 still looks super, super sharp.
02:56The S20 is also not as bright as the S23 FE in direct sunlight, but it's definitely, you
03:03know, I don't have any major issues with the outdoors, like taking pictures outdoors
03:08with it, but it is noticeably brighter, the S23 FE.
03:13Also, you have pretty much the same amount of bezel on here as well too, so, you know,
03:20there's no really upgrading that.
03:21They both have the punch hole, and like I said, there's really not a major difference
03:25with the display.
03:26The only real difference is, like I said, the S23 FE is slightly brighter outdoors,
03:33but they kind of look the same essentially.
03:35All right, so let's talk about the specs a little bit more.
03:38I got the Geekbench scores pulled up here for you guys.
03:41The S20 FE does have the Snapdragon 865 chip on here.
03:45Like I said, it does have micro SD card support, 128 gigs of internal storage, and 6 gigs of
03:50RAM.
03:51That is this model.
03:52And then we also have the S23 FE has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.
03:56No SD card support, 128 gigs of internal storage, and 8 gigs of RAM, and that is this model
04:01right here.
04:03And you guys can see, there is a really nice difference here with the single and the multi-core
04:08score.
04:09Now, is there a big difference when it comes to overall speed?
04:14Now if we get into like a little speed test, there is like a minimal difference, guys.
04:20Yes, the S23 is going to be faster, but it's really not by much, and the S20 FE is really
04:26not slow by any means.
04:28And again, this is the Snapdragon version.
04:30I know a lot of guys overseas have the Xenos version, but if you have the Snapdragon version,
04:35I'm not seeing a big difference at all when it comes to speed and performance on here.
04:41Just with animations and stuff like that, because of the updates with Samsung with OneUI,
04:47they've made the S20 FE pretty smooth.
04:49Because I remember when it first came out, it was kind of a little bit glitchy as far
04:55as animation goes.
04:56It was never a slow phone.
04:57It was just kind of glitchy with animations, but now it's like buttery smooth running Android.
05:03It's very, very impressive.
05:05So the phone, to me, has actually gotten smoother over time.
05:10So like I said, even just dealing with animations and stuff, scrolling, not a big, big difference
05:18when it comes to overall speed.
05:23Here is a big difference.
05:24The S20 FE is currently getting security patches.
05:28So it got its last major OS update with Android 13, OneUI 5.1.
05:33So you're no longer getting major OS updates.
05:36Of course, the S23 will get four years of major OS updates and security patches.
05:41This is currently, like I said, in its security patch stage.
05:45As far as software, you're not missing out on anything at all.
05:48They pretty much have the same thing.
05:49Samsung desktop support, all the features are basically on here still.
05:55So you're not missing anything when it comes to software.
05:58And also guys, like I was saying earlier with the gaming performance, the S20 FE is still
06:03a pretty solid gamer.
06:06As we can see here, even for PUBG, we can still do HDR 60 frames.
06:12And like I said, very smooth.
06:13I've never had this phone crash on me.
06:15It's never had any heating problems or anything like that.
06:19It's just an overall really solid performer when it comes to games.
06:23So like I said, it can pretty much play anything in the Play Store at pretty good settings.
06:30So like I said, there's not a big difference, in my opinion, from the HN1.
06:35The HN1, as you can see, we can also see if we got 90 frames on here.
06:39No.
06:4190 frames.
06:42But essentially the same settings and it feels virtually the same.
06:47Like I said, performance on here, unless you're a hardcore gamer, but like I said, even if
06:52you play a lot of games, I don't think the difference is big enough, you know, to make
06:57a big upgrade.
06:59Or at least I don't think, when it comes to power and speed, I don't think this is a big
07:02enough upgrade.
07:04Both phones have stereo speakers.
07:05Let's see if we have a speaker upgrade here, max volume.
07:22Yeah, there is a pretty significant upgrade when it comes to the speakers.
07:49It almost makes the S20 FE sound kind of flat.
07:52In comparison, there's way more bass and there's a fuller sound on the S23 for sure.
07:58As far as the fingerprint scanner goes, they're both optical, so they pretty much work the
08:02same in terms of speed.
08:05The ultrasonic ones you can sort of lightly tap, but these optical ones you kind of have
08:11to apply just a little bit of pressure to it.
08:13And then, you know, they pretty much feel the same and they both can do face unlock
08:17as well too.
08:18Let's talk about the cameras on here, starting with the S20 FE here.
08:24So the S20 FE, it does have a 12 megapixel standard and an 8 megapixel telephoto.
08:29It has 3x optical zoom.
08:31It also has a 12 megapixel ultra wide.
08:33It shoots in 4K 60 and then a 32 megapixel selfie cam that shoots in 4K 60 as well.
08:40You have that 3x zoom and then you have a max 30x zoom on here as well.
08:45So you are getting upgraded cameras with the S23 FE.
08:48You have a 50 megapixel standard, an 8 megapixel telephoto, 3x optical, and then at 30x for
08:55the max zoom.
08:56And then you also have a 12 megapixel ultra wide.
08:58It shoots in 8K 24, then a 10 megapixel selfie on here as well too that can shoot in 4K 60.
09:04All right, so check out the side-by-side stills and video.
09:07Let me know what you guys think.
10:48Now, let's talk about battery life.
10:53I've been pretty impressed with the S23's battery life and its standby time.
10:58It's doing a fantastic job.
11:00So it does have on here a 4,500 milliamp hour battery, 25 watt charging, and wireless charging.
11:06The S20 FE actually has the same.
11:09It has 4,500 milliamp hour battery, 25 watt charging, wireless charging, and reverse wireless
11:15charging as well.
11:16So the battery specs are the same, but I'm getting better screen on time and better standby
11:22time with the S23 FE.
11:24And it could be because of the S20 FE is an older phone, so you might have a little bit
11:29of battery degrade.
11:31But yeah, the S20 FE, I can still squeeze about like six hours of screen on time out
11:36of this phone.
11:37And again, if you're a light user, if you play games, you definitely will have to charge
11:42this.
11:43But I feel like still, even if the S20 was brand new, this phone is getting better screen
11:48on time.
11:49All right, so that is pretty much it.
11:51So what do you guys think?
11:53Be sure to let me know, and I'll catch you guys.
