00:00What's up guys, as requested we got the S20 FE versus the S24 FE.
00:07Be sure to put those requests down.
00:09I want to get through the rest of these comparisons at least by next week.
00:14Alright, so let's go ahead and get into it.
00:17I think this could be a pretty good upgrade for the most part.
00:21The S20 FE is still a very popular phone and it's a phone that I like to recommend to people
00:26who are on a tight budget.
00:28You can find this phone legit like $130 on Ebay.
00:32It's a very cheap phone and what I like about this phone is it's still getting security
00:35patches and you still have the SD card support which is something that we're seeing less
00:41and less as the years go on.
00:44So let's go ahead and jump into it.
00:45A Galaxy S24 FE is quite expensive these days.
00:50It's going to cost you around $650 but these usually fall in price.
00:55Give it like a couple months, they'll fall in price.
00:57You'll see this phone probably around like $500.
01:00So let's kick it off with the hardware here.
01:03So let's take a look and see what we're working with.
01:07The S24 is definitely the bigger device here for sure and you'll definitely notice it when
01:14you hold it in the hand.
01:16You know it just feels overall bigger because we have a bigger screen on this phone now.
01:20What you will notice is that it definitely feels a lot more premium since we are using
01:25a glass back and the S20 FE, it has a metal side but it is using a plastic back and probably
01:34the biggest thing that you'll notice here is the updated design.
01:38The S20 FE definitely looks like an older flagship for sure.
01:43Now when it comes to the overall specs on the hardware, they're both IP68 dust and water
01:49resistant which is very good and they both feel really good to hold in the hand.
01:53I think the S20 FE is actually a lot more comfortable to hold.
01:57You kind of have like this sharp kind of scratchy feeling on the S20 FE but the palm, it feels
02:05good on both of these phones.
02:07So overall for the hardware, you're getting the updated design and that's pretty much
02:12it.
02:13You're not really getting much and you are again losing the SD card support with the
02:17S24.
02:18Alright so let's talk about the display.
02:20So I want to talk about the S24 FE's display first here and how to fix the vividness problem.
02:27So this display was not vivid when it came out of the box here.
02:33So what we're going to do is you're going to go into the display settings, click on
02:37vivid, click on advanced settings and then this was all the way back here.
02:42For some reason it wasn't even in the middle.
02:45Slide it all the way up and then you'll get the same vividness that you will get on the
02:49older Samsung flagships.
02:50I don't know why Samsung does this.
02:54Maybe the way that they have it stock is how, you know, a lot of, I guess it's the more
02:59natural look I guess for the screens but if you're a Samsung fan, you're going to like
03:03the more colorful screens.
03:05That's what Samsung is known for.
03:07So that's all you have to do to fix the kind of dull display on the S24 FE.
03:12It was the same problem with the S24 Ultra as well too.
03:15So I'm glad that, you know, that's there so you can change that.
03:19Now as far as the colors go, I would say they pretty much look identical now which is very
03:24good.
03:25So it matches the older displays in terms of color.
03:28As far as the specs go, you have a 6.7 inch display on the S24 FE.
03:34It is a dynamic AMOLED.
03:36It's 120Hz HDR10+.
03:38You have a 1900 nits peak brightness on here.
03:41It's 1080p, 385 for the PPI and it has the Gorilla Glass Victus Plus on here.
03:48You have a 6.5 inch display on the S20 FE.
03:52It is a super AMOLED.
03:53It is 120Hz HDR10+, 1080p, 407 for the PPI.
03:59This is running the Gorilla Glass 3.
04:01So overall, you do have an updated display in terms of the overall max brightness.
04:08So if you're outdoors, you will really notice that you can see the S24 FE a lot easier as
04:13well too.
04:14What's crazy is the bezels are almost kind of the same on here which is a little bit
04:19disappointing.
04:22So you guys can see that.
04:23So I would say the display upgrade is, there's not really much of an upgrade here besides
04:29the size difference.
04:31So you would have to make your mind up if you want a bigger phone.
04:33But the real upgrade is the max brightness.
04:36So this does get noticeably brighter in direct sunlight.
04:39But that's about it.
04:40I would say screen quality is not that different and overall the bezels are actually not really
04:45that different at all.
04:46So yeah, that's pretty much it.
04:48Let's talk about the specs here a little more.
04:51So on the S20, we got the last major OS update was Android 13.
04:56This phone is running the Snapdragon 865 chipset, one of the most efficient and just very good
05:02chipsets.
05:03I'm always impressed with this chip.
05:06So we also have SD card support, 128GB of internal storage, 6GB of RAM on here on the
05:12base model.
05:13So we do have a much faster chipset here now, the Exynos 2400E.
05:18It is 128GB of internal storage and 8GB of RAM.
05:22You can see the score difference here.
05:23You are getting a much faster phone when it comes to the overall benchmarks.
05:27You can get into a little app opening test here.
05:31Check out the animations here.
05:34So one of the things to notice here is that you are coming to the end of the lifespan
05:40as far as security patches with the S20 FE, which again, I always tell people it's not
05:45really that big of a deal, but you aren't going to get any more software updates.
05:50This is going to get 7 years of major OS updates, so that could be convincing for you guys who
05:55are thinking about updating.
05:59You also do have the Galaxy AI features on the S24 FE.
06:07As far as speed and animations go at, you guys can see it's pretty much on par with
06:12each other, but it's definitely a little bit snappier on the S24, but I don't think it's
06:18really that noticeable, at least not to me at least.
06:23Let's try Geometry Dash.
06:29So these phones, they feel pretty much on par with speed, so that's what I was talking
06:32about guys.
06:33This 865 chip is really, really impressive.
06:36When we get into video games and stuff like that, the upgrade is definitely here for the
06:42most part because this chipset is overall just going to get you faster performance and
06:47overall for heavier games like Genshin and stuff like that.
06:51But like I said, you have to really be a competitive mobile gamer.
06:56As you can see, we've got PUBG running at 90 frames here, but this chipset has been
07:02pretty impressive.
07:03It's not really heating up or anything like that, and it's been a pretty good experience
07:08for the most part.
07:09But the issue with this is that the S20 FE also can play at pretty good frame rates as
07:17well too.
07:18As you can see, we've got HDR Extreme here, and it does a pretty good job with PUBG even
07:24though we're at 60 frames.
07:26So I would say if you are a competitive gamer, then it would be worth it if you are somebody
07:33who really plays games.
07:34If you don't really play games, you could easily come in here, play PUBG at HDR Extreme,
07:40smooth 60 frames.
07:42You could play Call of Duty fine on here, and then you also don't have to give up your
07:46SD card support and stuff like that.
07:48You can expand the storage and put more content on here.
07:51So it really depends on where you're at in terms of the gaming experience because the
07:55overall CPU performance here is not really that big of a deal if you're not really into
08:01gaming like that.
08:02So I need to briefly touch on the Galaxy AI stuff.
08:06The AI stuff is not really my favorite thing about phones right now.
08:10This is the direction we're moving into.
08:13You don't have, of course, any AI features on the S20 FE, but if this stuff interests
08:18you, then I'll go ahead and bring it up and show you.
08:21This is the kind of stuff that you can do on here.
08:23They have a lot of cool stuff, and since you have seven years of updates, they're going
08:27to be adding a lot more AI stuff.
08:30So it's something that you have to see if you are interested in.
08:35The AI stuff is kind of useful, but they have stuff on here that I just never use.
08:41But it really depends on you as a person.
08:45But you do have all of this stuff that you could take advantage of.
08:47So a lot of people are going to be upgrading for these cameras here.
08:51So on the S24, you do have a 50 megapixel standard and 8 megapixel telephoto.
08:58It has three times optical zoom, and then you can go all the way up to 30 times zoom.
09:02You also do have on here a 12 megapixel ultra wide on here as well, and then you also can
09:07shoot in 8K30.
09:09You also do have on here a selfie camera at 10 megapixels that can shoot in 4K60.
09:15Now on the S20 FE here, you have a 12 megapixel standard and 8 megapixel telephoto.
09:22This one does three times optical zoom, and you can also go up to 30 times zoom on here.
09:28And then you also do have 4K60 video on here with a 32 megapixel selfie that shoots in
09:344K60.
09:35So check out these side-by-side stills.
09:37Let me know what you guys think.
11:16So we got the speakers at max volume.
11:26We'll start with the S20.
11:46Wow.
11:47I never noticed how flat the S20 FE was.
11:56Yeah, you could barely hear the bass compared to on the S24.
12:07So definitely a speaker upgrade for sure.
12:11The S20 FE doesn't sound horrible quality-wise.
12:14It's just lacking in the bass department.
12:18Yeah, so definitely a better speaker, which is crazy because this speaker is not even
12:22that good.
12:24But let's go ahead and talk about the biometrics here.
12:28Face unlock feels the same, and also the fingerprint scanners, they're both still the optical ones.
12:35So they work the same.
12:36I don't really have an issue with it.
12:37All right, so let's talk about the battery life experience on both of these phones.
12:41All right, so the battery life is actually much better on the S24 FE by a lot, actually.
12:49Standby time is much better.
12:50So that's one of the things I always pay attention to.
12:52Standby time is much, much better on the S24 FE.
12:56And overall, your screen-on time is going to be better.
12:58So on this phone, you do have a 4,700 mAh battery on the S24 FE versus the 4,500 mAh
13:07battery.
13:08So you are getting a bigger battery.
13:09And overall, this chipset seems to be more efficient, so your standby time and screen-on
13:14time is just going to be better.
13:16You also do have basically the same charging speeds at 25 watts, and then you have your
13:20wireless and reverse wireless charging on here as well, too.
13:24And yes, the S20 FE, for those who are asking, has Samsung desktop support.
13:34But yeah, that's pretty much it.
13:35That pretty much wraps up the comparison.
13:37So overall, it is a pretty decent upgrade for the most part.
13:41The biggest con here is that you're going to be giving up the SD card support.
13:46And also, it really depends on what you thought about the improvements that are here.
13:51The design improvements, and then we also got to talk about the screen improvements
13:56were kind of minimal.
13:57The biggest thing for me is actually the chipset is a lot better on here, and you get more
14:02software updates.
14:03But besides that, I mean, if you are on the fence, I would say keep your S20 FE and just
14:09kind of use it until it doesn't work anymore at this point, because it's still such a great
14:13phone.
14:14I don't really see too many flaws with it, but it comes down also to the camera comparison.
14:19That is a big one for a lot of people, what you thought about the pictures.
14:23Do you see the S20 FE?
14:25Are the pictures getting a bit dated for you?
14:27You have to kind of make that decision.
14:29Let me know what you guys think, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
