00:00What's up guys, today we're going to be updating my top 5 best mid-range phones for this mid-2024.
00:06So I want to kick it off with the Moto G Stylus.
00:09So a lot of people, if they don't like old flagships and stuff like that, I've been recommending
00:13this phone a lot.
00:14It's a phone that, you know, when I picked it up, it really surprised me because it was
00:18just a really good phone.
00:19I think this only has kind of like one flaw for a mid-range phone.
00:23But for the price point, $200 locked, somewhere around $300 unlocked.
00:28It's got a all-plastic design, which the phone doesn't necessarily feel cheap.
00:32It's got this really cool soft texture back on it as well too.
00:36Most people will put a case on it anyway, but I really did like the back of this phone.
00:41So it's water repellent, so it's not IP60 anything.
00:44So if you drop it in a pool or something, it's probably going to break.
00:48You do have the built-in stylus on here as well too, which is fairly accurate.
00:52You can use it to navigate the phone or you could do digital artwork and stuff like that.
00:58But with the stylus, it does work perfectly fine and Motorola has a bunch of little features
01:02thrown in there as well too.
01:03It's got a 6.7-inch P-OLED display.
01:06It's 120 Hz at 1200 nits peak brightness and it's 1080p 395 for the PPI.
01:12Overall, it's a pretty nice looking display for the most part.
01:15Respectable bezels, really good colors.
01:17The max brightness is decent for 2024.
01:20Overall, I really didn't have any issues with the display on here.
01:24My only thing is it's not HDR10 Plus or anything like that, but for this price point, I think
01:29the display looks great.
01:30So this phone is running Android 14 with the Moto skin on top of it.
01:35It's a lighter skin, but it does have a good amount of little features in there that I
01:40really like.
01:41So this phone is running the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
01:45It does have microSD card support.
01:46It also has a headphone jack built in and then you also have 128GB of internal storage
01:52and 8GB of RAM.
01:53The only thing with this phone is Motorola only promised one major OS update, then it'll
01:59get security patches after that.
02:00That's the only thing I didn't really like about this phone.
02:03But besides that, performance-wise, it's actually really good.
02:06The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chip does fine when you're playing video games like PUBG, it played
02:11that really well.
02:12Call of Duty, it was playing really well.
02:15Performance-wise, it's a very efficient chipset.
02:17So overall, the processor on here, it actually took me by surprise.
02:21It was really, really good, didn't heat up or anything like that.
02:24So I was really happy with the chipset on here.
02:26The speakers are fine, they're decent, nothing too special, they get loud enough.
02:31The fingerprint scanner is optical and it's really close to the bottom of the screen.
02:36That's my only thing, but it does work, so I don't really have an issue with that.
02:39Now the cameras on this phone are pretty good, it's a 50MP standard with a 13MP ultra-wide.
02:45Now it can only shoot in 1080p, 120 frames, and then 32MP selfie with 1080p60, so you
02:53don't get any 4K or anything like that for video.
02:55Now the overall image quality is actually pretty good, especially from the main lens.
03:00The ultra-wide does a pretty good job as well too.
03:02I was pretty surprised by image quality.
03:05You get pretty good colors, pretty good dynamic range, the ultra-wide pretty consistent with
03:09the main lens.
03:10Video on here was kind of okay, but it took pretty good pictures.
03:15I did comparisons with this phone if you guys want to check them out.
03:19So I wasn't really that mad at the picture quality.
03:22It was pretty decent for this price point.
03:24So this phone has really, really good battery life.
03:27It's a 5000mAh battery, it's 30W charging, and it also does have wireless charging, which
03:33is rare for a mid-range phone.
03:35So the battery life definitely lasts all day, so you don't really have to worry about battery
03:39life when it comes to this phone.
03:41So like I said, I'm pretty impressed with this phone, especially if you pick it up locked
03:45to a carrier like I did.
03:46For $200, this is a steal.
03:48Alright, so this next phone is the Pixel 6a, which is a phone that I really like, and for
03:52this person that asked about this particular device, if you have an extra $100, like $100,
03:59maybe $30, I would get the Pixel 7a, so I'm going to put that here as well too.
04:04And yeah, pick up one of these phones, it really depends on how tight the budget is,
04:09but I still like the Pixel 6a.
04:11It's still going to take extremely good steals, it's really, really good.
04:16I think it's still competitive, even with the latest flagships.
04:20So it's an aluminum frame, it's got a plastic back, it's IP67 dust and water resistant.
04:25It does have an OLED display, and it is somewhat compact at 6.1 inches, it's HDR, and it's
04:31a very comfortable, very easy phone to hold.
04:33It's 1080p, 429 for the PPI as well too.
04:37Overall, I have no issues with the display besides it not having any type of high refresh
04:42rate, so that's why I said if you get the 7a, that'll have a high refresh rate display.
04:48Now this phone got its last major update with Android 14, and it will continue to get security
04:53updates until October 2026.
04:56So you do have the Google Tensor chipset on here, which is, you know, still perfectly
05:00fine for pretty much anything you really throw at it as far as gaming performance.
05:05It still does a decent job, I wouldn't consider this really like a great gaming phone, but
05:09it does a pretty decent job in terms of being able to play, you know, PUBG Call of Duty
05:15just at, you know, alright settings.
05:17You also do have 128 gigs of internal storage and 6 gigs of RAM.
05:21The speakers actually sound really good on this phone as well too, that's another highlight
05:25I think.
05:26Really good amount of bass, very clear sound.
05:28The fingerprint scanner is okay, it's an optical one, gets the job done.
05:33But the highlight and what you're really buying this phone for, it's still one of the
05:37cheapest and best phones to take pictures with.
05:40It's a 12.2 megapixel standard with a 12 megapixel ultra-wide.
05:44It also shoots in 4K60 with an 8 megapixel selfie that shoots in 1080p30.
05:50Still photography is still absolutely amazing on this phone.
05:54Like I said, it's still comparable to the latest flagships.
05:57Great color, great detail.
06:00The ultra-wide, very consistent with the main lens.
06:02Video is okay, it's not that great on this phone, but pictures, even low light shots
06:08still look really good on this phone.
06:10So like I said, this is extremely impressive for anyone who wants the best camera.
06:16Battery life is also pretty solid on here as well too.
06:18It's a 4,410 milliamp hour battery, 18 watt charging.
06:23Really no issues you can get through the day with this phone, no problem.
06:26Alright so next on the list is the Nothing Phone 2A.
06:29This is a pretty interesting phone here.
06:31It's got the glyph lights on the back, it's got three of them, and you can use it for
06:35notifications and you can kind of address it to other stuff about the phone as well
06:41too.
06:42But yeah, I thought it was pretty interesting.
06:44I thought it was a little bit gimmicky at first, but once you use it, it's kind of cool.
06:50It really depends on you as a person, but it's pretty much a plastic phone for the most
06:55part.
06:56It's IP54 splash water and dust resistant as well too.
07:00But I really like the design on here.
07:02I think it really stands out, like I said, with the lights.
07:05I think it does look pretty cool.
07:06You got a 6.7 inch AMOLED display.
07:09It's 120 hertz HDR10+, 1300 nits peak brightness.
07:13It's 1080p 394 for the PPI.
07:16Nothing bad to say about the display for this mid-range phone.
07:20It's around like 400 bucks, so this is I think the most expensive one on the list so far.
07:25And it's got the Android 14 and Nothing OS skin, so it basically has kind of like a,
07:30I would say a bit of a heavier skin with very cool widgets and stuff like that.
07:34So it's kind of a cool skin.
07:36And then you also do have the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro chip on here.
07:41And the chipset is fine for the most part.
07:44I didn't really run into any performance problems, any overheating problems.
07:49Was able to play PUBG just fine.
07:51It was able to play Call of Duty fine.
07:53So I didn't really have any issues with the chipset.
07:55Again, it's not going to be like crazy powerful, but it got the job done.
07:59It's 128 gigs of internal storage and 8 gigs of RAM.
08:03The overall speakers were decent, nothing too crazy.
08:06And then you also do have on this phone a fingerprint scanner.
08:10And that is an optical one and that works fine as well too.
08:13The image quality on here is pretty decent.
08:16Again, it's a 50 megapixel standard.
08:18It's got a 50 megapixel ultrawide as well.
08:21It only shoots in 4K 30 and a 32 megapixel selfie.
08:25That shoots in 1080 60.
08:27The image quality I thought was pretty good, but I would say I will put this actually last
08:33for image quality on the list compared to the rest of these phones.
08:38It's good, but I would definitely pick up like another phone if you're extremely focused
08:42on photos here.
08:44Battery life was very good on this phone as well too, 5,000 milliamps and 45 watt.
08:49Charging easily got through the day, no problem.
08:51The Poco X6 Pro is an extremely slept on phone here in the USA.
08:57I really like this phone.
08:59So it's got a plastic back and it's got kind of like that soft texture to it as well too.
09:05It's IP54 dust and splash resistant as well.
09:08And overall I really like the design.
09:09I think it looks great.
09:11And then you also do have an AMOLED display at 6.7 inches.
09:15And then you also have 120 hertz HDR 10 plus.
09:18And then it's a 1800 nits peak brightness.
09:20So it does really good in direct sunlight.
09:23And then it is also a little bit above 1080p.
09:25It's a 1220 by 2712 resolution and it's 446 for the PPI.
09:31So very nice high resolution, very sharp display.
09:34It's also got an Android 14 with the Hyper OS.
09:38It's got the Dimensity 8300 Ultra chipset.
09:41This chipset is a B so it does an excellent job at PUBG.
09:45You can play at really high settings on here, no problem.
09:48It's got 256 gigs of internal storage and 8 gigs of RAM.
09:52And I was really impressed with performance.
09:54So you can buy this phone, I think this price has dropped
09:57to like 300 on eBay.
09:59So that's where I would get it.
10:00And yeah, it's really, really good guys.
10:02If you're gaming on a budget, I would definitely,
10:06this would be actually be my first choice on the list.
10:08And then you also do have on here,
10:10dual speakers as well too, which sound pretty good.
10:13No issues with that.
10:14What's really slept on with these Poco phones
10:16is that you do have an infrared port.
10:18I use Poco phones every day to control the TVs
10:22and stuff around the house.
10:24And I absolutely love it.
10:25It's the only brand that's really doing it now.
10:27And then you also do have the fingerprint scanner
10:30under the display, it's an optical one.
10:31Absolutely love that.
10:33The pictures are pretty good on here.
10:34It's a 64 megapixel standard,
10:36eight megapixel ultra wide, two megapixel macro.
10:39It shoots in 4K 30 with a 16 megapixel selfie
10:42that shoots in 1080 60.
10:44Overall image quality is pretty good on the Poco
10:48for the most part, like I said, not super impressive
10:50as far as the video goes,
10:52but for still photography,
10:54I think this takes a pretty decent photo.
10:56So I was not mad at the photos at all on here.
11:00You also have a 5,000 milliamp hour battery.
11:02And then this phone also gets another plus
11:04because it has a 67 watt charging on here.
11:07So I can go from zero to 145 minutes
11:10and it's just really impressive.
11:12I really do like them putting the charger in the box.
11:15And then also it's just really good fast charging as well.
11:19So absolutely love this phone.
11:21Now last is Samsung Galaxy A54.
11:24I think this is definitely a much better phone.
11:26Samsung didn't bring the A55 to the USA this year,
11:31but you got the A54 and it is super cheap on Amazon.
11:34You can find these for like 200 bucks to, yeah.
11:38I wouldn't pay more than 200 bucks
11:39to get this light used refurbished.
11:41And yeah, so this is an awesome phone
11:43to consider for this price point.
11:45It's got the plastic frame,
11:46it's IP67 dust and water resistant,
11:48which I actually really love.
11:50So you can actually get this wet
11:51and it won't break immediately.
11:53It's got the Super AMOLED display.
11:55It's HDR10+, 1000 nits peak brightness, 6.4 inch display.
11:59It is 1080p 403 for the PPI.
12:02I have no issues with the panel on here.
12:04It's a nice, very vibrant display on here.
12:07So again, no real issues on this one.
12:10And then of course you got the Android 14
12:12with One UI software.
12:13So if you're a Samsung fan,
12:15you can take advantage of the software.
12:18Now this has the Xenos 1380 chipset on here,
12:21which for this price point is perfectly fine.
12:24I don't have an issue with this at all.
12:26You can do gaming on here just fine.
12:28You're just not gonna be going crazy.
12:30If you wanna really, like I said,
12:32do a lot of gaming on a mid range phone,
12:34try to go for something like the Poco X6 Pro
12:37or even I think the G-Stylus
12:38does a little bit better as well too.
12:41But you also do get micro SD card support
12:43on this one as well too.
12:44And I think the base is 128 gigs and six gigs of RAM.
12:48I think that was my base storage.
12:50And then you do have pretty good speakers
12:52on here as well too.
12:53And then the fingerprint scanner works perfectly fine.
12:56No issues with that one.
12:57And I think the pictures are actually really good
13:00on the A54.
13:01It's a 50 megapixel standard, 12 megapixel ultra wide,
13:04five megapixel macro and it shoots in 4K 30,
13:0832 megapixel selfie shoots in 4K 30 as well too.
13:11I would actually put this second
13:13for the best pictures on the list here for sure.
13:16I really do like the image processing that this phone does.
13:20But besides that, really good battery life,
13:235,000 milliamp hour battery, 25 watt charging,
13:25no issues there.
13:26This is an extremely solid phone for 200 bucks.
13:29Also, I was getting a lot of complaints
13:30about the OnePlus 12R not being a mid range price point.
13:35But guys, if you go on OnePlus website and it's 499,
13:39if you trade in any device,
13:41it'll drop to 399.
13:44So it's more in that mid range price point.
13:46Also, if you wanna spend around like 400 bucks,
13:50another phone that I really like is the Pixel 8a.
13:53It's 400 bucks as well too, extremely good phone
13:55if you want a mid range Pixel
13:57and you wanna spend that type of money.
13:59But yeah, so thanks for watching this
14:01and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
