00:00What's up guys, today we're going to be talking about some awesome older flagships that you can get for around the $400 price point
00:05where you don't have to break the bank for the holidays.
00:09So let's go ahead and get started.
00:10Alright, the first device I'm going to talk about is the Pixel 7 Pro.
00:13This phone got a pretty nice price drop, so earlier in the year it was around like $500, $600,
00:18but now it's come down to this $400 price point and I think it's a really solid option
00:23considering that it's not really that old of a flagship.
00:26So this phone has an aluminum frame, it's got a glass back, it's IP68 dust and water resistant,
00:31and it's got the classic, you know, pixel design on here.
00:34And then we also have a 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED display.
00:38It's 120Hz with HDR10+, at 1500 nits max brightness, and it's pretty good.
00:44It does a fairly good job outdoors.
00:46And then it has a full 1440p resolution with 512 for the PPI.
00:51Overall, a fantastic flagship display.
00:54Very nice colors and, like I said, very high-res display here.
00:58This phone, it is going to be running Android 14,
01:01and the good thing about Pixel devices is that you're first to try the major OS updates.
01:06So when Android 15 comes out, you'll be one of the first to get the betas.
01:09And then it's running the Google Tensor G2 processor,
01:12which is a pretty good chip for the most part, I think, for the average person.
01:16I had really no issues with performance.
01:18Playing PUBG and just bouncing in and out of applications, multitasking,
01:22the phone is buttery smooth, so I had no issues with performance on here.
01:26And I actually think Pixel are some of the smoothest devices when it comes to animations
01:30and just the overall feel.
01:32So this phone does have 128GB of internal storage and 8GB of RAM on the base model.
01:37The stereo speakers on here are pretty good.
01:39They have a good amount of bass, fairly loud.
01:41You also do have the under-the-display fingerprint sensor on here as well, too.
01:45And then this phone also has fantastic cameras, guys.
01:49So I think some of the best cameras actually on this list.
01:52So if you're really into taking photos, this is going to give you some of the best deals.
01:57It's got a 50-megapixel standard, a 48-megapixel telephoto with 5x optical,
02:02and then a 12-megapixel ultrawide.
02:04It also shoots in 4K60, and then you have a 10.8-megapixel ultrawide selfie cam
02:09that also shoots in 4K60.
02:11The shots are absolutely fantastic on here.
02:14Like I said, it pretty much takes identical photos to the Pixel 8 Pro for the most part.
02:19So you're getting a fantastic top-tier camera for, you know, just $400,
02:24which I think is a really good deal.
02:26Video is actually pretty solid on here.
02:28I actually film all of my shorts with my Pixel as well, if you guys didn't know.
02:32But yeah, so I'm actually a huge fan of the Pixel cameras.
02:35Great skin tones, good dynamic range, just awesome image processing in general.
02:40This phone does have a somewhat decent battery life.
02:43It's a 5,000 mAh battery, 23-watt wired charging,
02:46which I think honestly is a little bit slow for a flagship.
02:4923-watt wireless charging, and you also have the reverse wireless charging.
02:53Battery life is just pretty standard on the Pixel 7 Pro.
02:56You can easily get around six hours of screen on time,
02:59but it's a fantastic device at this price, guys.
03:02All right, next is the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
03:05And this one is kind of a bizarre one
03:07This phone has actually gone up a little bit in price.
03:10So last year it was kind of floating around $350,
03:12but now it's kind of $400 and above now,
03:15which I thought was pretty interesting because you don't see Android phones
03:18kind of like stay this steady, you know, year after year.
03:22But this one has actually went up a little bit
03:24because I remember it was like around $350, $360,
03:27but now you have to pay like $400 to get this now.
03:31But it's still a fantastic phone,
03:34and the main reason is because it simply just has SD card support
03:38and it's still getting security patches, so it's just in high demand.
03:42You know, I even underestimated how much people really want SD card support,
03:46but this phone is still an awesome phone.
03:49It's stainless steel frame, it's IP68 dust and water resistant,
03:52and it has the built-in S Pen, of course, and it has that super boxy design.
03:57And a lot of people have said they actually the design has grown on them a lot,
04:01but I think the design, I've always kind of liked it.
04:04It just depends on, I think, which color you get it in.
04:07The display on here is also kind of unique for a Samsung flagship
04:11because it's very big at 6.9 inches.
04:14I think the Galaxy S23 Ultra is 6.8, so this is a pretty big phone.
04:18It's a dynamic AMOLED display.
04:20It's 120 Hz HDR10+, and it's a 1440p display, 469, 496 for the PPI.
04:28The thing about the display is that it can only be used at 120 Hz at 1080p,
04:33but besides that, you know, it's a curved panel, and it looks fantastic still in 2023.
04:38Absolutely a beast when it comes to, you know, performance,
04:42and it actually does pretty decent outdoors as well, too, in direct sunlight.
04:46This phone got its last major OS update with Android 13, One UI 5.1,
04:51and it's also running the Snapdragon 865 chip,
04:54and like I said, microSD card support, 128 gigs of internal storage,
04:58and 12 gigs of RAM on the base.
05:00And yeah, gaming performance is actually still excellent on this phone.
05:04I play PUBG, Call of Duty Mobile, Fortnite.
05:07I did a whole gaming test with this phone.
05:09It still plays really well.
05:11It's able to play PUBG at 90 frames still.
05:13There's nothing that the phone can't actually play in the Play Store,
05:16so it's just an overall fantastic phone when it comes to performance.
05:19It's still very fast still.
05:22Now, this phone also has pretty good speakers, pretty good amount of bass,
05:25pretty full sound, fingerprint scanner, of course, face unlock, all that good stuff.
05:29The cameras on here are also still pretty good.
05:32It's a 108-megapixel standard.
05:34It's got a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto with 5x optical.
05:37It goes all the way up to 50x hybrid zoom,
05:40and then you have a 12-megapixel ultrawide with 8K24 video,
05:44and then a 10-megapixel selfie with 4K60.
05:47It still takes pretty good shots.
05:49I don't have an issue with it.
05:51I think outdoors it still takes really good shots, great dynamic range, great color.
05:55My only issue with this camera is the selfie cam.
05:57I think it's starting to show its age a little bit.
06:00It just sort of does not handle darkened skin tones as well as I would like it to.
06:05You have to do some post-editing to get your skin tone actually right.
06:08But besides that, it still takes fantastic pictures for the most part.
06:13This phone also has somewhat okay battery life.
06:16It's a 4,500-mAh battery.
06:18It's not anything too special.
06:2025-watt wired charging, and again, it's kind of slow.
06:2315-watt wireless and reverse wireless charging.
06:26So battery life, I typically can almost squeeze about 6 hours of screen on time out of this
06:31depending on what you're doing.
06:32So battery life is just okay.
06:34It's been okay.
06:35It was never super, super good when the phone first came out.
06:38But yeah, so the Note20 Ultra is a fantastic phone.
06:41All right, so one of the next phones is the S21 Ultra,
06:44and it's the same price as the Note20 Ultra.
06:47So you guys can see kind of how outrageous the price is on the Note20 Ultra.
06:51The newer phone is about the same.
06:53And actually, the S21 Ultra you can find a little bit cheaper.
06:56It's actually a little bit under $400, not by much, but it is still technically cheaper,
07:01which I thought was hilarious.
07:03But the S21 Ultra, like I said, if I did not have a phone and I wanted an old flagship,
07:08I would get this phone 100%.
07:10So this phone has the aluminum frame.
07:12It's got IP68 dust and water resistant.
07:14A lot of people forget this phone actually has S-Pen support.
07:17So if you get an S-Pen or the S-Pen case, it will work with this phone.
07:21And yeah, it's just an awesome design.
07:24It's way easier to hold than something like the Note as well too for anyone with smaller hands.
07:29And yeah, so the display on here, it's a dynamic AMOLED display.
07:33It's 120 Hz HDR10+, 1500 nits peak brightness at 6.8 inches.
07:38It's 1440p 515 for the PPI.
07:42Overall, just a beautiful display on here.
07:44Like I said, you can take advantage of the 120 Hz at the full resolution.
07:49And it's, like I said, way easier to hold.
07:51It's just a really comfortable phone even though it's a big phone.
07:54Also, this phone just got the Android 14 update.
07:56I just did a video on it when you watch 6.
07:59And guys, it will get the Android 15 update as well too.
08:02And then it will get security patches after that.
08:04So you can keep this phone for a long time.
08:06And you do have the Snapdragon AAA processor on here.
08:10And this phone has been really good performance-wise.
08:12This phone, like I said, gets a little bit warmer than I would like to when you're gaming for a long period of time.
08:18I've never had it crash on me.
08:19But just for general stuff, performance-wise, it's a pretty fast phone.
08:24And it gets the job done.
08:26No issues at all with performance.
08:28It's got 128 gigs of internal storage and 12 gigs of RAM on the base.
08:32And the speakers on here sound fantastic.
08:34Really good speakers.
08:36Ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, face unlock, all that good stuff.
08:39The cameras are actually really good.
08:41And I would say if you're looking for an older, you know, Samsung Galaxy phone, it does take better photos than the Note20 Ultra.
08:47In my opinion, it's got a 108-megapixel standard, a 10-megapixel periscope telephoto.
08:52And especially when it comes to, like, zoom shots.
08:54This phone does a much better job at zoom shots.
08:56It's got a 10x optical zoom than a 10-megapixel telephoto.
09:003x optical than a 12-megapixel ultrawide.
09:03It has the 100x hybrid zoom on here.
09:06And then you also have the 8K 24 video with a 40-megapixel selfie that shoots in 4K60.
09:12Like I said, this phone takes really good pictures.
09:15And like I said, fantastic zoom shots on this phone as well, too.
09:19You would be shocked at the kind of photos you can get at 10x, 20x, even 30x.
09:24It's still going to give you some really nice, crispy shots.
09:27This phone has pretty good battery life.
09:29You know, pretty decent, nothing special.
09:315,000 mAh battery, 25-watt wire charging, and wireless and reverse wireless charging as well, too.
09:38So you can get around 6 hours of screen-on time pretty easy.
09:41But this is a fantastic device.
09:43Highly recommend it.
09:44All right, so if you are more into iPhones and you have a budget of $400, I would get the iPhone 13.
09:50I know the iPhone 12 is a little bit tempting, but the iPhone 13 would be better for just keeping it over a longer period of time.
09:58So I would go on eBay to get this because the prices are a little bit higher on Amazon.
10:03So you can find these on eBay for like $425 right now.
10:07And it's a fantastic phone.
10:09Like I said, you got the aluminum frame on here.
10:11You got IP68 dust and water resistant.
10:13It's got a fairly modern design as well, too, especially from the back.
10:17Looks like, you know, any other iPhone.
10:19Basically looks like the iPhone 15.
10:21You also have the Retin-X XDR OLED display on here.
10:24It's HDR10.
10:25It has 1200 nits peak brightness at 6.1 inches.
10:29So it's kind of a one-hand phone.
10:32It's got 1170 by 2532, 460 for the PPI.
10:36Overall, a very nice display.
10:38Very sharp.
10:39No issues at all with the display on here.
10:42This phone is running iOS 17.
10:44It will get updates for, you know, years to come.
10:47And then you also have 128 gigs of internal storage and 4 gigs of RAM.
10:52The Apple A15 chip is absolutely a beast on this phone.
10:55It is still blazing, blazing, blazing fast.
10:58You really can't tell a difference between a 13 and a 15 in my opinion.
11:02It's just really, really fast when it comes to performance, gaming, all that stuff.
11:06You really won't have to worry about anything like that when it comes to performance.
11:10The speakers are fantastic on here.
11:12Plenty of bass.
11:13Very loud speakers on here.
11:15Face ID.
11:16And the cameras on here I think still look really good.
11:19Honestly, with Apple, the way they upgrade their cameras, they do such small upgrades.
11:24I can't really tell a difference between a 13 and a 14, even compared to the 15.
11:29It's got a 12-megapixel standard and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide.
11:33It has 4K 60 video and then a 12-megapixel selfie that shoots in 4K 60 as well.
11:38Like I said, it takes just as good photos as the iPhone 14 and honestly a 15 in my opinion,
11:44especially when you're outdoors.
11:46You can barely tell the difference.
11:48So yeah, I wouldn't worry about anything with the cameras.
11:50They still are excellent if you're going to be doing social media, taking videos or whatever.
11:55Dynamic range, color, even indoor shots are still pretty decent on here.
12:00Yeah, so no issues at all with the 13's camera.
12:03Battery life is actually somewhat decent.
12:05It's a 3,200 or 3,240 milliamp hour battery.
12:09It has 15-watt wireless charging.
12:11You do have MagSafe on here so you can take advantage of the accessories.
12:15You have wireless charging as well too.
12:17Overall, it's a fairly good device to buy, guys, if you're looking for an iPhone.
12:21I would actually spend that extra money because you're going to get longer iOS updates.
12:25Lastly is the S22+.
12:27This is a fantastic phone for $400 because if you're planning on keeping your phone for a long time,
12:33like I said, this is last year's flagship and it's going to get longer updates as well too.
12:39Overall, I just really like this phone for the price, aluminum frame.
12:42It's got IP68 dust and water resistant.
12:45I think design-wise, it still has that really nice modern look to it as well too.
12:50It's got the dynamic AMOLED display.
12:52It's 1,750 nits peak brightness, so very bright display outdoors at 6.6 inches.
12:581080p, 393 for the PPI.
13:00This one is a completely flat display unlike the S21 and the Note20 Ultra.
13:07Keep that in mind if you're a fan of that.
13:10Also, this phone is upgradeable to Android 14 when you watch 6.
13:14It's running the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, which is a fantastic chip, very fast phone, very efficient.
13:21I had a breeze just playing games and stuff like that.
13:24Performance-wise, super, super snappy phone.
13:27It's also 128 gigs of internal storage and 8 gigs of RAM on board.
13:31It has stereo speakers as well too.
13:34It has the under-the-display fingerprint sensor as well.
13:38I think the cameras on here are pretty much the best you're going to get as far as stills when it comes to photography.
13:45I think it's going to be a little bit better than the S21 Ultra and the Note20 Ultra.
13:49If you're looking for the best photo taker for a Samsung device at this price point,
13:54I think the S21, S22 Plus would be a really good option.
13:58It's 50 megapixels, 10 megapixel telephoto, three times optical with a 12 megapixel ultra-wide.
14:04It shoots in 8K 24 with a 10 megapixel selfie cam as well too.
14:08It just does a fantastic job, whether it's standard photos, ultra-wide.
14:13Now, it does lack the zooming capabilities that the ultra phones have,
14:17but if you don't zoom a lot, it'll just be fine for just taking still photos, really good low-light shots as well too, excellent video.
14:26It does a fantastic job with the cameras.
14:29You also have really good battery life on here, believe it or not.
14:32It's got a 4,500 mAh battery, 45-watt wired charging, so it charges decently fast.
14:38Then you have wireless and reverse wireless charging as well too.
14:41That's probably one of my favorite things about this phone.
14:44Battery life and standby time is pretty good on here, and the cameras, I think, are top-notch.
14:49That's my list, guys. Be sure to let me know what you guys think, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
