00:00:00 All right, everyone, welcome back into another live edition of the Patriots beat podcast
00:00:08 here on the CNS Media Network presented by our wonderful friends over at prize picks.
00:00:13 We are back.
00:00:14 It is Brian Hines joined as always by Alex Barth from 95 the sports hub and it is Thursday.
00:00:19 So that means it is mock draft time 3.0 as we are officially under one month until the
00:00:26 NFL draft.
00:00:27 So we're we're getting there but it's going to be a grind of a last month here during
00:00:32 you know, smoke screen season and all this but we are going to you know, do our usual
00:00:38 Thursday mock draft here.
00:00:39 It's been a busy couple days in the pro day circuit.
00:00:42 The Patriots were well represented in Baton Rouge yesterday to watch Jaden Daniels most
00:00:47 of that regime and that brass went up to Chapel Hill today to watch Drake May some of them
00:00:52 actually diverted to Washington to watch Michael Pennock.
00:00:56 So they've got a good look at some of the top quarterbacks in this class.
00:01:00 So we'll talk about those per days a little bit probably with our first round pick that
00:01:04 will get into very shortly here, but I don't know Barth just lead into this any like big
00:01:10 picture besides the quarterbacks that that you're kind of looking for or draft storylines
00:01:15 that have popped up since the last time we did this.
00:01:19 I don't think so.
00:01:20 I mean pretty much just a pro day stuff that's kind of dominated.
00:01:22 So that's where I've my attention has been.
00:01:25 So we can get right into it then and we can pull up our simulator.
00:01:30 If you have it up, do you have it ready?
00:01:33 Yeah.
00:01:34 All right.
00:01:35 Okay, so and what we're going to do here, this one's going to be a little different.
00:01:43 Every time we do this, Drake May or Jaden Daniels go second and I basically say it's
00:01:47 a bummer.
00:01:48 We don't get to have this conversation.
00:01:49 Drake, May or Jaden Daniels.
00:01:50 So we're going to control the commanders for this one as well.
00:01:53 We're just going to put a rule that we're just going to take the best player on the
00:01:56 board whenever the commanders are up.
00:01:58 That's just what we're going to do because I wanted to be able to take JJ McCarthy second
00:02:02 for the commanders because that is something that's happened.
00:02:05 That's been talked about recently that the commanders may really like JJ McCarthy.
00:02:10 It makes sense.
00:02:11 He's kind of that Brock Purdy, Zach Wilson, kind of quarterback and Adam Peters coming
00:02:15 from San Francisco with Wilson.
00:02:18 It's Robert Sala who came from San Francisco as the coach there when they took him.
00:02:21 So I wanted to set this up and I think this is a great place to begin with the pro days,
00:02:26 the last couple of days and all of that because this isn't, I don't know that this is the
00:02:30 most likely outcome.
00:02:32 I still think Washington is going to take Jane Daniels, but we've done enough of these
00:02:35 drafts where we've taken especially not right.
00:02:37 Especially if you ask Brian Kelly, it's correct.
00:02:40 It's Washington taking Jaden Daniels.
00:02:42 Brian, Brian Kelly is an honest man who we can all believe, but yeah, um, I wanted to
00:02:47 set it up that we get to have this conversation because I don't think it's a non zero chance.
00:02:51 I don't think it's most likely.
00:02:53 I still think Jane Daniels is going second, but I also think that this is a possibility
00:02:58 and we do so many of these mock drafts.
00:03:00 Like we might as well eventually have the conversation.
00:03:02 So we've done, this is what our fourth, third, third.
00:03:06 Okay, wait, no, it's gotta be our fourth.
00:03:08 What about the one we did after the super bowl?
00:03:11 Did we count that or is that like a, yeah, that was one.
00:03:13 Oh, cause we didn't do one free agency week, right?
00:03:17 This is the second week.
00:03:18 Okay.
00:03:19 Yeah.
00:03:20 So, um, we take a Drake may first both times.
00:03:22 Now we took a, we took Daniel's one.
00:03:24 Oh, did we take Daniel's one?
00:03:26 Okay.
00:03:27 May the second one.
00:03:28 So I have no clue what's going on, but they're both on the board.
00:03:30 I'm set up for both on the board.
00:03:32 JJ McCarthy is off.
00:03:34 Um, people ask me, I think Jane Daniels goes second cause he's a much better fit for what
00:03:39 Washington wants to do.
00:03:40 I also think he's a better quarterback.
00:03:41 So just to keep it simple and quick.
00:03:46 How do you feel, Brian?
00:03:48 How do you feel about this one?
00:03:51 I mean, I'm still running up Drake may I, I like Drake may more than Jaden Daniels.
00:03:57 I have him in the same tier as Caleb Williams.
00:04:02 And then, you know, Daniels, I would have in his kind of own tier as QB three.
00:04:06 So I think there's less question marks, uh, with maze game.
00:04:11 I think, you know, you look at Jaden Daniels.
00:04:14 He did weigh in at two 10, if we want to talk about the pro day a little bit.
00:04:17 So that was kind of a good checkpoint, but still kind of on the lighter side.
00:04:22 It's got some questions.
00:04:24 There's some questions about him throwing over the middle of the field.
00:04:26 It wasn't something he was asked to do a lot at LSU cause he had Brian Thomas and Malik
00:04:30 neighbors running down the field.
00:04:32 So, uh, I mean, he does have a very pretty deep ball, but is he going to be able to throw
00:04:36 over the middle of the field at the next level?
00:04:39 I think Drake may just has a better arm.
00:04:42 He's, you know, fits the size six, four, two 27.
00:04:45 I think he measured in today.
00:04:46 So he's my top quarterback for the Patriots here.
00:04:50 And I like him a more than Jaden Daniels, even though Jaden Daniels, like there's still
00:04:54 a lot of electric talent there, obviously with his running ability is deep ball.
00:04:57 But I have personally, I have Drake may a peg above him.
00:05:02 I'm still where I've been that if we're rating them out of a hundred, right.
00:05:08 We're in, in call it 90 and above as an elite prospect.
00:05:12 So I I'll say Marvin Harrison, cause I've said, I don't believe there's a perfect prospect,
00:05:16 but Harrison's as close as you're going to get Marvin Harrison's like a 99 for me, right?
00:05:21 Marvin Harrison's that we use batteries.
00:05:22 Marvin Harrison's at 99.
00:05:24 Joe Alts probably like I'll be good for the brand 98.5, right?
00:05:29 A shout out the sports hub 99.
00:05:32 He's in that range.
00:05:33 I think Caleb Williams is probably 91, 92, somewhere in there as just a prospect outright,
00:05:40 not factoring in system, which is a huge part of it to me.
00:05:45 Jane Daniels is like an 85.
00:05:48 Drake may is like an 84.
00:05:50 Like they're that close.
00:05:52 But when you factor in what they're going to be asked to do, Drake may makes more sense
00:05:57 for what if, if Alex van Pelt's going to run the same offense, he ran in Cleveland, which
00:06:01 we think it's not the same, but we think it's going to be very similar.
00:06:04 We think there's going to be a lot of overlap.
00:06:06 I think it's, it, that closes the gap.
00:06:09 That becomes a tie breaker with it being so close.
00:06:12 So if you ask me who's been in, I mean, Felger got pissed at me for this thing and I don't
00:06:16 blame him because it's a weird take and it sounds like a cop out take.
00:06:19 I actually think I'm digging myself a deeper hole, not copping out, but Jane Daniels, better
00:06:25 raw prospect.
00:06:27 Drake may is better for the guy.
00:06:28 Drake may is a better answer to what the Patriots need right now because it's that close between
00:06:35 the two of them.
00:06:36 Yeah.
00:06:37 And the offense is a big, big part, but do you think you have Daniels as a better prospect,
00:06:42 even though like two years older, fifth year player where mays only had, you know, he redshirted
00:06:47 one year.
00:06:48 So he's technically like a junior, but he's 21, like he's younger.
00:06:53 He's got more room to grow.
00:06:54 So you still, you still would have Daniels as a higher prospect.
00:06:57 Yes, because in, in everything you just said reflects on ceiling.
00:07:00 And I, I'm not, I don't necessarily disagree with anything that you just said, but I, I
00:07:06 look at the floor too.
00:07:07 I consider the floor in this.
00:07:08 And I think Jane Daniels natural athleticism, which Gerard Mayo noted in his press conference
00:07:13 the other day, you have to look at the floor.
00:07:15 Like you, you look at what happened with Justin Fields where he maybe wasn't ready to be an
00:07:19 NFL passer and he still went out and won seven games because he's able to run around and
00:07:25 worst case scenario to me, assuming you say worst case scenario, he gets hurt.
00:07:29 He's RG three, but like assuming he's healthy, worst case scenario, Jane Daniels is always
00:07:33 going to be a factor with his legs.
00:07:35 Like that's always going to be a fallback.
00:07:37 The thing that scares me about Drake may, and to me is a very unique prospect in this
00:07:41 regard is we talk about, you know, top of the draft, first round, especially quarterbacks.
00:07:49 What is a player's carrying trait?
00:07:52 What is the one trait that you look at and you say, this is going to translate to the
00:07:56 NFL, no matter what's going on around him, he can fall back into this on this and he'll
00:08:01 be okay.
00:08:02 Right.
00:08:03 For Caleb Williams, it's his ability to create from nothing.
00:08:07 For Trevor Lawrence, it was his arm talent for, you know, to go back a couple of years.
00:08:12 We thought for Mack Jones, it was his process and we were wrong.
00:08:15 And it's really rare to whiff on a, on a carrying trait like that.
00:08:20 Everybody did usually when prospects don't work out, it's because the other traits don't
00:08:23 don't work.
00:08:24 So for Jane did like for Jane Daniels is carrying traits, his athleticism.
00:08:28 And I think no matter what, that's going to translate to the NFL, to what extent that
00:08:33 makes him a, you know, a good or a great quarterback is to be determined by everything else.
00:08:37 Drake may.
00:08:38 So I, I'm of the belief or I've been of the belief that it, your carrying trait has to
00:08:45 be something tangible, right?
00:08:48 Drake Mays carrying trade is his potential, which is super weird.
00:08:53 And like, it's kind of his arm talent too.
00:08:56 But if we're just drafting a guy because he has great arm talent, we're not sure about
00:09:00 the rest of it.
00:09:01 Like Joe Milton, but Joe Milton's 25 years old and that's why he's going to be a fifth
00:09:04 round should be a fifth round pick at best because he has no potential.
00:09:08 So, but, but you can't guarantee that potential will carry will translate because then it
00:09:15 wouldn't be potential.
00:09:16 That's all point of potential.
00:09:17 It's unknown.
00:09:19 So that's why I put Jane Daniels over Drake may, because I think they both have a lot
00:09:23 of really the, the overall makeup for both I think is great.
00:09:30 But what is, what is Drake may going to fall back on when all else fails?
00:09:34 What's the one thing he can fall back on to still be competitive.
00:09:37 And I like throwing the ball far.
00:09:40 Is it necessarily the answer to that question?
00:09:42 Cause again, Joe Milton, Jamarcus Russell, like that kind of guy will love us a little
00:09:46 bit.
00:09:47 That's that to me is the big differentiator, but I think in the Patriot system, they're
00:09:52 going to play with strengths well enough that they can minimize that.
00:09:55 Yeah.
00:09:56 I mean, he might not have like Daniels is obviously the athleticism.
00:10:00 You look at Caleb Williams, like his one trait might be the creativeness, right?
00:10:04 The out of structure may, might not have like the one big thing.
00:10:08 Although I think, I don't know if it's really a carry and trade.
00:10:10 Like, I think he's the best middle of the field thrower in this draft.
00:10:13 I don't know if that's like, but that's so is it, but is it like, what is that?
00:10:16 Is that accuracy?
00:10:17 Is that not, that's not a caring trait to me.
00:10:19 Cause you can take that away.
00:10:21 You can just, you know, I think when you look at him as a whole, like he's.
00:10:26 Number two, almost in every single, like he's got an awesome arm.
00:10:31 He can create out, like, he's a very good athlete still.
00:10:34 He can, he can run, he can scramble.
00:10:36 He can create out of structure.
00:10:37 Like that's another big thing.
00:10:38 I think with Daniels and may, why I lean may is may we'll get out of the pocket and he'll
00:10:42 keep his eyes down field.
00:10:43 And he's still going to look to, you know, burn you through the air.
00:10:46 And then if all things fall apart, he's going to take off Daniels.
00:10:49 Like if he gets out of the pocket, he's just going to try to run like, and he might pass
00:10:52 up some opportunities.
00:10:53 So there might, he might not have that one trait, but I think everything about him, like
00:10:58 size arm ability, mobility is so high.
00:11:02 I think that's why, you know, I have him, I have him higher up, up, up than Jaden.
00:11:07 So I was going to say like, do you remember, I said that, I don't know if you were there
00:11:10 at good food store that day, but I said this to Evan.
00:11:12 I think a bunch of us were there that Drake may is not, I don't know that Drake may is
00:11:17 the best at any one thing of any of the quarterbacks in this draft.
00:11:20 If you were to list, you know, seven or eight tangible traits, would Drake may be number
00:11:26 one in on any of those lists?
00:11:29 Probably maybe saw, I might put his pocket management number one.
00:11:34 Okay.
00:11:35 So that's maybe, if you were going to list seven quarterback traits, I don't know why
00:11:40 I'm picking seven, but if you're going to list seven quarterback traits, cause I'm stuck
00:11:43 in mental seven rounds, would pocket management be one of the top seven things you look at
00:11:48 for a quarterback?
00:11:49 I think so at the NFL level.
00:11:51 So, but that's of what, so, all right.
00:11:53 So maybe he's at the top of one list.
00:11:54 I think Penix's pocket management is great.
00:11:57 He doesn't run around, but he can move around in the pocket, but he also might be number
00:12:01 two on every list.
00:12:04 Like he has the second best arm talent.
00:12:06 I honestly size second best besides Joe Milton.
00:12:10 He might, you know, mechanics is the only one that he'd kind of be down there.
00:12:14 So you're like further down the list.
00:12:17 So that's the weird thing about Drake May.
00:12:20 It's like you're drafting him on his potential, which we already know how scared people are
00:12:26 of taking a quarterback.
00:12:27 Now you're taking the scariest kind of quarterback, but the ceiling is tremendous and that's why.
00:12:33 Yeah.
00:12:34 That's why I like him.
00:12:35 I think if you combine everything, he's just the type of guy who can kind of go back to
00:12:40 the phrase we always say, like drive the bus, drive the bus of your, of your offense, where
00:12:45 I still have more questions about Jaden Daniels with that, that, with that in mind.
00:12:51 All right.
00:12:52 So let's, uh, uh, let's take, where am I?
00:12:58 That became a whole other show.
00:12:59 Let's take Drake May and move on.
00:13:00 Taking Drake May?
00:13:01 I'm good with it.
00:13:02 All right.
00:13:03 We'll take Drake May and move on.
00:13:04 All right.
00:13:05 Okay.
00:13:06 Uh, so here we are again at 30.
00:13:13 Oh, we did.
00:13:14 We want to trade down.
00:13:15 All right.
00:13:16 We're not, we're trade up.
00:13:17 We're not trading up.
00:13:18 You know, we've traded up once we've traded up once we've traded down once.
00:13:22 So let's pick a 34.
00:13:24 Okay.
00:13:25 So let's pull up the, uh, the two key positions.
00:13:29 So AD Mitchell made it to 34.
00:13:32 Interesting.
00:13:33 Actually, I would have had it Kingsley went, Jordan Morgan went all the time.
00:13:43 Tackles went really high.
00:13:45 So what do we want to do?
00:13:51 So who's left at tackle and some good receivers.
00:13:55 So a tackle, I think the top players, the, the Yale, who were still working on the name,
00:13:59 right?
00:14:00 A Medici, I think, which if there's going to be a run on tackles here, meet, we want
00:14:05 me that we might want to take them.
00:14:10 Take a Medici.
00:14:11 This is really high, but that's what the board's dictating.
00:14:15 I know.
00:14:16 Or do you take advantage of the tackle run, take a receiver, and then you can come back
00:14:22 for, or do we get 80 Mitch or do we take the tackle here and then trade up from 68?
00:14:30 That could also be a play.
00:14:33 I just get worried.
00:14:34 Like if you miss the boat here, right.
00:14:37 If we miss the boat here, we're in trouble.
00:14:41 So do we look at moving up?
00:14:44 I mean, the Packers have to, where are there two, it's like 41 and 58.
00:14:49 Do we try to move up to like 58?
00:14:52 We could try to do that for a receiver then.
00:14:55 Yeah.
00:14:56 I think that's, that's the play.
00:14:57 Cause again, there's just this unbelievable run at tackles that sometimes you have to
00:15:01 reach.
00:15:02 It's what the board dictates.
00:15:03 Yeah.
00:15:04 All right.
00:15:05 Yeah.
00:15:06 We can go, we can go tackle there.
00:15:08 I'll write that in.
00:15:09 The nice thing about also controlling the commanders is it'll pause it for us.
00:15:11 So we're going to trade up to 58.
00:15:13 We agree on that.
00:15:14 So we're the Packers here.
00:15:17 So that would be all right, hang on.
00:15:21 We got to make, all right.
00:15:22 Tyler Newman's top player on the board.
00:15:24 We're picking for Washington.
00:15:26 They get a safety and they get, all right, they're just drafting all defensive players,
00:15:30 I guess.
00:15:31 And they get Wilson.
00:15:33 Okay.
00:15:34 So we're going to trade up with the Packers.
00:15:37 This would be like 67 and be about this 67.
00:15:42 Nope.
00:15:43 Stop trading with the commanders 68.
00:15:47 And uh, we're going to mess this up at some point.
00:15:50 I absolutely 68 and one 37 I think would be the trade here.
00:15:55 Actually we can probably get like one of these back.
00:15:58 You good with this?
00:15:59 We're trading a, we're moving up 10 spots and it would be less than a hundred to move
00:16:04 back.
00:16:05 We're moving up 10 spots to move back 60.
00:16:07 Yeah, that's good.
00:16:09 Or we're moving back 60 spots to move up 10.
00:16:13 Yeah.
00:16:14 Seems about right.
00:16:15 Nope.
00:16:16 Guess not.
00:16:17 Nope.
00:16:18 All right.
00:16:19 Back 70.
00:16:20 Oh boy.
00:16:21 Come on.
00:16:22 Can Elliott Wolf work his connections here?
00:16:23 We can try one more time.
00:16:24 This one's already a mess.
00:16:25 That's the commander.
00:16:26 Yep.
00:16:37 Thank you.
00:16:38 68, one 84, 58 and two 19 or whatever.
00:16:45 I think we're trading one 37.
00:16:48 Yeah.
00:16:49 Wow.
00:16:50 They just don't want to deal, huh?
00:16:52 All right.
00:16:53 Is there another team in that range?
00:16:54 Yeah.
00:16:55 I think we're going to call Nick Casario.
00:16:57 Okay.
00:16:58 Jeez.
00:16:59 No one wants to trade.
00:17:02 All right, there we go.
00:17:05 What was it?
00:17:08 It was 59.
00:17:11 And traded one 37.
00:17:14 37 for 59.
00:17:16 59 and a.
00:17:19 Two 47.
00:17:22 Perfect.
00:17:24 All right.
00:17:25 So who do we?
00:17:26 All right.
00:17:27 So we, Oh, we, we do have some interesting options of wide receiver here though.
00:17:29 We can maybe salvage this.
00:17:30 Cause I, I don't like how this is started.
00:17:31 That run on tackles.
00:17:32 I wasn't.
00:17:33 So we can pair Drake May with Tez Walker, who I thought had a very good pro day today.
00:17:34 I don't think anybody's going to dispute that.
00:17:35 We can debate Drake May's pro day all we want.
00:17:36 I thought Tez Walker had a very good pro day.
00:17:37 He didn't, he didn't run again, right?
00:17:38 He stood on his four three six.
00:17:39 He didn't run again.
00:17:40 He stood on his four three six.
00:17:41 He didn't run again.
00:17:42 He stood on his four three six.
00:17:43 He didn't run again.
00:17:44 He stood on his four three six.
00:17:45 I believe he ran at the combine.
00:17:56 I think he ran again and ran a four three six.
00:17:58 I thought, Oh, okay.
00:17:59 Hang on.
00:18:00 Let me see.
00:18:01 I think one, one, one way he got off one way.
00:18:03 He got a four three six, which is, which is a very good time.
00:18:06 Well, look, here's the thing.
00:18:07 I, uh, I don't believe in pro day forties.
00:18:11 I just don't.
00:18:12 Cause they're being timed by the school.
00:18:13 It's in the school's bed.
00:18:14 Every, if you run a slower 40, Oh no, uh, Tez Walker didn't run again.
00:18:20 Sorry.
00:18:21 He stood on his four three six.
00:18:22 If you run a slower 40 at your pro day, then you did the combine.
00:18:24 Something's got horribly wrong.
00:18:25 Cause it's in the school's best interest for your 40 B as much as possible.
00:18:29 I couldn't care less about pro day forties.
00:18:31 Who had the field that was like angled downwards?
00:18:33 Is that like Ohio state or something?
00:18:35 Something like that.
00:18:36 Yeah.
00:18:37 It was like a downhill track.
00:18:38 Right.
00:18:39 Um, all right.
00:18:40 So receiver, I mean, I like the Washington guys.
00:18:48 I like, I think either if you take, uh, Jane Daniels or Drake may, you're going to want
00:18:54 a receiver who can, you know, get downfield to let them, uh, use that vertical passing
00:18:59 ability.
00:19:00 So like Jermaine Burton's a speedster.
00:19:01 We saw, you know, Tez Walker have that ability today.
00:19:04 So, uh, I like, you know, Tez is, I guess Tez is really the only true X out of the group,
00:19:13 but I like, I like both of the Washington guys.
00:19:15 I liked Jermaine Burton.
00:19:16 He's more of a, you know, like that burner to get you, get you downfield to get a vertical
00:19:20 element.
00:19:21 I liked Jermaine Burton, but if we put on our Patriots hats for a second, are they going
00:19:24 to draft them?
00:19:26 Because he had that incident with Tennessee.
00:19:28 Yeah.
00:19:29 And so for people who don't know, they lose it, they lose it.
00:19:33 Tennessee, Alabama does the fan storm, the field, and he may be, you know, different
00:19:40 people claim different things with the video, but it looks like he punches a female fan
00:19:43 in the face and she storms the field and he apologized and charges weren't filed or anything
00:19:47 like that.
00:19:48 But it's, I, I, he's getting asked about that.
00:19:51 And like, that's something teams are going to look at because the second they draft him,
00:19:55 every gotcha person on the internet is going to post that video and say, look who the Patriots
00:19:59 drafted.
00:20:00 Do they want to deal with that right now?
00:20:02 Because Jermaine Burton makes a ton of sense here.
00:20:04 But if we're doing the thing where we're trying to not just do what we would do, but try to
00:20:08 project what the Patriots would do.
00:20:12 I don't think they would draft Jermaine Burton, whether that's right or wrong.
00:20:15 You can yell at me and, you know, cancel culture, whatever.
00:20:18 I'm just here to tell you based on the trends, that's not the guy they generally draft.
00:20:23 Not saying that's right or wrong.
00:20:24 I'm just saying that's what it is.
00:20:26 That's how I don't know.
00:20:27 Maybe you feel differently, Brian, feel free to try to sway me, but I just don't think
00:20:31 he's the kind of guy that they would take.
00:20:33 Yeah.
00:20:34 Yeah.
00:20:35 There's been a lot of talk this offseason about like high character guys, right?
00:20:37 Getting the right guys back in the room.
00:20:39 So the one guy, like tons of talent again, but his, his question marks are kind of off
00:20:44 the field.
00:20:45 Obviously the incident there with the fans.
00:20:47 Well, let me be, let me be clear to question Mark outside of that, there's been no issues.
00:20:53 Yeah.
00:20:54 So I like just to put my personal two cents in, I should he have done it?
00:21:00 No, absolutely not.
00:21:01 And I believe he was suspended for a game and he should have been, it was a kid making
00:21:07 a dumb mistake.
00:21:08 I chalk it up to that.
00:21:12 But I understand why teams would be hesitant to draft them.
00:21:14 And you've got to kind of hope that it's a kid making a dumb mistake and not something
00:21:18 more than that.
00:21:19 And I'm not in the room with him.
00:21:20 I would ask him the question, but I'm not in the room with him.
00:21:21 So I don't know.
00:21:23 Yep.
00:21:24 So, or thoughts on the Washington guys.
00:21:29 Again, neither one is that true X we're really looking for.
00:21:35 So that's a tough one for me because I like both players, but I don't necessarily think
00:21:40 they're a fit.
00:21:41 Yeah.
00:21:42 And then Ted's Walker, I think Javon Baker too, was down there.
00:21:47 So it was Johnny Wilson.
00:21:48 I feel like it's early for those guys.
00:21:50 Yeah.
00:21:51 Baker is coming in for a 30 visit.
00:21:53 We could just add that.
00:21:55 But um, I think Ted's an option.
00:21:59 Yeah.
00:22:00 Just cause we took, especially cause we took May and there's that familiarity pair them
00:22:04 up.
00:22:05 Yeah.
00:22:06 All right.
00:22:07 We can do that.
00:22:08 All right.
00:22:09 Everybody was way too positive about our last mock draft and people already hate this.
00:22:12 So I think that's a good sign.
00:22:13 So we'll get, we'll get a nice since people hate this, let's, let's hear from our friends
00:22:18 real quick and then we'll re we'll reset the first three picks.
00:22:20 All right.
00:22:21 We'll hear from prospects.
00:22:22 Football season may be over, but the action on the floor is heating up.
00:22:26 Whether it's a tournament season or the fight for a playoff home court, there's no shortage
00:22:31 of high stakes basketball moments this time of year.

00:23:10 Use the code CLNS for the first deposit match up to a hundred dollars.
00:23:15 Pick more, pick less.
00:23:16 It's that easy.
00:23:17 All right, so quick reset of the board.
00:23:25 JJ McCarthy went number two, so we had our choice between Drake May and Jaden Daniels
00:23:29 at number three and we decided to go with Drake May.
00:23:34 Then round two, there was a huge run on offensive tackles in the back half of the first round.
00:23:40 So we kind of reacted to that and took the left tackle out of Yale and then we kind of
00:23:46 moved up because there were some receivers going as well.
00:23:49 We traded 68 and 137 for 59 and 247 and we moved up and we got our ex wide receiver and
00:23:56 Tez Walker and reunited him with Drake May.
00:23:59 We might've just watched the UNC pro day as you can tell, but again, hitting the quarterback
00:24:05 offensive tackle wide receiver, big three needs in the first three picks there.
00:24:10 All right.
00:24:11 And we are, we're almost back on the board.
00:24:13 I'm still picking for Washington here.
00:24:15 All right.
00:24:16 I think, yeah.
00:24:17 All right.
00:24:18 We're back.
00:24:19 So the board looks a little different than it usually does when you get to this point.
00:24:26 Sione Vachie's here, which is super interesting.
00:24:28 Eric Hall, Marshawn Lloyd.
00:24:30 What's up?
00:24:31 Did they update the board?
00:24:33 They must've, yeah.
00:24:35 Dwayne Carter's still here.
00:24:36 Chris Abrams Drain.
00:24:38 That all being said, I think because we got such a project tackle earlier and this is
00:24:44 the other thing is, do we trade down?
00:24:45 Cause we have a gap from one Oh three to one 80.
00:24:48 I'd like to take a tackle here, but I'm also not opposed to trading down.
00:24:51 Yeah.
00:24:52 Cause so who Christian Jones is still there at just Siobhan Foster.
00:24:58 So here Rouse, I think we took last week.
00:25:02 We liked, yeah, we could trade down.
00:25:05 Cause what do we have?
00:25:06 An 80 pick gap.
00:25:07 So kind of less than that, less than that gap.
00:25:11 And I mean that works if they'll do it.
00:25:14 Right.
00:25:15 So this is, wait, it's just a fourth for what's one 45.
00:25:17 Is that a, this is a fourth or two fourths.
00:25:25 I don't have a trade.
00:25:30 That's fine.
00:25:31 I mean, if they'll do this, I'll do here, we'll make it a little more realistic.
00:25:33 We'll have one 47 instead of one 47.
00:25:36 So let's try that.
00:25:38 All right.
00:25:39 Thanks to the Broncos.
00:25:41 All right.
00:25:42 Now I do think we grab a tackle here.
00:25:45 Okay.
00:25:46 Yeah.
00:25:47 And a Christian Jones still on the board.
00:25:49 Javon Foster still on the board.
00:25:51 Walter Rouse still on the board.
00:25:52 Uh, Isaiah Adams, you like anybody here, Brian?
00:25:59 I mean, I still like, uh, Javon Foster kind of a big left tackle.
00:26:05 Christian Jones has a lot of versatility.
00:26:07 Just, uh, he has, he had the holding problems or he had the penalty problems.
00:26:11 I believe.
00:26:12 Yeah.
00:26:13 He's a lot of penalties.
00:26:14 Yeah.
00:26:15 So, and he was, I mean, he has the versatility, but he ended his longhorns career there on
00:26:21 the right, on the right side.
00:26:23 Um, I probably still lean Javon Foster.
00:26:28 I know we've taken him before though.
00:26:29 So I don't know if that was too much to go though.
00:26:31 I think we're far enough down at this point that we can double up if we want.
00:26:35 Okay.
00:26:36 Yeah.
00:26:37 Javon Foster would probably be my, my top option there.
00:26:39 Okay.
00:26:40 Javon Foster.
00:26:41 It is.
00:26:42 All right.
00:26:43 Keep going.
00:26:44 And we get this.
00:26:45 Oh, hang on.
00:26:46 We're gonna have to make a Washington.
00:26:47 Oh wait.
00:26:48 I didn't just draft him for Washington.
00:26:49 Did I know?
00:26:50 Okay.
00:26:51 Uh, Braylon Allen, Washington commander actually makes a ton of sense.
00:26:53 Um, if you missed it earlier, why we're drafting for Washington, we wanted to set up a scenario
00:26:58 at the beginning.
00:26:59 So we're just taking the top guy or two, I guess on the board.
00:27:03 Uh, cause I think I've taken three quarterbacks for them.
00:27:05 Uh, it just ignore that anyway.
00:27:08 All right.
00:27:09 Now don't ignore it.
00:27:10 Maybe we'll find it on one.
00:27:12 Right.
00:27:13 Um, all right.
00:27:14 So we've gone, let's, let's pull that up again one more time here.
00:27:17 Cause that just went kind of quick.
00:27:18 So we've taken Drake may a Medici to tackle from Yale, Tez Walker and Javon Foster.
00:27:24 So we've gone quarterback tackle receiver tackle.
00:27:28 Now we can kind of have some fun and go, go wherever we, we deem best.
00:27:32 So I was gonna say, we want to double up at receiver, but this is where the class kind
00:27:36 of starts to drop off, especially since a mean still is not in the simulator.
00:27:41 Um, who's here for corners.
00:27:47 I'd wait a little bit on MJ Devonshire.
00:27:49 Not yet.
00:27:50 I like him, but not here.
00:27:51 It's too early.
00:27:52 I mean, Ben Sinnett still here.
00:27:55 That's one.
00:27:57 So it was interesting.
00:28:00 I like both of those guys.
00:28:01 Um, were there any other defenders?
00:28:04 Let's see.
00:28:05 Oh, we go past rusher here.
00:28:06 Maybe.
00:28:07 Oh, let's, well, we're going running backs.
00:28:08 I mean, Dylan Loughbee, but I think, I think the Antonio Gibson signing kind of dream,
00:28:16 unfortunately, Dylan Johnson would be cool as a power back, but he's maybe a little bit
00:28:21 later.
00:28:22 I wouldn't be against Dylan Johnson here, but we can revisit Xavier Thomas is a good
00:28:25 player.
00:28:26 I, this is late form.
00:28:28 I don't think it's unrealistic.
00:28:29 It's on the later side, uh, speed rusher.
00:28:33 So he'd kind of be, you know, you'd probably draft him.
00:28:37 He'd probably not play a major role this year.
00:28:40 Maybe mostly just play on special teams, but next year when Josh Uche moves on, this would
00:28:44 be the guy we'd, we'd be talking about as, Hey, can he step in and fill that role as
00:28:47 that third down kind of pass rush specialist, I think for the player he is, for where we're
00:28:52 picking for their situation, that whole thing would make a ton of sense.
00:28:55 Um, I don't know if you like it.
00:28:57 I do like J uh, Jalen Simpson.
00:28:59 I think this is probably, maybe this is beyond respecting the board for him.
00:29:04 It's kind of, he's been weird cause he's been all over the place.
00:29:08 Early fifth round.
00:29:09 I think.
00:29:10 Yeah.
00:29:11 I like, uh, I like Bo braid, but I don't think he's just cause they brought back Kyle Duggar.
00:29:17 He's just like another one of those box safeties.
00:29:19 I do like him though, but probably not for the Patriots at this point.
00:29:23 So Jalen Simpson to me is a player who he was boundary corner for four years at Auburn.
00:29:27 Then he started playing free safety.
00:29:29 And so he can play both those spots.
00:29:31 He's got good size.
00:29:32 He's got good athleticism.
00:29:33 He's just, nobody really knows what position he plays.
00:29:35 So nobody's going to take in that high because you're probably going to have to develop them
00:29:39 to an extent.
00:29:40 Whereas if you're the Patriots, you need a free safety, but it's not going to be a guy
00:29:44 that's going to play a lot.
00:29:45 You kind of need him to play situationally and need a third boundary corner.
00:29:49 So that can be the same guy if you draft Jalen Simpson in theory.
00:29:54 So he's a guy that interests me.
00:29:57 People always yelled at us about them taking a kickoff.
00:29:58 They're going to do it.
00:29:59 This would be, you know, as early as they do it.
00:30:02 I do want to see is Dwayne Carter still here.
00:30:04 Did he fall?
00:30:05 He did not.
00:30:06 Uh, I know Evan said that, uh, uh, where'd he go?
00:30:09 Jordan Jefferson was impressive at LSU pro day.
00:30:12 We went through a couple options.
00:30:13 Uh, who are you, uh, who are you thinking, Brian?
00:30:15 I think we really talked about tight end.
00:30:17 Yeah, I would narrow it down to one of the top two tight ends there or Jalen Simpson's
00:30:24 kind of entry.
00:30:25 And just because of that versatility that you mentioned, cause you can, you know, he
00:30:28 could provide that free safety if you need it.
00:30:30 And then also he could, he could bump around the corner if you need it as well.
00:30:34 So that, that's where I would, I would kind of lean here.
00:30:37 Do we want to throw Dylan Johnson in there too?
00:30:41 I mean, I like Dylan Johnson.
00:30:42 I just, I don't know the whole Antonio Gibson thing kind of just steered me away from a
00:30:48 top one 50 pick for a running back.
00:30:51 All right.
00:30:52 So we have, who do we have?
00:30:53 We have Ben Sinnett, Theo Johnson, Jalen Simpson.
00:30:57 Oh, and Xavier Thomas was the other one.
00:30:59 Yeah.
00:31:00 He should be consideration here.
00:31:01 The edge guy.
00:31:02 So we'll try to do this once a draft.
00:31:04 This seems as good a chance as any chat final say first one to get five.
00:31:08 Remember you have four options.
00:31:09 It's Jalen Simpson, Xavier Thomas, Ben Sinnett, Theo Johnson.
00:31:12 The chat is Elliot Wolf.
00:31:13 The chat has final say over the pick.
00:31:16 Whoever gets off five comments first of those four will be the pick here.
00:31:21 All right.
00:31:22 We got one for Senate.
00:31:23 It's going to be hard.
00:31:24 This is for, we can just write this down.
00:31:25 Oh, I don't think this is going to be hard.
00:31:27 That's three for Ben Sinnett.
00:31:29 Up.
00:31:30 Theo got one.
00:31:31 Theo Johnson four for Ben Sinnett.
00:31:32 No one he wants.
00:31:33 Nobody has any interest in defense.
00:31:36 It's Ben Sinnett.
00:31:37 All right.
00:31:38 So the Patriots get their move tight end.
00:31:40 Okay.
00:31:41 So, uh, Ben Sinnett, it is, there we go.
00:31:43 All right.
00:31:44 I do think we should, is this a Washington pick?
00:31:46 Yeah.
00:31:47 I've seen some, uh, Ben Senate hype that he might be going tight end to win this draft
00:31:54 even, which I like Ben Senate, but I don't know about him over Jatavian Sanders.
00:31:59 He's so scheme specific.
00:32:00 I really wonder about that.
00:32:01 Um, what do we got on the edge here?
00:32:04 All right.
00:32:05 So the edge is falling on one 80, one 80 into the six round.
00:32:08 Do we not have a fifth rounder?
00:32:09 Do we trade that?
00:32:10 We traded it.
00:32:11 That was one 37.
00:32:12 Okay.
00:32:13 So Dylan Johnson is still here.
00:32:18 Oh God.
00:32:21 Uh, who I obviously like it's probably Jalen Simpson might still be here, but it's too
00:32:27 far down.
00:32:28 So MJ Devonshire, cause I want a quarter.
00:32:31 Uh, I just want to pull up his, um, height weight, uh, from pit really interesting player
00:32:40 in the sense.
00:32:41 And I, I know I say everybody's an interesting player.
00:32:42 I'm trying to be better about that.
00:32:43 So he's another one of these tweener corners where he can play on the boundary.
00:32:48 He can play in the slot.
00:32:49 He played press man in college.
00:32:51 Um, maybe he can turn into a safety as the athleticism for it, but he's never really
00:32:55 done it.
00:32:57 My weird thing about MJ Devonshire, maybe this is cause I've watched more pit football
00:33:02 than I probably should have is, have you heard me say this before?
00:33:07 I've said this on a show.
00:33:08 I don't, I don't think so.
00:33:10 So MJ Devonshire when it's like the middle of the game and like not the highest stakes,
00:33:18 he's kind of frustrating because he, Oh, I think he did mention this.
00:33:22 Yeah.
00:33:23 He gets out muscled by bigger receivers and he's not a great tackler, but like two minutes
00:33:28 to go, you need to stop.
00:33:29 He's suddenly primed to robbery.
00:33:30 It was like, it's super weird that he, the number of like game ceiling plays he made
00:33:34 when the whole game, you're like Devonshire is getting cooked.
00:33:37 And then, you know, against a receiver much better than him, he steps up and makes this
00:33:40 great play up at one 90 as a third corner to try him out.
00:33:47 I mean, at this point, we're not talking about roster locks.
00:33:50 He's going to come in, he's going to compete with, uh, uh, he's going to compete with.
00:33:56 Why am I, right.
00:34:00 Marco, uh, Marco Wilson.
00:34:01 So I don't love him, but if we want to take a corner, like that board's drying up quick,
00:34:07 we want to double up at receiver.
00:34:10 This is by no territory, sadly, the simulator, Anthony Gould's gotten a lot of hype as of
00:34:15 late.
00:34:16 He had an impressive combine.
00:34:19 I mean, so I still haven't gotten into him as much as I want to.
00:34:22 You want to, you want to talk about him a little bit?
00:34:24 I haven't watched him a lot either, but I just, I remember watching the combine and
00:34:29 he just, it was, it was, he had a bowl too.
00:34:32 He might've been at a bowl, uh, I'm blanking, but you know, just, just watching it like
00:34:37 on TV and then you just kept hearing his name pop up randomly, randomly, like make it make
00:34:42 him play.
00:34:43 So he was definitely someone, you know, we have a month here that I wanted to dig into
00:34:47 a little bit more as this, you know, as you assume they might kind of double dip at this,
00:34:51 this receiver spot.
00:34:52 But, um, but yeah, he did have an impressive combine.
00:34:56 Let me pull up his RAS score as we, as we talked about this.
00:34:59 Again, Dylan Johnson's still there.
00:35:00 I, I know what you said about Antonio Gibson, but I think realistically you need three backs
00:35:05 to get through a season and it got like Dylan Johnson who runs as hard as he does in the
00:35:10 post hip tackle era or hip drop tackle era might be a bit of a weapon.
00:35:15 Yep.
00:35:16 I could see that.
00:35:17 I do think you're gonna take a running back in those traps or do you want to go ahead
00:35:20 on, on Google?
00:35:21 I was just going to say Gould ran a four, three, nine.
00:35:23 That might've been why he got, uh, and he had like a lead explosion, explosive grades,
00:35:29 elite, he's like five, eight, right?
00:35:31 He is.
00:35:32 Yeah, he's five, eight, one 74.
00:35:34 So I might not be a great fit with pop Douglas already on the team.
00:35:39 Yeah.
00:35:40 What's his role going to be?
00:35:41 Right.
00:35:42 So I like Dylan Johnson here.
00:35:43 I do.
00:35:44 I like Dylan Johnson here.
00:35:45 We can do that.
00:35:46 I think this is more of the range that they could look to.
00:35:48 Yeah.
00:35:49 Look at it back.
00:35:50 All right.
00:35:51 Anymore.
00:35:52 I'm not a defensive player.
00:35:54 Um, do any of these corners, I mean, we've really run dry corner.
00:35:58 Um, any of these edge guys stand out to you, Jalen, Harold, Jalen green, Kali Duke.
00:36:06 We took Jeff coat last draft.
00:36:08 Yeah.
00:36:09 This is, I mean, he's like late, late in the draft.
00:36:13 Yeah.
00:36:14 Any, no interest in any of these guys.
00:36:17 Not really.
00:36:18 Honestly.
00:36:19 It's, it's ironic because the Patriots don't need defensive players, obviously.
00:36:24 Right.
00:36:25 We all know that, but, um, it's not a good defensive draft.
00:36:30 So you're waiting too late to try to add your defensive player.
00:36:32 Uh, and then there aren't any, um, I, I see some people in the chat talking about Qantas
00:36:38 stiggers.
00:36:39 I don't believe he's in the simulator.
00:36:41 I feel like I would have noticed that.
00:36:43 So I don't think he is either.
00:36:45 I would take him and this is where you take him.
00:36:46 That would be great.
00:36:47 Uh, so for people who don't know, he played, didn't even play D two football.
00:36:53 Like he was at school to play D two football season got shot, shut down because of COVID
00:36:58 his dad passed away.
00:36:59 He quit football cause he just was depressed.
00:37:01 He couldn't handle it.
00:37:03 He was, where was he?
00:37:04 What was he wearing?
00:37:05 Like Chick-fil-a or something?
00:37:06 Um, I think so.
00:37:07 Yeah.
00:37:08 Went signed up for the fan controlled football league, which is the one Johnny Manziel and
00:37:13 Josh Gordon played in.
00:37:15 Got the attention of a Canadian football league coach, earned a tryout, made the team was
00:37:22 a CFL rookie the year last year, and now he's in the draft.
00:37:26 So fascinating story.
00:37:28 Fascinating, fascinating, fascinating story.
00:37:30 Uh, but PFF apparently not fascinating for PFF simulator to put them on.
00:37:37 I did pull up Jalen Harrell's scouting report here.
00:37:40 Uh, solid mental processing, solid hand placement on the edge takes Paul as well.
00:37:45 Solid at closing down on the backside of run solid tackler.
00:37:49 That sounds like a Patriot.
00:37:50 Yeah, he's just fine.
00:37:51 He's just fine.
00:37:52 Six, four, two 50.
00:37:53 So he's just, you know, it's a fine player.
00:37:58 I think he's a good athlete too for the edge, for the edge guy, 37 inch vertical didn't
00:38:04 run at the combine.
00:38:05 I wanted to say Michigan even like experimented with him off the ball.
00:38:09 I could be completely wrong with that.
00:38:11 Let me pull up.
00:38:12 I can tell you, yeah, he played off the ball 23 times last year.
00:38:16 Okay.
00:38:17 So not much, but he did a little bit.
00:38:19 Yeah, we can take, I mean, that, that makes sense to me.
00:38:24 This is the hunt.
00:38:25 He's like the D two guy, right?
00:38:26 I don't think he's in this either.
00:38:28 Who are you looking for?
00:38:30 I pulled them up.
00:38:31 The Jalik's hunt.
00:38:33 Isn't he the defensive?
00:38:34 He is in this.
00:38:35 Yeah, he goes early.
00:38:37 Oh, he goes early.
00:38:39 Oh, or is he not in it?
00:38:41 I thought he was.
00:38:42 Oh no, it's, it's not.
00:38:43 It's like Malik's right.
00:38:44 Or yeah, he's not.
00:38:45 I think, I think he's in this.
00:38:46 I feel like I've seen him, but maybe not.
00:38:52 Yeah, I think Jalen Harold.
00:38:57 Yeah.
00:38:58 All right.
00:38:59 Let's do her.
00:39:00 We still got to figure out two more of these.
00:39:01 Um, it was that one 93.
00:39:04 Yeah.
00:39:05 So, all right.
00:39:08 A wide receiver.
00:39:10 We're really, really slow here.
00:39:13 Um, I want to pull up Sakari Franklin size.
00:39:19 Um, it's Kari Franklin.
00:39:24 There's other, we could go triple tackle.
00:39:26 We could go interior here.
00:39:28 Washington pick just FYI.
00:39:29 Oh, well, so then let's not, uh, let's not make it with Patriots.
00:39:34 You know what they'll get a no, cause I'm gonna want to take them.
00:39:35 They will get a kid from air force nation's capital.
00:39:41 You can pull double duty there.
00:39:42 Um, so, all right.
00:39:44 Jalen Ford still here.
00:39:46 I, it's a little late for it.
00:39:50 It's too late for him.
00:39:51 I'm just going to say that, uh, CJ Hanson, the guard from Holy cross, they're going to
00:39:55 need athletic linemen, pick up some interior offensive line depth.
00:39:58 He could make sense here.
00:40:00 Uh, who else do we got?
00:40:02 Uh, he dealt with a quarterback Carter Bradley.
00:40:04 I think we've done that.
00:40:05 Um, so, all right, here's an interesting guy who want to triple up a tackle Josiah, uh,
00:40:10 as a rim, I believe it is.
00:40:12 So he's a converted defensive lineman.
00:40:15 And I like the positional converts because I think it's, you know, there's that old saying
00:40:20 in baseball.
00:40:22 If you, you have two guys that run to first base in four seconds, but one guy does it
00:40:26 in perfect form.
00:40:27 The other guy does it with terrible form.
00:40:28 You take the guy with the terrible form because he's doing with terrible form with the other
00:40:32 guys doing with perfect form.
00:40:33 And what happens when you coach them up?
00:40:34 This guy's only been playing offensive line for two years and he's on NFL radar just from
00:40:39 that.
00:40:40 So pure project, but you look at his size, which is here, six, six, three 20.
00:40:45 I think he measured a three 27 at the combine.
00:40:47 I think he's a little bigger than that.
00:40:49 Um, I mean, we're in the seventh round, he's a lottery ticket, but I think of anybody we're
00:40:53 going to take here is going to be lottery ticket.
00:40:55 And he's a, I think as good a lottery ticket as any.
00:40:59 Yeah.
00:41:00 I mean, I like, we talk a lot about those kind of project day three offensive tackles
00:41:05 that we saw at the combine or like the Frank crumbs or the, the Grables from UCF.
00:41:10 So I like the idea of adding out any one of those guys.
00:41:13 I don't know honestly much about this Eastern Kentucky guy, but, uh, I do like the idea
00:41:20 of like, get as many kind of project offensive tackles, uh, in the building as possible.
00:41:26 Keep throwing as much on the wall and see if something sticks at that position.
00:41:30 So six, six, three 29, 35 inch arms only did the bench press at the combine put up 28 reps.
00:41:39 All the positives.
00:41:40 I'll just give you a scatter report here from NFL.com lands.
00:41:43 They're lying or basically like, so has the NFL frame has the quickness to move in the
00:41:49 run game has the athletic ability to recover, you know, has strength in his hands.
00:41:54 And then all the downsides are, you know, that his techniques not good basically.
00:41:58 So this is just raw, raw, raw, raw, raw player.
00:42:02 So get them in here.
00:42:04 We have three offensive line coaches now, right?
00:42:07 With Scott Peters, Kruger or, uh, Mike McCarthy, get them in here.
00:42:11 He's got all the, the ability.
00:42:13 You just got to coach it out of them.
00:42:15 So, uh, yeah, we'll take him.
00:42:18 I think that's a, that's a good pick there.
00:42:20 And then do we want to double, what do we want to do with the last pick?
00:42:22 Do you want to double up a receiver?
00:42:24 Do we, he, did we ever take a defensive player?
00:42:28 Uh, we just took a, the Michigan edge defender.
00:42:31 Right.
00:42:32 Um, where was he from?
00:42:35 East, uh, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky.
00:42:38 Yeah.
00:42:39 Well, he was at the shrine bowl.
00:42:41 Yeah.
00:42:42 I believe.
00:42:43 Yeah.
00:42:44 So go watch that again for him.
00:42:47 We can grab Gabe Hall who was a senior bowl standout.
00:42:51 Uh, a lot of linebackers left.
00:42:54 I like, uh, from Washington.
00:42:57 He can move around.
00:42:58 Yep.
00:42:59 He's a rangy guy, probably a little late for him, but what are you thinking?
00:43:07 Uh, just scroll through the top, like the all section there a little bit, just see who's
00:43:13 tall.
00:43:14 Yeah.
00:43:15 Trey knocks or Sheen Ali Carter, Bradley Trevin Wallace, Jaden Sheridan, Andrew rain, Dallas
00:43:20 grant, Layden Robinson, Kalee Duke, Nathan Watson, Jordan McGee, JJ Weaver.
00:43:25 Oh, you like a Ola Dapa, right?
00:43:27 Key tunnel with Dapo.
00:43:28 Yep.
00:43:29 He's one of those, again, one of those like kind of box safeties, but you know, you're
00:43:34 picking here and the seventh round, you could probably afford that.
00:43:37 Right.
00:43:38 Uh, Josh Proctor double up a tight end, Jared Wiley.
00:43:41 I don't think that'd make a ton of sense, but, uh, Sam Hartman, Ketan Slovis make my
00:43:49 happy.
00:43:50 Yeah.
00:43:51 If Mike says, Keaton Slovis in the chat in the next 10 seconds, I don't even know if
00:43:56 he's watching, but that's the pick.
00:43:58 Now he's trying to win a, uh, he's got, he's got, he's too busy with his new podcast.
00:44:04 Oh, true.
00:44:05 Um, I mean, if we want to double up a receiver at this point, it's probably Leatric Griffin,
00:44:12 Leatric Griffin, who's just, again, super raw player.
00:44:17 Who's just explosive athlete, but he's not really what you'd call a football player.
00:44:22 Uh, any kickers available?
00:44:25 Ooh, you know, kicker.
00:44:27 I'm sure they're all available.
00:44:28 Cause yeah, they probably are.
00:44:31 Not that I'm not that I'm really team drafted kicker, but it's just something we haven't
00:44:35 done.
00:44:36 No, that's a good point.
00:44:37 So my guess is Riker and Cardi would be off the board at this point.
00:44:42 Yeah.
00:44:43 So we're going to, we're going to respect the board when it comes to them.
00:44:46 Kirsten Mivas, the bigger kicker or the thicker kicker.
00:44:50 Sorry.
00:44:51 Would probably be there.
00:44:52 Uh, Cam Little would be the other one.
00:44:54 I could go thicker kicker.
00:44:55 I could be talked into the thicker kicker.
00:44:57 The kicker.
00:44:58 Uh, it's him or who was the other one you said from, um, uh, Cam Little.
00:45:07 I just think Riker and Cardi are going to be off the board.
00:45:09 Yeah, I agree.
00:45:10 I think they're probably, should we put it to the chat?
00:45:14 Kick it to the chat.
00:45:15 Kick it.
00:45:16 Very nice.
00:45:17 All right.
00:45:18 So again, I see some people saying Cardi, we're going to respect the board.
00:45:19 Think about last year, the top two kickers went in the top one 20.
00:45:23 These guys are not going to be here.
00:45:25 Harrison Mivas might be Cam Little might be.
00:45:28 So put in the chat, Harrison Mivas is a 250 pound kicker from Missouri who does not warm
00:45:33 up but hits every single kick.
00:45:35 And I actually don't know how much that cam literally just kicker from Arkansas, but let
00:45:38 it go.
00:45:39 Uh, we got one for the thicker kicker.
00:45:43 Uh, what else do we got here?
00:45:48 Uh, another for the thicker kicker.
00:45:51 Same guy.
00:45:52 He's just, he just really, he just really 250 pound kicker.
00:45:56 I'm counting that.
00:45:57 I, I, I might be overselling that a little bit.
00:46:00 Uh, Harris did me.
00:46:02 This is listed at two 43.
00:46:05 Okay.
00:46:06 So I got a vote for no kicker.
00:46:08 All right.
00:46:09 We got vote for thick boy.
00:46:12 So that'll count.
00:46:13 I might've rigged this the way I set it up.
00:46:15 Uh, what else do we got?
00:46:20 We only got, we only got, so we have three for Mivas and none for none for little and
00:46:27 we have one for no kicker.
00:46:29 We might have to go somewhere else.
00:46:33 I don't think this is what the chat wants.
00:46:34 It's the chat.
00:46:35 Well, I don't see any other recommendations.
00:46:38 Yeah.
00:46:39 They just want us to draft better.
00:46:41 I hate this one.
00:46:42 This is going to be great.
00:46:43 Good.
00:46:44 This is a good one.
00:46:45 We were way too, way too much praise.
00:46:48 Yeah.
00:46:49 We take Zion now.
00:46:51 So of all the people PFF doesn't have in the simulator Zion Nelson back at school figures.
00:46:56 Who's the, uh, I saw an LSU offensive lineman.
00:47:01 I don't know.
00:47:02 Did you hear anything about him from Evan at his pro day?
00:47:04 I think he was the, uh, or is that defensive?
00:47:09 I don't think he'd still be here.
00:47:10 No, it's just Tim Smith and Gabe Hall.
00:47:11 Uh, some people want linebacker and linebacker.
00:47:15 You know what?
00:47:16 I'll look at linebackers.
00:47:17 That's fair.
00:47:18 Uh, so again, we'll sign the kicker and UDFA.
00:47:25 Yeah.
00:47:26 Um, so there are, there are some interesting linebackers here.
00:47:28 Previn Wallace is, I mean, there's, there's some linebackers I like.
00:47:32 I don't know why PFF has these guys falling like 150 picks beyond where they're supposed
00:47:39 to go.
00:47:40 Uh, Jackson sermon would be a great pick here from Cal not in the simulator.
00:47:44 Unfortunately, shockers.
00:47:45 Um, the other two last year, like I started bitching around the combine and they put everybody
00:47:53 in and I assumed it was because of me.
00:47:57 Uh, so the two that stand out to me that I know a little bit about here are Aaron Casey
00:48:04 and Easton Gibbs.
00:48:05 So we can go, we can do a little scouting report.
00:48:07 Look here.
00:48:08 Casey six, one, two 31 ran a four seven five at the combine.
00:48:13 Um, zero line Casey looks and hits like an NFL inside linebacker, but doesn't see the
00:48:18 game like one.
00:48:19 So for what it's worth, just a guy like that.
00:48:23 And it says in the strengths, physicality is the first word that comes to mind.
00:48:26 Special teams, new kickoff rule.
00:48:28 Great fit, great fit for somebody like that.
00:48:31 Um, Easton Gibbs, I'll give you from the combine six foot two 32.
00:48:35 He's more of a mover, um, linebacker with average size and good production that doesn't
00:48:40 always reflect us in his consistency of play.
00:48:43 Gibbs falls below the cutoff line as an NFL athlete, lacking explosiveness.
00:48:46 Uh, Casey, Casey to me is more of like, I think at this point you're drafting for special
00:48:51 teams and Casey would be that guy.
00:48:53 Yeah.
00:48:54 I see a lot of people in the chat talking about Trevin Wallace.
00:48:57 I like him, but I don't think he's going to be here at pick two.
00:49:00 Trevin Wallace.
00:49:01 Right.
00:49:02 So we're respecting the board here.
00:49:03 He's going to be a fringe top 100 pick and we'll force you.
00:49:06 Who else likes going to go on the top one 50.
00:49:08 So this is just the board being weird.
00:49:10 Uh, yeah, I think the, uh, the first scouting report you read Aaron Casey.
00:49:18 Yeah.
00:49:19 If, if like a physical good athlete, like that screen, you got it.
00:49:23 That new kickoff, that new kickoff rule.
00:49:25 So we can go Aaron Casey there.
00:49:28 Let's go here in Casey.
00:49:30 And then I don't know if we have to pick you in for Washington.
00:49:32 Nope.
00:49:33 Perfect.
00:49:34 Perfect.
00:49:35 And that, well, that, why did that one feel so tough?
00:49:38 I think it's because we got thrown early by the, uh, the, the tackle run in the, uh, the
00:49:44 late twenties really just kind of.
00:49:48 Messed us up there.
00:49:49 Best our brains up there.
00:49:50 Yeah.
00:49:51 And the, the board got really weird too.
00:49:53 Like there was a lot of guys.
00:49:54 I even feel weird about where we took Senate.
00:49:56 Like there were a lot of guys there that probably shouldn't have been there.
00:50:01 Yeah.
00:50:02 There's a lot of guys that we would realistically take one early.
00:50:04 Yep.
00:50:05 But we can, uh, run it through to recap very quickly.
00:50:08 The whole hall from mock draft 3.0.
00:50:12 Again we started, uh, we had the commanders take JJ McCarthy so we could have the Drake
00:50:17 may verse Jade and Daniel's debate as their pro days or the last two days.
00:50:21 So we ended up going with Drake may as our quarterback there.
00:50:25 And then again, we just said that there was that huge run of offensive tackles in the
00:50:30 late twenties.
00:50:31 And we just kind of reacted to that and took a model G from Yale as our tackle.
00:50:37 And then we moved up because there was kind of a run on wide receivers and we didn't want
00:50:40 to miss out on that one either.
00:50:42 And we took Tez Walker, get that true X in the building obviously has the chemistry with
00:50:48 Drake may can get down field, let him use that deep ball to his advantage.
00:50:51 So Tez Walker in the building, in the third pick, and then we moved back in the fourth
00:50:57 round to recoup some of that draft capital.
00:50:59 We double up on offensive tackle because you know, we kind of had to get one a little earlier
00:51:04 than we wanted to, uh, at in the second round.
00:51:07 So we get Javon Foster, a left tackle project from Missouri.
00:51:11 And then with our second, fourth round pick, we get Ben Senate, uh, really, you know, big
00:51:16 body, but good athlete at the, at that tight end position.
00:51:19 He'd be a good addition to that room with Austin Hooper, uh, and Hunter Henry didn't
00:51:24 have a fifth round pick.
00:51:26 And then in the sixth round, we get Dylan Johnson, a running back.
00:51:29 He's your third back behind her, Andre Stevenson, who enters a contract year and Antonio Gibson,
00:51:34 who they signed in free agency.
00:51:36 And then with three seventh round picks, we finally get a defensive player in jail and
00:51:41 Harold from Michigan.
00:51:42 And then another like pure project offensive tackle out of Eastern Kentucky who, you know,
00:51:48 as Alex was saying, has all the size, the strength, the speed you want, he's just new
00:51:52 to the position.
00:51:53 So get him in the building, see if you can kind of coach him up and find something there
00:51:57 in the seventh round.
00:51:58 And then we end with a linebacker, Aaron Casey, who you probably project to be mostly a special
00:52:03 teams player.
00:52:04 It sounds like a physical guy.
00:52:05 Good athlete could be a good fit in that new kickoff unit with the new rules that did pass
00:52:11 earlier this week.
00:52:12 So that's your hall.
00:52:14 I see a lot more complaints in the comments than last time, which probably means we did
00:52:19 something good, did it.
00:52:22 And I don't know what thoughts in general, we'll do it at the end.
00:52:25 Thoughts on this one is they got Drake May and they paired him with Tez Walker.
00:52:28 I like that.
00:52:29 The rest of it makes me really nervous.
00:52:31 I would be.
00:52:33 And look, I'm saying I would be, we did this.
00:52:35 I would be bummed.
00:52:36 They didn't trade up, but we already traded up from 34 and one.
00:52:39 We traded down from 34 and another, we're trying to explore all the possibilities.
00:52:42 So we stayed at 34.
00:52:45 And it just, the board did not fall our way at 34.
00:52:47 It just didn't.
00:52:48 Sometimes that happens.
00:52:49 Uh, they got the quarterback.
00:52:51 They got a good receiver.
00:52:53 I like Dylan Johnson.
00:52:54 I'd kind of be excited about that.
00:52:56 I would be very lukewarm on this draft.
00:52:58 I, I, it's not bad because they took Drake May and they need a quarterback and they got
00:53:03 a quarterback besides that.
00:53:06 It's fine.
00:53:07 I don't think it's bad, but I definitely don't think it's good.
00:53:10 Yeah.
00:53:11 I like, uh, I love having, you know, Drake May, but I think, uh, our last draft is probably
00:53:17 stronger.
00:53:18 So, you know, we, we took Drake May again, but it's probably stronger around two through
00:53:21 seven, you know, the offensive tackle again, that, that run really came back to kind of
00:53:26 bite us.
00:53:27 So that, that's kind of a question mark.
00:53:28 And then, uh, I like Tez Walker, but maybe not the strongest option and day two there.
00:53:36 So, but you get your quarterback hopefully.
00:53:39 So, and then hopefully one of those offensive tackles, he drafted three of them.
00:53:43 So hopefully one of those, those can give you something, but yeah, that's, that's the
00:53:47 whole mock draft 3.0 real quick.
00:53:50 You want to see the draft I did with, uh, for Washington, not even trying.
00:53:53 Sure.
00:53:54 JJ McCarthy, Tyler Newbin, Peyton Wilson, Jaden Hicks, Jalen, right.
00:53:58 They actually had decent track.
00:54:01 Jerry Jones, Braylon Allen, Austin Reed, and Trey Taylor.
00:54:04 They actually did.
00:54:05 Okay.
00:54:06 I like that draft a lot better.
00:54:07 Mine is JJ McCarthy.
00:54:08 I like that draft a lot better.
00:54:11 Lots of safety.
00:54:12 Well, you just see what the, what the PFF simulator doesn't value.
00:54:16 Lots of safeties, lots of running backs.
00:54:18 Got a couple of linebackers.
00:54:19 Um, I don't know.
00:54:20 I thought that was funny, but yeah, on the Patriots draft, I mean, I would say they had
00:54:28 the draft they needed, but probably not the draft they wanted.
00:54:31 Yep.
00:54:32 Uh, very quickly before we log off, we did get a start chat here that we can bring up.
00:54:37 What do you think about the Patriots trading back for the Vikings package?
00:54:41 1123 next year's one pick a wide receiver.
00:54:44 We'll mix an offensive tackle second round.
00:54:46 We will do a mock draft at some point where we do explore a trade back.
00:54:52 Obviously this Vikings package is one of the most popular ones that are out there now that
00:54:56 they have a second first round pick, but, uh, just maybe that we'll do that next week.
00:55:01 We'll, we'll explore a trade back perhaps, but what are you just, how are you kind of
00:55:04 feeling on that?
00:55:05 That trade back package right now?
00:55:07 I'm still the same way.
00:55:08 If they don't believe in any of the quarterbacks at the top of the board trade down, cause
00:55:11 don't take a quarterback you don't believe in at the same time.
00:55:16 If you're not taking the quarterback at three and trading down, I don't know what, why people
00:55:18 won't understand this, especially this says wide receiver, or I think the saying Penix
00:55:23 at 11, which might be realistic.
00:55:24 You're not getting Penix at 34.
00:55:27 You probably not going to get them at 23, especially after the pro day to everybody's
00:55:32 saying first round lock, first round lock.
00:55:34 If you believe in the quarterback, take them when you have a chance to take them.
00:55:38 If you don't believe in them, don't believe in them at all.
00:55:41 Or don't take them at all.
00:55:43 What is, what is the give and take between, I don't want to take this guy at three, but
00:55:47 I'll take him at 23.
00:55:49 What's the difference there?
00:55:50 Really?
00:55:51 You're, you're blowing a first round pick.
00:55:53 If he's good, somebody else is probably going to realize he's good and jump you to take
00:55:57 him.
00:55:58 If he's bad, it doesn't matter whether you took him at three or 23, you have a bad quarterback.
00:56:02 You have to restart anyway.
00:56:03 So if they, if they can trade it, and I'll say this too, for the Vikings package, it
00:56:09 is intriguing to me.
00:56:11 I would, I do get hesitant about trading down that far.
00:56:15 I look at the giants at six and if you can get six, whatever their second round pick
00:56:19 is, it's like 38 or something like that.
00:56:22 Six 38 next year's first.
00:56:24 I would rather do that because then you still, you might not get the blue chip player at
00:56:29 11.
00:56:30 You'll get a blue chip player at six.
00:56:31 It might not be Marvin Harrison.
00:56:32 It might not be Joe.
00:56:33 All it might be all you might be able to get all there.
00:56:35 You could still probably get Roma doons.
00:56:36 They may be neighbors.
00:56:38 Like depending on how it all falls, you'll have a chance at blue chip player.
00:56:42 You get the extra second round pick this year, which is nice.
00:56:45 And now you have two first next year to go up and get the quarterback.
00:56:48 That to me is the best.
00:56:51 We don't want to take a quarterback at three scenario is you trade down, stay in the top
00:56:55 10, take blue chip players through the top 50 and just worry about quarterback next year
00:57:00 and just get the rest of the thing loaded up.
00:57:01 So you have a Ross, you can plug the quarterback right into.
00:57:04 Yeah, I'm a hundred percent with you.
00:57:06 That was the one thing that I was kind of hesitant on with the Vikings as you go to
00:57:11 11 and there's probably like nine or 10, maybe eight or nine like blue chip offensive players
00:57:17 in this draft.
00:57:18 So you're like, you're just missing that cutoff.
00:57:19 And is that, that worth it?
00:57:21 So the giants was really the team I was looking at because you can get six and then what's
00:57:26 their second round pick like 47, somebody in the chat just said it's 47, yeah, 47.
00:57:32 And then a first next year, like you're still in that, that prime range at six to get, you
00:57:38 know, a blue chip offensive lineman or wide receiver.
00:57:41 And then like I was looking around, I was exploring, just messing around with the trade
00:57:45 stuff the other day.
00:57:46 Like you could have six and then you could trade your 34 and 68 and it gets you back
00:57:51 up to like the low twenties.
00:57:52 So then like you could have six 21 and 47 and you're still set up pretty nicely there.
00:57:57 Or you could just keep the two second round picks and you're 68 and maybe you got two
00:58:01 receivers there.
00:58:02 So that, that's a package I might explore more if the giants are interested just cause
00:58:06 you can still get, you know, hopefully Joe Alt or Malik neighbors there at six instead
00:58:10 of missing out on all of them and go into 11.
00:58:12 And then you're going into that, that tier two type of guys at those positions there.
00:58:16 So I don't think that, cause everybody looks at this and they, they, you know, it's all
00:58:21 neat and tidy because you get two first round picks this year, which is interesting.
00:58:25 I don't value that 23rd pick that much to that, to that extent.
00:58:31 A lot of, because of what you just said, if you get six and 47 from the giants, now you
00:58:36 flip 47 or you flip 34 plus something, you get up into the late twenties and you pick
00:58:42 six instead of 11th.
00:58:43 And that costs you probably a fourth or fifth round pick.
00:58:46 I'll pay the extra fourth or fifth round pick to get to pick at six instead of 11.
00:58:50 And you can still have a way to do for a two first round picks.
00:58:54 So it's, it's, I get why it's attractive and I'm not necessarily saying it's the worst
00:58:59 offer.
00:59:00 I also expect maybe another first or another future top 50 pick in there, but as anti-trade
00:59:07 down as I am, if they do, I really hope they stay in the top 10.
00:59:11 Yup.
00:59:12 Yeah.
00:59:13 And I'd love the giants future first round pick because that's going to, that's probably
00:59:17 going to be, if the giants are going to give you next year's first, you might get to be
00:59:21 the Chicago bears and that's like where the position they're in this year.
00:59:24 So if I would rather have, that's a good way, but I would rather have the giants first round
00:59:29 pick next year than the Vikings in the 23rd.
00:59:33 Well, you're going to get the next year first round pick either way, but I'd rather have
00:59:36 the giants first round pick next year than the 23rd overall pick this year.
00:59:41 Yeah.
00:59:42 Especially if you get, if it's like the giants first round pick next year and 47 compared
00:59:47 to 23 and a Viking first round pick next year.
00:59:50 And in the first one, you're picking six instead of 11th too.
00:59:52 Yeah, exactly.
00:59:53 So that, that's a package I would explore more, but maybe we can get into that next
00:59:59 week.
01:00:00 We'll have another, um, mock draft.
01:00:02 We'll be back Tuesday for normal, normal show reacting to whatever news happens.
01:00:06 Barth very quickly.
01:00:07 No rants before we log off.
01:00:09 It is opening day, opening night.
01:00:11 I guess you can feel the excitement in the air.
01:00:13 Red Sox prediction just very quickly.
01:00:16 Uh, will they be better than 78 wins last year?
01:00:23 The Red Sox will, uh, have to pick that third.
01:00:28 This is hard.
01:00:29 I want to say the Red Sox will pick higher than the Patriots, but I don't think they're
01:00:31 that, I don't think they're going to be that bad.
01:00:33 Like their lineup, their lineup isn't terrible.
01:00:35 Especially if some of these kids come along, if like Raffaello starts hitting and a brave
01:00:38 start sitting, nobody's going to confuse them for the 2018 Red Sox, but like, there'll be
01:00:42 middle of the pack and that'll win you a few games.
01:00:46 The pitching's just, I mean, it's atrocious.
01:00:48 It's piss poor.
01:00:49 It's it's unacceptable and bordering on rant there.
01:00:53 I'm getting another rant voice.
01:00:54 So I'll try to hold back.
01:00:55 But, uh, my prediction is Red Sox.
01:00:56 Oh, actually there's a draft lottery in baseball.
01:01:00 And I forgot about that.
01:01:01 So here's my prediction for the Red Sox season.
01:01:03 They will end up picking higher than the Patriots because they're going to end up in the lottery.
01:01:08 And the only reason leagues Institute of draft lottery is to rig the draft, to make sure
01:01:12 the teams they want to be good or good.
01:01:14 And they're going to rig it for the Red Sox to get a top three pick because they need
01:01:17 the Red Sox to be good again.
01:01:18 So Red Sox finish bottom 10 record and then end up with the top three pick in the lottery.
01:01:25 That's my prediction prediction.
01:01:26 But I think one of Raphael or Bray will hit and that'll be fun.
01:01:30 Yeah.
01:01:31 So less than 78 wins, which is what they got last year.
01:01:33 Yeah.
01:01:34 I think they're going to be like low seventies, high sixties, low seventies.
01:01:38 Cause guys are going to start getting hurt and guys are going to check out late in the
01:01:41 season.
01:01:42 And I think core is already lame duck.
01:01:44 Like he's made it known that he's one foot out the door.
01:01:47 I think it can get really ugly down the, down the stretch.
01:01:51 Yep.
01:01:52 Somebody wants to do a Red Sox mock draft.
01:01:53 So maybe this summer when we really need content in July, we'll do a Red Sox.
01:01:57 We'll get a Red Sox mock draft.
01:01:59 We'll have to get milking on for that.
01:02:01 Perfect.
01:02:02 All right.
01:02:03 So go enjoy opening night.
01:02:04 Everyone, if you would rather watch that than March madness is back and NCAA hockey tournament
