00:13World leaders rejected Israel's genocidal actions and the unilateral coercive measures
00:17in the first day of the general debate.
00:22Argentina's Chamber of Deputies debates bill to privatize Aerolíneas Argentinas, an initiative
00:27promoted by the government of Javier Milley.
00:32And here again Helene is intensifying growing insights and forecasts to hammer Florida's
00:36Gulf Coast on Thursday with potentially devastating storm surge, damaging winds and flooding rainfall.
00:45Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:49We begin with the news.
01:06On the second day of keynote addresses at the United Nations General Assembly, world
01:10leaders are proposing solutions to tackle global challenges that threaten peace and
01:14sustainable development.
01:16On the first day of the United Nations General Assembly, the senior authorities stressed
01:20the importance of taking action in the face of the climate crisis.
01:24In this regard, the heads of state and government rejected the genocidal actions of Israel and
01:29the imposition of unilateral coercive measures.
01:32The Latin American governments will play a key role in the second day with the speeches
01:36of President of Dominica Sylvain Burton and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela
01:42Iván Gil.
01:46Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs Iván Gil denounced Wednesday at the United Nations
01:50NATO's expansionism to South America with the complicity of what he called the lackey
01:56governments of Argentina and Ecuador.
01:59NATO's expansion also threatens peace in South America with the establishment of military
02:05bases with the complicity of the lackey governments of Argentina and Ecuador.
02:11In another part of his speech, the Venezuelan top diplomat accused the United States government
02:16of promoting and planning destabilisation attacks on his country, including assassination
02:21attempts against Bolivarian nation leaders.
02:24The very territory of the United States of America, attacks, assassination attempts,
02:29destabilisation and attacks against sovereign people such as Venezuela are continuously
02:33planned.
02:34To this end, they have resorted to the use of information and communication technologies,
02:38especially social media, controlled by the empire's frontmen who fabricate psychological
02:44wars aimed at exploiting feelings of hatred and destruction without control of any sort.
02:51While addressing the United Nations General Assembly, the President of Honduras, Xiomara
02:55Castro, denounced the current threats against her country's sovereignty.
03:00Today I am threatened by the same forces of capital that 15 years ago perpetrated a
03:10coup d'etat against President Manuel Zelaya.
03:18I called out this new conspiracy in the streets during the huge gatherings of people that
03:26took place on the 14th and 15th of September, our country's Independence Day.
03:40I am being threatened because I have brought structural changes to the economic model and
03:50because I have called out the unfair taxation regime that perpetuates inequalities, that
04:01gives to the most powerful and that exploits the poorest.
04:07In this context, the Honduran President also stressed on the role that global capitalism
04:12has played in destroying national resources and exerting oppression in the peoples of
04:16Latin America and the Caribbean.
04:21At this Assembly, the majority of leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean have
04:29called out global capitalism as the main factor responsible for the destruction of natural
04:39resources and as the oppressor of the conditions of life of humanity.
04:49Accumulation of economic gain prevails above human interest and the role of international
04:57financial bodies with their loans, with conditions attached to them, and fiscal and financial
05:06income are things that only aggravate the situation of poverty and dependency of our
05:13countries.
05:16Meanwhile on his lecture at the United Nations General Assembly, the President of Suriname,
05:21Shan Santokhi, stressed the need to foster renewable sources energy.
05:25In favour of a just transition to a carbon-less economy for the coming decades, but we also
05:34expect to be allowed to develop our natural resources in an environmentally friendly and
05:41balanced manner in compliance with the international standards and practices.
05:46In fact, we have already embarked on such a development path by introducing more renewables
05:54to our energy grid, utilising technological innovations to reduce our carbon footprint
06:02even further.
06:04Let's take a short break, but remember you can join us on TikTok and Telesur English
06:07where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and more.
06:11We'll be right back, stay with us.
06:31Welcome back.
06:32Argentina's Chamber of Deputies' debate bill to privatise Aerolíneas Argentinas, an initiative
06:38promoted by the government of Javier Milley.
06:40Deputies from opposition parties presented two bills for the state-owned airline to be
06:45sold to the private sector.
06:47The Transport and Budget Commission opened the rounds of debates on the sale of the airline
06:52in spite of the workers' rejection to the transport authorities' affirm that the company
06:57will compete on equal terms with other companies in the sector.
07:02Argentina's airline workers started a mobilisation in rejection of the privatisation of the airline.
07:12Although there is a police deployment, demonstrators began to gather in front of the Congress in
07:17protest against the implementation of the measure, which generates concern in the Union
07:22due to the risk of massive layoffs once the private company has control.
07:26This adds to the multiple expressions of rejection to the privatisation policies implemented
07:31by the current government management since the arrival of Javier Milley to power.
07:42Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador sent a letter to the parents of the 43 Ayotzinapa
07:47teachers who went missing a decade ago to update them about the progress of the investigations.
07:53The Mexican president read the content of the letter during his regular morning press
07:57conference, where he informed that there had been progress in the investigation and that
08:01certain details of the events had been clarified, but he emphasised that not with the speed
08:06expected.
08:08The Mexican leader also affirmed that the file will not be closed and the investigation
08:12will continue until the total clarification of the case.
08:16Yesterday, I actually sent a letter to the mothers and fathers of the young people from
08:30Ayotzinapa who disappeared 10 years ago.
08:42I made a commitment with them to look for their youngsters until they were found and
08:55we have been working on that all the time.
09:02The investigation has progressed, not as we would like to, but it is not a closed file.
09:19The investigation will continue and several things that were not known have been clarified.

10:13of schools were closed due to the armed violence.

10:21the country.
10:27Feminist organizations in El Salvador speak out in the framework of the Day of Action
10:31for the Decriminalization of Abortion, which is celebrated every September 28th.
10:36The demonstrators condemned the impact of the law of absolute criminalization of abortion
10:40in the country.
10:41They also denounced the case of a 19-year-old girl who was imprisoned under the emergency
10:46regime after facing an obstetric emergency in a hospital in the east of the country.
10:52The leaders of the organization rejected President Nayib Bukele's speech at the United Nations,
10:57where he affirmed that human rights are respected in El Salvador.
11:05Venezuela's Minister of Oil, Delsi Rodriguez, assured that the country is an attractive
11:09market for foreign investment in the energy sector.
11:12This was stated on Tuesday at a meeting held with the board of directors of PDVSA, the
11:17state-owned oil company of the Bolivarian nation.
11:20The minister, who is also the executive vice president of the country, said that the territory
11:24with the largest certified oil reserve in the world attracts investors.
11:29She also gave an account of the policy of alliances and cooperation, which includes
11:33the gas industry, and the efforts of the workers who have made possible the growth of the sector
11:39which continues to strengthen despite the attempts of the Venezuelan ultra-right wing
11:43and its international allies to weaken it.
12:09Welcome back to From the Sky with Elisabeth.
12:39Hurricane Helene is intensifying, growing in size, and forecast to hammer Florida's
12:44Gulf Coast on Thursday, with potentially devastating storm surge, damaging winds and flooding rainfall.
12:51The impacts from Helene won't stop at the coast.
12:53Life-threatening flash flooding, damaged winds and some tornadoes will also spread well inland
12:59into parts of the southeast.
13:01Helene became the fifth hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season late Wednesday morning.
13:06It is centered just under 500 miles south-southwest of Tampa, Florida, and is striking north.
13:13Helene's maximum sustained winds are 80 km per hour.
13:17The storm is drenching parts of Mexico, Yucatan and western Cuba.
13:25In this context, the U.S. authorities began the evacuation plan in the coastal areas of
13:30the state of Florida due to the arrival of Hurricane Helene.
13:33This week, the U.S. National Hurricane Center warned that Helene's winds are progressively
13:38increasing.
13:39In this regard, President Joe Biden declared a state of emergency, with authorities already
13:43prepared to address the crisis and support evacuation efforts.
13:47According to local media, Helene could change its trajectory, so the southeastern part of
13:52the country has also been put under alert for them to take the necessary preventive
13:58measures.
14:03In Colombia, nine fires are still active in the southeastern region of the country and
14:06water supplies have decreased as a result of the prolonged drought.
14:10The departments affected by the fires are Huila, Tolima, Nariño and Valle del Cauca,

14:38will be taken starting next Sunday, September 29th.
14:45The Lebanese Islamic Resistance movement, Hezbollah, has carried out a series of attacks
14:49against Israeli military targets, including the headquarters of the intelligence agency
14:52Mossad in Tel Aviv.
14:54On Wednesday morning, the Lebanese resistance group confirmed they hit the complex with
14:59a Qadar-1 ballistic missile.
15:01Hezbollah explained that the attack against the Israeli office is the response to the
15:05planning carried out by the body that resulted in the assassination of several of its commanders.
15:11On the other hand, Israel assured that the anti-aircraft defence intercepted the rocket.
15:16This is the first time since the escalation of tensions between Lebanon and Israel that
15:20the resistance attacks the city of Tel Aviv.
15:23The Zionist regime, in turn, attacked residential areas in southern Lebanon minutes later.
15:32Sudanese army troops bombed the western airport of the city of Ninjala, controlled by paramilitary
15:37forces.
15:38The attack took place after a cargo plane landed on the airport runway, carrying a load
15:43of heavy weapons.
15:45The information details that the bombing caused damage to the air terminal, the control tower
15:50and central offices, as well as to a barrack of the armed group.
15:53The nation is plunged into an internal war as the head of the Sudanese army, Abdel Fattah
15:59al-Burhan, and the leader of the paramilitary forces, Mohammed Handan Daghlou, seek control
16:04of the territory.

16:26They also detailed that during the last 24 hours, Israel carried out four new massacres
16:30in which at least 85 civilians were killed and more than 104 injured.
16:35In this sense, the authorities ratified the difficulties faced by the emergency teams
16:40in providing medical care to the victims and recovering the bodies trapped in the rubble.
16:50In the United States, anti-Zionist Jews mobilized in rejection of Washington's support for
16:55the genocide in the Gaza Strip.
16:57Activists demanded a weapon embargo against Israel amid its siege against the people of
17:03Palestine and its offensive against the territory of Lebanon.
17:06The demonstrators denounced that several pro-Israeli organizations in the United States seek to
17:11prevent the government from putting pressure on Israel due to the genocide in Gaza.
17:16The protesters denounced that the murder and extermination orchestrated by the Prime Minister
17:20of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, do not represent the values of the Jewish people and that hundreds
17:26of citizens reject these actions.
17:46On Tuesday, several trans-Peruvian unions announced a strike and march for Thursday,

18:01Valeriano, informed that in view of the crisis, a strike has been called back up by a march
18:07to the Congress to demand greater security and tangible measures from the government.

18:16Callao.
18:17The union leader reported that so far they have suffered 14 attacks due to the lack of
18:22security that is seriously affecting them.
18:33Extortionists have attended more to the march than authorities.
18:35None of the authorities have shown up.
18:37Not even they have supported us somehow for pity or compassion.
18:42They have felt nothing, therefore, we are still here, our colleagues are here.
18:46And we'll continue to move forward until we find ourselves further ahead.
