00:00Alright guys, so next request we got the S22 Ultra versus the Zenfone 9.
00:07So if you're in the market for a flagship device, these are some of the best phones
00:11that you can get.
00:13The Zenfone offers a more compact experience also with a few little tricks up its sleeve.
00:19And then the S22 Ultra offers the classic sort of flagship experience.
00:24Now as far as the software experience on these two phones, you get quite a different software
00:28experience.
00:29With the ASUS you get more of a stock Android kind of feel.
00:32It doesn't really have too much going on here.
00:35Like with Samsung you see you have a lot of Samsung applications and stuff on here, stuff
00:39like that installed.
00:40With ASUS it's really just, I think they have like one or two applications like the ASUS
00:45data transfer.
00:46It's really almost stock Android.
00:48But here's the thing, you get more yearly updates with the S22 Ultra.
00:53The ASUS is only getting like two.
00:54I think the S22 Ultra, I think it gets like four or five major OS updates at this point.
01:02Samsung has the longest major OS updates I think for any Android phone, which is awesome.
01:08So that's also something to think about as well too.
01:11So one thing that's pretty interesting is the specs here.
01:14So the ASUS does have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus chip.
01:21And then it's got Adreno 730, no SD card support, 128 gigs of internal storage, and
01:268 gigs of RAM.
01:28Or you can get the 256 version as well too.
01:30They have it online for not too much more.
01:32And then the S22 Ultra has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, and it also has Adreno 730,
01:40128 gigs of internal storage, 8 gigs of RAM for this one.
01:44But most of the time, most people should get the 256 gig if you have a good trade-in or
01:48something like that.
01:50As far as the specs go, so the 8 Gen 1, I've been noticing, because I was like, is there
01:56any type of difference with performance with these two chips?
02:00The Plus chip, the newer chip on the ASUS versus the older chip.
02:07You can see my, yeah, these are sort of like the realistic scores.
02:10So you do get a better multi-core score, a better single-core score.
02:17So you will get a slight boost in performance.
02:19Now, as far as like my daily use, I really did not notice too much of a difference in
02:23terms of just launching applications, overall smoothness of the interfaces.
02:30You can see the ASUS is just slightly, a little bit faster at loading up games and stuff like
02:36that.
02:37It's like a hair faster, really.
02:38Yeah, it's like a hair faster.
02:41So it's not like a real difference.
02:44They're both really smooth.
02:47One thing I did notice is that I don't get the scroll lag on the ASUS like I do sometimes
02:52on the S22 Ultra.
02:53I've had that issue since day one on this phone.
02:57Even though you can put it in, you see it's just really smooth scrolling.
03:01Sometimes the S22 Ultra will kind of do like these random hiccups.
03:04It doesn't happen all the time, but it does.
03:09That might be just a WinUI problem as well too.
03:15As you can see, speed-wise, the 8th Gen Plus chip versus the first 8th Gen one is a little
03:21bit faster, right?
03:23Launching games and stuff like that.
03:25But like I said, it's not really like a massive difference here.
03:30As far as your gaming settings and stuff like that, they're going to be about the same.
03:35One thing I did notice, so I thought this was important, the Zenfone, I have an update
03:40for this.
03:41The Zenfone gets way less hotter than the S22 Ultra.
03:47I think maybe it's because of the metal back on here or the, excuse me, these are the settings
03:57as well too.
03:58HDR Extreme on here as well too.
04:01So like I said, you will be able to play games.
04:04It's the same settings on the S22 Ultra as well too, but I'm thinking it's because it's
04:09the glass back on the S22 Ultra.
04:11The glass heats up, it's more intense than plastic.
04:15I'm not really sure.
04:16What do you guys think?
04:17But yeah, it just feels hotter.
04:20But I do think the new chip is slightly a bit more efficient for sure in terms of dealing
04:27with heat and stuff like that.
04:28Let's talk about additional features and this is where the S22 Ultra, it doesn't do that
04:34great of a job with these speakers actually.
04:36This is Samsung's sort of like weakest speakers in years compared to all the other Galaxy
04:43flagships that I have.
04:45So you might be able to hear the difference here.
04:47Yeah, so it's just, it's nowhere near as loud as the Zenfone 9.
05:09The bass is not even in the same galaxy as the Zenfone 9.
05:14The Zenfone 9 speakers are just so much better.
05:16Now, if we go back and look at like a S21 Ultra, S20 Ultra, the Galaxy Note, they have
05:23really good speakers.
05:24But this year, Samsung just kind of like, they flopped with the speakers, it's just
05:27not powerful.
05:28Yeah, it's just very weak.
05:35I don't know if you guys can really hear that, but take my word for it, the speakers just
05:39not as good this year.
05:40They sound decent for stereo speakers, but this just blows it out of the water, especially
05:45even for like, you know, a smaller phone.
05:47Like I said, additional features, Samsung does have a lot of cool stuff with the software
05:51as far as Samsung desktop support, secure folders, reverse wireless charging is very
05:56cool on here as well too.
05:58And we'll get into that.
05:59The Zenfone does not have any type of wireless charging.
06:02You do have wireless charging on the S22 Ultra.
06:05As far as additional features go, I really like the fingerprint scanner being in the
06:10power button on the Zenfone.
06:14You guys can see, you also take advantage of face unlock.
06:17Also, the S22 Ultra does a great job with its in-display fingerprint sensor as well
06:21too, it's extremely fast.
06:23You also have face unlock as well too, it just comes down to your preference.
06:27And then you have the built-in stylus, of course, that you can draw and navigate your
06:31phone with, and it's a really good experience for those who really are into that.
06:37But yeah, so let's go ahead and talk about the cameras.
06:40You have just a way more advanced camera setup, and this is where the extra money is coming
06:45into play here.
06:46So, the S22 Ultra, it does have a 108 megapixel standard, a 10 megapixel periscope telephoto
06:54lens, a 10 megapixel telephoto lens, and then you have a 12 megapixel ultra-wide, you have
06:59a macro mode, it shoots in 8K 24, a 40 megapixel selfie cam, and then you shoot in 4K 60.
07:06And then the cameras also, you do have the 100x space zoom on here as well too, so it
07:12just gets super close, I mean it takes great shots even at 30x, it takes excellent shots
07:16at 10x, one of the best cameras for doing zoom shots on.
07:21So the Zenfone 9, it's got a really good camera setup, but it's just nowhere near as advanced
07:27and fancy as the S22 Ultra.
07:29So I would say if you're really into cameras, the S22 Ultra is pretty much an easy choice
07:34there, it just offers more, but again, you are paying more, you have a 50 megapixel standard
07:39on the Zenfone, 12 megapixel ultra-wide, it also shoots in 8K 24, and you have a 12 megapixel
07:45selfie cam that shoots in 4K 30.
07:48So I'll show you guys the side-by-side stills, which image processing do you guys prefer,
07:53but like I said, if I was gonna choose a camera, I'd definitely go with the S22 Ultra here.
08:04Alright guys, what I'm about to say, it might
08:33surprise you guys.
08:36Battery life.
08:37The Zenfone 9 has better battery life and better standby time than the S22 Ultra, and
08:44it's not even like, oh, maybe by a little, no, it's noticeably better, and the standby
08:48time is not even comparable.
08:50So the Zenfone 9 does have a 4,300 milliamp battery with 30 watt charging, but what's
08:56sexy about this phone is there's no wireless charging.
08:58The S22 Ultra has a 5,000 milliamp battery with 45 watt charging, so it charges slightly
09:03faster, and you have wireless and reverse wireless charging, so you kind of have those
09:07pros and cons there, but as far as battery life, I'm getting way better battery life
09:11on the Zenfone.
09:13Now again, you do have a bigger display on the S22 Ultra, you also have the S Pen in
09:18there, probably sucking up power, so there's probably a reason why it doesn't have that
09:23great standby time.
09:24A screen-on time with the S22 Ultra, you can get around like six hours of screen-on
09:28time for normal use, hardcore use, like doing stuff on your gaming and just more intense
09:34stuff, you're probably looking at like four hours, 30 minutes, close to five hours.
09:40The Asus Zenfone, it just does an excellent job.
09:44I feel like I can get pretty much up to like seven hours pretty easy on this phone.
09:48More intense, you can probably look at six hours, so you are just getting better battery
09:51life to me in general on this phone.
09:54But yeah, so what do you guys think?
09:56Which phone would you guys prefer?
09:57Be sure to let me know, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
