00:00What's up guys, today we're going to be comparing the Note 20 Ultra to the S21 Ultra here.
00:07So this is a very interesting comparison, mostly because these two phones here in the
00:12USA, very confusing because they cost the same.
00:15So you can get an S21 Ultra for around $400, but then also the Note 20 Ultra is retaining
00:24its value for around that same price as well too in the Renew Refurbished Marketplace.
00:29And it's simply because of the things that we're going to talk about.
00:32So the Note is actually retaining value very well.
00:36So let's go ahead and talk about that.
00:38So let's go ahead and talk about the design of these two phones.
00:42The S21 Ultra is one of my favorite big phones to hold.
00:47It's extremely easy to hold, even though there's sort of like a weight imbalance with the big
00:51camera module.
00:53It's still very, very nice to hold in the hand, especially for people with smaller hands
00:57compared to the Note because it's not as boxy as the Note.
01:01So that's the one thing I miss about these, the S series phones, that you can hold these
01:05and they feel comfortable because they don't cut into the palm like a boxy phone would.
01:10And again, you mostly probably will find this problem with people with smaller hands.
01:15It might be a little bit uncomfortable.
01:17One thing I wish Samsung would bring back, they used to do a smaller Note.
01:20So they like, with the Note 10 Plus, they used to have a smaller Note, like a standard
01:25one.
01:26They don't do that anymore.
01:27So those phones are a little bit more comfortable.
01:29But for this being such a big phone, it's pretty comfortable.
01:32So as you can see, the two designs on here, yeah, the S21 Ultra definitely looks a little
01:37bit more modern here, for sure.
01:40But I do like both designs, both glass and metal.
01:43And what I like about the S21 Ultra's design is that it's got a matte finish on here.
01:47So it can't really, or it doesn't really pick up fingerprints like that.
01:51So really, really nice.
01:53They're about the same, you know, in terms of height.
01:57Yeah, pretty much the same.
02:00And the S21 Ultra definitely feels a little bit more heavier, in my opinion here.
02:06So I want to talk about one of the biggest things with the hardware, with the Note, is
02:11obviously the S Pen.
02:12So the S Pen is a big deal when making a decision here.
02:16Because if you're not going to use the S Pen, that's like the selling point of this phone.
02:21So you need to make up your mind if you're going to use the S Pen, if you find it useful.
02:24Now I did a full S Pen video going over all the features, if you guys type that in the
02:28search bar.
02:30But essentially, you can use it for digital artwork, you can use it to take pictures from
02:34a distance.
02:35Samsung has a ton of little software features in there as well.
02:39Basically for anybody who just likes to navigate with a pen, right, it works really well.
02:44It's extremely accurate, and like I said, it's built in.
02:48Now the S21 Ultra, believe it or not, it does have S Pen functionality, but it's not built
02:55into the phone.
02:56But you can actually use, so I'll actually show you guys.
03:00You can actually use the S Pen on the S21 Ultra.
03:06You can see the same software features pop up.
03:08So again, it's just not going to be built in, so you have to buy a case with this phone
03:14to have that built in, or S Pen sort of thing.
03:17But again, it depends on if you want that big bulky case, et cetera, et cetera.
03:22So that's something you have to, you know, it's just easier to have it built into the
03:26phone.
03:27So that's why I said, you know, that's a deciding factor that you sort of have to think about.
03:31Alright, let's talk about the displays on these two devices.
03:35The S21 does have a 6.8 inch display, it's 1440p.
03:40And then it is also 1500 nits peak brightness, 120 hertz, HDR10+, 515 for the PPI.
03:48The Note, it has a 6.9 inch display, so it's a little bit bigger if you guys can tell.
03:53And then you also have 1440p, 120 hertz, HDR10+, 496 for the PPI.
04:00You can see the two different display designs, one a little bit more curved, one a little
04:03bit more boxy.
04:05They both actually have curved displays.
04:07The S21 Ultra does not curve as dramatic as the Note does.
04:11Alright, so basically here is the difference is that they both pretty much look the same,
04:17you know, in 1440p.
04:19But the difference is the S21 Ultra is a little bit brighter and also it runs 120 hertz in
04:24the full 1440p.
04:27The Note can only do the 120 hertz at 1080p.
04:31So that's a big difference there.
04:33So overall, you know, the S21 Ultra just looks a little bit better to me, you know, because
04:39most of the time you're going to be running it, you know, you're going to run the Note
04:42at 120 hertz.
04:43Most people aren't going to run it at 60 hertz 1440p.
04:47So I think in general, the S21 Ultra is a better display.
04:50Like I said, it's easier to hold.
04:52It's 120 hertz with a full 1440p.
04:55And then the Note, like I said, you might like this more boxy look, but again, you have
04:59that, you know, only 1080p 120 hertz.
05:03But as far as like the screens themselves, when they're both at 1440p, they both look
05:07pretty, you know, much identical in terms of quality.
05:10Like I said, S21 Ultra a little bit brighter though.
05:13Alright, so let's talk about the specs a little bit more here.
05:16So the S21 Ultra does have the faster Snapdragon AAA processor, no SD card support, 128 gigs
05:23of internal storage, and 12 gigs of RAM.
05:26The Note has a Snapdragon 865 chip, and then you also have micro SD card support, 128 gigs
05:32of internal storage, and 12 gigs of RAM on this one.
05:36So basically performance wise, the S21 is going to be a little bit faster, right?
05:42But the Note is really not that far ahead.
05:45So if we like start launching stuff, it's really not that big of a difference when it
05:49comes to the overall general performance of these two phones.
05:53And I find that the Note doesn't get as hot as the S21 Ultra, you can see it beat it there
06:00in Subway Surfer.
06:03But in general, they both pretty much feel the same to me guys.
06:06So I don't think there's a massive difference when it comes to the overall speed and performance
06:12of these two phones.
06:13They're going to do a fantastic job, so it doesn't really matter what you're doing on
06:17your phone.
06:18Alright, so there is one interesting thing though.
06:22So we're going to go ahead and open up PUBG.
06:25Alright, so I want to talk about the gaming performance on here, because I think it's
06:29pretty interesting.
06:30So the S21 Ultra does a fantastic job with PUBG, but what's interesting about this phone
06:36is you actually don't have the 90 frames option on this phone, which I thought was strange
06:41because this phone's been out for a while.
06:43Now it runs very smooth at the HDR extreme at 60 frames, but the Note 20 Ultra, and these
06:50are, again, the Snapdragon versions, it has 90 frames, which I think is strange.
06:57And I wonder if they didn't add the 90 frames because the 888 series kind of heats up and
07:04they don't want to damage the phone, or because it's a popular game, and I don't know.
07:08I don't know why it's not running 90 frames.
07:10Now, I know some people say there's some stuff that you can install on your S21 Ultra or
07:15S22 Ultra to enable that, but then you might run into heating problems.
07:21So that's what I was talking about with the chip.
07:23So it's just pretty interesting.
07:25I like to game on the 855 and 865 chips because they're way cooler, and again, these phones
07:33will, in the long term, have better performance, right?
07:36As the years go on, these phones are going to be more powerful, but it's just pretty
07:42interesting.
07:43Now, I'm not saying that the 888 chip is going to burn your hand off.
07:46It's not that bad, but it definitely does heat up a little bit more than I would like
07:50it to.
07:53And let's go ahead and talk about that, the software treatment.
07:55So the S21 Ultra has the same software treatment as the S22 Ultra.
08:00So this phone has a very, very long lifespan.
08:04The Note 20 Ultra is currently in its security patch stages.
08:07It got Android 13.
08:09It should be getting One UI 5.1 as well, and like I said, it's going to get security
08:13updates for the next three years, I believe.
08:16So that's very good, right?
08:18As far as the software goes, everything's pretty much the same.
08:21Samsung desktop support is on here, secure folders, reverse wireless charging.
08:26All that good stuff is still on here, so you're not really missing out on anything.
08:28Like I said, you do have S Pen support on the S21.
08:32Let's check out the speakers on both devices, max volume.
09:09Yeah, they sound pretty much identical to each other, so there's really no big difference
09:22there.
09:23And when it comes to the fingerprint scanner, again, very much identical when it comes to
09:29that as well.
09:30They both have face unlock that you can take advantage of as well too.
09:34All right, so let's talk about the cameras.
09:36So these phones have similar camera setups, but the S21 Ultra's a little bit better here.
09:43So it does have a 108 megapixel standard, 10 megapixel periscope telephoto, 10x optical
09:48zoom, and then a 10 megapixel telephoto, 12 megapixel ultrawide.
09:53There's a macro mode, 8K24, 40 megapixel selfie cam that also shoots in 4K60, and this thing
10:00goes up to 100x zoom, and it does take better zoom shots than the Note for sure.
10:05I definitely give it that.
10:08But the Note 20 Ultra, it still has a pretty good camera setup, 108 megapixel standard,
10:1212 megapixel periscope telephoto, 5x optical zoom, 50x hybrid zoom, 12 megapixel ultrawide.
10:19It shoots in 8K24, and then you have a 10 megapixel selfie that also shoots in 4K60.
10:26So you do get better and just further zoom on the S21 Ultra, but I'll show you guys the
10:33side-by-side stills.
10:34Let me know what you guys think.
11:04Let me know what you guys think.
11:34Let me know what you guys think.
12:04Let me know what you guys think.
12:20As far as I can tell with the battery life experience, and I did a drain test on these
12:23phones, it's really no difference in battery life at all.
12:27These phones typically will get around six hours of screen on time, which is technically
12:31a full day.
12:32Like I said, virtually no difference with the battery life.
12:36You have a bigger battery on the S21 Ultra, 25-watt charging, wireless, reverse wireless,
12:42and you have a 4,500 milliamp hour battery on the Note, and then the same 25-watt charging
12:48wireless and reverse wireless.
12:50So again, no difference with battery life that I can tell from using these two devices.
12:54So that's pretty much it, guys.
12:57I think it comes down to the S Pen, the SD card support, how important is that to you.
13:04I think the S21 Ultra just has, one, a better design, a better screen.
13:10It technically does have a faster chip, even though I don't think it's super efficient
13:14for gaming for long periods of time, and you also have more software updates as well, too.
13:22I think the cameras are slightly a little bit better, in my opinion.
13:26So what do you guys think?
13:27Be sure to let me know, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
